In late July we checked the Cabela's Canada website for stock levels. It showed that it was stock at the local store, so we drove 45 min to buy it only to find that it wasn't in stock.
Instead, on August 1 we placed an order on the Cabela's website. There has been no communication about the order since. It's been almost 3 weeks, so I email Cabela's a couple of days ago to ask but received no answer.
So today I called Cabela's, and after holding for 20 minutes the representative said she had no information other than "I've heard our warehouse is behind". All she offered to do was email them to ask them to "speed up" the order. That's it. No offer to follow up with an update, no offer to take control, no apology or reasonable explanation.
Well after almost three weeks, I expect something more firm than that. This was the most unprofessional, time-wasting, head-shaking experience I've had with a large retailer. It's like they think it's okay to do business like a poorly-managed 1960s dinosaur.
I cancelled the order (with nothing but a promise to send an email confirmation of the order within the next couple of days) and will avoid Cabela's online or in-store from now on.
