I am so happy and pleased that I selected Colonial Van Lines for my first big Interstate move after having done some moving company research before the end of 2021. I was able to lock in the 2021 rates for my move in March 2022. Everyone I came in contact with - from the account manager and initial consultation for the estimate, the department manager who processed my down payment, the moving manager who adjusted my inventory list as needed and managed the communication with the actual moving team. Something that I thought would be extremely stressful and chaotic became an organized process with the 24/7 support from the Colonial Van Lines team. The actual move happened quite quickly too, loading was done in a very organized, caring and respectful way; the moving team manager walked me thru all steps in detail of the paperwork and inventory. To my surprise my stuff arrived sooner than I thought which made my move-in into temporary housing that much easier. Nothing was broken, nothing was missing, and the unloading crew was as good as the one loading. I highly recommend this company for any of your moving needs and hope you will have the same great experience I did.

I moved from Tennesse to Connecticut recently through Colonial Van lines, and it was a very good experience for me. The person from AMILE AWAY subsidiary was very professional and he explained the billing details politely and he made sure I understood the invoice. Even though I packed my own goods, they wrapped the sectional couch and the bulky furniture really good and they came at the destination without a scratch. It was a great experience overall and I am totally satisfied on how the move went smoothly.

Colonial Vanlines helped my family and I for our move from Chicago to Minneapolis. I was very pleased with every facet of this move. They kept me involved every step of the way, kept me up-to-date with when my boxes and furniture would be delivered, and when everything was unloaded on time - it was all in excellent condition. I would definitely would use Colonial again. While I hate moving, I LOVE COLONIAL!

If you're on the hunt for a moving company ready to mishandle a quarter of your belongings, overcharge you without addressing your concerns, and teach you the costs and benefits of suing a moving company, look no further than Colonial Van Lines. Our recent encounter with their costly relocation services left us deeply disheartened and frustrated. Their estimate for our moving cost was 75% higher than originally predicted. We expected to pay around 4k to have all of our belongings packed, moved, and unpacked in a new home, but the end result was 7.5k - not unpacked but simply dropped and scattered around our new home. They decided to stop moving 2/3 of the way through the move. Thankfully, TaskRabbit workers came to our rescue. Their pricing scheme and the way they communicate is very convoluted. You are told that you will have a point person to explain everything and check in with you, however, I ended up have 3 point people, and each did not know what the other was doing. One person told me the price would be 5k after weighing everything, but later they raised it to 7.5k. What's more, our most valuable belongings were damaged or destroyed. Our experience with Colonial Van Lines was dreadful and we hope to help others avoid the same blunder. Knowing there are numerous reputable companies out there, we wish we had researched more diligently, and gone with something like Gentle Giant. To underscore the most pressing issues: our most valuable items were damaged or destroyed. Upon arrival at our new home, we were informed that their usual crew was unavailable, and they'd enlisted unprofessional workers, and then did not reimburse us for the "white-glove" service we had paid for yet did not receive, though they did give us $200 for the TaskRabbit workers which is what we will use next time in order to save a great deal of money and headache.

$32,000 Incomplete Move & Nightmare

I hired Colonial Van Lines for a move and paid a total of $32,500. On 10/29/22 the moving truck showed up with a driver with no helpers. It took 8 more hours before anyone showed up. An argument between the helpers over money and included several uses of the words "God****, F***, and the N word." I had to pay out of pocket an additional $300 so the helpers wouldn't leave. It began to get late, so the helpers were rushing to get done. They were getting everything off the truck and just shoving it into the garage. The entire garage was filled with an 18 wheeler sized load of boxes and furniture, and that's how it was left. The driver wasn't supervising or controlling the helpers in any way. All of the furniture was left unassembled and missing hardware. They somehow finished unloading an entire tractor trailer in only six hours with four people, which was 13 hours after it showed up that morning. It took them 12 hours with six people when they loaded it up. The helpers began yelling and cursing at the driver again out front.

The inventory sheet was completely illegible and didn't correspond to any of the stickers on the items. We were missing several items that we know of and received other people's items. There were many boxes that were completely smashed. The items inside were all broken. We paid $32,500 to have a stress-free and professional move. Instead I received a rush job and terrible offloading. The company has a ludicrous policy on damaged and missing items, but I didn't think this included absolute and gross negligence. I'm missing an entire bunk bed set with mattresses, a king size box spring, a priceless family heirloom German clock, and many of my power tools. I think it's only reasonable to assume that there was some theft that took place.

I sent all of these concerns to the company. The resolution specialist sent out another group of helpers, and once again after dark and late at night. They spent maybe an hour at our home bringing some of the furniture into the house, but that was it. The garage was still left filled with a majority of the boxes and unassembled furniture. How could the company possibly mess up like this two times in a row? In the end it took us four months to get everything moved into the house ourselves. I contacted them and asked for the replacement cost of the items missing, cost of the damaged goods, and compensation for the whole fiasco caused by the movers. This came to a total of $6,000 and I felt that was a fair settlement considering we paid over $32,000.00 for an incomplete move. I was offered a mere $1,000 in compensation. I responded that this amount was insulting. They then offered me $1,250. I responded that this was again insulting. I was then offered $1,500. I told them that we weren't any even near being on the same page, and then never heard back from them.

