All Poetry is one of the best platform to let new writers showcase their poems to the readers. I am absolutely loving it.

I ran into this site by accident so I am neutral either way, but...
I can tell you by experience that these bad reviews seem to be just a personal bandeta against Kevin and the website.
Like this "pay to post"... I've never had to pay a thing to post anything. Yes, you can get a membership starting at $2 a month (I think) that give you extra fonts and things, but to post a regular poem has never cost me a thing.

Yes, you get extra perks if you pay but isn't that the case with any other site? How else are the proprietors supposed to pay for their time, server cost, maintenance, and so on? I think what he offers in return for a paid membership is well worth the money and the cost is nothing outrageous.

Furthermore, having gone to several websites where you can post poems, I can tell you that this is the one place where I've always gotten feedback on every post I have completed. I guess the one main negative for me would be the fact that that if you don't pay for a membership then you have to forcefully review two poems from your peers every time you post a new poem. The site is outdated a little bit and could use an overhaul, but that doesn't really bother me. And that's about it.:-)

I came to AllPoetry in 2016 after being bullied and manipulated off of two popular sites by the same group of trolls and manipulators. The owner, Kevin, is fair minded, attentive to details and listens to the issues put before him with a firm but amicable hand. He does stay very busy, but that is to be expected from the largest and most popular poetry site in the world. If you have a genuine issue, he will respond to you, or... one of his many highly competent moderators will answer your questions in a relatively short time... they do NOT tolerate bullying, trolling or spamming. And they address issues of that nature very efficiently. It is a generally friendly community, with many fun diversions, such as contests, groups, schools and an active support group. While it is not perfect ( i don't particularly like the autorank system for its 'mechanical' aspects) i find this to be the friendliest, most user friendly, compassionate and effective poetry venue available on the internet. If you are willing to put in the time, you will earn amazing personal satisfactions from the process... by all means, check it out!

AllPornography
September 6, 2019

This site should be called "AllPornography" as it has many adult writes from which young poets are not protected. It is a cesspool of coitus and may as well be deemed a pornographic poetry site; which is understandable why some of the below comments state that they have been on the site for such a long duration. Free porn.

Cyber bullying does exist. Those who have not experienced it, will say otherwise in the comments below and they sound like cyber bullies themselves as there is a truthful way in which to hand out criticism, in an intellectual manner. Gossip is rife at this site, cliques as well that gang up on certain members.

Negative criticism or critique is welcome but can be done so in a tactful manner, without mental injury; many poets do have some sort of depression.

Why have a method of reporting, if your complaints are not taken seriously? The site emphasises constructive criticism and even gives a template on how to do so; but as usual moderation is non-existent. The paid membership and the moderators being partial to their complaints, for and against them, is true.

I find it hilarious, with the site hemorrhaging poets and with so many negative comments; that there was a sudden influx of positive comments, here at sitejabber.

If you want a good poetry site where a youth may explore their thoughts and ideas, while improving their poetry, without falling victim to gossip and sexual predators, look at other potential poetry sites, instead.

Thanks! We do allow adult posts, but they must be added to the "adult" category, which young members have hidden by default.

Mean comments definitely happen, but it is rare. You can delete comments, block users, or contact a moderator if you think we should review their comments with others and take action.

Positive comments - we don't advertise sitejabber on the site at all, so review sites this are only for people upset enough to google "allpoetry reviews," of which the vast majority are people that we've banned for breaking the rules in the past :( We are a moderated site & actually respond to complaints unlike facebook or other very large sites, so when action is taken the people who get a warning sometimes get upset about that unfortunately. We try our best to keep everyone happy :)

Idk I find it kind of interesting that one of the main gripes a lot of people are mentioning is that they don't get comments unless they go engage with other users. I mean I actually think that is one of the great things about this poetry community. It seems rather selfish to think you should get to just sit back and play the superstar reveling in praise whilst barely doling any out yourself. "You gotta go and talk to people, get friends and chill..." I mean jeez what a horrible thing. As far as contests go, I was under the impression anybody could conduct one, so why not go conduct the kind of contest you'd like to see rather than condemn the efforts of others. I also just want to add that after reading all the negative comments, I have more respect for Kevin, even if I haven't always appreciated his comments on my poetry, I respect that he addressed many of the negative comments and stayed calm and respectful even with the ones that included personal attacks.
I gave the site 3 stars because I don't find myself drawn to using it much. Maybe it deserves better than that but I tend to reserve four and fives to sites that blow my mind or have some real poignant value to society. I'm also a bit turned off by the amount a pro subscription costs, I mean maybe it's not so expensive for some people but it's an amount I really can't afford. That said, I do appreciate that the site offers a lot to free users. So really that's kind of non-issue. Though, I would like it if free users were allowed to include images within poem posts. In any case, I do recommend the site if you want a nice place to put your poetry and don't mind engaging with and encouraging other writers whilst doing so.

