This is our first year with this school. We had a kindergartener and a third grader. I love the curriculum that was given for both. I noticed my kindergartner had a more advanced learning than my third grader did when they were in kindergarten. What I also liked about the school, was the flexibility. I love the pace my students are able to learn on and I'd recommend this school to anyone looking for a flexible schedule for their child.
Our experience has been exceptional with Great River Connections Academy. The teachers are very accessible and personable with their students. Both my daughters, 8th and 9th grade have had a better educational experience than their previous brick and mortar school. The curriculum for them is challenging, but fun. The whole experience of transitioning to an online school was a bit scary in the beginning, but the staff and teachers walked us through the hole process and we couldn't be happier with the results.
We’re so glad to hear that you’re having a good experience at Great River Connections Academy, and we’re grateful that you took time to share your experience here. Have a great summer and we’ll see you in the fall! ~Kim
I've come to change my review. When I first started I hated it more than anything. It was stressful. It STILL is very stressful. I had over 40 overdue lessons and was only a few months in. I finally came out of a huge depression and got them all done. Right now I'm struggling with most work but have no overdue lessons. Mrs. Drake is the sweetest teacher. Math is the worst, I had a domain not comeplete and had a 35 and when I finished it came up to 75. Mathia is horrible as well. I was put in avenues of hope also. It doesent help, just gives MORE work to STUGGLING students! Try not to fail core courses. Just saying that this is a lot more work than public school but once you get kinda used to it it gets easier. It's still not the best tho.
My son has been attending Ohio Connections Academy for 2 years now so far the best school he has attended after 1 year at a horrible local brick and mortar school in our local area we decided to switch to online schooling we first enrolled him into Ohio Virtual Academy we hade a good 3 years with them until the end of the last year he attended with them he had a horrible experience not going into details with that but it was awful. Ohio Connections Academy has been absolutely amazing school for him though and we are looking forward to many great years ahead.
Thanks for checking in, Stephanie. We’re delighted that your son found a good fit at Connections Academy! ~Kim
Lots of opportunities to meet up with school mates. No penalty if you can't make it. Convenient test sites. Complete access to grades. My child is more focused on learning without distractions.
This is awesome, Cheri! We love that your student is learning in an environment with less distractions! ~Alexis
Amazing! Great school with so much to offer with awsome teachers. My child has learned so much and is proud to be apart of this school. Great flexability and when you need help the teachers are fast to get back to you..
This is our 2nd year and our 1st year was better but we're still going to stay on for another year and see how it goes. The Language Arts this year, has had an overwhelming amount of work and I just think it's been way too much for 7th graders. Also the frequency of benchmarks is ridiculous, I really do not think they need to happen as often as they have this year. The amount of portfolios required from every class, has been a lot more this year as well and I just think those are unnecessary as well.
Thank you for your feedback, Janna! If you haven't already, please reach out to your student's teachers if they are feeling overwhelmed with their schoolwork. We never want our students to fall behind or feel like they can't keep up. If you would like us to connect you with a staff member, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. ~Alexis
My son is doing so good mentally and academically since making the choice to be a part of this program! As his mother I am so thrilled to say the least!
We love this, Alisa! Thank you for taking the time to leave your review! ~Alexis
We have been in MNCA since 2020. We originally moved over because of the uncertainty during Covid but 2 of my kids have chosen to go again every year since. One of my kids did dcoose to to our local district school and chose to go back to Connections the next year. I love the flexibility and the level of involvement I am allowed. It really is the best fit for us.
This is great to hear, Angela! We hope that your students have a great rest of the school year at Minnesota Connections Academy! ~Alexis
My son has been with TECCA (Massachusetts) for 2 years and the flexibility is so helpful. We were able to schedule one subject per day which helped my son manage adhd and the associated frustrations. We have the ability to take vacations and go on adventures we wouldnt have been able to in traditional schools.
My Granddaughter was enrolled In SCCA after the school year started, due to bullying and other problems in the Brick and Mortar school she was attending. She was many lessons behind, the teachers were wonderful about explaining the things she needed to do in order to get caught up. The teachers have all been great as to replying to email, giving one on one live lessons when needed. These are the things that make SCCA a wonderful experience. I would recommend SCCA to any parent that is looking for a good education for their child where you know the child will get the help they need.
