“They Don't Pay You for Articles You Write”

Danielle H.
10/6/23

I was asked to write something in transparent.ai. The platform wouldn't save my certificate (I received an error message), so I copied and pasted it into a google document. When I asked about submitting the article, I was told that I needed to completely rewrite the content! All of this for a $5 article and because of a glitch in the platform they use. I refuse to rewrite 500 words all because one of their tools isn't working. It's not worth writing for textbroker since they provide their writers with 0 support.

Low price-per-word rates and nearly impossible to get a 5-star author account so you get stuck doing 2 cents per word orders with very demanding and specific formatting and style requirements.

I've placed several orders through this platform and every time the quality is simply so low. Grammar mistakes, wrong vocabulary, wrong and inaccurate information. Zero research.
Writers are lazy, provide completely inaccurate information and clearly English is not their native language. Wasted money. Awful experience. Don't waste your money on this platform.

Tip for consumers:
Don't use this platform.

This site violates the laws regarding theft of wages. They come up with bogus rules that make contractors employees. Like what happened with Uber, someone needs to sue them.

I ordered a test article with 4-star quality. What I got was a plagiarised piece of garbage. I tried refusing, I tried canceling, I tried contacting the seemingly non-existent support. A week later, they put the article back out for tender even though I said I wanted it canceled. I couldn't get anyone on the line and had to close the account to stop 'writers' from continuously trying to submit articles that were garbage. The system wouldn't let me stop the task. And no refund even though I NEVER ACCEPTED THE ARTICLE! Call me old fashioned, but I call that theft.

The company claims that all their writers are native english speakers. But that't totally wrong. I have made several article requests in it and all of the articles came rubbish. A 5th grade boy will write better than their so called native speaking writers.

Thank you for your feedback! Textbroker allows any author who is legally able to work in the United States to write on our site. We then rate each author according to their writing skills and abilities. In this case, you chose to place orders at the 2-star level, which is our lowest quality level. We did advise you about the low quality of content that you would receive via email and recommended that you consider placing at a higher quality level prior to activating your order. In the future, we would strongly recommend that you review our quality level information before placing orders on our site. Information about our quality levels can be found in our client FAQ: https://www.textbroker.com/faq/client

Really annoying to use. I tried to use this to make my job/life easier - but instead they make me upload an image holding my ID.

Bad Experience and waste of time.

I like the fact that you can work at your own pace, but the pay is insulting for the work to be done. Textbroker is like a "sweatshop" of the digital age. You have to do some significant amounts of research at times, and can take some time to complete the article (under the pressure of time sensitivity, usually 24 hours)) for a very low pay. It's too aggravating for the pay I get. I am sure there are better freelance writing opportunities out there. Textbroker is the "had to start somewhere" type, but cannot stay in it long-term.

Terrible compensation, I am an English professor, submitted a written sample of my work, and these jokers rated me two out of five stars. Blatant misrepresentation of qualified editors. Run, don't walk away.

I have written 60 articles and after so many years they closed my account because of one article they were not satisfied with. My articles in the past few months have been rated excellent by clients. I am very disappointed in TextBroker!

1. The passport registration is just horrible - long, very insecure and not understandable.
2. The process of accepting/reviewing the order is so misleading! I wanted the author to just make few corrections to the order, so clicked - Revise and gave feedback. Out of the sudden, the whole article is gone and I got completely new one, which is a piece of *, then review all over again, and again, complete waste of time:/
3. The user interface is super confusing, visibly not tested nor created with UX in mind. Is that even a technology company?

Hi Ewelina! Thank you for your feedback! Our verification process is in place to protect yourself, account holders and Textbroker from fraud, and has proven to be quite successful! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't receive the content that you wanted from the first author you worked with. When you send a revision request, the author will have 24 hours to comply. If they do not submit the revised text within the 24 hours, the order will automatically be returned to the order pool so that another author may complete your order. If you ever have any questions about how to use our site, please feel free to reach out to Client Services at clients@textbroker.com or via live chat from within your account!

They redesigned and the new design is so horrible, that it is barely usable. So many bugs and frustrations, I am planning to start using freelance sites rather than this. Paid 20K so far for content, the customer support is either not responding or rude and ignorant as hell. I know other people got similar issues as well. This is not how a business should be run.

First, it took Textbroker at least 10 days to even look at my writing sample. When I inquired, they approved it later that day with an apology. They also accepted my article samples. But later, after giving me a 4-star rating, they took my article links down, saying my byline was against policy. I hadn't realized that, so I understood. But why accept them in the first place?

Besides this, which was a mere frustration, the rates are poor at best. I've written professionally for almost 20 years, drumming up freelance on my own, and Textbroker rates are CRIMINAL, even for beginner writers. Four-star writers receive around 6 cents per word, if that. Even the lower paying assignments I've had with various companies and websites have paid 20 cents more per word than this text mill, at the very *least*. If you want to work hard (writing can be tough) and provide valuable content that clients will profit from much more than you will, then go for it. Work for Textbroker if you need a start. Even a bleak one. But if you value yourself and your work, don't.

You're better off approaching companies, websites and organizations on your own, without this middleman to rip you off.

