I had pretty low expectations (just with online helpdesks in general), but TheKnot has EXCELLENT customer service. Everytime I had a question, someone responded via email within 20 minutes with a detailed explanation on how to do whatever I was asking. If you live in Canada, and can't do a cash registry, then they let you make a hyperlink to an alternative site! They're super helpful and everything I asked, they had a solution for. I don't usually write reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised with The Knot.

I almost never leave bad reviews/leave reviews in general but I felt the need because if this review can save one other small business friend from wasting hundreds or thousands then it's worth it. It is honestly so messed up that this huge business takes advantage of small businesses the way they do. I have a small local home bakery and am trying to advertise towards the wedding industry more so turned to the knot/wedding wire. I was basically convinced into their lowest rate ($250 a month) by someone who worked for them who told me she had her own small business and advertised with them and it was the "best decision she's ever made." I think looking back she was lying to my face - which is so heartbreaking considering I took a huge leap of faith in saying yes - and the knot ended up taking over $3,000 from me and in return i got NO customers (lots of leads that went nowhere - which were probably fake). They also make you pay for 12 months minimum (because if you book a wedding and your spot on the website gets taken down then the client can't contact you -which doesn't even make sense because you could give them your contact info at any time) which is how you get stuck! Please please please if you are a small business don't get tricked like I did. It's a legit website but they list so many businesses on here that there's almost no chance you will get business, and will waste tons of money and time trying. Learn from my mistake- its in your best interest to stay away!

Great resource for their planning checklist and website builder, HOWEVER, I would NEVER recommend using knot to order your Save the Dates, Invitations, etc. Right before you press "Submit my order", there is a "have a designer contact me" box and if you do not check this box, they claim to not touch your design and print it as is. This stupid little checkbox is fake news - they moved my text without approval. Fast forward - I got contacted by a designer, we went back and fourth, they claimed that I was the confused one (rude) and that what they have is "practically identical" to what I was asking for (rude and also untrue). Is it too much to ask to just print what I stinkin ordered? If you care what your paper orders look like, go somewhere else.

You cannot - I replete CANNOT trust the review on The Knot website. I recently reviewed my wedding photographer on their site. Shortly thereafter my review was disputed by the photographer and the review was taken down. It took about three weeks to get it back up after an extremely vigorous verification process. While I appreciate that they want review to be authentic, what I've learned from this experience is that you cannot trust the ratio of good to negative review on their site considering how easy it was for my "negative" review to be taken down and how difficult it was to get it put back up. I imagine whenever a vendor doesn't like a review (say, anything under 4 stars) they likely dispute it and cross their fingers that the reviewer is too lazy to go though the never ending process to ensure the reviews authenticity.

Don't Count on the not to accurately reflect your registries. It's cute for introducing your wedding party and giving your story. But add your own registry card to your invitations. This site kept dropping major department stores from the registry

Tip for consumers:
Add your registry on a separate slip to put in the invitations, The Knot has reversed my link twice to PB and WS two of my major registry’s. Super frustrating

I would love to look at this with you a bit more. PB and WS are one company and while we are partnered with them we don't always have access to the updates they are sending, which may include pulling a registry down. Happy to help though! registryhelp@theknot.com, Attn: Keri - Let me take a look along with you.

My son swore by the vendors listed on The Knot Website and the Photographer took off with his pictures and the money and The Knot would not help me contact them. The Knot had to know who advertised with them but would not contact them for me or let me know how to contact them. So sad. This was August 31,2014 and it's still such a sore subject because my daughter in law is still so upset. If The Knot would like to help even at this late date I would be thrilled if they contact me about the scumbags that worked at Wedding Photo Connection in Fairfield, NJ The Knot recommended them. They also had a Rutherford, NJ office. If anyone knows anyone that worked there please contact me. We lost over $2,500. And wish we had the pictures... They used to go by the name Photo Video Network but pulled some scams & closed that business. *******@comcast.net

I signed up for The Knot when I first got engaged and later decided to go with other platforms when designing my website, registry, etc. The Knot makes it very hard for guests to find the correct wedding website, as they are the first thing that comes up on a Google search (likely through paid advertisement). I developed a beautiful website on Minted.com's platofmr that matched my wedding invitations, but guests were led to an unfinished website at theknot.com when they searched for us. Even after I deleted my wedding website with The Knot, guests were led to a registry with them that was incomplete (as I went with a different website). Would not recommend signing up for wedding website, registry, etc until you are sure they are the final destination for your guests' online search.

The Knot has some issues that have caused me to drop them from my advertising budget. Allowing another company that does not pay for advertising and then uses my company name in their reviews to steal and mislead the brides. I have shown them cease and desist letters to the company in question, but the Knot does not care. I am a paid advertiser for 10+ years. They are not at all. Plus ANYONE can now win the Best of award. Not just paid advertiser but non paid. What is the point of being on here if paying gets you the same as someone not paying.

