I purchased AIG insurance prior to a vacation with my partner. Shortly before my trip I became unwell with the Norovirus (Gastro Virus). I was dully advised to remain at home and quarantine. In parallel, I cancelled our trip, which was very disappointing for both of us. Then comes the interesting part - the submission of a claim based on the in-ability to travel due to having a contagious virus... AIG response - my claim does not fit within their policy criteria! What a joke! So what AIG are saying is they would prefer I travelled and shared the virus with everyone on the plane, whilst ensuring I engaged the bathroom for the entire trip! MY ADVISE - STAY AWAY!
I purchased AIG travel insurance through Expedia. When ITA Airlines canceled the final leg of my flight, I was forced to buy a significantly more expensive replacement ticket with another carrier. Upon filing a reimbursement claim, AIG requested "Documentation from carrier verifying the reason of the cancellation/delay."
However, ITA Airlines has stated that it does not provide such documentation. I relayed this to AIG, yet they continue to insist on receiving it. This raises serious concerns about AIG's claims process, as they are knowingly requesting documentation that cannot be obtained — effectively denying valid claims through unreasonable demands.
AIG has been able to consistently offer me the lowest price on travel insurance and for those of us who may have to cancel at the last minute for medical reasons it is almost a necessity to buy the insurance. I have yet to actually cancel a trip so I cannot speak to if they pay out but I can say they are the best around.
This company is a total scam and has robbed me of my refund. I had booked 3 tickets to Germany last year as a gift to my family during Covid. I specifically paid for insurance through AIG with the chance that we would have to cancel our trip due to travel restrictions. I canceled the trip on 9/8/2020 because my work told me I was no longer allowed to travel a certain distance due to Covid-19. The trip was booked for 9/18/2020-10/4/2020. I have contacted AIG nearly weekly since canceling the trip. Each time I speak to a representative they tell me a check is being mailed. 9 months later and no check. They have scammed me and cheated me out of my money. I would never recommend them to anyone. They deserve less than 1 star.
AIG travel insurance added over $1,000 to an already expensive set of international flight tickets, but they promote themselves and word everythign so carefully through the company that you think you are 100% covered no matter what and it's worth it. "Delayed" baggage is not covered under them, only "lost" baggage. It doesn't matter that our baggage was lost both on the way out of the country AND on the way back in, and we were without out luggage for the entirety of our trip, had to buy everything we needed for a family for 10 days in another country, and we didn't get our luggage back until we went to the airport and found it ourselves. Then on the flight back we were informed that our baggage wasn't even in their system and the only reason we got it back is because we had our phone numbers on our bags, so the airline that ended up with them called on a whim. But no, none of that counts as "lost" to them, because we ended up with our bags in the end. So we spent $1,000 on the insurance, $1,000 on new things we had no choice to get, and two weeks of aggravation and heartache, and ended up being told no, even after an appeal to explain everything further. Never again, and shame on you AIG.
