Rented for 2 weeks out of Fort Myers. Pre-paid as there was a fair difference between the pay now and pay later option. Business trip was cut short by a week and guess what- no refund for the unused week- no roll over to another rental -nothing. What a bunch of lying thieves.
Will never rent from them again.
I rented a car from New Orleans airport. My rental agreement was for $95.20. When I rented it, the lady at the desk didn't give me any paperwork. When I returned it, the man didn't give me a receipt. He said I would be emailed a receipt. I wasn't, but I was overcharged $16.84. Avis is a bunch of thieves. I emailed their customer service. They keep giving me the runaround by asking for information they already have like my credit card, etc. I put in a complaint against them at the BBB. They said the overcharged was for gas. The tank was full. They said I was short by. 2. That means they are me charging $84.20/gallon. That's a scam and a bunch of thieves. Don't rent with them. If you do, get all the paperwork up front.
I had an extremely frustrating experience with Avis Car Rental that I need to warn others about. I recently made a rental car reservation with Avis for the period February 18 – February 21,2025, at Valdosta Airport. The reservation was confirmed in advance, and I expected to pick up the vehicle as planned. However, upon arrival at the rental counter, I was in-formed that I was on Avis' "Do Not Rent" list since January 8,2025.
This was completely unexpected, as I had never received any prior notification of this status. If I was placed on the "Do Not Rent" list over a month before my reservation, why was I allowed to book a vehicle and receive a confirmation? This caused significant inconvenience and disruption to my travel plans.
Avoid Avis at all costs!
I've been renting out of pocket since Dec. I have been satisfied. The Ford Explorer I was renting for 2mos plus needs service. I notified my agent within a couple days of having, GMC Acadia, had issue/s. The tires are ball. I advised her because of handling issues and roaring noises, my attention was drawn to the tires.
Feb. 17,2025, she said she would have a replacement for me in the class. Also, I advised given work schedule, time is of essence. She informed she would be out a couple days, especially Feb. 18, but everything would be in place. I show up to be informed by the rep nothing is available, especially in the group I'm renting, plus the only accomodation/s is a pickup or I can go to the airport. I advised I wasn't able to go out to the airport and it would be in Avis best interest to make accommodations given the situation of releasing a vehicle with balding tires. The rep didn't even want to look at the tires, just brushed it off with I will take your word. So much for spending probably over $2k...
I WILL NEVER...I MEAN NEVER! USE this company again for a car rental.
There is no reason to keep charging my card one month after my trip ended in the UK. I reside in the USA.
Just because you have my VISA number that does not give you permission to add anything to my card.
I never received an email or anything just another charge on my card. NO explanation for what they might be charging for. AND by the way your desk girl was so unprofessional upon turning the car in. The two working when the car was picked up were very good. I would suggest never using AVIS CAR RENTAL. Deceitful for sure
I would prefer to write a minus 5 stars review on AVIS. I rented a car in Main more than a month ago. The car was basically parked most of the time, since I was attending a workshop. I returned the car at the Bangor International Airport; nobody was there to receive the car or provide me with a return receipt. Last week, I got a letter saying there was tire damage and that my card was going to be charge an additional $83.00 dollars. They never provided prove of the damage (photos or video), which make me wonder if this is just a business practice from AVIS to drive more revenue. Nobody checked the car when I returned it, they charged me extra money without proof. I am guessing they do this regularly to many people across the US, so how much extra money they are bringing to their business? If you want to charge me more, the least you could do is to show me proof of the damage. I'm not happy and will never use AVIS again. I no longer trust them...and I will challenge the credit card charge. VERY disappointed.
DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS. MULTIPLE TIMES THEY POST AFTER THE FACT CHARGES ON RENTALS CLAIMING DAMAGE OR DIRT, I HAVE HAD ONE TOO MANY EXPERIENCES THIS TIME --BEING THE LAST--WHERE THEY RENTED ME A DAMAGED CAR---DID NOT INSPECT IT AND THEN TRIED TO CHARGE ME. THEN WHEN THEY SEE REVIEWS LIKE THIS THEY ANSWER ON THE REVIEW TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THEY WILL ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT --THEY WILL NOT. RECENTLY I CANCELED A RESERVATION. IT WAS NOT PRE PAY. THEY CHARGED MY CARD ANYWAY AND IT TOOK WEEKS OF BACK AND FORTH TO HAVE THE CHARGE REMOVED. NO ONE HAS THAT KIND OF TIME. ABSOLUTELY THE SINGLE WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS
Don't rent a car with Avis. When I rented a car, I was offered insurance which I declined. It's written in the agreement. When I got back I got a bill with the insurance added. An extra $300. After talking to several people at Avis, they told me they could only refund me 50 percent of the charges. This is simply theft and illegal. Don't rent a car from this company.
