It is truly amazing to see the number of people unhappy with TheRealReal! Obviously by the five stars I gave them my opinion is exceedingly high of not only the merchandise purchases, the condition of the item, the timeliness of delivery and very importantly the authenticity of each item. I note a lady said a purse she bought was plastic - does she not know MOST of handbags by that particular manufacturer are canvas covered with plastic!
Concerning service - my experience has been absolutely excellent. Yes, they have grown and are apparently unable to answer each call immediately but if the caller will just leave your name and phone number they WILL get back in touch with you. Generally I have been contacted by email the same day or certainly by the following day. I have never had a situation where it was so absolutely necessarily urgent I speak with someone RIGHT NOW, so I am unaware of how to accomplish that. The best approach, I have found is to email TheRealReal. In fact just this morning emailed a lady and thanked her for "the consistency of the excellent service".
I am aware one situation they had a month or two ago - the company apparently has grown as well as found a large amount of items are coming from or going to people on or closer to the East Coast. So they transferred about half of their merchandise to a newly located facility in New Jersey. And now they are changing the address to which you send your returned purchased. I can only think both of these situations are causing temporary upheaval within the company.
I discovered them the end of September, 2014 and have bought an obscene amount of items from them since that time. It has gotten to the point I do not answer the door bell when I know it is the UPS delivery man. Why not, you ask? Because I am most embarrassed over the number of boxes which been delivered to me from TheRealReal. I have bought everything from shoes, jewelry, handbags, sweaters, blouses and dresses. The selection they carry is absolutely mind boggling. When selecting a category the number of items shows on the screen on the top left. It is amazing how they keeptrack of SO many items and sometimes little items at that. You get the idea, I have bought from just about every category they offer. May I say I have been exceedingly pleased. A caveat, however as to HOW I buy. The measurements given on items is often, shall we say less than correct. To be as certain as a person can be when, the basis of your decision to buy an item is based only on the descriptions, which are ever so brief and the condition of the item which are frequently described with about the same wording for everything, is to NOT look for the cheapest items. Yes there are some wonderful less expensive items but it would be unusual to find a really nice Oscar de la Renta sweater for $75. They DO exists but it seemed to me, from my quickly learned experience to observe how the item looks. How does it fit the model (and she really has a peculiar figure - looks like she is continually climbing stairs, to me). For instance - if an item is marked a L (large) and the description says it has a 34" bust, 28" waist and it seems to fit the model like the measurements, not the "L" sizing, use your powers of observation about not only the size but also what the condition looks like. I soon found I shopped the 'Small', 'Medium' and 'Large' boxes on the left side toward the top of the screen. Most of what I have bought seems to have come from the 'Small' or the 'Large' when I guess I am a 'Medium'. I am 5' 8", weighing 118 pounds with an hour-glass figure. If you've not shopped designer cloths or for that matter foreign made cloths, fine a conversion chart to determine your size in U.S. sizes and how it converts to English (UK) made cloths, or French (FR), or Italian (IT). TheRealReal infrequently uses foreign sizing but more often indicates 'no size available' or label removed and sometimes uses the foreign sizing. They are REALLY different from our sizes!
But I could go on and on and on, and apparently am doing so with this massive missive regarding my feelings about TheRealReal, possibly because I believe they have gotten a "bad rap" and would like to express the thoughts of a very happy customer. I have found so little wrong with them I can not even mark them down a half a star, which is why I am SO AMAZED at the previous postings. It might be beneficial to contact them IF you have a problem. Some of the problems mentioned are so unlike my experience, fortunately. I have spent a great deal of money with them in the past three months and will continue to go to them for any need I have. I am MOST HAPPY WITH THEREALREAL.
I wish them THE VERY BEST and I thank them for all they have done for me.
I am a very loyal customer with absolutely NO connection to this company, I live in Texas and I had never shopped consignment previously.
Thank you TRR.
