Because my daughter is in gymnastics this school has been a great fit for her. They even worked around her schedule during testing. We just love this school. They're willing to work with you in any way they can. Their curriculum is on point. You may contact teachers for help with anything the students don't understand. This is the place to be.
My son has thrived since starting with Connections Academy. He struggled in school when he attended his last school. He was constantly bored and not challenged enough. In addition, he would come home almost every day telling me about fights or someone bringing a gun or knife to school. A few years back, there was a student who was stabbed. I feel better and have peace of mind knowing that my son is getting a good education while also staying safe from the violence that became a daily occurrence.
Hi Dee, Thank you for leaving your review! We're sorry your son had a challenging time at his local school, but we're happy to hear that he's in a safe learning environment that allows him to reach his full potential. ~Alexis
We decided to switch to online school due to many issues in the public brick and mortar school. Bullying that was never dealt with, lack of communication with staff, no personal attention. I've been amazed at the communication from everyone at Connections Academy! My sons home room teacher is so helpful, attentive to his needs, and I hear from her more times in one week than I heard from prior teachers in a year! Any questions I've had have been answered so promptly, clearly, and we've not been made to feel like an inconvenience. The program is very easy to use, especially once you get the hang out it and there's always help available if needed. Being able to work at his own pace has also been so beneficial. He can work ahead, take his time, take breaks whenever needed. We are definitely very happy with the switch!
Hi Pamela, Thank you for leaving your review! We're glad that your son is in a safe learning environment while continuing to have the support of teachers! ~Alexis
They give you a shocking amount of work everyday. All day long you will be working, and its so boring. The system itself is very complex and confusing. I am a parent. So my child can rest, I end up finishing his work for him. I hate this school so much. It has brought me to tears many times. My child use to love History, now he hates everything about learning. We are just going to cheat I suppose. There is no other way. The live lessons are pure boring crap. Send your kid to a real school with human interaction, exercise, recess. I wish I had read the reviews first. It would be easier to make your own curriculum
My kids and I decided to have them move from the local brick and mortar school to Indiana Connections Academy back in 2020, when they're school was closed due to the pandemic. There were too many unknowns and I felt it would be easier and healthier to have them try online school. The results have been better than expected! We struggles, the first year, trying to understand how everything worked, but it has reduced my daughter's anxiety, allowed for easier travel, has helped my son through two illnesses to keep up with his schoolwork, and given each of them more control over their education and personal time. While communication was, at times, delayed with the teachers, we were patient and tried to understand their workload in these new and developing times of remote work and school. I'll recommend INCA to anyone I know!
Wow, Laura. Amazing! We appreciate your patience and understanding, and want to encourage your family to keep up the good work! ~Bri
This educational program is excellent, they take with your student, they display accountability and I as a parent am more than pleased. My son has been enrolled in this program for 3 years he does great! Go NCA!
Worrst online school ever, be prepared to teach your child yourself with the lesson plans they provide, expect college style lecturing with assigned reading and asynchronous work. Basically, as the "learning coach" you're the unpaid teacher and they get paid by the state.
Update: Connections Academy responded by reporting my review as not having a valid email address... I wonder how many bad reviews they get removed in an underhanded and dishonest way.
No matter how well your child is doing, you are required to meet with teachers?! So regardless of an A average, not needing help, you are required to physically speak with your teachers... homeschool? We wake up each morning to a big red "unhappy face" letting us know that her enrollment in this school is jeopardized... despite doing the "live lesson" requirements. In the 6 weeks she has been enrolled, we feel more pressure than we ever did at traditional middle school. We have 2 more months... and we are trying to get through. Think twice before attending Connections Academy :(
The teachers are nice personally. If there were more stars, I would definitely give more of a 5 star rating, get along with their students, plus let's me know how well my child is doing along the way.
Wow, we would love to be able to get more than 5-stars! Thank you for the kind words, Ashley! ~Alexis
I have had to remove both a Freshman and a 6th. Grader for the same reasons. There was entirely too many assignments each day and the Live Lesson were a joke. Live Lessons consisted every day with technical difficulties on the teacher's behalf, continuous chatting among peers about unrelated content-very distracting. Most Live Lessons had zero instruction, but only had to do with showing up to be held accountable for attendance. Meanwhile the Live Lessons were a complete waste of time. If questions were asked by teachers, only one student would usually dominate the entire class. This school left my children feeling like failures and completely destroyed their confidence in school. Terrible waste of time!
Best choice I could've ever made for my girl! She is doing so much more now than when she was in brick and mortar! Don't have to worry about bullies! Our family loves INCA! I want to try and enroll my boys next year, but we will see!
