Very little interaction between teacher and student. Extremely stressful for an average student. I was super depressed and stressed out the entire time. Worst school I've ever been to.
I have a fifth grader enrolled in MI Connections Academy. I am glad to see that others have issues with this establishment. Well, not glad, but relieved that I am not alone. Live lessons are pretty much pointless! I am basically doing the work a regular classroom teacher would do. I am explaining information, helping with problems and keeping her on task. The teacher involvement is next to none. I could have just as easily bought some textbooks and went through it all with her.
If you were a parent that has difficulty with math, then the child would suffer. This is due to the lack of information and new math techniques used today. Many of us were taught math differently than what is expected today.
They state that parents should spend about 6 hours with their child, which we regularly do. The problem is that 4 to 5 classes may be covered in that time frame. Throw in two useless live lessons and you just spent 8 hours doing school. I might as well have had my child back in public school. Very frustrated with this establishment. I will definitely not be re-enrolling my child next year!
The organization, level of professionalism from teachers and staff. My son is getting a quality education while learning at home in a safe environment! Supported from all aspects!
I would recommend this school to anyone! The teachers are wonderful! Very helpful and concerned. My child has accomplished so much in her learning. Everyone is very helpful.
Hi Angela, Thank you for taking the time to leave your recommendation! We love to hear that your student is thriving here! ~Alexis
This school is horrible and unfortunately, I have been here since the 3rd grade (in 9th now) and I have always hated it. They give you way too much to do in one day, I remember they gave me 10 assignments in a single day which all took a decent amount of time to complete so I wound up finishing school at 7 PM giving me barely any time to do things that I want to do.
Hi John, I'm so sorry to hear that you are frustrated with the amount of schoolwork. We recognize that our schools can be more rigorous than a traditional brick-and-mortar school, but we never want our students to feel like they have more work than they can handle. If you are feeling overwhelmed with the workload, please be sure to reach out to your teachers. If you feel like you need additional support, have your caretaker email us at community@connectionsacademy.com, using the email address that is linked to their account, so we can put you in contact with a staff member. ~Alexis
I love how the teachers get involved and care about the students education and the staff is so helpful.
Our teachers are the cornerstones of our schools, and we're thrilled to hear that they have been such a benefit to your family, Shannah! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
I can't speak about other states, but the Texas Connections Academy apparently is the only branch of this school that requires the principal to manually check off parents' names that attend the online pre-enrollment meeting. Attending this meeting is a requirement to complete enrollment. I attended the meeting & followed instructions, but the principal hosting the meeting did not check off my name. A week and 15 phone calls later, I can't move forward in the registration process because of their error. Mostly the representatives I have spoken with have been pleasant, but there is a huge communication problem between the state school staff and the main corporate staff. I have had 2 "tickets" submitted to address this issue, only to find out they were both sent to the wrong person. No one can help me except this one principal that never answers the phone. Meanwhile, my child is falling further and further behind--if he even gets registered at all. My advice is to register for this school with plenty of time to spare. If you are running behind & close to the registration deadline, find somewhere else.
The teachers are amazing! The curriculum is wonderful! Love having a flexible schedule. Can't say enough positive things about this program---it changed our lives for the better.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, Maria! We're grateful that we've had such a positive impact on the lives of your family! ~Alexis
Gabriel is my son, he is 8 years old and in first grade, my son is special needs My son learning need are different from others. He is below level in reading, math and science and social study he is an A-B My son teacher is great she worked with me when we first started I didn't know what I was doing, and I don't know what I would have done without her, she helped me every step of the way.
Hi Wilhemina, We are thrilled to hear that your son's teachers have been able to support his needs while also helping you understand your role! We hope you both continue to succeed with us! ~Alexis
I like to read real reviews, so every now and then I take the time to write one. I have a son who attends Georgia Connections Academy. He has been enrolled for three years, so I know a little bit about the program. All students learn at a different rate, so what works for one may not work for the other. This is a great program for a student with a great learning coach and who does not need a lot of instruction. There are live lessons and teacher interaction, however distractions are still a concern. Some teachers come to these lessons unprepared and with instructions for the whole curriculum, which takes up a lot of instructional time. Teachers work mostly on a part-time level, almost like a substitute teacher. Some kids don't need that constant attention, so this would be great for them. I am writing this review because school is taking a private turn to the right and cyber school will be one of the alternatives. I urge parents to do your homework and research any school, before enrolling your child. Curriculum assignments continue to be a concern for parents and students, however we all need to give a full-time effort in educating our children.
My son had been struggling ever since Covid hit. He was needing to make up his whole freshman year and half of his sophomore year. A friend had recommended CA Connection Academy and it has been life changing! Not only has he been able to catch up, he's on track to GRADUATE on time! Mrs. Clark (sophomore year home room teacher) and Mrs. Beltrami (current home room teacher) have gone ABOVE and BEYOND! They have been heaven sent and without their positivity and cheerleading my son wouldn't be where he is today. All his teachers have been amazing, encouraging and supportive. I feel so blessed to have found such a wonderful school and would recommend Ca Connections Academy! Thank you for having such a wonderful staff!
