Poor Service and Lack of Caring
August 23, 2022

Been shopping at Trader Joes since 1969! When they opened the White Oak Store in the Valley my mom and I were happy as we didn't have to go to Pasadena. THAT is how long I have been a customer. Why an I telling you this well because TJ's has deteriorated over the years. I live in Indio California and I shop at the La Quinta Store which is about 6 miles from me. Over the last two months they have forgotten to put things I purchased in my bag! This has happened 6 times to be exact since June! Also forgot my paper goods TWICE that were set on an adjacent register & not put in my basket. It is unfortunate that I have to drive all the way back for my items! OR item! I paid for it I want it period. Called the store and the male manager there says well I will tell my team when we huddle to do a better job! Lol instead of addressing the fact I didn't get my item! When I addressed it and told him I don't care what you do with your team what about my item I am told oh well you can get it next time you come in! Really? Like I have unlimited amounts of money to waste on gas to come and RETRIEVE what I already paid for! REALLY? Called corporate and they were so rude. Customer service hung up on me and the people answering the main phones could care less. I spend anywhere from $60 to $160 dollars a week in Trader Joes La Quinta location. This is how you are going to treat me! Okay tell you what I will shop where they are nice to me and diligent. I have had enough. FYI when I figure out the round trip for 6 times it comes out to 72 miles! Trader Joes owes me for gas... period!
At $6.00 or more a gallon I am tired of eating it. Shame on this company.

Just yesterday, went in to get my usual oranges, grapefruits, jumbo eggs, & fresh OJ. Didn't have 'em. Out of stock. 'We only get one box of oranges at 4 a.m., and it's 2 p.m., so they're gone. WHAT? I've been to this store a zillion time (Manhattan, E. 14th St. By Stuyvesant Town), and have seen LOADS of oranges & grapefruits - at 5 in the afternoon - on a Saturday. Thunderstruck - that they were out of them. ALL of them. They only had bags of clementines, which the stock woman cheerfully (if cluelessly) directed me to. Same for - the fresh O.J. Just. Not. There. And the eggs, and so on & so forth. What. A. Pain.

This happens - A LOT - at Trader Joe's. You go in thinking you'll be all set for the week, only to discover that a couple of items ARE MISSING. 'Out of stock'. Even worse is when you're told the item is 'Out of season', & 'won't return for a couple of months' - if ever.

Worse yet, one day I tried their 3-cheese chips they were handing out as samples (really SMALL samples btw...). Liked them a lot, so I bought a bag. Went in 2 weeks later to get another bag, but - you guessed it: "OUT FOR THE SEASON". REALLY? You dangle these things out there, get a customer hooked - & then you're OUT OF STOCK a few weeks later? Wow. Just... Wow.

Oh - and I like the way they raised their prices during Covid & the 'supply chain' fiasco, & then never returned to normal prices afterward. One of my favorite snacks - the Trader Joe's Bamba Peanut Snack - USED to be 99 cents a bag. Then it went up, & up, & up. Now it's at $1.79. I thought it'd go back down because Trader Joe's has a good 'ethic' about it... No happiness there. Still a whopping $1.79 years after Covid. Just don't get 'em anymore. I refuse to get raked over the coals...

Thanks Joe.

I googled this product hoping to find reviews that might concur with my experience. Like several, the Spatchcocked Lemon Rosemary Chicken emitted a horrible stench upon opening the packaging. I couldn't decide if it's the lemon Rosemary marinade, but it just didn't make sense. The freeze by date is 4 days away so I wouldn't think it's spoiled yet, but apparently somethings not right here! I opened both main house doors and lit a couple of candles to clear the air! I also called the location were purchased and provided feedback similar to this review. The store is going to send a quality report to the supplier. The store is also happy to reimburse me upon my next visit. In any event, I baked the chicken and the odor did subside quite a bit,but I was afraid to serve this chicken to my family, given the putrid odor. I felt obligated to share my experience with consumers, especially since previous reviews indicate the same condition of troublesome odor despite future use by or freeze due date. Please purchase an alternative item and perhaps nothing fresh and marinating in a sealed package. This will be my practice moving forward.

Great store
February 23, 2021

I am addicted to TJ's variety of crackers, cheeses and wines. I've tried several spices as well and find they generally have better flavor and it lasts longer than other brands I've bought. Recently I bought "Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend" with sea salt, garlic and onion. I found it to be too salty for my taste. I don't normally put salt on my bagels and maybe that's why this tastes too salty.

