Horrible customer service. (Please read updated info at bottom) I do a lot of online shopping and I will not buy from them again. I cannot get any response from them through their website or by phone. (I can't sit on hold for an hour) All I needed was a return authorization number and the website kept telling me to contact customer service... Ha... Like that is even possible! Luckily, the item I want to return is only $25 and it is not damaged (just a size issue) so I think I will sell it on craigslist. After reading some of the horror stories of other customer returns, I don't even want to try to return it. FYI - Amazon.com has amazing customer service. **Update** 2/11/15 - I am changing my rating because Thinkgeek finally contacted me to do a refund. They apologized for their poor customer service over the holidays due to staffing and weather issues. I mailed the item back and got a full refund even though it was well past the refund date. I got very good response from customer service during this process. I will consider shopping with them again.
Don't ever order anything from Thinkgeek! I have never had such a terrible experience with an online company ever! I shop online almost ever day! I waited over an hour to talk to someone TWICE and hung up before i even spoke to anyone! I finally get some one on their chat after waiting 45 minutes. I ordered an item, they said it was sent to my home. I contacted them saying that i did not receive it. Then they send an apology email saying that there was a problem with their distributer but that they can now send me my item. But then send you the wrong item! What kind of company is this! Ugh! Negative stars if possible!
I guess this is what you get when you don't look at reviews before ordering. Everything I ordered was different in some way or another from the description on there website. The 5 items I did order were made in China junk. This isent even the most angering part of my experience. I shipped the order to Canada and after paying the fees that think geek charges for shipping to Canada when I got the package I had to pay more fee becuse think geek dident pay the shipper. Everything about my experience left me in so much anger. I would never wish this on any consumer.
On 12/10 I received an email that my order had shipped. This was the gift I bought for the hardest (by far) person on my gift list. He's impossible to buy for and I was thrilled that I found something I knew he would like.
On 12/20 I received an email stating that the item was out of stock and my order was cancelled. Yes, 5 whole days before Christmas and 10 days after the item supposedly shipped. This is absolutely horrible customer service and I will never even think about buying from ThinkGeek again. Shame, shame, shame.
I ordered a small gift on December 3rd. Three weeks later I email them for a shipping update. Three days go by, and I never receive a response back. I call them, and had to wait on the phone for over 2 and a half hours. The rep tells me that it was never given to UPS. He is going to replace it, but at first wanted to only send it standard shipping. This is a Christmas gift, and eventually he agrees to expedited shipping. Two days go by and it still has not reached UPS. I use the online chat and waited over an hour. After waiting the second time, the rep could not care less and basically tells me that it will get here when it gets here. Nothing was done to assure me that it was given to UPS this time. She completely blew me off. This was the worst shopping experience and I will not order with them again. Do yourself a favor and use Amazon instead.
I am currently ON HOLD with customer service, I have been for 15 minutes. I ordered a backpack on Tuesday Dec 16, and paid $25 for overnight delivery via UPS. It's for a birthday today, FRIDAY the 19th, and it's NOT HERE. The tracking info shows it was never given to UPS. They lied and said UPS lost it. I asked for them to ship it ASAP and get it here tomorrow. No can do, they said it will take two (2) days to process the order! Why did I PAY $25.00 for overnight shipping then? I asked to speak to a manager, and am still STILL waiting, stay FAR, FAR away from this company!
They sent me the wrong package 2 hour wait snobby reps
I will never do business with Think Geek again. Just had the worst customer service experience in my life. I'm a long time customer and extremely disappointed! Placed order on Nov. 28th have received nothing. Called last week and was told package was in transit. Called back today, spent 2hrs on hold, then find out that my order was never shipped and the items I ordered are out of stock. To top it off their customer service agent was totally clueless. Was told i could not be reimbursed because I paid via PayPal. I've spent a lot of money with them in the past and will be taking future business elsewhere.
Worst online customer service of my life. You cannot contact this company without wasting 3 hours of your life. They do not return emails and online chat had a wait of 28 hours(is that real). Shipping is a nightmare and package is lost but I cannot get company ot respond. You would not last one week as a Ebay seller. My credit card company gave me a refund in less than 5 mins.
I almost never write reviews but this was by far the worst customer experience I have ever dealt with.
When I checked out on the site, I realized the gift information had been erased for my purchase (which was to be a holiday present). I immediately got on the phone and internet live chat as I was unable to cancel the order because it said I never actually made the order (although I had the confirmation number in my inbox).
After being disconnected via phone 3 times and waiting for someone online for well over an hour and a half, the "service monkey" said he could not go in the back end and add another gift message because "I do not think this is a service we offer :(" I proceeded to tell him exactly where on the check out screen the gift message is an option and he said he still didn't think they allowed gift messages. Regardless, he said he would put in a request to cancel my order and I would hear back within 24 hours. He said he didn't know if it could get cancelled, however, because too much time had lapsed (even though I phoned/got online IMMEDIATELY and was put on hold for two hours).
Next thing I know, I get a message my order had shipped.
I will never order from them again.
