Finally a place that lets red blooded Americans speak their mines. Many sites cater to liberals or democrats. This forum appeals to real Americans not the Obama crowd. Trump supporting Americans can freely express their politically incorrect views without having to worry about offending sensitive snowflakes. Information is accurate and honest. No filter, just straight talk and none of that mainstream liberal garbage you see on other social media places. I love it. God bless city data forum and America.

Many of my posts are deleted while others with similar off topic or even attacking others stay on because it meets their RW political agenda. They are trying to get me booted off permanently and then simply will be an echo chamber. Sad.

I finally walked away from city data. My issue was with political & other controversy. The mods favor left leaners if not outright Trump haters. They cheer on our present bumbler.

The senior areas are rife with self important elderly. Most are spouting about the trips they've taken or will take. Constantly one upmanship regarding retirement and how much $$$$ they will get when they retire.

They usually remove political sniping in other forums, but not always. They also will not respond to explain why your post was deleted except to tag it falsely

If you like to enjoy discussion, don't waste your time there

If you're planning on moving to a different state city this site is pretty good there are of course thousands of people on the site and they will help you right and left.

There's work, psychology, personal experiences and non romantic problems stuff like that general things once you get into the politics well some people say it's right wing some people say it's left wing some people say the moderators are too heavy-handed some say they're not heavy-handed enough.

This is also really good is that you can direct mail a message to posters asking questions and probably I'd say 95% of them happily respond with good information and helpful suggestions.

The rest are mean nasty cranky and ignorant...

There are a lot of regional sites for US states, these can be pretty good. Automotive section is also decent. There is also a politics forum, which can be pretty rough, as you might imagine. That's okay, but the moderation, at least the moderation by Ibginnie, is terribly biased, and is unprofessional. They are obviously a rabid conservative. They let all kinds of ugly misbehavior by conservatives go unchecked, but if you set one foot over the line with a liberal or anti-Trump view, you get an angry, snarling private message from moderator Ibginnie and you get your account suspended. That's one quiet, stealthy way of making sure that Trump looks good I guess, but they don't bill themselves as a bastion and defender of MAGA, they describe themselves as just a friendly, general purpose site. Definitely NOT fair and unbiased - rabid, Trump-defending dragons dwell here as moderators.

I first started using City Data to get information an upcoming move. Whenever a new person talks about moving to WA state or any state, the same people come on and talk up the good stuff. Aside from WA rain, no one mentions anything bad. The site is full of realtors who will say anything to make a sale. There is too much dishonesty and beware of hiring a realtor from here.

If you want to go to the Alt med health forums, the mods are all pro medicine and will frequently shut down threads that don't agree with their views. They are fine with a certain group of pro med people making fun of those on Alt medicine. If you defend yourself, it's a good way to get banned for awhile. The pro med trolls never get banned.

The political forum is crazy, I don't go there anymore.

City Data is full of dishonest people and trolls. On the plus side, I've also met some nice people and it has good dog and animal information. It's a public site, so be aware and don't give out personal information.

I was banned from City-data after I made a truthful post about working with mental illness. I spoke of my several mental health issues in response to a post by a schizophrenic who has been unemployed for some time. I guess that my life was too much to handle for the mods, as I for banned for being a "TROLL". Oh well. But I did like it that the site had a lot.of features for a message board (blogs, customizable profiles, etc.)

The reviews crying about "neo nazis" and "white supremacists" are liberals who undoubtedly spent most of their time in the Politics and Other Controversies forum being nasty and rude. I've gone in that forum before, and I understand why so many get banned. It's an insane asylum. What they don't tell you is that they got banned because they were rude, directly insulting, or they had multiple infractions before, but kept doing what they did.

There are more liberals on that site than anyone on the right, and most of the mods are not "right wingers".

The biggest way to get banned, and what most people get banned for, are direct "personal attacks". You can't say 'You're an idiot", but you can see that kind of talk on that forum all the time.

There are many, many forums on City Data, not just the politics forum where some people can't stand that others do get to have a say, and they don't get to "cancel culture" all of them.

However, if you're looking to use the site when relocating, I wouldn't do it. Based on my own experience, and what I've seen others go through, people are nasty, no matter what state they are in. Someone comes along and asks questions about the area, and all the jerks in there start hounding them about not "doing their research". The reason the person looking to relocate is there is because they are doing... research. But the locals, no matter what state or city, pile on, and it's because they don't want anyone moving there.

Other forums are okay - not all of them are worth spending time in unless you like talking about useless things like tv shows.

But, let's get to the meat of the issue: The mods.

Some forums have really good mods. Those mods are very fair, they participate, they are never nasty, rude, arrogant, etc. Those types do actually exist on City Data.

Then there's the others. How these people became mods, and continue to be mods, I don't understand. I don't think someone who moderates a highly charged forum LIKE the Politics and Other Controversies forum should be able to then make posts on that forum being just as nasty as they can be. I've always viewed a MOD as someone neutral, but you don't get neutral mods on City Data. They do have a bias when they close threads for no good reason, cut people's posts and call it "trolling", or hand out infractions left and right for the dumbest of reasons.

You are also told in the TOS that you are not to question the mods actions. What kind of militants are they? You can't question? You can't discuss the mods actions? What are they afraid of?

I will also agree that their definition of "trolling" is NOT actual trolling - it's whatever they deem to be annoying. (Some of the reviews reveal how often the mods rely on "trolling" as their excuse.)

Overall, City Data is a place to go if you have nothing else to do with your time. It is not a place to go for quality debate, information, or resources.
