I have been working as a freelancer for the last 10 years, and I can say that upWork is on the best freelancing platforms out there.
Upwork is World's Reliable and secure platform for freelancers and customers to get their jobs done.
We used Upwork for 56 jobs outsourced. In the past, we would refer them to others as the best freelancer resource. A few years ago, the candidates found were always higher quality than other sites.
Now the GREED has set in:
1. Upwork changed their pricing model, most candidates either decline jobs so they don't have to pay for a connection, and the ones that apply to your post are lower quality because they are trying to scam or find a long paying client. They generally have done several jobs for low amounts of money to get a 5 star rating. The top talent recommended ones, most of the time, have had several complaints against them, that Upwork has hidden because of many of the honest, good talent have left. Read other reviews about how many scammers still work there.
2. SCAM- Upwork forces clients to upgrade and pay $30 to have their talent specialist help you find talent to complete your job. If you do not do this, they limit who you can invite unless you do the upgrade. So either You have to buy the upgrade, or you are limited to inviting 3 people which is useless. And all the specialist does is click "invite" to more people. In the past, you could've done that yourself for FREE.
3. BEWARE- the rating system is rigged! You as the client have a very difficult time finding your own company rating and what the con artists review about you. The Upwork developers that scam people can manipulate the rating system to read - no review left. Therefore whatever dispute you had and you try to warn others- it goes unpublished and allows the developer to victimize more business owners.
4. DO NOT trust what you read. Upwork stopped testing skill level of candidates, Changed the vetting process and basically could care less while they make money off you. Anyone can say they have experience. Read others reviews of nightmare broken websites.
DO NOT GET ROBBED! You pay Upwork to assist con artists to take your money.
Best Platform Ever! Is just amazing I got 2 jobs in my first 2 days of work. If you are an entry level free lancer this is the best site for you.
I entered all my personal and financial info into upwork and then got rejected. I sent this:
You should have told me upfront that total rejection was a possibility. I could have been working on getting real work. There was just no indication of this. I would never have gone forward. I like businesses that are upfront and honest about what they are doing to collect your personal information. My motto is honesty and integrity and that is inconsistent with who you are and what you offer.
Then I got to thinking about it and said: You dont even have {my skill] listed as a skill yet you have enough of those folks? Lets see, you dont list the skill but you already have too much. I am so sorry I gave you my information. I want all of my personal info deleted from your system.
Then they sent mail that they didn't have any need for ANY of my skills. So first they have too much of what I have but now they don't need those skills period because no clients are calling for them. They can't even do simple logic or math.
Then I said: Your clients suffer because you limit the possibilities of who they can get. I have unique skills and approaches. You give your clients the first people who signed up with similar skills. They should know this. They should know they might not be getting the best because you have rejected everyone who might be better.
Then I said: Why did I have to provide a bank account before being accepted? Are you going to try and steal my money?
Now I'm waiting for them to take out the verification deposits. I will flag those as scam charges with the bank.
I also wondered if my picture helped them disqualify me since I do look older than 60 and maybe I really am.
The business lacks substance, integrity, honesty and consistency and I would stay away as a client or worker. Contact me directly if you need a great consultant!
Impressive experience on Upwork.com!
I enjoyed working on upwork. Would like to work again in interesting projects soon
I am an experienced academic writer and can work under no supervision and within the limited time we
It has been a great experience in Upwork, great to make extra gigs and connect with customers worldwide.
Recommended to all freelancers. Just their commissions needs to be lowered. Payments hourly are under guarantee of Upwork.
Terrible customer service, absolutely atrocious. I have never in my days delt with a company that charged me for a product and then locked me out of the account without providing the service, saying I must verify my identity, and then after seeing all the information is all that's needed for access. I provided all necessary verification info including license and credit card info and now they are asks for the identity information of other living in my household as well including MY HUSBAND! Have you ever heard of a verification needing to also know other people who live with you? I made an account, bought a service, and in the same day was locked out, yet my bank account is still charged and its 14 days later with the same run around! I said no he will not provide his information as it has nothing to do with MY account, and that I will take a refund and take my services elsewhere. They said they can't give me my money back until THEY 'unsuspend the account," So I said then unsuspend it and give me my refund and then close it. NO RESPONSE. This is crazy, I have filed a dispute with my bank AND am heading over to BBB and will also file with Canadian consumer affairs to do an investigation on this, overarching personal information request!

It is a great platform for learning and working. As a freelancer you are assured to always get work given that you have necessary skills.
Upwork has always been one of the best freelancing sites in the world. It is a rare and great place to be as a freelancer.
I find the services offered by Upwork very helpful, changes peoples lives. As a freelancer, I get to work on jobs and get paid handsomely.
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
