The company has garnered significant criticism for its customer service, with many customers expressing frustration over the lack of responsive support and difficulties in obtaining refunds. Common complaints include billing issues, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of accountability for damages caused by sitters. While some users reported positive experiences with sitters, the overall sentiment reflects a sense of disappointment and mistrust, particularly among sitters who feel exploited by the fee structure. I have been a member of Trusted House Sitters for over six years now and I can thoroughly recommend it. I always travel to England as I have a lot of friends and relatives there but I could go anywhere in the world. I meet lots of new and interesting people and of course their lovely pets.
We have been a member for a year and have met two sitters for multiple stays and every time we have been impressed by the caliber of the sitter and the value of our membership.
I was introduced to Trusted Housesitters 3 years ago by a friend who lives in the UK. We were going on holiday and were looking for someone to care for our 3 cats and our home. We had tried local carers but they expected payment which can add up to quite a bit on top of your holiday expenses. We have had five sitters over the last 3 years and all of them have cared for our pets well, only one incident was a little concerning. I discovered some of my personal belongings had been stolen, shoes of all things. Since that incident we now lock valuables or personal items away in our closet. However I'm sure that was an isolated incident but I do encourage you to have a lock up area all the same. It's always a risk having strangers in your home but I try to meet the sitters and give them a handover in person. I also ask for photos and messages to keep track of my pets and I have excellent neighbors who keep an eye on things. We travel a lot and it's an excellent service for us, in future we hope to become sitters ourselves. Overall I highly recommend this service.
I have had two housesits through the TrustedHousesitters site and my experience with both sits was superb. The fact that this website lists housesitting opportunities throughout the world means I will be able to travel much more easily than before (financially speaking). I often suggest this company to friends interested in traveling. Huge thumbs up to TrustedHousesitters!
TrustedHousesitters did an excellent job and put us in touch with sitters that, although new to house-sitting, were trustworthy, honest, tidy and clean. They looked after our home and our pets and we couldn't be happier with the whole experience.
Great people to work with. They are very responsive to questions and have an organized website. I am looking forward to my next visit.
I have been a pet sitter for Trustedhousesitters for over 2 years and can not find one thing negative to say. The idea that there is a legitimate company in the back ground ready to support the pet sitter and the pet owner is just absolutely comforting. If you love animals and have energy to care for one you to could go see the world, like me! Just finished a sit in Chang Mai Thailand, currently sitting in Portland Oregon on my way to sit on Whidbey Island just out side of Washington state. For me the animals are my community so I get just as much out of it as the animal. Win Win!
The most stressful part of going away is worrying about my dog. His health isn't that great anymore and, let's face it, the thought of putting him in a kennel just doesn't fly. The cost alone is prohibitive.
We just used this organization for the first time and, I can tell you, it won't be the last. From the very first communication it was clear that this is a well run, organized and professional site. Great support. Our first trip away was such a pleasure because we used this service. I highly recommend it!
We have used Trusted House Sitters for four or five times now over the past five years and have had 100
% success with our sitters. I particularly like the fact that I can get to know my potential sitters by having lots of communication with them prior to making my decision on which would be best suited to our situation. I think that is the key to success.
I entirely understand that TrustedHouseSitters can't be responsible for the behaviour of the sitter, but we had an absolute nightmare. Items were missing from our house (nothing valuable, but small towels, tea cloths, etc.), she had used up a huge jar of expensive honey and a lot of chocolate, the house was filthy, and she also ran up a massive electricity bill - apparently she had visitors there using our washing machine / dryer. She seemed fine when we met her, had a professional LinkedIn profile - the only good thing that I can say is that our cat and dog were fine. However, we will never use this site again - we can't risk it.
We're quite please to have come across Trusted House Sitters. The site gives us the opportunity to stay in great places and get to know the local way of life on a different level. The app really works well to help narrow the opportunities to those we want pursue by sending notification when opportunities come up. Highly recommend it.
My husband and I have used this site for a few years now and we have enjoyed all our experiences. The people we have met are all super friendly and kind. The pets we have taken care of have been adorable. The homes we have lived in have been exactly what was portrayed to us. I recommend this site to everyone I know that likes animals and enjoys travelling. We first heard of this site reading International Living Magazine from retirees trying to figure out where they want to retire to and possibly have a second home there. When you stay in someones home and take care of their pets through this site you live in a neighborhood and community. You learn the culture better than staying in a resort or hotel. For example if you are taking care of a dog. They have there routs for walks and their buddies along the way. You chat with other pet owners and learn the best local spot for dinner or the local festival that's in the square that weekend. Then you also have the perks of a kitchen and laundry so it make your adventure more affordable. Pet owners can feel good that their pets are being cared for by people that love animals with out displacing them to kennels and paying big fees. While they are away on their holiday we send pictures of the adventures or nap time their pets are enjoying so they are at easy knowing all is well at home. I think it's a win for both sides.
