I tried to make a purchase with ThinkGeek a while ago, but my order was automatically cancelled twice and since their customer service couldn't guarantee that future purchases wouldn't go through the same process I asked them to delete my account. That should have been the end of it, but on 5/23 I received an e-mail from a company called Bizrate (said to be a scam company by many SiteJabber reviewers) and then another one on 5/28 despite my telling them that the order they were contacting me about was cancelled and would never be fulfilled. ThinkGeek shouldn't have given out my order information in the first place, but it is unconscionable that they send out information on orders that either have been, or still could be, cancelled.
I would absolutely recommend avoiding ThinkGeek both because of their bad decisions (a poorly coded automated system and their unwillingness and/or inability to do the basic background checking on their affiliate companies) as well as for their actual partnership with Bizrate.
Going crazy from the things from this website. I'm collecting almost all of what can be possibly found with star wars. My fan preferences are satisfied!
Love it so many cool gadgets and gizmos that are must haves for any nerd, decorations that'll ensure nostalgia I recently got a Han solo carpet where he's frozen in carbonite so freaking sweet
I called think geek store Feb 5, and wanted to known when a funko pop was coming out. The employee did not know the information, so he told me to call the 20th. The funko pop was released on Feb 9th. I called and asked if they can hold it and said yes. When I got to the store there was nothing for me. I will give think geek 0stars out of 10. I hope thinkgeek never has exclusive funko pops again.
Failure to deliever on time, and when they fail to do this they come out with excuses such as "reorganising warehouse" or "relocating stock". Extremly poor customer service, would not recommend in any circumstances.
I usually buy here, and sometimes I just serf the site to get some inspiration! Great job, guys! If you have a friend who goes banana about devices, new technologies, etc, this is the place for you!
"I wish I could give less than one star. I ordered over 55 dollars worth of christmas presents on this website and only received 2 of my orders. After a month of waiting the other 4 items were put on hold then never shipped. They failed to notify me and still charged me. I had to sit on the phone for 30minutes and all they could do is refund me after I asked them several times to. They would not give me the product for the price it was on sale. This is a horrible company and I will never buy from them again. THINK SMART and shop somewhere else. Just a heads up the four items I ordered were the 4 pack deal with the Beer can steins."
I made two orders of $190+ - both of them got cancelled but my money had still been taken out. Tried to talk to a customer rep over both e-mail and Twitter - zero response. Tried their live chat - first rep just disconnected me. Second one completely ignored any questions I'd asked and gave me irrelevant answers. Needless to say - never going back to this website ever. AVOID!
Tried to order a $19.99 item and pay via paypal. Paypal goes through order does not complete.
I wait till the next morning and check, still nothing. I go back to their site and the item is still in my cart. So I figure, lets see if I can't fix this the other will clear, so I run it though again, this time paying with a debit card. Still doesn't work, but I do get billed!
Write them and explain the issue. The reply a day later that ther is problem with my first name. For the record I don't have one...
Call them up and talk for thirty six minutes. During which time there amazing customer service rep informs me that his manager says "What kind of person doesn't have a first name?" Okay so now I'm irate and speak with the manager who clears the order and says place it again and everything will be fine. I tell me, no you place the order while I sit here on the phone and you confirm that it went through.
He does, it doesn't, and in the process he tries again four times! So in total I have 6 charges to my account for an order that their website won't complete. He tells me I will have my money back in 24 hours.
Two days later I call and ask, so where is my money? I'm told oh no it takes 3-5 days to clear. Meanwhile I am out $148 until this clears which hampers my ability to purchase anything else over the thanksgiving weekend.
Thanks so much ThinkGeek you will never see my business again. Tried to order a $19.99 item and pay via paypal. Paypal goes through order does not complete.

Trying to work with these people AFTER you order is an exercise in futility. Try to find one (JUST ONE) person on their service site who will say, "Yes, that's my area of expertise". They playfully refer to their employees as 'Monkeys'. Trust me - they're not kidding.
I ordered a light blue Star Trek hoodie as a gift. When I received it, it was teal, almost green, not light blue as pictured and described on their website (hence the fraud). I reached out to exchange for a yellow one. They said because it is not defective, I am responsible for return shipping, although they will send the new color with free shipping... that is not free shipping. I am paying for shipping twice for an item that was improperly described on their website.
I decided not to give THEM any of my money and am just returning the hoodie. I have now wasted double shipping (about $15) and have no merchandise. Hopefully they do refund my money for the purchase as they insist they will (after about 2 weeks of them receiving the merchandise back).
I usually get my boyfriend's gifts from this website. He always really likes them so I'm happy about it.It's a good variety of geeky things. The customer service was okay when we needed to exchange a shirt because I got the wrong size. Didn't take too long to get in contact with someone and work out the issue.
I've been a customer of ThinkGeek for a LONG time, and regularly go back to them for Christmas gifts for those hard-to-buy-for (usually male) people. Where else could I buy a cake tin in the shape of a dragon sleeping on a clutch of eggs? Or a Christmas tree decoration shaped like a Dalek? Their Tshirts are great quality, the gadgets are also quite nifty & of a reasonable quality (guided by price e.g. if they sell 2 items: one at $20 and the other at $5, logically the $20 item will be of better quality).