Hi Krista, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review! We are so happy to hear that your daughter is doing so well and is no longer being bullied. Please feel free to reach out to our Family Enrollment Counselors if you need any assistance with enrolling your boys! ~Alexis
Our daughter has attended Connections Academy for 2 years now, and the experience has been terrific. We have excellent communication between her teachers and administrators, and they take any questions or concerns we have seriously. The schedule is very flexible and allows for plenty of extracurricular activities, and the school also offers plenty of clubs and field trips too. My entire family is thrilled that our daughter can get an education this way in a safe, loving, and supportive environment. My husband and I both work part-time from home so it is a perfect fit. We decided long ago that our child would not be going to a brick or mortar school, and Colorado Connections Academy is the best school we could hope for.
Quality curriculum and dedicated teachers are the cornerstones of our program, but we're pretty excited about the extras too, and we're so glad to hear that your family is taking advantage of things like field trips and clubs, too! We're looking forward to learning and growing together again next year! ~Kim
Where do I begin? They didn't make enrollment easy, I spoke to 15 different people who all told me 15 different things, in the end I had to enroll my daughter into a different school entirely which is sad because my daughter really would have benefited from virtually learning. Every document we submitted was rejected even though we submitted what we were told we could submit. You want kids to be apart of hi out program, yet you make it so hard for the parents to Enroll... Just don't understand. If you live in HUD or government housing, I do not recommend this program for your child because they choose not to understand your situation nor understand your "leasing" terms.
Hi Misty, I'm very sorry to hear that your experience with the enrollment process has been frustrating. I attempted to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. As a public school, we have specific documents that we need to collect during the enrollment process. We understand that families may not have the documents listed, but we generally have other options for those families. If you would like me to connect you with a Family Enrollment Counselor to discuss those options, please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thank you. ~Alexis
Our experience has been one without anything confusing because everyone is all there to help you or lead you to whom you need to speak with. My son has done better here than any other schools as his curriculum is also easy to follow. We made a great choice picking Georgia Connections Academy!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, Lisa! We're thrilled to hear that your son is doing so well at Georgia Connections Academy! ~Alexis
Great school. I am reading the reviews about students getting too much work. I did not notice because I went to a Boston exam high school and we got tons of work plus have some college background it is the norm if you want your child to get ahead.
My daughter was enrolled for this past school year for third grade. Her teacher was very involved and ALWAYS there for any questions about anything. They did live lessons multiple times a week and always let my child know that she can also contact her with any questions as well. I'm sorry a lot of people have had such a hard time with them. There are a few things in the curriculum that I didn't like all that much but that's kind f with any school.
It looks like the majority of these reviews were written by students who didn't like taking responsibility for their work and parents who thought they could just leave their kids to their own devices all day (apparently forgetting that they're kids and need supervision?). The school isn't easy--they expect you to actually work and keep up with deadlines. You can't goof off and twiddle your thumbs till the last minute then expect to get the work in. The only time I've been admonished by a teacher was when I tried to put off my work till the last minute, and the quality showed that. I've had no problem socializing because I actually, you know, leave the house and go out once I'm done with assignments. Try joining a team or something. Meet people outside of the computer.
Connection Academy is just so awesome that there's not enough words to explain everything. My kid gets 100% of all the attention and help he needs from the teachers and absolutely loves to have his classroom in his room.
We love that your student can learn where he wants to, Antonina! Thank you for your kind words! ~Alexis
There is WAY too much email spam. Things are sent through email that really doesn't need to be. Important and needed information gets lost easily because there is just so much. It's hard enough for an adult to search through the emails, let alone a child trying to learn.
Otherwise, good alternative to in person.
Hi Deb, Thank you for the feedback. I tried to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com with more information so we can forward your feedback to our administrators? Thank you! ~Alexis
I enrolled my son in this school almost a year ago, I should have known and read the reviews before I actually went through with this. They pile work on top of work. My son is Special needs, his grade dropped from an B average to a low D. I'm very dissatisfied, and will be looking for other schools for my son. Also you will never have any type of time for yourself or family.
Hi Denise, I tried to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. We understand that our schools offer a more rigorous curriculum and typically there is more parental involvement than a traditional brick-and-mortar school, but we never want our students to feel overwhelmed. If you haven't already, I encourage you to reach out to his teachers for more support. If you would like us to have a staff member reach out, please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com using the email address that is associated with your account. ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis
We love to hear that your daughter is taking advantage of the flexibility that our school offers to pursue gymnastics! Thank you for sharing, Beverly! ~Alexis