As both a house sitter and house owner, I have nothing but great things to say about this site. I have had wonderful sits so far. My husband and I just completed our second visit to a home in Western Australia. Our son and his family live in a suburb of Perth, Australia. 4 years ago, I joined the site looking for an afordable way to visit the kids. We had spent a lot of money over the years on both airfare from Canada on top of staying in not so nice rentals paying anywhere from $200.00 to $250.00 per night! Then I discovered Trusted House Sitters and found a beautiful little acreage only 7 kms from the kids house. It turned out that the owners, who we've come to call our friends, go away on vacation every year for 3 weeks in January which is when our grandkids are off school on summer vacation! The home owners have told us that we are welcome to sit for them every year that we are able to. They now check with us every year to give us first dibs on the sit before they post it to the website. There is no way that they would have found us, or us them if not for this site. My husband and I have done a sit in England as well as one only a few hours drive from us. We've had great success with those sits as well. We've also had 2 different couples come to look after our home and dogs as well as a woman who came from Ottawa, Ontario while we were on our last trip to Australia. Every one of them had great reviews which is why we chose them all, and have never been disappointed! As we are both now retired, we plan to use the website more and more to start spending winters somewhere warm, without breaking the bank! Also, their chat lines are incredibly efficient and helpful. Thank you Trusted House Sitters!
It really isn't! I came upon an article in MarketWatch several years ago talking about a couple who had retired early and were pursuing their travel dreams by joining THS. In the past 4+ years, I've had the privilege of caring for the most amazing pets. And, THS has also afforded me the opportunity to stay in locations near to my children. My most recent opportunity, was in Denver, CO, and the day I started, my daughter, who lived 2 blocks away, delivered my third grandbaby. Thanks to THS, I have been on location for the births of all my grandchildren.
The absolute assurance that their pets are going to be well cared for and loved as though they are my own, provides immeasurable comfort, too, for folks who are going away.
THS has opened doors and new opportunities for me that I never knew existed! Thank you!
I wish I had known about this sooner. I pay a lot of money to board my sweet pets and they are always so miserable. I had a great time pet sitting and have 2 more lined up. I cannot wait to upgrade my life using this app for travel and making friends. I see all the complainers on here and it sounds like this website is another disruptor. I have been doing home exchanges since before the invention of the internet, air mailing photos of my apt. Plus a postcard and trading with people all over the world. People are waking up, and realizing we can connect with each other online and have a wonderful experience. I see this as just the beginning. First Airbnb, homexchange.com, and now this. I am so happy to have found this.
Joining Trustedhousitters has been a life-saver for us! We are at a stage in our lives in which we travel a lot. We have pets and a large home, which requires us to have someone here while we're away. Hiring good house/pet sitters was getting quite expensive! Joining Trustedhousitters has saved us A LOT of money! For a nominal annual fee with Trustedhousitters, we have had several extremely positive experiences with house/pet sitters who have capably, kindly cared for our pets and home while we've been away. We've met wonderful people who love pets and who want to see the world. Being able to read the sitters' reviews before confirming a sit is a great way to learn about the sitter/s and to help guide in choosing who would be best for your needs. We have had only positive experiences. We highly recommend Trustedhousesitters!
I didn't want to board my 2 dogs and cat, as that would be stressful for them (and me) and expensive.
I was so happy to find Trusted Housesitters! My pets loved the sitter, and so did I.
I've used this service twice and each time we were most impressed. We now have two large Bernese Mountain dogs and three cats (two large Main Coons one with issues) and we were hesitant at first until I heard first hand from a neighbour how great the arranging and evaluation parts of this service are so I felt assured. Both sits were more than exceptional. The sitters were everything and more than what we expected. Our pets were not only properly cared for but loved.
A wonderful site.
As an experienced house sitter I can now verify this company is walking a fine line legally.@ me...

We were directed to this website by word of mouth. I can't believe what a positive experience we had from the first step to meeting our sitter and coming home from our vacation. We've paid pet sitters in the past, but to my mind, this experience was infinitely better. The fact that you can interview possible sitters and find the best fit for your situation is a real plus. I can see why people apply to be BOTH house and pet sitters and pet sit for others. This is a wonderful site to explore.
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. debbieandwillwilburn@gmail.com Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.
Answer: Hi Caroline, Thank you for your question, forgive my delayed reply. If you haven't already contacted the Membership Services Team (https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb) I would encourage you to do so and they will help you to get this resolved. Kind Regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
