The company has garnered significant criticism for its customer service, with many customers expressing frustration over the lack of responsive support and difficulties in obtaining refunds. Common complaints include billing issues, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of accountability for damages caused by sitters. While some users reported positive experiences with sitters, the overall sentiment reflects a sense of disappointment and mistrust, particularly among sitters who feel exploited by the fee structure. The company appears to prioritize marketing efforts over customer satisfaction, leading to a growing perception of unprofessionalism and dissatisfaction among users.

First the good: I have had really great cat sitters and met very decent loving people from this website and will continue to use this site and pay the fee. I have also had one not so great cat sitter but part of that was my fault for waiting too long to find someone and then having to use someone with no reviews. The trick with this site is to only invite/accept people who have a lot of very positive reviews, and this is totally possible with enough planning AND IF you live in a city/location that a lot of people want to visit. They should have several unique reviewers that are clearly not friends/family.
The not so good: One: the messaging part of the site is super clunky. It takes a while to load and in the email notification they send you to tell you got a message there is no summary of the message, which means you MUST GO to the site to check the message and since it's so clunky it's doesn't work well on a phone. They need to copy couchsurf on this and let you see a preview of the message in the notification email.
Two: You need to be super specific with the petsitters. I have a loft bed for instance and even though it's in my profile when I ask people if they really can climb a latter and fit up there, many of them then realize it's no go for them. The one bad catsitter I had claimed she didn't like loft and that's why she decided not to stay at my place and didn't take good care of my pets and plants.
Highly recommend for house and pet sitting. Great customer service and background checks for sitters.
When our friend told us about Trusted Housesitters we were a bit skeptical. The whole thing sounded too good to be true! But once we looked into it we immediately signed up and have been blessed to find this service! Having someone you can trust watch your fur babies while you're out exploring the world is priceless! The sitter we found on this site watched our babies twice and took very good care of them and became a friend! The fee you pay is nothing compared to the price you pay to leave them at a kennel where they can suffer anxiety attacks because of all the noise and maybe not get the care and attention you think you're paying for. Trusted Housesitters makes finding a good pet sitter a much easier and stress free process! We recommend them to all of our friends!
We were in need of a place to stay for several months when I met a woman who was using Trusted House Sitters as her primary source of housing. She highly recommended them and we were able to find the perfect house sit for us. THS provides a very unique service, matching house/pet sitters with home/pet owners. Everything went well with the web site and their services. I was able to visit with the homeowner prior to the sit so that made us both more comfortable with each other. All in all a good experience.
TrustedHousesitters has been a total game-changer for us. Imagine a process where you meet folks online whom you would be great friends with, love animals, love travel, and who want to stay in your house to care for your pets and your home while you travel, without you paying them. Sounds too good to be true, but it is true. We have met 5 amazing couples who stayed in our home and loved our fur babies while we traveled worldwide for 5 days to 2 months. We met friends, saved money, and received immense peace of mind knowing our pets were well cared for. Even during bomb cyclones, blizzards, power outages, appliance repairs, and even a pandemic. We look forward to utilizing this site for years to come, including to become sitters who travel the world helping other traveling fur parents.
We had a great time over the 5 months we sat Bosco in SE Kelowna. The loghouse area is beautiful, close to ski hills (45min) and trails and the mall/downtown (10min), which inspired us to move to Kelowna! Bosco was a very low maintenance dog to care for. Easy food routine, doesn't need very long walks and likes to be outside guarding the house. We had so much fun playing with him in the snow/fetch everyday in the big backyard. We would definitely recommend sitting Bosco!
We had a german girl who is a digital nomad house sit in Astorville Ontario Canada for 5 weeks. She would not communicate with us once we were away would not answer e mails or phone on whats app. She was completely unreliable our pellet stove in livingroom stopped working and VD would not tell us if it had been repaired. We have used trusted house sitters in the past and had much better housesitters. We did not renew our application
Great platform. Very professional. High quality service and communication. Cannot be better. Robert
I've had the pleasure of sitting for wonderful pets whose owners have been nothing short of wonderful. Trusted Housesitters provides a marvelous way to cut down on travel costs while having the pleasure of a pet to keep you company. I'll definitely continue to use their services and recommend them to all my friends.
I've used Trusted Housesitters probably 8 or 9 times, and each experience has been outstanding.
I've always gotten great responses to my posting for someone to care for our home and cat, and the people
We've chosen have uniformly been terrific. Have recommended the site to several others who have also had
Great experiences. Would definitely recommmend.
