They provide a local phone number for your prospective employer to call, and will either answer the call live and set up a voicemail with the reference-provider's name.

I checked with my prospective employer and these guys returned the reference call and the employer was satisfied with the reference. It's legit and it works.

I can't say enough good things about Careerex. And I was able to get a six figure job by using their service. The reference they spoke to from careerexcuse couldn't have been better! I was able to write my own email reference coming from a previous 'job' for a 2nd reference. Recieved call within a half hour of email sent with a job offer! If your job history is spotty like mine you can't ask for a better resource than careerexcuse.com!

There is only one person behind this company and that is Jennifer Hatton. Who knows if that's her real name or a disguise for William Schmidt, the so called founder of Career excuse. This person will email you a lot of jibe making you believe that are going to help you but a few days after your payment has gone through they will disappear. No service. No money back. No reply to your complaints. Just gone. I wasted $195 with them don't be fooled like I was. Besides all that, the websites and companies they create can easily be identified as fake. They would not create a new company for you but they would recycle details of referees for multiple companies given to multiple members. So for anyone doing a basic google search your 'referee' would come up as someone having several different job titles working simultaneously for several companies simultaneously. Wouldn't that raise a red flag with a prospective employer? Unless you are planning to work for someone really stupid. So there's basically no work from them for your cash. Believe me even if they were to do what they promise instead of running with your money, they are incompetent and cannot provide you with a professional service. You will only be left red faced when your prospective employer will find out you tried to scam them. It's not worth it. Avoid them.

So Far so Good
April 20, 2021

Everything is straightforward once a the account is setups. Monthly maintenance payments are cheap. It's nice to have a reference on your side especially if you are lacking a bit network.

I have used career excuse twice now and have nothing but the best things to say about Jennifer Hatton and career excuse!

I first decided to use their service after being laid off. The first company I worked for out of college was one of those multi-level marketing while my experience there was great and I got promoted multiple times to a management role running a sales team to running multiple sales teams across many locations. The experience was great, relevant it taught me a lot of valuable skills across: sales, leadership, training, strategy, finance, recruiting, HR, and business. However when I decided to move on after 5 years, my resume looked like I was jumping from job to job -- when in reality I had been with the same company (essentially) for 5 years. I knew it would read terribly to employers, and it wasn't an accurate reflection of my loyalty to the companies I have worked for or my success in general.

It's great very thorough company website, phone number, very due diligent and professional. And when someone does call your references from career excuse they send you and email following up letting you know the questions they asked and the references response. So you are completely aware and at ease. THEY are the BEST!

To be honest any negative reviews you read about them take with a grain of salt. Let's be honest-- if someone didn't get a job because and wants to blame it on career excuse it's not because they gave the person a bad reference-- they are probably just a bad employee. Let's be honest. But I have used them twice and they are the best.

They Got me a job!
September 4, 2015

Disclaimer: I'm not an employee or any way affiliated with Careerexcuse.

I'm not one to write reviews but I can honestly say that Careerexcuse helped me tremendously. I feel like no program is perfect. Unless you're in the education, medical or law field Careerexcuse can really cut you a break. I see some bad reviews and I was skeptical at first but everyone was really responsive and helpful when it came to serving as a reference. I don't have any complaints. I was really nervous when I was going to use these guys but you have to utilize the services correctly! Be very descriptive of what you would like for them to say about you.

They go off of the information you give to them so if you aren't giving them much then they can't really provide a good reference for you and the prospective employer will know! People call this a dishonest service when in reality, the job market is rife with competition, especially with me living in a major city with thousands of people. So if anything this is just adding an edge. The only way I can think of someone not responding to you is if like I said you're in a medical or law field or work for the government. Any sort of obstruction of the truth would be dangerous.

The price is worth the service. I really recommend

I've used this company twice now. I previously had a landlord who although paying my rent on time and leaving the place spotless completely ghosted when it came time for me to move out, didn't respond to reference requests and only returned my deposit after I began legal proceedings. Regardless of the fact that I didn't cause any issues - I know how bad it looks to a potential landlord and I was desperate. I was IMMENSELY stressed when I found this service, but I just prayed it was genuine. Amey was unbelievably reassuring when I first contacted them - she explained everything on how it would work, what I needed to submit, and I got approval through the referencing company in 1 DAY. A 24 hour turnaround! It literally removed a ton of stress and anxiety. When I went back the second time Amey actually remembered me, which I was suprised and impressed with, and reminded me what to do, she was even very patient when I had issues with payment - but honestly these guys are worth every single penny as i'm sure we've all had landlords and bosses that have our lives difficult through no fualt of our own - highly recommended.