The CEO of Colonial Van Lines is Aldo Disorbo. Upon doing some research, I read that he has a history of complaints, and he agreed to leave the moving business twice before. The Florida Attorney General's said that he continued to open new companies, moving people, started using aliases, and opened a moving brokerage company. He was then sentenced to two months in jail for contempt in violation of his agreement to stay out of the moving business for three years. He was later the center of a U.S. Congressional investigation and report on moving fraud. He's been running dozens of moving companies and continuing to get away with. Just google his name and you'll read several news articles and ongoing lawsuits that continue to this day. I guess this isn't a good example of "crime doesn't pay." This has been without a doubt the most miserable experience of our entire lives. It was so terrible that it makes us wish we had never even moved in the first place. Please avoid this company like the plague and don't deal with the nightmare that we had.

I wrote a review about excellent service by Colonial who moved me 12/10/21, since that time my opinion has drastically changed. They moved my things to a storage facility as my new house wasn't complete then a small local company moved me in late January 2022. That's when I was able to really see how Colonial treated my belongings. They had dropped my dad's leather recliner, breaking a leg off and internally, placed deep scratches on an expensive dresser, lost 2 Pottery Barn almost new quilts, scratched a bedside table and lost numerous other things. I thought my renter's insurance would cover any losses and didn't take out insurance with Colonial. My bill was already over $10,000.00 moving from Murfreesboro, TN area to just below Atlanta, GA. They would only pay pennies on the dollar for the damages they caused. I have yet to receive the total of $350.00 and it's nearing a year later. Kenya, in their company who called me from claims called me after months of me trying to get help and was very ugly to me and spoke to me harshly and intimidating. I felt I had no recourse but to sign the release after checking with my insurance company. After getting her way, she was very nice. Bully for her. I was in a bind with my closing date on my home changing and unable to reschedule my original company, so was great full to find someone who could move me at almost last minute. Do more homework than I did, but also stay away from this company if you want your things taken care of. I learned the hard way.

Colonial uses promises to lure you in, but then, adds undisclosed charges and damages your property.
Colonial charged me for extra pictures, even though both the initial contact person, Anthony Perrone, and the van driver, Beldon Lawrence, said, at first, that my load had no overages. Colonial charged me $250 for delaying delivery even though I told six of their employees that I, myself, was driving cross-country and would not arrive until 9 Nov. In spite of 7 messages confirming what both Anthony Perrone and the driver, Beldon Lawrence, himself, told me that Nov 11 was the delivery day, Colonial changed the delivery day at the last minute. I was a full day's drive away from the delivery site when Colonial Van Lines called me, with less than 24 hours' notice, to say they were delivering the next day, Nov 8. I explained I could not get there and Colonial charged me $250 for delaying the delivery that they had assured me was not until Nov 11. I even asked the driver, Beldon, if he was working on Veterans' Day, Nov 11, and he said they worked all days. There was no confusion about setting the delivery for Nov 11. Colonial charged me $250 because I was not at the delivery point by 8 am on Nov 8.

Colonial damaged my chest of drawers; it now wobbles a full six inches sideways. The chest was solid when it went into the van. Colonial damaged an antique desk that was my grandfather's, in spite of the fact that I repeated several times that the desk had to be handled with special care. Colonial broke a number of smaller items, baskets, small glasses, and a bicycle.
I paid for full packing services, which meant putting things back together at the destination. The destination is a mess; nothing was reassembled the way it was before packing. The bed frame was put together without the washers for the bolts and without the floor glides under the legs. I told Beldon and his helper Shaw not to damage the newly refinished floors. There is a foot-long gash in the back bedroom.

1. Review of Household Items Pickup by Helix Transfer & Storage.

On January 25,2023 an experience team of moving specialists headed by Jonis had pickup household items from my Brooklyn, NY location.

The Helix Transfer & Storage team began the pickup by arriving at my location within the specified time agreed upon. First, they reviewed the household items that were to be loaded to truck. Then each member of the three-man team performed their individual task effectively by packing the delicate items carefully and loading the heavy items with ease to the truck.

The team was professional in all ways. They had moved expeditiously to complete the task at hand which resulted in a favorable outcome.

I appreciate the care that Jonis' team had applied to each of my household items that were loaded onto the truck.

2. Review of Household Items Delivered by Helix Transfer & Storage.

Job Well Done!

On February 6,2023 an experience team of moving specialists headed by George had delivered household items to my Effingham, South Carolina location.

The Helix Transfer & Storage team members George and Elvin had arrived at the delivery location within the agreed time specified. Firstly, balance due on contract was discussed. Secondly, final payment was paid to driver, before unloading any household items from truck.

Then each member of the two-man team performed their individual tasks effectively by unpacking the delicate items carefully and unloading the heavy items error-free from the truck. The team was professional in all ways. They had moved with speed and efficiency to complete the task at hand.

I appreciate the help and care that was extended by George and Elvin when they cleanup the unwrapped materials before departing my home.

Thank you, again! Household items delivered to Effingham, South Carolina location transpired without a hitch.

In addition, many thanks goes to Ms. Tracey Brown, Moving Coordinator, for her follow-up phone calls to ensure I am acquainted with the facts to move household items between different cities.