NEVER RENT A CAR FROM AVIS! PLEASE! Save yourself the hassle. This company has hands down THE WORST customer service I've ever experienced in my life and that is coming from someone who worked as a manager in customer service for 7+ years! We rented a car in Lisbon, staff gave us a car that they even said themselves isn't reliable. It was driven ONCE and broke down on the side of the highway. LOTS of black smoke and leaking oil. Car was about to BLOW UP. We were stranded on the side of the highway for 5+ HOURS with no water, food or bathroom. Police officers had to help us. Avis sent us the opposite direction to an office that was CLOSED. Missed a train we bought tickets for a month in advance. Currently been fighting Avis for over 2 MONTHS and still NO resolution or refund for this nightmare. Extremely disgusted by this company.
The absolute WORSE car rental location (Fayetteville, GA) I have ever experienced! I paid for a rental (three weeks beforehand), and when I showed up for my rental, the counter clerk informed they had given my rental away! They informed me and my friend that due to us being an hour late, they gave the car away! Not only was this a contractual fault, but this is also unconstitutional for a pre-paid customer! It's a holiday weekend and the car was prepaid, yet they made an "Executive" decision to give my car away. This act is a BREACH of the contractual terms! The contract states that a rental hold (prepaid) has 15 hours before declared a 'No-Show.' As a paying customer who is technically under a contract, how is this justified?! There are many car rental companies out there. In an economy that is already difficult, PLEASE do not rent from an unethical company like Avis, and DEFINITELY DO NOT rent from this location! This company is a class-action suit waiting to happen!
Guys I would suggest not to do business with Avis cause on my side they've been overcharging me and nobody from customer service knows where the charge comes from while on my bank statement it shows that it is from Avis, I even tried to get help at the location where I got the car from and they only see the current charge they are supposed to charge me with every week. My weekly charge is $ 323.64. Starting on july 22nd, 2024 they started overcharging me. They overcharged me $22.87 on that day and I received back on July 27th $16.18. On July 29th, 2024 they overcharged me $ 137.22. Here are the proofs.
This location with agent KURSHANTE is absolutely horrible. She is rude, disrespectful, and needs to be proud of the job she chose for herself. To add, she arrived late to work and entered the building with a chip on her shoulder.
Howard and Andrew were helpful and courteous. However, the outrageous behavior of Kurshante results in a 1 rating. Sorry, someone hurt you. Avis, shame on you for keeping employees around like Kurshante. I know times are hard Avis, but you can do better, too!
Let me add, this was my 3rd rental in the past 3 weeks with Avis and this last experience has left me feeling disgusted. Smh
Consumers beware.
I've been a loyal customer of Avis and have Avis Preferred status. I received a letter after returning my latest rental to the OAK location that I'd have to pay a $450 cleaning fee for "excessive dirt and sand" with "heavy severity." I rented the car for 11 days and drove it 1,500 miles with 5 people in the vehicle. We took great care to minimize messes in the vehicle. We wiped our feet if there was dirt and didn't eat anything in the car. The rental was in the San Francisco area which is known for car break-ins, so we hardly put anything in the vehicle and had nothing visible --- it was completely cleaned of belongings upon return. There was what I consider a normal amount of debris from 5 pairs of shoes going in and out of the vehicle for 11 days, certainly not more than a 5-minute vacuum could take care of. We've vacuumed rentals in the past when we felt they were excessively dirty, but this was not. I've appealed to Avis through multiple channels and have gotten nowhere, each time with them citing photos of the vehicle that do not show it was excessively dirty. At one point they told me that it's my job to clean the car before returning it. Their terms do not require cleaning, but say you'll pay a "reasonable fee" for cleaning if they determine it's excessively dirty, which was not the case with this rental. I can't trust Avis anymore because I can't roll the dice on whether my next rental will cost $450 extra, and I won't do their job for them to make the car spotless for the next customer after I've paid a full rental fee.
Vehicle Rental Experience: A Cautionary Tale
Preamble: A loyal customer with over 1000 rentals and a top-tier membership status, I expected to redeem my 36,000 points for a simple one-way truck rental from Las Vegas to Raleigh.
Objective: Leverage loyalty points for a cost-effective, one-way rental.
Experience: The company's app malfunctioned, and in-person assistance led to hours of wasted time, conflicting information, and a refusal to honor my points. Customer service (telephone) was a carousel of incompetence, with representatives providing false information, refused to speak with supervisors, and calls ending in hang-ups.
Conclusion: Avis's disregard for customer loyalty and absence of a complaint department is unacceptable. The final insult was an erroneous charge of $1400 for a service quoted at $850 that was never correctly provided. Avis's failure to rectify their mistake or offer a genuine resolution is indicative of a systemic issue within their customer service operations.
Final Verdict: Avoid Avis at all costs. Their outsourced customer service lacks empowerment and accountability, leading to a frustrating and fruitless experience. In my case it was a downright illegal theft venture by a well-known company. Test what I say is true, call yourself and ask to speak with a complaint department, not customer service as customer service will not help you if you find yourself in a situation like mine.