Having used them for 5 articles, I can say with certainty that the work their supposed "5 star" writers suck. What's worse, if you tell them you're unhappy with the quality of the work, they don't care. They still keep the crap writers at 5 star even with poor customer feedback. Bad customer service, crappy writers, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Textbroker now requires writers to re-verify their accounts by sending a photo of themselves showing their faces completely while holding a picture of their ID cards that is easy to see in the photo too and if you don't comply within a day, they permanently close your account. I'll try to find a better site that lets you write for clients and is likely to last.

I worked for this lame company for 1 week. They hired me for a coordinator job and had me editing. They didn't provide any training to me for my position nor did they have a computer that was up to its needs and updated with the proper software needed to do my daily job! Total waste of time!

I have spent the last 15 years as a professional writer. Blogs, print and also have worked as an editor. I'm no slouch at writing.

After literally hundreds of blogs for these people over three years, hundreds, all rated a "4" - all of them - ONE client rejected an article (after asking for changes that I made per his instructions) and, not being a mind reader, (apparently I didn't get what he meant in his 15 word email) he rejected it. After three years, hundreds of blogs and ONE unsatisfied client I was reduced to a "3" with a congratulatory email -no kidding, it read: "Congratulations! You are now a 3 star writer."

Wha? 3 star writers have a more limited pool of choices for blogs (and they aren't that great to begin with!) and less pay. Because on ONE unsatisfied client.

Actually, that's what cut if for me, although I really should have moved along long before. These people are clearly idiots. Often you find yourself writing blogs that you normally wouldn't because the pool gets so limited. Your "pay" can be sort of decent (it is NEVER good) and don't believe anyone who says you can make a living at this!- but also can be quite paltry. Quite. You are not in control of that either. Many of the blogs ask for "from a Canadian point of view" or such that will discount it for US writers. Many blogs are $1.50 product descriptions. Some client's instructions are filled with grammatical and spelling errors. Some are unclear. Some clients are good ones, but some want "War and Peace" for $6. And TB will expect you to do that. They ask you to include all sorts of things that are not in the realm of "writing". You're actually better off flipping burgers or working at the 7-11 and working on your own blog or novel. Trust me. It will be a lot more dependable.

It took me THREE attempts to reach Textbroker to get an answer about a transaction being run twice on my business bank account. When I got frustrated and said that if I didn't hear back from someone, I'd be forced to dispute the transaction with my bank, I was threatened with account suspension and/or closure. I've been a Textbroker client for almost 6 years. I get calls all day, every day from other content providers, looking to take my business from Textbroker, yet I've stayed loyal to them. So please. Close my account. I'll save tons of money, and I'll guess that I'll not get these threats and that the next company may actually appreciate my business.

As an author, I can say that my experience with this site is just as horrific as the clients. Often times clients give poor instructions which leave authors perplexed. The editors that are supposed to review content are often inconsistent with their feedback to authors who have little recourse if they are treated unfairly by textbroker. Rates for authors are abysmally low given that many clients require extensive research for their articles.

I worked for Textbroker for about four months and wrote 37 articles with one rejection. In energy received any article reviews from Textbroker editors until months later. The one rejection was because I couldn't figure out the company's hyperlink mechanism. I received rave reviews and continued to write at a level 4 hoping to advance to 5. At the 37 article textbroker all of a sudden gives a review of all my articles and reduces my level to 3. A professional company would review articles as the writer presents them so that whatever faults textbroker finds can be changed and the writer's work enhanced. I am a seasoned writer. The problems Textbroker found with my work are unjustifiable. Don't waste your time.

I am just getting started and I am anything but impressed. It was highly recommended to me by my college professor to write professionally, so I decided to check out the site. My writing was rated a three, and there was only one job available in the three or less range. The topic was not something I would be able to do justice... so, what a waste of time...

Not good at all in my opinion. This "service" has the worst proposed content I have seen in a long time, and it appears that the site editors and authors have no recognition of the search algorithms used by major search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. If you take a look at their sample blog texts, you will find that the author(s) appear to have absolutely no concept of SEO or what it takes to be noticed in a generic search since the inception of Google's search algorithms, which have been in place since 2011! The text they submit has a very automated feel to it, as if it is the result of "bot" compilation of numerous pieces of old, stale text parading as "new" content. It also looks like this is just a way to get aspiring authors to work for basically free. I would stay away.

Sitejabber for Business

Gain trust and grow your business with customer reviews.

From the business

Textbroker is the leading digital content creation site. We bring clients and authors together to create custom content, such as blogs, product descriptions, press releases and more!

Business History

The idea behind Textbroker is to satisfy the growing demand for custom content. As an SEO provider, Textbroker founder Jan Becker-Fochler experienced first-hand the increasing importance of unique content to his clients; after all, unique content leads to a better ranking in search engines, more traffic and more revenue. Then, in 2005, Becker-Fochler came up with the idea to search for authors, motivate them to write, rate the quality of their work and compensate them for their effort. To accomplish this, he commissioned the development of a preliminary version of the Textbroker platform.

Within a short time, thousands of authors eager for the chance to earn money with their writing signed up. In 2007, Textbroker launched the Internet’s first content marketplace. Today, Textbroker authors deliver high-quality product descriptions, blog posts, press releases, social media posts, news stories, and technical articles and a wide variety of other written content to clients around the world. In essence, Textbroker is a better, faster, easier and less expensive way for companies to get freelance written content.