I had a poor customer service experience. I booked a room through The Knot as a guest at a wedding and wanted to modify my reservation. First of all I never received a confirmation of booking or an itinerary after I originally booked the room so I had to call to even confirm I had booked successfully and to get my itinerary number. The picture attached shows how the room was marketed when I booked, clearly stating that there is FREE cancellation. However, when they finally gave me my itinerary it said non-refundable. I have not been able to contact a useful person who has any information to help me, everyone I talk to is just playing dumb. Be careful, if you finally get someone to talk to they will say they are going to forward you to the customer service line and either they just hang up or send you back to the automated voice at the beginning. Additionally they wouldn't allow me to change the type of room from a single King to 2 Queens despite the room rate being the same. The room rate is also $20/night more expensive when booking through The Knot compared to booking directly with the hotel. I thought I was getting some kind of discounted wedding party rate but clearly I should have shopped around.

UPDATE:
After I left this review I was contacted and given a refund. I am happy with the end result but I don't think I should have to leave a review to get assistance. My experience was still poor. Rating updated from 1 star to 2 stars.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this feedback! We have reached out to our hotel provider (HotelPlanner) they have advised the reservation was cancelled and a full refund has been issued as well.

We are so sorry to hear about your experience and we are taking this feedback to heart for future improvements in this process!

I haven't been a client of The Knot ot but I have been a guest of people using The Knot. Moderately difficult dealing with one gift vendor few years ago but that was nothing compared to hotel vendor they use Hotelplanner.com. It was not clear that I had been dragooned to that site versus what I thought - that I was contacting a Marriott directly, to book a room which was not a. Venue- related block of rooms.//special rate room. Ended up being precharged entire fee 2 months before, told non-cancellable. The price was exactly the same as I could get a month later on my own, with just a credit card # and cancellable in full up to 3 days before. There was no perk, no benefit to paying in full, ahead for a non cancelable room. Since I pay the card off monthly all I asked for was assurance if something happened it was cancellable. No no no. I made a complaint to Better Business Bureau. At 1st they didn't answer, then they responded to Better Business Bureau, sugesting they were reporting to BBB what they had told me: they could not change the cancelation policy, I would have to cancel and loose 1/2,
but... as a " gesture of goodwill. They were going to reverse the charge." Not mentioning they canceled the room and they were not contacting me directly. Had I not decided to get a second confirmation, I might not have suspected I had no reservation, much less known that. And as per usual - Language difficulty. Hotel planner has very poor ratings. After my initial foray I wrote the Knot - as their vendors reflect on them, and I got a very perfunctory brush off.

I DONT How to upload a message which is how they sent me the 1st confirmation

Tip for consumers:
Be very careful to know what site you are on. Hotel Planners Marriot site looks just like Marriott's own site when you're dealing directly with them. In fact The confirmation message never says HotelPlanner ... it says Marriott -the 2nd phone number listed goes to HotelPlanner. Meanwhile if you call Marriott they don't recognize the confirmation through their regular channels because it was booked by a 3rd party

The Knot outsources the booking of accommodations. You don't get the group rate, and stay can't be refunded.

Lauren S. – The Knot Rep

Hi Eline, I'm so sorry for any confusion. Yes, that is correct. The Knot does not offer any reservation services directly, but we do partner with a company called HotelPlanner to offer reservation services. You can reach out to the HotelPlanner support team directly for assistance with your reservation via the contact information below:

https://www.hotelplanner.com/ContactUs.htm

They should be able to assist you with group rates and refunds. I do apologize again for any confusion. I do hope that you are able to get this resolved with Hotel Planner.

The actual vendor management/to do checklist was very helpful.
However, when it came time to set up our website:
1. When we first set it up it was easy to do & cute. Once we tried to update to change certain things like page orders, details or EVEN THE DATE it was near impossible & did not update correctly.
2. The registry is so difficult. You can not reorder your gift items; you cannot group them by category or your preference.
3. Their new update apparently allows you to tag your "favorites" that will appear at the top of the list. It does not work. They are tagged, but no re-ordering happens.

Steer clear. My friend set her registry up on Zola & it is so much nicer. I wish I would have done that instead.

For a company the size of The Knot they need to have more customer service help. There was a serious issue with our wedding date showing up wrong in their system despite what was on our profile. Guests were unable to find our website and RSVP by searching for our wedding. When you call customer service you have to leave a message and they'll respond "within 2 days." I sent an email and it took over 24 hours to receive a reply which was "our tech team is working on it."

They are unable to maintain privacy- even if you change your settings to private (after several months of contacting them & waiting) they are unable to keep your wedding website off of search engines. For some this may not be a priority, however for me personally, having dealt with some undesirable attention, this was a nightmare. Otherwise I believe this site is good, but the lack of control over your own privacy from the public is disturbing & detrimental.

I made an account on theknot.com specifically to find venues in my area and to help me choose where to get married. Zero wedding venues in my town are listed on this website at all. Even when I searched with my zip code and city name on theknot website, only venues from 30+ miles away showed up. I did better research on my own! It was not difficult to find these wedding venues on my own through google search. I would think theknot staff could easily add them to their website - and if not, my guess is that it's probably because they want to charge the wedding venues an arm and a leg to advertise on their site - and to me that's bad business anyway. So this site was absolutely useless to me and I give it a 2 stars.