I had trouble to use my previous manager as a reference as she dislikes me personally. It was extremely unfair that I had to use her as a ''professional'' reference when she was ''personally'' against me. She made me lost a job opportunity. I was so desperate and I couldn't find other referees due to the previous job was my first official work experience. I eventually found a website that's called Careerexcuse. To be honest, I was suspicious at first as I thought they might just fraud my money and never provide me the service. But I was running out of options and thought I might just give it a try. All my worries did not happen. Amey, Jennifer, and William are such a great team. They provided me a local number even I am overseas. They make the most optimal and realistic reference check for you. All the companies I applied have successfully gone through their reference check. If it wasn't them I will still be sitting here without a job and winging about my hateful boss. I am so overwhelmed with the positive result... Amey and Jennifer were so supportive and I can't word how much I appreciate them. I will definitely come back to them one day I need their help. All I can say is THANK YOU.

I was desperate at the time I used this service it was about for years ago. I did everything thru Jennifer. At times I was concerned when I didn't hear back for a day. But she always replied and let me know how busy she was and the status on my project. And at the end it worked got hired for three jobs only took one. The people who got scammed I'm not sure what happened. But for the other positive reviews I can believe them because it worked for me. So I guess my advice to the non believers is only do it if you have some money to spare or if you are desperate like I was. The fake web sites they use are pretty legit and go down as soon as your time with them is done. Like you pay for a certain amount of time for references and stuff if I remember correctly. I couldn't believe how well everything came together my family thought I was crazy for trying this but I think they just thought it was morally wrong either way when I got into the field I needed it was a great and wonderful day. Thanks Jennifer. Maybe the people that got scammed was on them they do tell you if you bomb interviews or aim to high like go from working at a gas station to wanting to be a CEO well it's probably not going to happen unless you know how to be a CEO then you might have a chance. Either way it worked for me. Hope this helps.

In this extremely difficult times, employers want a perfect resume
without any employment gaps. There could be multiple valid reasons why
you may have an employment gap. However, most employers are really not
sympathetic to your life situation. Once they see a gap, they will (99%
of them) throw your resume. CareerEscuse
work hard to fix this and other problems. They will provide a written
employment verification when needed to your prospective employer. This
is very important because many employers no longer accept verbal
verifications, and they require employment verification forms to confirm
your places of employment in the past. Not only that CareerExcuse customized employers based on my professional requirements,
they also helped to get a job with an employer who uses HIRERIGHT
background company by providing employment verification forms for
several employers to them. This is one of the most difficult background company
to work with! However, CareerExcuse did a great job to provide all the required forms to overcome this and other background company's strict verifications. Without CareeExcuse I would not get a job with an insurance company at one
point in time. I find myself needing their help again, and I am
confident that when an employment reference background check comes up, I
will have their vital help! I could give them more than 5 start If that
option was available!

Amey Lytle, alleged "Co-Owner" needs a lesson on embezzlement. (See Attached). Paying $5k in monthly phone bills so members can receive reference calls from hiring managers is the cost of doing business! NOT Embezzlement! What is embezzlement is asking Members to pay for a service using YOUR PERSONAL *******@MYBUNNY, *******@AMEY-LYTLE, ZELLE@*******275 (See Attached).

Why has CareerExcuse been taking members renewal money and not doing anything to make sure their phone numbers are active? That is theft of services!

With today's tough economic times and mostly indifferent HR personnel, even a few months of unemployment could mean the end of one's career in most professions. I am working in healthcare industry with extremely high competition among professionals, especially in cities. I had two significant unemployment gaps that would effectively take me out of competition for a professional healthcare job. I used careerExcuse company TWICE, and it worked very well BOTH times. This is not a coincidence but hard work of Jennifer and Willam! After I described my obstacle to employment due to unemployment gaps, they quickly customized APPROPRIATE employers to fill in those unemployment gaps. Not only that they quickly provide verbal verification of past employment, they will help you to have an employment of verification form filled out for each employer if you have more than one (if needed). Many employers verify past employment by requiring employment forms, and, therefore, this is absolutely essential. If you have unemployment gaps (generally just more than 3 months), 99% of the time (with today's economy), you will NOT even get an interview. I just got an offer and passed employment verification successfully with one highly reputable employer that uses a very strict background check company. If I did not use CareerExcuse company, I would continue being unemployed. Remember: HR are NOT sympathetic to your situation if you have significant unemployment gaps. They do not care to find out if you are qualified to work. They strictly make their hiring decisions based on your past/current employment, and based on lack of unemployment gaps! These guys are sympathetic to your situation, and they know how to help you to get a second chance in your professional career (not just any job).