I could not be more frustrated.
If any of you have even thought of going through ThinkGeek - just... just don't.
My first time with them. I order stuff for Christmas mid November trying to plan ahead. My order got to me on the 20th. One item, the Aperture Science Portal Gun, was shipped damaged. So I call (and let me tell you, any time you call these guys, it's like they have 1 or 2 people on staff because they'll tell you you're caller 10 and you'll wait 2 hours). I finally get someone and I ship it back. Sadly, they refuse to reserve the item for me ("it wont go out of stock, we have plenty"). I have little choice here. It gets to them and... nothing. For a week I get no calls or emails confirming they received it or are sending my item back to me. So, of course I call. I'm told that they don't have it. UPS has a signature that they dropped it off to Tom at their front desk >> and they insist they don't have my return. I keep calling. Finally, someone says that 'my return expired and that's the issu--- no actually it's that it is out of stock' >> you don't say. At this point, I just never want to deal with ThinkGeek again and want my money back, but my headache isn't over. They try to first refund me $50 for my order (it's listed as 119$ but I had a total of $70 on my ENTIRE ORDER, so of course all those discounts are on this one item right? What a joke!). I explain how seriously frustrated I am and they tried to wow me with an offer of 15... no, 20$ off a ThinkGeek store item instead. I refuse and she gives me 'more than my order is actually worth' - $82 back. How generous, expect I actually paid 95$ on the item. After having to explain the most obvious fact that the total discount is on the total order and not my single item and that I actually should be getting 95$ for my item - she checks and confirms... giving me just the 95$ for the hassle. So first my item is damage, then it disappears in their hands, then they try to rip me off on getting my refund? What... a... joke...
That's just the item I had an issue with too. The other items were about as expected - pretty cheap in quality for what I was paying, but I expected that to be completely honest.
Called customer service 1st time, 18 min. To get to caller 1. Waited 48 min. As customer 1 then had to take care of business. Called 2nd time, started at #14,1hr. 12 min later #8. If you have nothing better to do than listen to phone music and be ignored. This is your site.
This site has the best collection of geeky items to give as gifts (or to splurge on yourself). The prices are fairly comparable to the items when I find them at comic or game store. However, their shipping is a little more expensive than I would like and slow to boot. But where else can I buy gifts for the geeks in my life that leaves them actually excited?
Ordered three separate orders, we are Military and posted over seas so we had the orders shipped to the base. The base will not accept COD's, which has never been a problem with any other shipments because the company has used the phone number or e-mail address to contact us and have us pay UPS.
Well not thinkgeek they had all packages returned to them. Once they receive the packages I will be refunded my money minus the cost of shipping to me, the cost of shipping it back to them and possibly any customs fees incurred.
What is the point of providing contact information if the company cannot be bothered to contact you and give you the opportunity to solve the problem.
Thank you for ruining our Christmas those were the only presents that I had ordered for my husband and now he has nothing under the tree.
Ordered an item on Dec 4th, went through a rollercoaster of fail from the service perspective. Ended up getting the order cancelled, which in retrospective, is a good thing.
Heed the warnings of all the disgruntled customers on the review sites and their FB page. This site is deceitful and in my opinion a scam! I sent them this letter.
Horrrrrrible customer service. This was my first time ordering with you guys and I will never do it again. Placed an order, went to checkout and it gave me an error msg about the server. So I started over and it gave me the same msg. Called TG and was assured nothing was billed. Checked my acct and I was charged twice. Called to cxl right away and the lady gave me a confirmation # for the refund. 4 days later, I get emails saying two identical orders are being shipped. Called AGAIN... Was told that the confirmation I had was useless. The order was never cancelled and now I've got to wait for these items to be shipped and then ship them back and THEN they'll start processing a refund. Wtf?! She said that when I called to cancel that the items were already being prepped in the warehouse. Ummm, 10 mins after I placed the order? Such a racket. I don't trust this site at all... I'm just pissed that they are now holding my money hostage indefinitely and I can't get a straight, honest response.
Customer Service is a joke. Doesn't stand by their website policies, lies in chat and tries to cover up my lost package rather than locate and reship it. I will never order from here again
Think geek has the WORST service ever.
I live in Canada and agreed to pay duty and taxes but then DHL showed up charging me 44% on top of the $22 I paid to ship it here. When I called DHL no one speaks understandable English - they all refused to help me or correct the problem.
BUYER BEWARE - find another reputable online retailer.
This company just plain stinks. They claim 24/7 customer service, then never answer the phones, never email you back. This has been a horrible experience by simply wanting to cancel and order, which apparently they don't do either but I am glad I am doing so I can say goodbye to this cruddy company for good. Never been so disappointed in online service. Ever.
Canadians BEWARE!
My purchase of goods valued at $50US ended up costing over $110CDN. They charged $28.35US to ship a parcel weighing 4.1 lbs on a non-priority basis. Then their only carrier option DHL charged an additional $31.61CDN in administrative costs and duties. They offered a $5 gift certificate by way of recompense which, needless to say, is a joke.