Hi Linda, We're so happy to hear that the teachers at SCCA were able to help your granddaughter get caught up with her schooling! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
They are ruthless, and dont help out only complicate, harass you to do what they want. If you do not agree to meetings, they call the cops on you. They harassed me so much to have a 504 meeting but the principal didnt attend. Then why make the meeting when hes not available? Also if your busy with meetings, actually having a job, its against their policies, My husband and i dont have the ability to answer calls when they call bcuz of meetings or taking calls. I do not recommend this school to anyone. I only put my kids in this school because of Covid, but I regret ever putting them in this school. They dont have 1 on 1s if kids need help even though we asked that before enrolling them, and they lied to us just for the funding for their school..
Hi Gabby, Our goal is to provide a high-quality education to all of our families and I'm sorry that hasn't been your experience. We do recognize that our school includes more parental involvement than a traditional brick-and-mortar. I would love to have someone reach out, when you are available, to address your concerns. Can you please send us an email to community@connectionsacademy.com with the first and last name of your student as it appears in our system, so we can locate your account and have someone contact you directly? Thank you. ~Alexis
I actually HATE this school. I've been depressed ever since I joined. No social interaction, loads of work expected to be completed in 1-2 days, and boring classes with the bare minimum of education.
These teachers are engaging and truly care about their students. We have had a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend, especially if your child does not enjoy a regular high school setting.
Hi Lindsey, Our teachers are the cornerstone of our schools, and we're happy to hear that they have had a positive impact on your student! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
Initially we were a little skeptical about homeschool. Connections Academy has really impressed us with how knowledgeable and caring the teachers are. We will never go back to public school.
Hi Lakrisha. We're so glad you decided to give online school a try, despite those initial reservations. And we're so, so happy to hear that you love our teachers. We think they're pretty great, too! ~Kim
My husband and I thought we did our research and attended parent sessions as well as a school event before making our decision into what we thought was going to be an amazing opportunity. Only 1 week in we called it quits... after myself and my children having been in tears and so totally overwhelmed. I honestly feel duped... how can 1 teacher have a class size of over 90 students? The Live Lesson rooms have a cap of 90 so students we getting bumped off to only have to watch the recording later. My kids were strapped to their desks for over 7 hours a day trying to complete the work, no breaks not even an adequate lunch break! They talk about kids having the opportunity to socialize? If you saw the "chat pod" that goes on in the live lesson rooms with 90 kids typing at once about their favorite subject, music, color... it is flying by at such a high speed there is no way to keep up never mind form a relationship. In what school do they offer a field trip for students to attend... only to learn that their full day of lessons will be waiting for them when they get home? This school right here. I feel like a failure that I put my kids through such a horrible experience to start the school year... when we pulled the plug and told my kids they were going back into their school district I never saw them so relieved and happy. Biggest regret!
I am a senior at Connections and it is the best decision I have ever made. Brick and mortar school was so hard for me because of all the distractions and bratty kids. At connections you don't have to worry about other kids. My teachers always respond very quickly and set up private livelessons whenever I need them, which helps a lot. I start working at 9am and work until around 8 or 9pm with LOTS of long breaks in between. My favorite classes I'm taking are living music and photography, but next semester I get to do AP psychology and sociology too! The work is easy and manageable as long as you put effort into your classes every day. I went from C's and D's to 4 A+s and 2 As! I think kids going into online school expect it to be easier so they don't work as hard, that's why they don't do as well. It's a normal school (a great one at that!), it's just on your computer. I go to GLCA.
We love the versatility, and schedule which allows us to pace and understand assignments adequately.
Thank you, Vanessa! We're glad to hear that your family is taking advantage of the flexibility of our school to ensure your student is learning at the pace they need to! ~Alexis
TNCA is awesome! They truly care about students and the curriculum is a lot more challenging than local public school. Always communicate with me regarding my students, I have 3 enrolled- 8th, 11th, 12th grades- Live lessons with interactive class, couldn't be happier with my kids education!
Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your positive feedback! We're thrilled to hear that TNCA has been able to provide all of your students with a challenging yet rewarding learning option. ~Alexis
Whenever you call an have questions they go out of their way to find out if they do not. This helps your enrollment process move forward quickly & easy.
Hi Melissa, Thank you for sharing your experience with the enrollment process! We're happy to hear that our Family Enrollment Counselors have been helpful! ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis
