It's now been two weeks since my items supposedly shipped and still have not received them and the tracking STILL hasn't updated. I sent a message to the customer service email noted in their comment and no one responded. I let them know via the bot that my items never arrived in the time frame, and was told a customer service rep would contact me in 48 hours. Well, this alleged message from customer service was yet ANOTHER automated message! The exact same message they sent previously. This is beyond ridiculous. I have now filed a dispute with Paypal so I'm hoping I get my money back that way. What a terrible company! Never again. If you want a reliable online used bookseller in the USA, go with Thriftbooks or Betterworldbooks.

Another update - I get another automated message that now the shipping time is 7 - 30 days - unbelievable! And the tracking status STILL hasn't changed. And still NO reply from WOB at all. Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau so HOPEFULLY they reply after that. Worst company ever.

This company sucks!

Never ordering from them again

I placed an order with WOB almost two weeks ago. I received an email notification that my order had shipped, but there was no tracking number. Using the bot chat on the website, I got the tracking number, and saw it had shipped from New Jersey. Since I'm in Florida, I thought, 'great! It should be here in a week.' Well, it has been 10 days, and the status has never changed from 'picked up from shipping partner.' I have ordered books from other vendors who use the same shipping partner (OSM Worldwide) and have received the books in a timely manner, with tracking updates along the way. This has not updated at all.

I contacted WOB to explain and asked if they could please investigate as obviously there is a problem. I tried this twice. Both times I got the same automated message. Both times I replied (as it said to do if the matter is not resolved) and never got a response.

I ordered from them before off eBay with no issues. But through their website, there is ZERO customer service. You're better off spending a few bucks more and go to Thriftbooks or Betterworld Books - at least with them you get to email / speak to a REAL person.

Oh - and I DID actually purchase something from them but I will not upload an image of proof of purchase as it has too much private information.

  • Better World Books

I have been a customer of Better World Books for quite some time. They always had good deals, and were pretty accurate when describing book condition. However, there are a couple of negatives:

1. My recent order with them was disappointing. For one, a book rated as "Good" condition should have been rated "Acceptable" as it has highlighting and writing throughout. Certainly not what I'd call "good" condition.

2. They need to stop being so cheap with shipping materials! They squeeze too may books in one envelope when they really should have either used another one or just used a box. One of the books I received WAS in very good condition, but is now bent.

3. Their Rewards program is iffy. The codes either expire too soon, or even when they are supposed to be good for use within one year, every time I've tried to use one, it always says expired! And customer service was NO help at all.

So yeah, I hate to say it, but I'm either going to have to look elsewhere or try shopping locally more often.

UPDATE: I contacted customer service and they refunded me the amount for the books, so all good - increasing my rating to 5 stars.

Tip for consumers:
Just be aware that when a book is rated as "good" condition, it's really more like "acceptable"
