I got locked out of my account for answering my security question "wrong" although I know I did not... maybe it was case sensitive? Maybe I had a typo.idk but the ONLY way to get it unlocked is to call the phone# provided. They said they were experiencing longer than normal wait times.I can understand that. But what I CAN'T understand is this - when i 1st was entered in the que it said my approximate wait time 1hr30min. Then after being on hold for at least 15 min they said the approximate wait time is now 1hr45min! Then after 28min of being on hold it came back and said approximate wait time 2hr or more! What? How is the time GOING UP?!? I had it on speaker as I was doing chores so I thought I've waited this long i might as well hang in there w lil longer... finally 1hr of wait time it said my approximate wait time is 1hr30min! Yay! Is was going down! Only to have 15min later the wait time was back up to 1hr45min. This is crazy!
Anyone that wants to cash in Series EE bonds and needs the money within 1-3 months should try their hardest to cash them in with a local bank branch or credit union. I know each bank may have a different set of policies for cashing bonds in (customer account required, under $1000, etc), but from my experience and talking to others it's a minimum of 4 weeks from the date of receipt to having the cash deposited in your account. I'm at 10 weeks with no deposit. Customer service is non-responsive and call times are 2 hours plus. Their website and process are stuck in the 1990s. Extremely frustrating.
If I had known this I probably would have tried every bank in town to avoid dealing with the Treasury Department.
I bought bonds for my children when they were young in the early 2000's. I don't check into the site often and when I went to log in recently, I was not given the opportunity to enter my password after entering my account number. Instead, I was locked out and directed to call a telephone service number. Hold time was 71 minutes before they unlocked the account.
I asked what it would take to close out the account and was told that each of my children would have to create a TreasuryDirect account because they were now all over 18 years old and that was the only way they could collect their bonds.
This is not a good investment option and customer service is terrible.
So you know when the interest yield for ibonds was 9%? Well, I sent in an extra 10k by accident. It's been over 9 months and they STILL have not refunded it back to my account. WTF.
I never had such bad experience with such a simple request to unlock my account. The wait time almost an hour and the lady is exceptionally rude. She asked me to answer security questions which I don't remember and that was what caused my account to be locked. I gave her answers but she was yelling something I did not understand and then she hung up
My daughter and I have experienced every bad issue reported below, with no resolution. I have sent a detailed account of my experiences to my congressperson, but have had no response. There must be an institution that oversees this catastrophe, all I can find is the Bureau of Fiscal Service (part of Treasury). Does anyone have suggestions of where to go next? I eventually had the issue resolved by sending documentation to my Senator.
Terrible customer service when trying to get account unlocked. Used the correct account number and system refused to prompt me for a password. Tried a password reset but apparently failed to answer my security questions correctly. When phoning in for customer service wait time is 1 to 2 hours long. Finally called and was told a 30 minute wait time. After being on hold for 10 minutes I was told it was now a 45 minuute wait time. 10 minutes later it was a hour wait time still. Terrible customer service!
My husband and I recently tried to create accounts to purchase I-bonds. My husband went first and succeeded. I went next and succeded in only creating a "locked" account because TD supposedly could not "verify" my information. TD provided me no reason for this, and I have screen shots that prove I entered the correct information. TD also advised me it would not address this matter by phone or email - by any means until I submitted and it reviews form FS 5444, which I have submitted but which TD advises it might not review for several months. Meanwhile, the rate of interest earned on an I-bond has already dropped significantly.
It cant get any worse for a UI for a website. Freezes, crashes, typical. Gov type site. Good thing we are forced to pay taxes to have service like this.
I tried to open an account and the site kept crashing everytime I went to step 3. Whenever I got to step 3, they never emailed me the code to buy bonds. When I tried to login the website doesn't load. I tried to start over the account application and they said I already have an account assigned to my ID but I have now way of logging and you can't get any help. Lhone calls are perpetual hold and emIl doesn't work. Who do hou contact... unknown... there is no help... the website sucks wind! I can't even upload my images to proov I applied for an account.

Day one, I spent 3 hours, 20 minutes on hold to inquire about an email the website said I would receive in order to complete opening an account. The agent who finally answered my call gave me the account number, and told me their email wasn't working. I asked if there would be anything else needed, and received a "no". After disconnecting the call, I found I needed a one-time password, which would have been on the email I didn't receive. So I'm into another 2 hour plus call hold to get the password! In looking at past reviews, I see that the email situation is long standing. It should be a priority fix. Others have commented on their negative experience, but there is no indication that any remediation is in process.
So, my wife sent me a link about treasurydirect.gov because of the attractive 9.62% i-bonds that one can purchase as investment. I took a look at the site and the first thing that came out to me is that it looks like a scam site but indepedent articles online such as money.com has articles talking about the bonds with links to the $#*!ty site.
I checked to see if we can buy the bonds at a bank but apparently one cannot do so and must buy direct. My wife wanted to put in the max per SSN and I was very hesitant especially with all the one stars. I carefully added my info and lo and behold, on the last screen of creating my account, after hitting that submit button, "Site cannot be reached"! What kind of $#*!ty server is hosting the supposedly government website?
It's already been over 20 mins and I still can barely get the site to respond on its main page. Each time I try to login, it would state: "Site cannot be reached"... WTF!
It better not have my personal info saved!
I can't help but have to write this. The website is absolute garbage. It took me a week to open an account. It repeatedly giving me error messages about failing on verfication even though the information I provided was 100% accurate. I finally was able to reach the page to create my password after trying for several times a day for one whole week. Then it took several hours for me to sit infront of my computer hitting the refresh button waiting for my temporary password to show up in my mailbox. After I received my temp password, I was able to login for the first time but when I clicked on a link in my account page, I got locked out for no reason and not able to log back in again. Why is this kind of crap website still exist in 2022 and its maintained by the US government.
They have stolen 5000 of my hard earned dollars. They claim that I answered my 3 questions incorrectly. Now, I am locked out of my account with no help at all from them. Obviously, I've been ripped off.
Shouldn't the feds be investigating this outfit?
Ps I needed to select one star to be able to submit this. As far as I am concerned, they deserve zero stars and some lawsuits.
Most difficult to reach them... extra interest is not worth the hassle - they do not respond to phone or email.
People have so many negative review because it is the worth Govt site I can think of.
My rating is negative -10
3 hrs +40 mins and counting. For account getting locked. Nobody is picking up the call
God help me
If I could give a minus number for a rating it would still be too high a number for Treasury Direct. 2 1/2 hour phone holds at start of busines?! Not accepting new emails?! Up to a thirteen week response time for a regular mail query?! A total embarrassment!
I was on site making a purchase when I got kicked out. I'm locked out and there's no access to live help or a reset link on the site. They're not answering the help line because they're backed up until at least the end of business today.
I sent email and got an email response. Unfortunately the two links they sent are both dead! Back to the phone and the 4 hour wait.
Typical government operation. I have been on hold for two hours now. Not sure when I will be answered. Need to update the software so that there is a way to unlock account without speaking to government Oxygen Thieves.