This is my favorite food store, but I have to drive to another city to shop at it so I only go there about once a month. My only complaints are their organic celery always looks old, so I buy it at Harris Teeter instead and they do not offer case discounts on wine (but then they have GREAT everyday wine pricing instead). Wine tasting days are informative. The staff are friendly, (they really seem to enjoy working there), and will gladly go to the store room to search for additional quantity of a product. I think they are consumer oriented and by virtue of the products they sell, including their own brands, are ecologically responsible.

I love this store
March 23, 2014

I love this store. It offers high-quality healthy foods and other groceries for reasonable prices.

I have only ever had one bad experience with a grumpy cashier but the good far outweighs the bad. The only problem is that the closest Trader Joe's is about 25-30 minutes away. But is well worth it.

The store is good, however, I've read about the fruit recall recently and it made me very suspicious about the sources it uses... The same fruits were sold in TJ and Walmart! Common! If products in Walmart are the same as in TJ, then why do we pay extra money in TJ? I hope TJ will differentiate itself from Walmart-type of stores and do test the sources of all items they about to sell before they sell it. I hope they would sell less Chinese-made products... It is our health and we are paying extra premium for it, by going to this store. If they continue doing so, then I would stop visiting this store and move to another one...

This is one unique store! I was recently in Florida for business and there was one near my hotel. I was in there almost everyday for a week, I loved it. Tons of pre-made foods such as sushi and salads. I had no idea there was one even in my area at home, it was my first stop when I got back into town.

Love your food
December 16, 2019

Shopped in Scarsdale since you opened... in south Florida now and the nearest traders is almost an hour away. I strongly suggest you find a location in Hallandale or Aventura to accommodate the shoppers who go infrequently, if at all because of the distance or get 1 or 2 items when friends go. Thanx

Trader Joe's is the bestest supermarket in the world - Walking into a Trader Joe's just makes me happy. I have never ever felt that way in a Safeway. Why you ask? Well, firstly, everyone who works at and shops at my local Trader Joe's is friendly. People are helpful, polite and they smile at you. That goes a long way. But most importantly the food is good and I feel like I'm getting a good value (unlike at WholeFoods). And in particular I love Trader Joe's because I can't eat Gluten, and they have LOTS of gluten-free foods on their website! Smile

Love it here
March 26, 2022

I absolutely adore Trader Joe's and started shopping here frequently a few months ago. It is often busy and crowded but products are worth the time. My daughters love going with me because they have a mascot named Arnold the Avocado. Employees place him in different places throughout the store daily for the kids to find and when they do they get a prize. The cashiers always are very attentive of my girls and give them stickers at check out. They have the best selection of plants and flowers. The flowers last forever too. They have nice 99 cent cards for every occasion. I also like to browse the seasonal aisle in the back of the store and can find items to add to the plants and cards that make for a great gift. They have all sorts of specialty items and regular foods. There is a meat department, produce, dairy, baked goods, frozen foods and shelf stable items. I also purchase their facial cleansers, body wash, lotion and vitamins. My daughters have certain snacks that we purchase here weekly. Pricing is good and I have found all items to be high quality. You can not ask for a better team of employees as all I have encountered go above and beyond to be approachable, friendly and knowledgeable.

I love shopping there because I come in with a smile and leave with a bigger one the staff is so friendly and always helpful. When you shop here your not just getting healthy food for your life you make friends with the workers because they enjoy their work. And it feels wonderful to have people show pride in what they do that's been lost in so many places because there's not many places that make their workers happy so the customers suffer just as much sometimes Trader Joe's has got it right. It may sound silly but when I've had a bad day and then I shop there I feel like I've been given a shot of happiness juice. The care and the personal dedication by everyone there makes everyone who shops there feel like friends and family. I've always got great food, health and cleaning products I have no complaints at all and I love that they make living a healthy life more affordable. And it's so sweet that they give you free flowers on your birthday or a special occasion I don't know of any other store that dose that. Trader Joe's you've won my heart I'll always come back because you've showed your best and more to me and all those who shop there. I feel the name should be Helpful Lovable Joe's I could never trade you Trader Joe's there is no better.

Clear pepper grinder tops are far better than the black ones: better grind size, spices seem to go farther

Date of experience: October 28, 2023

Overview

Trader Joe's enjoys a strong reputation for its unique product offerings, affordability, and friendly staff, which many customers appreciate. The emphasis on organic and gourmet items enhances its appeal, particularly among health-conscious shoppers. However, concerns have emerged regarding inconsistent customer service experiences, particularly in specific locations, and issues with product quality, such as spoiled items. Additionally, some customers have reported negative interactions with staff related to service animals and returns. Overall, while Trader Joe's is favored for its selection and atmosphere, addressing service inconsistencies and product quality could further enhance customer satisfaction.
