I asked the same question and I actually contacted the airline to ask this question and the airline told me that how they can offer these deals is the buy tickets in blocks and offer some at discounts to entice you to visit the site and then once there the limited number of discounted tickets end up sold quickly but regular priced tickets or inflated price. Tickets are what are left and they leverage the fact that enough people will buy the tickets at the regular price or the inflated price to offset the discounted tickets. Hotwire and others use similar tactics.