I am shocked to see reviews about being cyber-bullied or stalked on this sight. From what I've seen, it's quite safe, I do think allpoetry tries its best to prevent this, but I know it's difficult to keep all the creeps off any website. Every website has creeps, I've met more on Pinterest than I have on this site. Just like Pinterest, you should be safe as long as you don't engage in mysterious private messages. Stop picking on allpoetry! Every platform has creeps. If anyone bugs you, simply block them. If it escalates, you can report them, and I assure you allpoetry will take care of it. As long as you don't give out real personal info and follow basic internet safety like any site, you should be fine. Personally, Allpoetry has been a very useful tool for me to share and improve my writing skills. It is one of my favorite hobbies. I love writing, but I never had anyone to read it! Here you do! You can build followers and trade advice. You can share your talent in an overall (from my experience) friendly environment. There are also fun contests to compete in! They only things I don't like are the auto-ranking and groups. Autoranking rates poems on professional similarity, and I feel like that prevents creativity in free-form poetry or silly rhyming poems. (you can turn this feature off.) I also don't like groups. One you reach a certain level, you are required to join a group to continue leveling up, but groups are basically just a bunch of people chatting about daily life, not poetry. But if you write on your own, allpoetry is a fun and useful site! If you love to write, allpoetry is amazing!

You must be joking?
October 4, 2015

I've been on this site since i think 06, i erased 300 poems from my account, but this site is great. I have had disagreements, but listened to what was being said, and with patients i was taught how to write in form and meter.
You get out of it what you put into it. There are exceptionally gifted teachers who challenge and help othets improve if they want to.
There are also thinned skinned people who don't understand when it comes to an opinion on their work. I find that there are more helpful people than non on this site.
I have had a great experience here, the groups are a joy to be in.

In my experience, through seeing many upgrades kids are very well protected.

I believe that though there may be problematic people from time to time, you may discover its a very small percent, as this site is structured as a learning environment which is beneficial to those with a desire to learn.

I am saddened by what i see as false accusations of a site with a stellar rep for handeling tough situations.

In my experience, It is a great site.

They allow third parties to read your private conversations then let them make claims of misconduct against you and remove your work without asking you to on your own. Taking your work deleting it from you when they have no rights to do so.

And to answer mr watts reply
The poem he had no right to delete from me had a parity title to the person whom the site supervisor allowed hear say and finger pointing to violate my privacy of a private conversation between 2 individuals not the 3rd party who was pointing fingers with hear say. Which wasn't about her, but was about the site and how they rape your privacy rights and label you without evidence or an example.
I never even talked to the said poet he claims I was harassing and he did delete my work without permission (which he still hasn't got which he doesn't never get because he who is slow to the poetic metaphors of life).
My beef is not with the poet he claims I was mad at and was allowed to point a finger, but with the mccarthyism bad behavior of him and his site supervisor.

This user posted a harassing poem with the name of and about another user without their permission, which is against our rules. Sorry you had a bad experience with a user, but writing a poem with their name is not allowed :( We take censorship very seriously and only take action when it is required, like in situations like this.

Gets old fast.
May 1, 2018

This isn't a poetry site so much as a social site. If you want a social site, I'd suggest sticking to mainstream ones. If you want to get better at poetry, this is not the place to go.

Sorry to hear you didn't find it helpful :( There's definitely a mix of "encouraging" and "constructive" comments, so it's hard to know which one you're currently getting sometimes. The "automatic" ones you get upon posting a poem will be encouraging. Try out the "trade comments" tab, small groups, or some of the contests for the more detailed reviews. It can also take awhile, but poets often build relationships that let them trade detailed critiques knowing that they'll be returned.

We don't do "shadowbanning" - if you get banned, you'd be locked out of the site with the reason why. The only action I see for you was the removal of the "N" word from one of your poems last year. Please contact us on the site if you have any questions or are seeing any errors, that's the correct place for this sort of thing.

Used All Poetry for about 2 years as a paid member. The site did make writing and sharing poems very fun and it allowed users to determine if they wanted more in depth critics or just nice comments.

