I have been a very happy customer for a long time, and this is the first time I received a book that was NOT as described. It was categorized as "Used - Very Good". The cover looks fine, but apparently the person who posted did not bother to open the book. The pages were covered with markings in ink (underlines and notes). I would have preferred to pay more for a book in better condition. At best, this book should have been rated "acceptable" with markings noted. The posting was Better World Books - West, which I had never seen before. Perhaps it is a second facility that isn't as careful.
Package came on time, was well wrapped and my book sent me a nice, lengthy personalized note prior to delivery! The mission of Better World Books is also very commendable and it is great to see books can be resent to where the need is. Makes you feel better that you are helping a good cause. Thanks!

The books and shipping end up being cheaper overall (that's right - even with Prime!), and the entire experience, including customer, service is warm and personable. Cherry on top: you can typically find older editions of hardcover, trade, and mass market editions - still in great condition! Highly recommended.

They have an incredible selection of used books. I see in other reviews that people are disappointed with book condition. Understand that this is a mass operation of used books with a very general indication of condition on the books listed. If the dust jacket is important to you, don't buy here because you can't tell from the listing if there will be one. Same with ex-library. They handle millions of books inexpensively and don't have the time or resources to be meticulous in condition descriptions. That's why the prices are so low. With that understanding, this is the place to get used books.
I use Better World Books when I can't find a title at my local bookshops and its out-of-print or really difficult to get hold of. I like them because they are independent, not Amazon, and help others, and have a great range. Occasionally I have received a book that was not as described, usually poorer condition than I expected, and each time they have responded quickly and fully refunded me the cost of the purchase. These are second-hand books and they do try to describe them accurately; I accept that occasionally mistakes are made!
Truthfully I usually wait until sales, then buy several books at once. The company is always polite, and I receive my books in a great turn around time. I am on their site couple of times a week to see what great books have come in now.

Better World Books is a great business. They offer free shipping on everything! And have reasonable prices on new and used books. The used books I bought looked brand new! If you're looking for a book, you will more than likely find it here. The site is very user friendly. As a result, of free shipping, you have to wait a bit longer, which I didn't mind. My books actually came a few days sooner than I thought I'd have to wait. I would definitely shop here again!
I was disappointed that the book had been rated as being in better condition than it was. The inside front cover was mistakenly produced upside down. Also, I wasn't expecting the label on the spine and it was not padded for shipping so a bit banged up. I'll keep it for the price, but I like sellers to be transparent and honest with me.
I've always had great service from BWB! This book was in excellent shape. It did have usual yellow underlines like a text, but that was not a problem at all, it was expected being a school text. Fast delivery and great that they recycle books -- especially some of the older classics that are out of print.