Hi Tiffany. COVID was a tough time for so many students. It's so good to hear that your son has found what he needed and is thriving now. Thanks for sharing your experience and let him know we're cheering him on! ~Kim
As a student, I absolutely love this program! Not only do my teachers communicate with me and check up on me, the work is absolutely amazing! I only do 6 hours a day (which is shorter than public schools i've been to in the past) and its really easy to focus! The teachers constantly give you help if you need it and give you tips on how to make school easier (like breaks, time management, and how to schedule your day). For some weird reason everyone is giving bad reviews which I don't get, for me this program is really easy for me (the only way you can completely fail is if you don't study what you're working on at all and you never reach out for help) and the teachers are really nice to me. I absolutely reccomend this to any parent who is thinking of putting their kid in this program, as someone who genuinely cannot focus while also being diagnosed bipolar I have trouble with depression that practically makes me crippled and not able to do anything, in other programs i've gotten so behind in my work i practically gave up, nobody ever checked up on me either. Yet in this program I find it easier for me to focus and though i still struggle with the same depression, your grades don't even go down with missing assignments and my teachers constantly encourage me with ways I can make catching up easier and I really do appreciate that. They even host parties and field trips! I don't plan to quit this program any time soon :).
Hi Sierra. We're so happy to hear you're able to focus and you're getting the support you need to be successful! Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope you have a great Winter Break and an awesome second semester! ~Kim
We started at Connections Academy because my daughter suffered chronic headaches and we wanted to take some pressure off of her. That backfired, unfortunately. The online format was sometimes difficult to follow (i. E., what is supplemental work vs. what is the key work), assignments were not always easy to submit (many, many assignments were not saved properly or submitted), the scheduler was a joke (it would schedule assignments randomly and often after the due date so that the online planner because virtually unusable), and the teachers all seemed to have different philosophies about what "work at your own pace" and "flexibility" mean. A few were great, but towards the end, many seemed frazzled and overworked. My daughter finished the year with a zero and a really bad grade on a quiz, dropping her grade from a "b" to a "d", but I was unable to get any feedback or find out what happened because the teacher was on vacation. In reality, the school offers no flexibility or self-paced learning at all; the deadlines are hard and fast and in fact I found the school less flexible and harder to work with then the local public school.
Connections academy is my choice for online school. My experience as a learning coach has me involved in my son's experience. This school has everything an in person school has and more! You can be involved in school activities, in person events, student council, field trips and so much more. You also can be as involved as you want. If you have outside activities and can't go to in person classes you will have the best experience. Students with some anxiety will find the school perfect for them. The education and contact with teachers is just like an in person school. You will have access to guidance counselors, school administration, and all your teachers. Your Homeroom teacher will check in with you regularly. The curriculum and courses are excellent. I would highly recommend Tecca Connections academy as your primary, middle and high school education. I wish they offered this when I was in school!
Hi Katherine, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're happy to hear that you and your son have taken advantage of all TECCA has to offer. Have a great rest of the school year! ~Alexis
My experience was so simple. We love this school! This is our first year with Connections Academy. Teachers & Staff are wonderful. I will sure share my knowledge with others. Thank you
Thank you so much for the recommendation, Juanita! We're glad to hear that you've had a great first year with us and hope that you continue to have an awesome experience. ~Alexis
Ruby D. Is right! I have been a student here for 4 years and it is exhausting. It drains your energy, you have no time for anything so you end up trying to take a break and they end up piling lessons on so you are behind. It leaves you feeling worthless because you can not possibly teach yourself all of this rigorous material in the little time they give you. Specifically, the AP Biology teacher. She gives absolutely no reviews for her college level class. Extremely long reading guides and she grades poorly. She does not give you anything to work with. I have learned absolutely nothing from her class and I was excited for this class. She is unfair and has a condescending tone so it makes you not even want to go to her Live Lessons or talk to her at all. She needs to be replaced. Avoid this class like the plague unless you want your GPA to be ruined. This class is treacherous and a waste of tax payers' money. She is impossible to please. Every answer has something wrong with it (to her.) She questions where you get information from when it comes straight from her power points. She does not give you points and tells you to call her to discuss... for what? Thank God this is my final year. I hope they see this and take the time to make some necessary changes that benefit the students that come after me. Poor things.
This is our first year and it was kinda hard at first but we never give up and very glad we didn't because once we got over the bump in the road Inca is best thing we could have done for our soon to be 6th grader and the teacher are so caring it very nice to have teacher who care and even enjoy their job but if I had to change one thing that would be the learning coaches need answered keys to the work the students are doing I love thar about social studies and science it is a big help and help us learning coaches help the students succeed learn what they need to and help learn in the way that best for the students but overall I love this school and going in roll again next year looking forward to it.
Hi Jessica, Thank you for leaving your feedback. We know that switching to a virtual school can be a bit of a challenge, but we're glad to hear that you and your student overcame it and are doing well! We'll be sure to pass your answer key feedback to our administrators. We hope you and your student enjoy the rest of the school year! ~Alexis
I have two kids currently enrolled in INCA and one who graduated from INCA attending Valparaiso University and excelling because of the foundation from INCA. My two are in the 11 and 12 th grades wit INCA. Both will continue on to a four year university because of the experience INCA delivers. I can't stress enough the freedom students and parents have and also the phenomenal teachers and staff. I highly recommend taking advantage of the quality of education that this school offers.
Hi Lillian, Hearing how our current and former students are excelling is amazing. We are ecstatic to be able to provide a high-quality education that sets our students up for success. Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
BELIEVE ALL THE AWFUL REVIEWS YOU READ. I can not believe my tax dollars are being spent on this place. The teachers are good people. The company has a TERRIBLE product. I AM A TEACHER. The curriculum is trash. THAT is my professional opinion. It is busy work. It is impossible to actually learn ANYTHING. Please save yourself time and aggravation and do ANYTHING else.
School jumped teacher all year and has moved my child down way below his levels this year. I have been with y'all 5 years and I am not pleased with SCCA This year They really dropped the ball this year
Hi Joanie, We're sorry to hear that you have had such a negative experience this year. I tried to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. If you would like us to have a staff member reach out, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thank you. ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis
Hi Sherri, Thank you for leaving your review! We're glad to hear that your son is getting a high-quality education in a safe environment! ~Alexis
