Avis is a wonderful car rental company. I was about to run in and out with no issues. I told them exactly what I wanted and needed for my trip, and they went above and beyond giving me a sedan with plenty of room and great on gas mileage! I appreciate you!

Vehicle Rental Experience: A Cautionary Tale Preamble: A loyal customer with over 1000 rentals and a top-tier membership status, I expected to redeem my 36,000 points for a simple one-way truck rental from Las Vegas to Raleigh. Objective: Leverage loyalty points for a cost-effective, one-way rental. Experience: The company's app malfunctioned, and in-person assistance led to hours of wasted time, conflicting information, and a refusal to honor my points. Customer service (telephone) was a carousel of incompetence, with representatives providing false information, refused to speak with supervisors, and calls ending in hang-ups. Conclusion: Avis's disregard for customer loyalty and absence of a complaint department is unacceptable. The final insult was an erroneous charge of $1400 for a service quoted at $850 that was never correctly provided. Avis's failure to rectify their mistake or offer a genuine resolution is indicative of a systemic issue within their customer service operations. Final Verdict: Avoid Avis at all costs. Their outsourced customer service lacks empowerment and accountability, leading to a frustrating and fruitless experience. In my case it was a downright illegal theft venture by a well-known company. Test what I say is true, call yourself and ask to speak with a complaint department, not customer service as customer service will not help you if you find yourself in a situation like mine.

I was quoted $300.
They told me it would be an extra $300 for taxes and fees.
Another $300 for being underage (I had to re-explain my age and have them look at my license in their hand to get this charge removed).
Another $300 deposit.
I was told they would charge me the $300 deposit now then settle up at the end. (I assumed that meant they'd charge me only $300 right then).
They gave me a bill for $600.
They took $900 out of my account.
Then they gave me a car with a dired flyer stuck to the windshield.
They will not give me my deposit back until days after my vacation so my trip was essentially ruined. Upon posting my review Avis customer service contacted me. Outcome of contact by Avis customer service came out to condescending email letting me know they will email my receipt to me...so, no improvement on customer service or predatory business practices.
UPDATE-
I was contacted again and told all additional charges would be refunded to me. I have not received this refund yet but I have faith in the company's dedication to their word.

I made a reservation through Carla for 11am. Price was special offer and I got the rental for a very cheap amount but when I arrived they waited me for an hour. No reason.

Tip for consumers:
go early. they will make you wait.

After returning the AVIS rental car, an unexpected email notice of e-Tolls was received. AVIS has a separate operator for what they call e-tolls. I called to ask for a refund of their daily charge for having an automatic toll paying device in the AVIS car as well as a refund of bridge toll charges recorded on the device.

I have noticed several times that rates are better when I don't enter my wizard number. When adding my wizard # to an existing reservation, the rate actually goes up! Doesn't make any sense to me. Why would you charge your loyal customers more? Next, I called Avis to make them add my wizard # to a reservation (hoping to avoid a rate increase) and I was told there would be a rate increase, because they are unable to overwrite 'the system'. Why Avis tries to rip off their loyal customers is incomprehensible to me.

I rented a car from Avis Budget Autovermietung in Berlin, Germany for two weeks in July 2021. The rental began through an online broker, Qeeq.com, and the price was quoted in Euros. At Avis, the rental agreement was also priced in Euros. We had to return the car after-hours, so I did not receive a final invoice until weeks later when we were back in the United States.

Avis Budget Autovermietung charged us in US Dollars, resulting in overcharge of about 50 USD more than if they would have charged in Euros. After calling Visa, they removed the additional charge, but later added the charge back. The customer support at Qeeq.com also tried to help without success.

The Avis rental agreement states that they will charge 4% over the Citibank conversion rate if the customer chooses to pay in a different currency, but I did not choose this. My credit card has no foreign transaction fees and my credit card statement (which Qeeq.com sent to Avis) shows that all other transactions in Germany before and after the Avis charge were made in Euros.

After trying unsuccessfully for three months to get a refund on the over-payment, all that I can do is to warn others to be careful about being sure how you will be charged for your car rental with Avis.

Some workers are just insane, paid for scratches I didn't make already twice
Also push a lot for extra insurance

Cars are fine, a lot of locations, but the service is sometimes not too good

Rented a GMC Yukon XL at the Fort Myers airport mid July. 9 day trip out west planned with family as a getaway. SUV inspection on pick up revealed very dirty interior with candy residue on seats. No big deal. Took photos of all visible damage and stored. About 20 mins into my trip home I was pulled over by a deputy sheriff that I noticed was following me for a while. Turns out the plates/tag was expired! I should have noticed but didn't.
I realize that given the pandemic that rentals were down and they were short staffed. However, sending out a vehicle with expired tags isn't acceptable.
Be cautious when using Avis. They aren't very thorough with vehicle prep.

I will say the car was great but the bill made no since. I had to extend my car rental time which gave them more money but yet they charged me to extend rental. I had extended for 5 days but went in to just take it for one more day which the charged me half of what I was paying for 5. They charged me for extra items that they do not explain. What is licenses recoup, Extension fee and energy recovery fee? The car was full of gas. If im paying them to use there car for more days I cant believe they would charge me to add extended days fee. They never let me know any of these extra charges! I WILL NEVER USE THESE GUYS AGAIN!

Hi - I used Avis for a recent Euro trip for 3 days through Germany, France and Lux. All was fine and car was normal. Only really annoying thing is I asked if they had a GPS in the car and they said yes, but then didn't tell me the cost of the charge.

When I got my bill this was included, this was a nasty surprise. They need to be very specific about costs of add-ons.

Why do sites promise "best price guarantee" when they make it so hard to claim the difference between the price you booked for and the price you found later. The T&C's are so complex that I have found twice that I didn't qualify. For $30 or $40, it just isn't worth the hassle. But that's a lot of bad will - so I get vouchers for car hire instead and save $$$$$ over the avis price. They lose because they have to pay a commission and I win. Their problem. If they actually kept their word and made it easy to claim a price differential, I'd only ever go direct.
