The best website I've seen and used for writing and for reading stories and poetry. I recommend it to anyone who writes or loves to read, weather a beginner or expert.

I have been a member of Writing.Com for over three years, now, and I have loved every bit of it from the start. The members are friendly, communicative and all share one thing in common: writing. A countless variety of contests with some great prizes keep writers freshly challenged, and different groups bring members together for artistic, constructive and social purposes. The site contains extensive reading material that you can browse and review (critique/share feedback), and you can set up your portfolio and post your own writing to receive reviews in return. You can set up and sustain your account for free, and your account comes with email services. And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Personally, I have found this the most friendly, encouraging and constructive writing website out there, and I have visited a lot. I use this website more than any other, and I have made many friends, explored different forms of writing, hosted my own contests and activities, and my writing style has noticeably improved: my collection of poetry has rapidly expanded (reaching 200 in December 2013!), I have penned more than a dozen short stories, completed 500 reviews, and I have finished two novels and several novellas ~ achievements which I wouldn't have come anywhere near without the overwhelming support of this website and its members.

If you are a reader and/or writer of any kind, published, established or aspiring, I can't recommend this site enough.

Writing.com, the most paranoid, censored website ever. - Writing.com purports to be a site for would-be writers to develop their skills in a friendly accomodating community. It is so far from that ideal that it's almost criminal. The place is run by paranoid control freaks who will ban, suspend and delete you for the slightest infraction. A slight infraction could be anything from posting that you are unhappy about something to posting that you were treated unfairly in one of the biased contests. And let's get this straight, the contests on the site are all fixed. Don't expect to be judged fairly if you enter one of the contest that Writing.com seems so proud of. The contest are run by semi-literate wannabe authors who don't know the difference between a pronoun and a verb. It's shocking. This site is strictly for wannabe and failed writers. If you're serious about writing, don't bother with this place. And if you do give it a run just for the hell of it, steer clear of a judge named Arakun on the site. She fixes every contest she runs and will ban you for even the slightest criticism about her appalling grammar. Be warned.

It's like family
January 29, 2018

I've been a member since the very beginning in 2000. I've stayed for a multitude of reasons, mostly because this place has felt like family. I've met multitude of friends who I've continued to stay in contact with both on the site and off and they continue to help me with my own work by being another set of eyes and bringing another set of ideas, which helps give me more perspective.

It's like this within the site as well when it comes to their review system. Because of the reviews and help you can get from groups you can join, it helps inspire the writer. Writing.com has been an inspiration to me for the last 18 years. I even use it for NaNoWriMo (they have their own word counter as well), and NaNo Prep, because there is a group you can join that helps you layout your story so when it comes time November 1st, you can just write without the hick ups flash style writing can sometimes bring.

What is great with Writing.Com is that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. While it is great for the casual writer, it is also fantastic for those who are serious about their writing and the more effort you put into it, the more the site will work for you.

And if you have issues with anything, the owners of the site are incredibly active and always available. They're incredible people who are always adding to and updating the site always to make it more fun and interactive for all kinds of members of the site.

If you are a writer, I highly recommend checking it out and seeing all of what it has to offer!

I've only been on writing.com for a couple months now and it has already become a home away from home for me. I go to the site more than any other site. I don't even remember typing it into my browser, it just kind of shows up when I power on my computer.

I've read some reviews here about possible unfair judging of contests and whatnot. I haven't been on the site long and I'm not going to claim to know the judging process of every contest. I can say though that I've already won a contest in which I'm not friends with the judges, so I don't know about all of that nonsense.

Writing.com is what you make of it. You can be as reclusive or social as you want, but you will always have the support of its helpful and caring members. If I can randomly stumble upon it and already have such great friends in two months, anyone can do it. There is always someone who's willing to help with any issue you may have. Whether you're looking for a review or some help with a personal goal, you're going to find the resources and support on this site.

What makes WDC different from other writing sites is the dedication of its members. People devote a lot of time to their own work and to the work of others. There is a level of support that you aren't going to find on other writing websites. No matter what your level of writing is, you're going to find yourself improving if you sign up here.

Writing.Com is a community of peers. I have been a member for 8 years, am currently a moderator; therefore my comments reflect my experience, some of the reasons I remain a member; why I choose to stay.

Writing.Com is a community of peers. From the day I arrived, I was welcomed as a fellow writer, a peer, by both emerging and published writers. They sought my opinion, my review of their work, and encouraged me to post my words for their reading and comment. The founders, StoryMaster and StoryMistress, are constantly building the infrastructure, fostering creative expression, along with the means for members to enhance the craft of writing. Together with the Senior Moderators, they are responsive, ever available to answer questions, provide encouragement and guidance.

Members are free to create activities, forums, contests, which afford additional opportunities to interact in the Community; to write, read and review, for example, genre fiction, poetry, non-fiction, screenplays, lyrics, as they write on.

Let me count the ways, if only a few.

I've always felt that Facebook was partly pointless and decidedly dangerous. But social networking with a vital creative interest at heart answers both objections.

This is a much more civil place than Facebook. The Golden Rule applies in ways that we all understand.

This is a genuine place. Figuratively, everything is shipped in an open box.

This is a focused place. Who comes here comes to write.

This is a user-oriented place. Features are features, not revenue re-direct opportunities or bugs respun.

This is a mature place. The different spaces, from e-mail to newsfeeds to forums to portfolios and beyond are integrated tightly and logically.

This is a technically sophisticated place. Pages load cleanly and completely. Mark-up language techniques are fully exploited, while processing language techniques are kept the absolute minimum.

Michelangelo once said something about "hewing away the excess until the object was revealed". (Of course that's a paraphrase. Michelangelo spoke Latin.) In sculpting this website, the StoryMaster shows how to grow marble into an object.

Felt like coming home
April 16, 2018

I've been writing most of my life but pretty much kept it to myself, even though I wanted to publish. In 2013 I somehow managed to find Writing.com and joined, and frankly since then I've let writing be my life (when I'm not working, of course).

For the first time I had fellow writers to talk to, including about non-standard genres, I found friends, and I got my work critiqued. I felt re-enthused about my writing and felt validated that writing isn't a stupid past-time. I run contests myself and judge and review others and so have broadened by whole writing horizon. I even write short stories which weren't in my vocab before!

Writing.com saved my writing life and I will never regret joining (or paying for a membership). I'm publishing my first novel this June and I'm happy to credit the community at writing.com - the professionals, staff, and total amateurs - for helping me get there.

Notwithstanding the actual writing side, the site's easy and fun to use, and the staff a great to deal with and listen to user issues, complaints and wish lists.
