Classic Flix

Unfortunately, ClassicFlix seems to be the only website where I can rent the old movies I want. The problem is they never heard of customer service and don't care. And don't be fooled by the term "Short Wait," which really means "Never." If you have any "Short Wait" movies, delete them because you will never see them in your mailbox. There are two "Blondie" DVDs that I can get in three days from Amazon or any other reputable company. They have been on "Short Wait" for at least five years! Even though I am supposed to get 3 DVDs at a time, I recently did not get a single movie in over two weeks!

You sign up for the maximum and that appears to be what you get all month! 6 at a time to them means slow shipping and slow receiving so the member gets only 6 per month instead of 6 at a time. I shipped them back within 24-48hrshrs... it takes them about a week to say 'DVD received' and then another couple of days to ship the next... When you are a member with Netflix, you mail it back, they receive it in 24-48hrs and your next DVD is on the way that day. And god forbid you have a long list of wants. They have only one of each title so 99% of the items in the queue are LONG WAIT... which ends up being years! Probably one guy in his garage making believe he is a company! They recently went 'underground' because they have NO IDEA what customer service is... so not instead of renting they try to sell. BEFORE BUYING FROM THEM, check Walmart's website. At least a few dollars less than ClassicFlix and better customer service!

Classic Flix used to be a rental-by-mail company that filled a pretty solid niche - they concentrated on older films and also rented a number of manufactured-on-demand dvd's from the likes of Warner/Fox/Universal Archive series. Problem was - they couldn't seem to get dvd's out and in the mail in anything resembling a timely fashion. Either they were the most incompetently run rental business ever or they were just deliberately bad at it so they could charge for their service but not actually DO ANYTHING meriting payment. I go with the latter for a pretty simple reason: on more than one occasion I wound up paying a monthly "unlimited dvd's" fee when I'd only gotten ONE dvd that entire month and when I requested a refund, it was refused.

They're no longer in the rental business and are now a small boutique company issuing dvd's of older films*. I haven't seen reviews of any of their releases, but from my dealings with them as a rental provider, I can't expect much. It looks as if the few titles they've put out are all public domain films.

*I have seen a few of their dvd releases and they're uniformly terrific. They have found the best available prints for all the films I've seen and added plenty of bonus features on some of the discs. Color me surprised - I didn't think they could do anything right.

Please retract my negative review of Classic Flix. This was due to my lack of patience. Classic Flix responded to my issues and my item is arriving today. Again please accept my apologies!
