This was the first time I ordered a book from Abebook.com but I had a terrible experience. I ordered the book on March 15th and it was supposed to be delivered by April 12th. I followed up on April 15th to know the tracking number but it was told the book do not have a tracking number. I waited for 3 more weeks after the estimated delivery date but the book never arrived.
I order a book for my class and I got an empty box! Contact them many times but they respond after more then 1 month and now they say I am too late. So money gone and no book! Really bad service.
I PAID $65.00 dollars for a NEW BOOK. What the hell? You sent me piece crap USED BOOK that is written in. I needed the ACCESS WHICH IS WHY I BOUGHT A NEW FREAKING BOOK. What the hell? That's is illegal misrepresentation of products. I will report your sorry butt to any agency that will listen. MY INVOICE SAYS NEW BOOK. NOT THIS FREAKING USED BULL YOU SENT. Customer Service NIGHTMARE. I emailed your company seconds after a misinformed purchase was made on your site due to incorrect information in the ad for the book i ordered connected with this Order number AB-*******. I was not reached by email until 24 hours later, which is probably automated so they don't have to deal with cancelations. This site is ILLEGAL in the way it informs and deals intentionally denies your right to canceling a misrepresented product.

A few days after I ordered a couple of books I received an email that they under charged my shipping and needed me to approve an increase in the shipping charge. I approved it. A few days later I get an email stating my order is being delayed and they have no estimate for when it will ship, so they ask if I want to keep the order of cancel it. I respond within two hours to cancel it, and I subsequently ordered the books through Amazon. The next day I get an email stating they already shipped and it's too late to cancel/refund. I advise I've already placed another order and I want the refund. No response. Then FOUR HOURS LATER I get an email stating the shipping label had JUST been generated and tracking info showed it hadn't shipped yet and delivery ETA is 3wks. These people are scammer scum and couldn't be trusted to deliver for GrubHub.
EASILY get a refund for your unsatisfactory order by filing a DISPUTE with your CREDIT CARD COMPANY! I got my FULL refund fast!
I got the wrong book delivered and got EXTREMELY POOR customer service after sending AbeBooks 5 emails. They never gave me a return authorization number to return the book.
In frustration, I called and filed a dispute with my credit card company - they will intervene directly with AbeBooks and reverse the charge back to you! Do it and get fair treatment.
Ordered a text book for college daughter and paid extra for rush delivery. Tracking info showed that book seller DID NOT PAY FOR EXPIDITEDED service with US postal service. After 4 business day US postal service indicated that they could not locate package and as no expedited service was paid for they would not consider it an issue until 30 days. Both Abe books and book seller unresponsive. My bank via visa protection services has filed a complaint. Charges taken by Abe books even before shipping $87.
I used to order books through different bookseller. Abebooks seems to be attrative, since the prices are lower. BUT often you just don't receive it... and NO refund at all
I ordered 15 books on November 28th. It said it was shipped from indoo.com on November 30th but they would not send me tracking after two e mails, just a form letter. I received the books on the 18th through Fedex and it said it was sent the 14th?!? The order was missing one book and after several e mails I have not had a response. I will never order from abebooks again and I know that they are owned by amazon so I'll have to be careful not to get duped into using them again.
ABE Books is a marketplace for vendors. The problem is that ABE Books accepts all vendors, honest and dishonest alike. You should research any vendor on an independent site, like Google, Yelp, or SiteJabber before placing any order. ABE Books is honest but many vendors are not. I have used ABE Books for years and I have been cheated about 15% of the time, not by ABE books but by the vendor. However, ABE Books will NOT help you if you are cheated by one of its vendors. Do your homework first.
Already got 2 books which were supposed to be new but are not new at all. Waste of money. Horrified about the other books I ordered and I am still waiting for. Rly sucks
Complete rip off. Missed the delivery date by two weeks. When I reached out to them they claimed they couldn't trace the shipment which was laughable. They offered a refund. CONFIRMED the processing of that refund via an email. Nearly three weeks have passed from them and the refund has never been processed. Each reach out to them has been met with the standard "fill out this form and we will get back to you". STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS, SOMEONE IS LINING THEIR POCKETS WITH FAKE TRANSACTIONS.
Do NOT order from this site. They are out of Canada and are the middle man for books. I ordered a book that was suppose to take a month to get. I wait the month because the price was so much cheaper, should have been my first clue. After 5 weeks and still not receiving it, I contacted the book seller who only has an email. They wait 2 business days to contact me back only to be told they had no shipping or tracking information and the book should have been there. I called Abe book to find out what was happening, they said they had no customer service phone number for the Irish bookseller that I bought it from and that the only thing i could do was to work through email. Well, if they didn't contact me originally, what makes them believe that every would. I requested a refund through Abe books and they said it would take several business days to do. Ridiculous company and business practices. Not interested in helping you locate the book. Irish bookseller (3rd party) is also buying books from China or any other place that is not reputable and they can't track. I waited a whole month and now I'm stuck buying at full price. Totally illegitimate business... STAY AWAY!