Tip for consumers:
Do not rely on theknot.com to give you all the information you need about venues in your area. They are not a complete list of what is available.

I had my business advertised on The Knot for over 4 years. I was very happy with the response I got until they changed the way brides responded via an app.
I was told "there is something wrong with my email"... long story short.
When they said hey it's time to renew I emailed them back saying I will be looking for other
Avenues to advertise. Now 5 months later they didn't get paid after that and now telling me I owe them for back fees... for WHAT? I lost. I should send them a bill.
So before you advertise with them. Make sure "there is nothing wrong with your email" whatever that means.
Several leads responded to went into spam when I did reply. If you advertise online and get a lead you know how important it is to answer in a timely manner... so does The Knot since they are constantly reminding me of this.

Placed an order 30 days in advance. Received partial order in 2 weeks, waited until the last minute for the remaining items. I wrote customer service who sent an email saying it was shipped, with a tracking number, unfortunately no deliver vendor was supplied and it turns out that was incorrect information. When I called 3 days later was told "I am very sorry, we are running a bit behind, it will ship tomorrow." When I asked about overnight shipping the charge would be $30 which was less than the remaining order.

Wedding is in a month, guests now have invitations, and TheKnot doesnt have their wedding date correctly written. Really? Guests search and say theknot doesnt work. After emails and a call to customer service, nothing has been done? We checked and rechecked our settings and its all correctly done. And the real joke-my daughter-in-law and I got the exact same email responsebut supposedly by a different person. I cant believe this! I will be pushing the competition from now on!

So, the site is really helpful. The timeline list thing is a great guideline. The free wedding website thing is helpful and sometimes they have some good advice. Some people have said that you can't delete anything and I've not had this problem. Our wedding date changed and it changed ok, but I've not gotten married yet so I've not needed to take anything down.

That being said, I would avoid the forums. It's like any forum. A lot of people there want to be jerks.

Weddings are different from culture to culture and family to family (couple to couple of course). Therefore, something that is acceptable or expected in one culture is frowned on in another. People on this site don't know that and will jump down your throat if they disagree. If you need advice, talk to actual humans.

We had a terrible experience with our wedding planner and our band. Both had 5-star ratings on The Knot. After reviewing them closer after the event. Many of the reviews used similar words and phrasing. I'm wondering if there's a service that pumps up reviews for pay.

I had high hopes for The Knot as it seemed to be "the" place to go for a wedding website. However, my hopes were dashed. The Knot is only for those who have a lot of time to expend on navigating this bizarrely organized site. Not much is easy to do (not even registries/charities), and the customer service is nil. If you have time and enjoy piddling around a wedding site, go for it. But if you have a life, you may want to look elsewhere.

According to Macy's Customer Service, any registry items ordered from Macy's through The Knot can take up to 30 days to be updated on the registry. Wow! That leaves a lot of room for duplicate items for the couple. Better to go through the dept store directly with your registry

The Knot could be SO helpful but it is laid out INCREDIBLY poor. I keep trying to use their tools and stuff but it won't tell you how to start the tools. I click "Inspiration Board" it says, "This user has no saved inspiration boards"... OK GREAT HOW DO I START ONE? I'm extremely frustrated at the lack of foresite to have a button there to click and start one. Thats just one example. I needed to vent about this. Morons.

While I enjoyed using The Knot to gather inspiration for my wedding and to create our wedding website, I was HIGHLY unimpressed with their customer service. First of all, I was somehow signed up for email blasts and mail blasts from vendors who bought distribution lists from theknot, even though I had specified I did not want to be contacted by any outside vendors. Next, they kept changing the checklists so I was constantly losing what the next steps would be for planning my wedding.

Finally... and most frustatingly, their 'easy' RSVP was not so easy. Yes, the guests could RSVP from the website but 50% of the time, an email would be sent to me saying someone RSVPed while the other 50% had no email. Likewise, 50% of those who RSVPed on the website changed status automatically in our list housed by theknot, then the other 50% of the time they didn't change status which meant I had to meticulously go through my list multiple times in order to make sure I had everyone accounted for... oh this also meant going though their emails and also contacting all our guests again to double check. Oh yea... there were a number of times the guests responses didn't show up. This final issue was so frustrating that I contacted the company about the issue. It's been a month since my wedding and 2 months since I contacted them with no response.

If you don't use them for your guest list, website or checklist and just purely for inspiration, it's great. If you need any support, they are the worst company to use.

I ordered custom match boxes from them. It took nearly 4 weeks, which I had planned for, though they did not provide time frames. The match boxes were fine, But I ordered gold match boxes with wine colored ink. I got gold match boxes with white ink. I had no trouble with customized napkins I ordered through another vendor and received in less than 2 weeks. So I was a little annoyed, but, of course, no time to return. At least they were gold and the names and date was correct, so we will use them. They are attractive so nobody but us knows the ink color was not what we wanted. However, I really would not use them again as I found the lead times too long and not really reliable. Please note that I only ordered the personalized match boxes from them, so don't know how they are on other items. I did send customer service an email trying to check order status after a few weeks, but they never responded. So personally I would not use them again. The other wedding vendors I used shipped within 1-2 days and I always got responses to any emails.