We love the choice and variety of listing on TrustedHousesitters. Their support and quick response to our enquiries are very important to us. We have been members for about five years and have enjoyed every one of our sits. We have made friends with all of the pets and owners and continue to stay in touch with them.
My husband and I travel for up to 2 months annually. Planning for the care of our house and cats while away used to be a big worry, and the solutions were sometimes more expensive than the trip itself. For the past two years, I have posted our needs on the Trusted Housesitters website and received up to 15 applications within 48 hours. It's reassuring to know that these volunteers are verified and most provide multiple references. We have selected the same couple both times, and our experience has been wonderful. It's so nice to be able to fully relax on vacation and know that things at home are in good hands.
For $110/year, you can post to find pet sitters as often as you need them. I've only used the service twice, but both my sitters have been fantastic. Both times I listed, I had offers very quickly from folks who wanted to come to Santa Fe, NM. The only reason I didn't leave it 5 stars was I found the system a bit difficult to use and no one ever answered the phone number they had when I tried to get questions answered. But, I did eventually figure how to operate their system. They have an option for you to do both, be a pet sitter and recipient of the services for only $30 more.
An amazing organization. They not only attract pet owners, but also the pet care-givers to the folds. They employ a screening process to elicit the character and qualities of the parties. The result is a match of like-minded for the care of the pets. There is no compensation for the duty; instead, the exchange is the use of a comfortable home, the owner the confidence of trusted care while away.
This site offers lots of experienced and professional sitters. You can easily find qualified and professional sitters with years of experience and reviews. Just make sure that you post your ad weeks ahead since all the good sitters book ahead!
We started using TrustedHouseSitters about 4 years ago and since then have had about 10 or more housesitters in to look after our pets. Every one of them has been superb. Some of them have become long lasting friends and some have come back for repeat house sits.
The dogs are much happier staying home than going to kennels, and we are happier having someone look after the house while we are away as well.
I highly recommend this company.
I have used trusted housesitters website many times in the past 2 years and have been very pleased each time. I have been able to locate 3 wonderful house/pet sitters and gave each 5 star ratings due to their excellent performances. I am able to easily navigate the site and have had no difficulty updating my information as well as communicating with potential sitters. I plan to continue using this program once Covid-19 has dissipated.
We joined Trusted Housesitters (TH) on recommendation from a friend who landed some amazing international housesitting gigs.
We joined this fall and were as booked as we wanted to be and feel like we made friends with the homeowners while getting in some great pet-love as our nomadic lifestyle doesn't lend itself well to pet ownership.
I like that TH homeowners and the housesitters have an equal amount of skin in the game for membership. Membership fees seem to be at high enough but not hideously high price point that encourages more qualified membership on both sides. I've found that most of the housesitting queries I make are answered with encouragement even when we don't end up housesitting because some else excellent got their query in before ours.
As a former pet owner, I appreciate that TH does a great job of creating a welcome packet outline that back in the day I had to create from scratch.
I would like to see major improvements made in the TH interface (it's pretty clumsy in a lot of ways), application uptime and faster followup on customer assistance. The application is so unreliable I offer my contact phone number and email and immediately copy and paste the welcome guide into a Word document because the TH system has gone down at inopportune times, sometimes for hours.
That aside, I have found the quality of resolution (ex. When there were challenges figuring out how to change the date of a house sit, or to give reviews on a housesit that ended prematurely because of coronavirus) was good. Issues took a couple of days to resolve and it's something that a better-designed system wouldn't require customer assistance to resolve.
While I don't expect a whole lot of action until coronavirus has rn its course, I heartily recommend TH despite its flaws to both homeowners and prospective housesitters.
TrustedHousesitters has done everything right from day one. We've very much appreciated each and every sitter we've worked with through the site, and we've never thought twice to suggest the site to our friends.
We have been members of Trusted Housesitters since October 2019 and have used the search & find service twice in that time period. Each house- & pet-sits have been for one month's duration. The website is easy to navigate to set up your house, pets, and self-descriptions. It is also easy to navigate amongst the sitters who express an interest in the post one creates to describe the sitting opportunity. We hope to use the service again in 2020 and also plan to utilize the aspect of it that puts us in the role of house & pet-sitters.
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. debbieandwillwilburn@gmail.com Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.
Answer: Hi Caroline, Thank you for your question, forgive my delayed reply. If you haven't already contacted the Membership Services Team (https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb) I would encourage you to do so and they will help you to get this resolved. Kind Regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
