I thought I was making a reservation on Trip Advisor but it turns out it was with getaroom. This company is either shady or stupid. There was a mix-up with my reservation at a Hampton Inn in Springfield, Missouri. I MAY have made my reservation at a different Hamton Inn. I'm still not convinced I did. Because in the process of two completely unsatisfactory 20 minute calls to getaroom, they claimed at one point that I made my reservation at some other hotel I never even heard of. Then there appeared to be a mix up over the date. The whole thing was a confusing mess.

At any rate, I had prepaid my reservation. So not only was there no reservation at the Hampton Inn where I stayed and I paid a higher rate, but getaroom insisted I pay for the first night at the hotel I did not stay at or (knowingly) make a reservation at. When I protested they insisted that the one night charge would stand. When I called my credit card company they said that I was still being charged for all 3 nights!

I now have a call in to a TripAdvisor Site Supervisor to discuss why they would allow themselves to be associated with an online booking service MORE THAN HALF of whose ratings contain a single star - the lowest possible rating. I was told by a person at TripAdvisor that it is the hotels who choose their booking services. So I also have a call in to Hampton Inn. I also plan to contact the Better Business Bureau as other reviewers have done. This so called 'service' should be shut down. I am a retired schoolteacher and I am not giving up. This sort of dishonesty is a crime. And these people should be punished for fraud.

I have just had a terrible experience with Getaroom.com, a site I was bumped to from Trip Advisor while making a reservation at a Hampton Inn. Hampton Inn has been fabulous and cheerfully refunded the disputed amount. BUT Getaroom is still trying to force me to pay for a night's lodging at the Hampton Inn even though they have already refunded Getaroom their money! Apparently Getaroom's business model is to force you to pay for a room you didn't use even when the hotel has refunded the room charges?
There are (at last count) 1328 reviews for Getaroom. Over half - 714- give a single star which in their words equals a rating of "Terrible". Why is TripAdvisor, a trusted site I used to rely on completely - allowing themselves to be associated with this fraudulent and dishonest organization? All the reviews use words in their headlines like SCAM, FRAUD, BE WARNED, MISLEADING. These reviews could not be worse. TripAdvisor people, please wake up and get rid of these crooks. FYI I am also contacting the folks at Hampton Inn who apparently authorize Getaroom to do business on their behalf. No reputable company should want to be associated with this website.