The only warning is that as they are in USA, and I'm in Australia, I have to plan my shop weeks in advance to ensure that product availability and postal services result in on-time delivery. I also stock up my order and get it all in one go to save on postage.
I used to be a very loyal customer to ThinkGeek.
Then I bought the item called the "Spellbook Billfold" which ended up being a purse.
A billfold is a type of wallet.
The definition of billfold is "A folding pocket-sized case for carrying paper money, small personal documents, and sometimes change."
So, I tried to return the item, and they made me pay shipping to ship the item back, calling it "buyer's remorse" because there was nothing wrong with the item.
Well, ThinkGeek, I hope the extra $6 shipping cost is worth my loyalty to you as a customer, because you just lost the latter.
Thinkgeek is full of gadgetry, t-shirts, hoodies, and other garbage which nobody wants. Cheap Chinese-origin USB hubs and related nonsense.
I have ordered from them many times over the years and have received pretty much what I expected. The shipping takes standard amount of time since it has to cross the Canadian border to get to me. However I have gotten all gift related items before the holidays/birthdays, which is great. The border fees are awful, but not Thinkgeeks fault. It has been worth the extra money for me since the Canadian selection for specialty items can be lacking online. Always check Amazon if they have the same item cheaper, since they can be extensive when the item is not on sale... but you do get free items with the points system they have at Thinkgeek, which is a fun incentive.
I have not had to return any items yet, so I cannot comment on their return policies. However they have always been friendly otherwise.
I placed an order around Christmas with ThinkGeek. I understood it might take longer to ship, especially where I am (Canada). A month later, I contacted them asking for an update as I haven't received my order. Customer service informed me that the order had "made its way back" to its warehouse and they would refund me. When I noticed I only received half the money back, I contacted them again, but they told me that they don't refund shipping in cases where the shipping error is on the customer's side. However my address was perfectly correct, and my buzzer goes straight to my phone, so there's no way I would have missed a shipment. Also the tracking info said the package had never left the state of Ohio. They came up with some excuse of their shipper not updating the info properly, but that it's still somehow my fault.
This is essentially theft. The package clearly never made it to my house, yet they're claiming it's my fault I never received it. How is this an acceptable business practice? ThinkGeek is keen on failing to make an effort to ship their orders and pocketing any money they make off shipping. This is unacceptable. NEVER shop with ThinkGeek.
Update: A couple weeks after I posted this review, the issue was escalated and a supervisor gave me my money back. It took way too many tries with customer service and I wouldn't be shocked if it was after seeing this (and other) negative reviews, so this stays up, but should be noted that it ended okay.
Few hours after ordering a product (that was written in their website) that supposed to be delivered within 6 days, I wanted to be sure I will get my product in time since I am leaving and buying this gift for a friend. Calling customer support I find out that the company will process ur order an additional few days and I won't be able to get my product in time. I tried to ask them if I can pay extra to make my shipping faster, to my frustration the company will not do anything once the order is in processing despite its blatantly not being shipped yet. They will not cancel the order too. The window time to cancel an order is just 30 mins the support told me. Beware this company will not help you and offer the worse customer support.
I used this website to purchase gifts for my techies. Great selections. But, returning is a huge pain. Couldn't get through to customer service by phone because of 20+ mins hold time. Tried online chat. It took 40 minutes! Then they sent me a link with the return number and provided instructions to have item shipped back. After that was done, I asked if they would reimburse for the shipping and their comment was "we don't pay for buyer's remorse". In other words, no free returns. It's been a very frustrating experience. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WEBSITE.
I ordered 6 gifts in early November to be delivered for Christmas. I had them shipped out of state to my parent in laws where we would be spending Christmas. Low and behold, the one thing (out of checked baggage and multiple online purchases) that didn't arrive was my 6 items from ThinkGeek (which I stupidly relied on for an individuals whole gift).
So I called to find out why I was never notified at the beginning of December that my gifts were not delivered (they were sent BACK to ThinkGeek. Again, please remember that 20 other packages had absolutely no problem reaching this destination). Now they were out of 4 of the 6 gifts, but gave me a refund (gee thanks, that helps a TON on Christmas Eve eve in the middle of nowhere), a small store certificate (which wont even cover shipping of anything on there site) and a "replacement" for the two items in stock still. I explicitly repeat at least 3 times that the order now needs to be shipped to the billing address and NOT the original shipping address as we are not residents of that state. Representative Garrett agrees and says they are going to my state of residence. Disappointing, but workable.
Then comes my first full day back home on December 29th. I receive delivery confirmation that my ThinkGeek gifts were delivered to Ohio. Where we don't live and then I would be responsible for shipping them to myself AGAIN (a service I have already paid for). I call to have them solve it and Stephanie was only willing to issue me a refund after 90 minutes on hold listening to the same obnoxious music over and over and over again. So now I am out of gifts and have no recourse. I am not generally a reviewer but I now hate this service so much I have decided to let everyone else know not to order from them. If they can't figure out customer service or delivery maybe they deserve to be taken over by services like Amazon that actually TRY to make their shipments work.
BOO on ThinkGeek and BOO on their customer service (lack there of). Thanks for ruining our materialistic part of Christmas. Twice.