However, this site needs moderation desperately. The site tries to encourage respectful discourse of opinions across the political spectrum. If certain topics make you uncomfortable, or just don't want to read poems about things like how women aren't people, you could typically avoid them. However, when lines get crossed little is ever done about it. I was part of a non-political writing group and one member went off on another member, calling her every derogatory slur in the book and told her she was rejoicing in the the number of COVID deaths that were taking place. When people in the forum complained, moderators we needed to respect this member's opinion as she continued to harass others in the group. This ultimately lead me to delete my account as I just couldn't enjoy the site anymore, which is a real shame.

Sorry to hear that! Was that the leaders of the group you contacted? The site is moderated, but we don't go looking for trouble, just when folks contact us. Harassment is definitely not tolerated. Please contact the site moderators via the gear icon in the top right then "contact us" with a link to where the problem is and we'll be happy to take a look! Also the ignore list is a great format when there's one user, but we do like to be informed in case they're bothering other people as well. Community members that run small groups can always block an individual user from their group as well.

I've been a member there since Nov of 2014,
I've been writing poetry for most of my life. Since I was 14 Except for one poem in 4th grade.
I found my writing before AP was in one direction or frame of mind. But I've found my muse has opened up to new styles and flows or words. I enjoy the word prompts mostly. But enjoy the other contests as well.
I've found a lot of help and nice people there. Though some trouble as well
I don't appreciate it when people give medals for my poetry but then are able to take them back and give them to someone else. As I had that happen a few times. I spoke with some of my friends on there and they said that wasn't fair. And they wouldn't have admitted to their mistake or given the other person points, As she was judging someone else's contest for them and even though he asked for any style poems. She only judged a certain style. Even though there were others that were twice as good. (Not including mine) I avoid her contests and won't enter his any more as well. I don't think that should be allowed to be able to undo judging and take something away that was given. I also don't like how I can't copy and paste a section of a poem when pointing out my favorite parts when reading something after posting my own piece Yet I can when wanting to point out things I like or that I notice need improving.

Thanks for the feedback :) Contest re-judging - in the last month or so we added an additional "confirmation" screen on contest judging, so are now no longer allowing hosts to re-judge contests if they do it incorrectly. Each poet runs their own contest, so unfortunately I can't speak to them following requirements they put in, but I do know that *most* contests do a great job - it's just there are so many, that there are some less thorough hosts.

Copy+paste is enabled through all the site except the required "now make two comments" page that is for free members. We had some issues with new members spamming to get past that page and not realizing that we were paying attention.

After taking down my initial review I sat back and watched the display. The person stalking me has been visiting this page rather frequently. When they do so it is either to compliment allpoetry or deride it all in the same breath. I came to this website months ago to speak about my experiences over the years. I wrote that I was being stalked on and offline. The owner's reply to me was most unsatisfactory. He choose to blame me. When all the while the fetid despicable excuse for a human being page was and still is up and running. Confident in their shroud of anonymity. And perhaps doing the same thing to God knows how many people. How can such actions ever be considered as just?

As adults we are responsible for what we post. I take full responsibility for my opinions and everything in between. I used the site on and off for almost ten years. Allpoetry use to be a great place to write. There was so much passion, and joy in the written word. I was in my own little world, and it was wonderful. I learned much. I opened up myself and put myself out there unafraid of criticism. I learned to express myself in different ways. I shall always appreciate this fact.

Such does not take away from today's reality. I never asked for this, yet I am forced to deal with this every day. Someone has made my life very difficult for many many years. You had an opportunity to help me yet you have chosen silence. Such inaction is most despicable. I wonder how any one of you that run this site would feel, if the person who has been doing this to me and others would suddenly focus their obsessive attention on you and yours?

It has been a nightmare. It is the epitamy of everything that is $#*!ed up and sick in this world.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a user harassing you:(

Did you use the gear icon -> contact us from a page where they were doing it? That would let us see who it was - otherwise it's hard if you don't include their name or anything.

Also sounds like your situation was complicated by the fact they shared the same house as you and had access to your email/etc accounts? Unfortunately we let people reset their password via email, so if your email is compromised, there's not much we can do - I'd start with that. I'm not saying it's your fault, just that we can only do so much:(

We definitely warn and then ban users who harass other members on the site. We also have a thorough "ignore" process which you can use to take things into your own hands.

Please use the "contact us" link on the website with links to the evidence and our moderators can take a look! Thanks.