Let me star that would not recommend this company. I would not even give them one star. My Family had a horrible experience with Avis. Avis road assistant reps and managers were very unprofessional and extremely rude. We reserved a van at the Miami Airport the 1st van given to us had HUGE NAIL in of the tires. We went back again to get a new one and in our way to Orlando on MM 187 we had a flat tire thank God tire didn't blew up and after waiting for almost 4 hrs for tech to come and change the tire, the van didn't have an spare tire and the tire was not good because had a huge open on the size that was no able to hold air. We had 2 elderly people, 3 kids in the middle of the woods and they were no able to help us out and walk to the nearest gas station that was 5 miles at 1am in the morning. They were telling us to walk on the middle of the turnpike because they were not able to send someone to help us out. And if it wasn't because of the STATE TROOPER that were able to take my family to the nearest station at 3am in the morning and put us safe in a place where we had a restroom and be safe while we wait for the morning. Next they we tried to order som e ubers and guess what there were no ubers that work in that area. Finally, one of our family member had to come from Miami to p/up us. AVIS REPS & MANAGERS were rude and unhelpful. I even spoke with the manager and he. Was extremely rude and unhelpful. NEVER use this company. Everyone I encountered was unprofessional and super unhelpful. Rent elsewhere which is what we ended up doing with a much better outcome. Im happy this awful company is not getting my money. Would give a zero if I could. Horrible costumer service, manager is extremely rude and unprofessional. Very unpleasant experience Would personally never never use them again and would recommend everyone else do the same.By the way we are getting suing them for negligent and if we need to wait for time we are willing to wait but they are getting a taste of bad service and unhelpful.
Preferred customer with a prepaid reservation. Show up to pick up car and there is NO car available. There are NO cars at any nearby locations either. We had to scramble to change our trip plans. When you take money for a product you can't provide that is STEALING!
I was quoted $300.
They told me it would be an extra $300 for taxes and fees.
Another $300 for being underage (I had to re-explain my age and have them look at my license in their hand to get this charge removed).
Another $300 deposit.
I was told they would charge me the $300 deposit now then settle up at the end. (I assumed that meant they'd charge me only $300 right then).
They gave me a bill for $600.
They took $900 out of my account.
Then they gave me a car with a dired flyer stuck to the windshield.
They will not give me my deposit back until days after my vacation so my trip was essentially ruined. Upon posting my review Avis customer service contacted me. Outcome of contact by Avis customer service came out to condescending email letting me know they will email my receipt to me...so, no improvement on customer service or predatory business practices.
UPDATE-
I was contacted again and told all additional charges would be refunded to me. I have not received this refund yet but I have faith in the company's dedication to their word.
Rented a car from Avis at palm beach airport…returned it 1/12/24. Received letter today saying that it was returned with dog hair and they were going to charge my credit card $450! Called to say no way, I had no animal near that car! Looked at pictures that were taken and they said "oops" you got that letter in error, it was a different person😡-no apology or anything!
I have rented exclusivily with Avis for a long time. Never had a problem, UNTIL NOW.
2 weeks after returning home from Colorado Springs. (Rental #U*******) Picked up Tuscon, dropped off Colorado Springs
I received a letter from Nora Henry at Avis Operations Team, telling me they were charging me $450 for cleaning, stating there was smoke smell.
Neither my wife or I smoke, and we were the only ones in the car through the entire rental. This is TotaL BS. We had the car for a week, and there was NO smoke in the car, and there was NO smell when we returned it.
When we returned the car to Colorado Springs, we had to walk the key to the rental booth as there was nobody at the return aisle to check us in.
There was an Avis woman standing outside the booth. I had accidently grabbed an Avis pamphlet when I took my paperwork out of the glovebox. When she came back in the booth, she told me I had to put the pamphlet back in the car. I told her we were in a hurry and asked if she could just have one of their people put it back in the car. She was super rude, and without even saying anything, she walked back out of the booth, and walked all the way to the car to put the pamphlet back. She made us wait the entire time, outside in 25 degree cold, as she was doing it, and slowly walked back to finish checking us out. She KNEW I told her we were in a hurry.
I have never been treated so rude, and will now take my business to Hertz.
This charge is totally made up, and I would think by the totally rude person checking us out.
Bye Bye Avis. Obviously my years of loyalty to you meant nothing!
I booked a car with Avis and prepaid my reservation. When I returned the car they charged my card for an extra $1,000. They said the base rate had changed. I showed them the Avis email confirmation that stated what the base rate was that I agreed to pay. They said they can change it. I wouldn't have booked with them had I known that and I have never experienced that with any other rental company. SO BEWARE OF AVIS, they'll just charge your card for whatever amount they feel like despite anything they may have quoted you.
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