Then after you pay they tell you it MIGHT get there in a month. Tried to cancel and they said it is too late. Part of me wants to fight them, and contest the charge with VISA, showing the evidence of how they bait and switch. Since the book as not as critical as normal for my work, I'll bite the bullet this time. BUT NEVER AGAIN. Adieu, or actually, au diable, to AssBooks, I mean AbeBooks.
Given the reviews I had seen on this sight I didn't really want to take the chance and purchase anything from here, but an item was listed that had a great deal. It was a book that typically sells for over $45+ (originally $13 at retail but it was out of print and rare), selling on the site for $11. I thought, "wow, this is a really good deal", and figured I might as well risk it for the biscuit and see what happens.
Surprisingly, the book came and it was actually a copy of the book. HOWEVER, it was an ex-library book that was laminated by that said-library, which was not specified on the purchasing. I am a little disappointed at that fact, but I cannot deny that the price was great and all of the pages seem to be in tact.
I'm not 100% confident this is correct but I'm pretty sure this site is sort of like Amazon - personal sellers have the option to sell their volumes on it, so I think the quality is up to the sellers from there, not AbeBooks themselves
Overall, great deals for what it's worth, and I'm going to keep peeking at their manga collections for good deals!
DO NOT BUY FROM ABEBOOKS OR SELLER ERGODEBOOKS! I ordered a book on Jan. 21 that said it was "NEW" in description. When I got the book, it looked like it had been used in a school library, tattered & worn. I followed Abebooks protocol & sent photos of book & returned book within the 30 day period. My "tracking number" shows that they received my book in their warehouse on Feb. 11th. They assured me through email that I would be refunded not only for book, but for postage as well. Since then, I have not received a refund or heard back from them after repeated emails/phone calls to them. Wouldn't this be considered "theft" of a customer?
I have not purchased much from ABEBooks.com, because I can usually find a better price elsewhere, but the recent book I bought will absolutely be the last.
I purchased a Python coding textbook. It was an international version and I know to be careful with those, but it was advertised as "Brand new book. This is an international edition textbook with identical content as the US version and is usually paperback bound instead of hardcover."
It turned out to be very used and not identical at all. My first assignment was a processing exercise that did not even exist in the book I got, so not identical. Also, the ad claimed that the seller, booksdeck, is 5-star and they are not.
I started a return on the book (8/24/21) and the seller expected me to pay for shipping. I emailed the seller and asked why I would be responsible for that since the book was falsely advertised. I did not receive a response. A week and a half had gone by, so I decided to just pay the shipping and send the book back. A week after I sent the book, the seller rejected my return request. I sent them the USPS tracking number and also contacted ABEBooks about it. I now have nothing else. All I know is that I do not have my money back, I had to pay for return shipping, and I am tired of dealing with this ridiculousness.
No one has time for hassles like this. Personally, I will never buy anything from ABEBooks again and I implore you to please, please, please consider other options before buying from ABEBooks.com

More than THREE weeks later my order arrived via USPS MEDIA MAIL, NOT Priority MAIL which I had paid for.
E-mailed again asking for refund for shipping due to seller NOT shipping via Priority mail.
Seller responded as if they didn't understand what I was asking for. Said "you got your package on time".
Their books collection is quite massive and the quality they provide is great too. I have been a regular customer of Abebooks and I love purchasing from them.
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
