I previously wrote a 1-star review of Acorn TV and would like to comment. I mentioned before that I enjoyed watching the series/movies that Acorn has to offer, but the service and streaming were a big minus. I subscribed for a year but could no longer view anything after 3 months. Customer service didn't respond. I have since subscribed to the Acorn TV Channel through Amazon Prime Video and am pleased to say there are no service issues. I would not recommend subscribing to Acorn directly. Acorn has a lot of series/movies worth watching. I plan to switch to another channel, like PBS, at some point. Switching channels back and forth offers plenty of viewing enjoyment. Acorn is now one of my favorite channels, as long as the subscription is through Prime Video. Oh, and eventually Acorn did issue me a full refund.
If you get on at all, the videos stream through in seconds. Totally impossible to watch. Constantly does beyond video you want to watch to the next in the series with no way to go to the one you want. Doesn't matter though since plays in a couple of seconds instead of the 90 minute episode length. Then it says can't play videos because there are too many people using account, when there is only one person using one device.
Too bad a lot of great shows but constant streaming problems. Constant buffering, all of sudden kicks me out of my account and tells me too many people watching on this account. No one else is watching. If you want to watch a program you have already watched to the end it is almost impossible. Contacting Customer service is a waste of time initial response is they received your message and will get right back to you. They never do.
Tip for consumers:
poor quality streaming and complete lack of customer service

I am getting increasingly frustrated that Acorn TV sometimes does not load all episodes of a series, so you have to guess how the storyline finishes. It's getting ridiculous. I found this recently for Judge John Deed, and also for The Silence. I'm seriously considering cancelling my subscription.
We are constantly getting 'video not currently available ' even though it comes up as available, or season 1 is not available but season 2 and 3 are. It's very frustrating and makes us want to cancel.
I initially attempted to subscribe to Acorn TV in September 2020. However, there was an unknown issue with the subscription set-up that would not allow access. As a result, I re-loaded the information (using the same email address, etc.) and eventually the App started to work. I enjoyed the content for a number of months (despite the App being somewhat unstable). To my horror, I realized that I was being double-billed for the subscription service, which is invoiced through Google Play. The billings were oddly timed, such that it was not obvious I was being double-billed, until a credit card statement eventually revealed that there were two charges for the same month. I immediately cancelled one of the accounts to stop any further blood-letting. At that point, I fully intended to continue using the second (i. E., remaining) account, as I still wanted to watch the programs, which I enjoyed. However, I soon found that the App did not recognize my log-in or password for the remaining account. As such, I was locked out, despite being billed every month for the service. When I contacted Acorn TV about it, they asked for some information (which I gladly supplied), but they could not track the account. In other words, they could not find my account - yet they were happy to (fraudulently) take my money. Upon complaining, they offered me two (2) free months that would be added to my subscription, as a token compensation. This was clearly an absurd offer, as I cannot access the account. What good would 2 extra months be? Needless to say, I cancelled the 2nd subscription (today) and have launched a complaint with Google. Clearly, the folks at Acorn TV are either unwilling or incapable of managing their own systems and do not care. My advice to anyone wondering about subscribing... do so with great care and with money you can afford to lose. Buying a subscription is equivalent to buying a lottery ticket with very long odds. If you run into trouble, which apparently is very common with the App/subscriptions, you will not receive any help. My 1-star rating is for the programs - the service deserves -5.
As a follow-up to my post above, I was eventually able to again connect with the folks at Acorn and attempt to do a reverse look-up for my remaining live account. However, they inexplicably couldn't find the account, claiming that this was caused by the connection to Google. I then cancelled the account as it was clear that this process was going nowhere.
Eventually, an Acorn rep apologized and offered me 3 free months of service if I would open a new subscription account. Despite my protest (that I paid for 5 months and got nothing), I did that anyway, carefully using a credit card with a short expiry date, just in case. I then contacted Acorn to let them know that I had a new account and provided the particulars. True to their word, they did add 3 free months to the service.
The lessons learned here are: 1) if subscribing to the service, do not use a third party like Google. Subscribe directly through the Acorn website; 2) after subscribing, be very careful to watch the charges on your credit card; 3) if you notice anything suspicious, contact Acord immediately; 4) if the issue is not resolved quickly, cancel right away.
The folks at Acorn seem to be genuinely concerned about solving problems, however, they may not have sufficient control of their own systems to actually do much when things go wrong. That's why a rapid response is critical. In my case, I've lost at least 2 months of monthly charges that I assume will never be refunded. It's not a lot of money. However, if I hadn't noticed the issue, I could easily have lost a lot more. Because of Acorn's partial response to my complaint, I have given their rating an additional star.
Tip for consumers:
Be very careful. I was double-billed for the subscription for several months and received no help from Acorn TV when I asked for assistance. I had to eventually cancel and received no refund.

New programs are terrible. They simply do not have anything new worth watching... I loved all the old programs and was well worth the money but not anymore.
Tried watching two episodes of dead still but the poor connection made it a very disappointing watch. The quality of the picture was in the main good but the buffering ruined it. New to the channel but will be unsubscribing. The content list seems pretty good, programs I would like but too watch but to many issues with the connection.
Doc Martin is a favorite, and i never noticed it's cast was all white. But on ACORN's opening screen every face is white. Very sorry i subscribed for a year! And as others have mentioned some shows are extremely low res adn blurry. Good grief!
The newest upgrade really messed up AcornTV taking away all of the wonderful things that made Acorn one of the best for streaming. They went backward instead of forward. If that wasn't bad enough, the past two days Acorn will not play any videos on our Roku devices. Customer service must be non-existent because they never write back. We have had AcornTV for years and until this latest upgrade, I would have easily given them 5 stars. Now that I can't play any of their videos and customer service ignores me, it's down to 2 stars. I went with 2 because they used to be great, and I'm hoping they get their act together. If not, we won't renew and will take our business to Britbox.
