Better World Books

It used to take an excruciating amount of time for my orders to reach me (2 months or more). Once, more than a year ago, out of an order of many books, I received only one book; the rest were never received. And I had a terrible time trying to get a refund.

I stayed away from them for a while, but was forced back to them because I wanted a specific book and bwb was the only website that carried it (and at a reasonable price to boot). To my surprise, my order came in a reasonable amount of time, so my faith in them has been restored a little. I'm still a bit wary of them, but I might buy from them again if I find another book with a reasonable price and which I cannot find anywhere else.

Lots of books for a great price! I received my order in a timely manner a well. It appears that several of the books come from libraries selling their extra copies since several still had the library stickers on them. The books were in good shape otherwise. I will definitely order from them again!

With the libraries closed during COVID, we turned to Better World Books for our 4 year old's reading material. Sometimes I have a specific book or sometimes I'm searching for a character, like Spiderman, occasion or holiday, or type, like Lift the Flap. We aren't concerned about condition, except once several pages were ripped out, making the book utterly useless. Have also been able to get international books from their U. K. warehouse. Between being rewards member and coupons, I never even pay their price, which is way under list anyway.

I ordered 4 books and they only sent me 3 and trying to contact them about their mistake was very hard and time consuming, and when I finely did get in contact with them I had to deal with a stupid robot at first. And their way of fixing their mistake was to not charge me for the book they failed to send. I prefer to order from thriftbooks.

Three books (purchased 8th March 2021) received promptly. All in good condition. This is one of the companies I use regularly and the service is excellent. Thank you. David G. Mills. We have placed 8 orders (75+ books) since the middle of May, and all of the orders have been correct and the condition of the books as described.

My observation is that the time to receive the orders has become much longer with each order. In tracking the orders closely, they often sit in one location for 5-6 days. Our first orders would arrive in a week or less, but now the time to receive a shipment is more like 2 weeks.

We have noticed that we get an email saying the books have shipped, but no tracking information shows up for several days.

There will be no Fahrenheit 451 in a world with BetterWorldBooks. The books are very cheap, and for every book I buy, BetterWorldBooks donates a book to someone in need to help literacy around the world. Also, the carbon-balanced shipping is awesome! Hats off to this company - this is SO much better than supporting Amazon. I will continue to use BetterWorldBooks for all my book needs.:)
There's just one thing I can think of that can improve - the books always come in the mail with a BWB sticker on the spine that is difficult to peel off without leaving sticker residue. I would like to see BWB use stickers that are more easily removed in the future.

This is my first experience with Betterworld Books and overall I'm pleased. First of all it's not Amazon and for me, thats a huge plus. The books by and large are very reasonably priced and of course free shipping is great. But being inexpensive means a lot of their stock is library books, which personally I'm not fond of and it takes a lot of patience to remove stickers and such. But on the other hand, it is part of their business plan to try and make sure books don't end in landfill and I can't argue that. The books came generally sooner than I expected and just as I was thinking one of them might not arrive at all, it did show up. I also like that they followed up to make sure the books arrived. Unfortunately, due to how they have to obtain their books, there are a lot of books advertised but out of stock. I have no idea how often they do get books in and some sort of notice might be a good thing. I will continue to support them and encourage others to do the same.

West with the Night by Beryl Markam is a collection of stories of her childhood and adult hood in Africa in the 20's and 30's (maybe more). I enjoyed the book so much have given copies to friends hoping they too will
Add it to their favorites. There are more books about Ms. Markham some of which I've read. Interesting characters. I favor BetterWorld books because they have a good literacy program, donating to those who cannot afford books.