Before I review this site I would like to say that all you who are giving bad reviews must give careful evidence of what you are saying or you will not be believed. Warnings will not be enough. No one is going to listen to a warning if there is not solid reason to back it up. Like making the claim 'they steal your identity and poetry'. Give us evidence!

I can only speak of my experience. And I am quite a naive person so if there are shady things going on even with my own work I would not be aware of it. I can say I have had strange things happen that were not resolved. Their moderators only know how to fix routine things. I don't think they have training in security issues for their staff sadly. This is the only negative I see on this site. No matter what your problem they will just say it's a computer glitch. And perhaps they are right.

But I love this site so much that I was willing to pay a lifetime membership fee to stay there, and I don't regret it. I've been a member for 10 years now. I have also even thought of offering money for yearly scholarships every year so they can offer lifetime memberships to those who have talent for writing but can't afford to pay. I haven't taken this step yet but it shows that I think this is a very solid site with good people on it.

This site offers free poetry classes of every type you can think of, there are very skilled members to learn from. They have contests whereby you can test your skills against others. It has a forum whereby you can ask specific questions to address learning blocks. They encourage relationship development through groups and private messages. They even encourage and recommend publishing options and help you get started. The only thing this site is missing is active publishing recruits from different agencies who would choose you. I'm surprised publishers aren't using a site like this to recruit and create contract deals etc. with individuals.

First, Kevin and the other moderators do an admirable job of dealing with such a wide variation in people (many countries), expertise, opinions, attitudes, etc. I have been a member for close to 2 years and the best things are: you are free to post poetry of any type, any caliber, any opinion (almost), any subject. There are free tutorials, forums, contests, idea prompts, and exposure to many types of poetry you might not discover otherwise. Another good thing is that you can "ignore" or hide the poetry and comments of annoying members, and you can delete their comments from your comment history. You can also contact the administrators of the site with problems or questions and they are quick to respond. The negative things about AllPoetry are those you find on all such open creative sites. There are weirdos, trolls, angry people, and many who disgracefully write dozens of meaningless comments a day to compete for "top commentor" which only generates site traffic and nothing more. But we all know this. It is a pain to sift through hundreds of really, really bad poems to find a few that are worth "liking." And the "liking" is also used by many as a kind of social media thing -- I will like yours so you will like mine. And for me that is distasteful and hard to ignore. I am not there to generate "likes" but I am aware that if I do not engage in the social media kind of exchanges, I am unlikely to get many. Because so many people post, new poems are very quickly relegated to 10 pages on down the line. So it is important to follow those poets you like so you can go directly to their work and avoid the trash. Also, you can ask for critiques all you want and no one gives them. Probably because they want to make a short comment, garner more "stars" for their crowns, and hasten to the next poem. I don't know why the administrators have the silly "levels" -- I have selected the option to keep them off my profile. They are meaningless and add nothing to the site. Overall, a good bargain. You can join and post as much as you like for free as long as you are willing to keep generating comments on the works of others. And why not. Or you can pay to join at other levels in order to spice up your personal profile page, such as backgrounds and special fonts. Fortunately they have not had to resort to advertisements that wreck the look and feel of the site.

"For amateurs and wanna be's. Real writers don't join places like this." I've been in ACUMEN, ENVOI, IOTA, THE JOURNAL, KRAX, ORBIS, VIZ and I'm on there. Okay it's not the Poetry Review but it's a laugh. The printed poetry world is a cesspit of snobber and backbiting where you're limited to the 40 line limit of the printed page. Frankly I've read some better poems on here than in magazines although there is also an awful lot of rubbish. With it's read two to post one rule it's actually turning the writers into the editors which seems to me to make editing less monolithic and more democratic. That said if you want cash you're better off in a literary magazine but... What the poetry world hates about sites like these is they allow authors to build a direct relationship with their audience - which, of course, puts editors out of work. Still the poetry world clings to paper at all costs (and paper publishing is expensive). The proof is in the pudding. English poetry sales drop year on years on year because it is obsessed with writing things "that will still be read in a hundred years time" - not just writing things and leaving posterity to be sorted out by the future like people did in the past.

Thanks - " I've read some better poems on here than in magazines although there is also an awful lot of rubbish"

It's exactly our goal to encourage a love of poetry by both amateurs and experts. We try with the hand-picked "spotlight" poems to bring some of the amazing stuff to the top, but there are a lot of amateurs too. In-depth critiques are encouraged to help on the path to traditional publication + improving in general. Thanks for the review!
