I agree that it was not any type of jade, but am quite familiar with soapstone and this was not that. Would not waste my money again on this site. ValueMyStuff provides a unique service, a fast and easy feel for the value of something. Apart from an easy valuation for insurance purposes, typically, the result determines whether or not one wishes to go further, to sell the article. The alternative is to take the article in person to a valuer, auctioneer, perhaps someone who may have a vested interest in buying what you may have and so not give an accurate figure. I have used ValueMyStuff 4 times and I can affirm that I am very happy with the results and I probably would not have ventured forth in the first place if this service had not been available.
With the appraisals I was able make informed decisions about selling and donating items in my collection.

The valuation told me about the history of the type of item. It made clear that my example is not antique but was also clear that it is vintage. The valuator also gave an opinion about the item's presentation which is useful and reassuring. This valuator seems to understand what the submitter would find helpful.

Are you serious? $80.00 to $120.00 for a 1940's RCA Victor fruitwood console phonograph/radio/TV?

Unfortunately furniture of the type presented for appraisal is not at all popular with buyers. TV consoles are very much no longer in vogue since the introduction of the flat screen TV. This has greatly reduced values.
The auction estimates we have provided will always be lower than private sales values, but can of course be far exceeded during the right sale, on the right day.
The insurance value we have provided is more in keeping with a private sales value.
We can of course understand your frustration when expecting higher values. I am afraid this does not change the accuracy of our appraisal.