Many of the programmes are incomplete - for instance Balthazar only had first season and when season 2 appeared it only had 8 out of the 10 episodes - why? Very frustrating - and, why are some programmes not free to view if you take out a subscription? Not worth considering.
What is going on with Acorn TV. I used to be able to watch without any streaming issues on my Samsung 4K Smart TV, lately the videos freeze up and re-set and then I have to go back to the main menu and scroll through the menus to resume watching. I want my money back, but I've paid through August 2019. I cannot get any response from Customer Service--do they have anyone at the Service Desk? I am so disappointed the quality and do not recommend Acorn TV anymore.
Like the series I have watched but very disappointed in having to watch so many commercials. I am paying to get This channel the others I pay for do not have commercials.
I like many of the offerings on Acorn. But getting them to address the problems with their application is very difficult. A problem recently arose where, when I click on the series icons for Vera or Midsummer Murders, the Acorn application exits and takes me back to the Roku Home screen. Their supposed workaround isn't really workable. And, I agree that the new interface is a disaster, clunky, slow, and missing vital functionality that was available in the previous version.
What happened to the "WATCHLIST" on Samsung Smart TV's? I've been a yearly subscriber to Acorn TV since Day #1. And up until 2 months ago. The WATCHLIST segment has completely disappeared. I find myself handicapped without the Watchlist. And am totally frustrated! My version of Acorn TV has not been updated since September 2015. I would think that a major asset of Samsung Smart TV would be shaking hands with Acorn TV. But apparently this is definitely NOT the case. Sad. Very sad!
Love the shows. Love them.
However, there are consistent problems with programs buffering and stuttering. I have very fast wi-fi and a fast, powerful computer. But still the problems.
I have to wonder why I have no problems of this kind at all with Amazon Prime or even YouTube. Just Acorn TV.
Tried contacting customer service. Two weeks later I got an email back that had nothing to do with the problem. So whoever wrote it hadn't even read my email.
This service is cheap for a reason.
Thought we would try Acorn mainly because we enjoy British and Australian mystery series, We cancelled as most of the the programs are "not available in your area." Very disappointed.
Im not happy about watching shows with filthy language and explicit sex scenes and programs have no warnings to tell you! Not happy about this at all! This is my biggest complaint.
BAD Customer Service. Limited choices. Older shows need remastering. Price is good. I mistakenly registered for one year. 48 hours later I tried to correct this. They would not give me a refund. All I received was a pre-written form email. Two days of unused access should not cost me a full year subscription.
I like a lot of the programming they have however their ap on roku is a pain in the butt. Signed up for 7 day trial. Every day I would have to fully sign in, it would recognize my password so I had to "reset" to the existing password. Tried contacting customer service, submitted a ticket and then got an email stating ticket had been submitted then immediately got a second email asking if the problem had been resolved and if not reply to this email. Wtf? Thought I better get out of this before the 7 days so I've canceled. Got email saying I canceled but we'll see if i actually get charged. I'm not feeling confident that I will not be charged.
Also, there are 2 ways to subscribe on roku; via their ap and via roku acorn tv. They do not interchange so you sign up one way it does not cross over to the other.
I like the diversity of the new shows! But I hate the new Format! Go back to the previous format! Also I used to be able to the rate a show on the spot and see the rating of specific shows and now I cannot longer do that!
I had a email or password problem while setting up an additional Roku in another room. When I tried to sign into Acorn it would not recognize my email and or password. There is no customer service number on the website and you can only email them. Also, it seems that they do not work weekends since I have had no response to my email. Maybe i"ll switch to BritBox. I did request an reset link be sent to my email on file, but no reset email was ever sent.
My Watch List never updates, so I have to search for the same show every time I log in. What a bother. I can't believe Acorn hasn't fixed this yet. It's been over a month... no response to email about the issue. Acorn should post a notice to their website admitting that there is a problem and committing to a fix date. Radio silence is not cool.
The new update is awful. You've taken an excellent service and have made it hard to enjoy any more. Your shows are fine - but it's impossible to navigate the new interface. It's busy, kludgy, and sloppy. Why did you take the Watch List away? Often that was the easiest and most efficient way to continue watching a set of shows. Was Acorn sold to someone else - who's now working on the cheap? Something really bad happened. Get your act together.
I had Acorn in the US and now that I'm in Latin America I subscribed again. The content is good - the App works well and the picture quality is fine. What isn't good is finding out that the amount of content licensed for outside of the US seems to be VERY - and I can't stress that enough - limited. Every new program isn't available. On going back to Acorn their response is that some programs aren't licensed for the country I'm in. I don't doubt it, but Acorn seem to keep that information to themselves (probably to the point of misrepresentation) both in their sign up materials and in all of the messages they send advising of new content.
Rolling this out internationally to more expats seems to have been badly thought out. If they don't hold the copyright for countries then why make the service available?
I love the things that are listed on Acorn TV. The service just doesn't work. Videos freeze. I have Netflix and can play other video services just fine. It is too frustrating to try to watch things that freeze, need to be restarted, etc. I can see by other sites that I'm not the only one with this problem. Tech support seems to tell most people it isn't Acorn's issue, but I don't have problems on other services... just theirs. If these issues are addressed and fixed, I'd sign up again in a heartbeat.
We wait for monday when we will have new shows. Nothing but Murdock, which we love but no good mysteries. Dominion creek is nothing more than a canadian DEADWOOD. We are not crazy about PIE IN THE SKY. Rake maybe good, we don't care for it. We have started to go to other channels to get FATHER BROWN. What's going on with you guys? We loved Acorn at first but now you are going the wrong way.
