I stumbled on this website when I was looking for a red ski pant, their price is somehow cheaper compare to others. Since I need the ski pant for the weekend, I paid $14.99 for 3 days delivery which was delivered on time but too bad the pant did not fit so I had to return it even though I know there is a return fee for $6.99 which I was fine with that, but what annoyed me was they deducted the $6.99 return fee from the item price amount that I paid then added back the sales tax, hence I did not get the full sales tax amount that I paid them, I felt so cheated. Hey Steep & Cheap! You're suppose to deduct that $6.99 return fee from the total amount that I paid you and not the other way around. Because of this most likely I will not make another purchase from your website.
Difficult to deal with on orders. Slow and expensive shipping compared to other online retailers. Prices fluctuate wildly; product I bought was $60 cheaper the day after I bought it. Offered a refund and never sent it.
After reading the terrible reviews I was hesitant, but decided to take a chance since the hard to find boots I wanted were 50%. They arrived within two days and were exactly what I ordered. Very satisfied!
I bought an expensive jacket that arrived with a nonfunctional zipper. The vendor is charging me return shipping for their garbage.
There have been changes and yes times items I was slightly confused about. This is an auction site, with gear from previous years. Yes I've had snags in socks, or ordered too small or big. That's on me for not getting a measurement. Steep n cheep has been with me all over the world and I got to sat I know I can always find a deal. I keep my expectations real and the products are legitimate so I find this company and it's other affiliates affordable and convenient.
Try putting something in your cart on Steep & Cheap and let it sit there for a few weeks to watch the prices fluctuate depending on the particular sale. I did this with two items while I debated whether to splurge or not and I was shocked how the prices went up when the company offered a sale (say $40 off a $200 purchase) and back down again when the sale expired. If you read this review and others here, I think the theme will become clear. This is a company with shady practices. For some, the deal might be worth it; for me, I'd rather support a company that has the same kind of values I try to uphold in the backcountry.
This is how they treat you when they send you the wrong product. In fact, they pictured a product they didn't even have in stock to begin with. I'll be returning the shoes ASAP. Seriously, WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? Dogfunk.com was WAY better than backcountry.com (which owns steep and cheap and they bought out dogfunk). Steep because they're full of themselves and cheap because they're slimy.
I bought them a jacket and a backpack from the steep and cheap website. But when I got the jacket, it does not have any tag, it seems like someone used it before.
I am shopping from Backcountry from last more than 5 years. They were really good with top customer service. I spend thousands of dollars on outdoor gear each year. Recently their customer service went really downhill and really rude. They are more focused on sponsoring youtubers and giving them free gears than giving a good customer service. I am switching to Mossejaw and Campsaver and they are way better. Moosejaw's outlet website will charge you for a freaking shipping. Stay away from Backcountry!
I was pretty nervous about ordering from this website because of all the bad reviews. But I went ahead and bit the bullet. I did order through PayPal to try and make it easier to get a refund if I had to but this was a non-issue.
My order came very quickly, in 2 days, and was in perfect condition. I got jackets that cost $300 on North face for $135, so I'm glad I was patient and waited for the end of season sale. This site is worth it.
I bought a pair of pants for $73 dollars and was only refunded for $53! You will not get back shipping and tax and then they charge you another 6.99 for the label which comes out of what out of what you paid originally! You will basically just be giving them money.
Guess I should have read the reviews as they have the same story.
POOR!
Don't buy here trust me you'll lose money! They are such a Goddamn nightmare. $6.99 to return then charged 8.99 for original shipping.
So, my gear is lost in the mail. Not really their fault, but? I paid for shipping and the item is now 15 days out with no sign on tracking of when I am going to get it. I sent 2 emails with no response. I then called. I was basically told that "thats the thing with the steep and cheap" - its old products and you are getting a discount. No help, no consideration on my price for shipping - nothing. Never buying from either site again.
On April 24,2020 I ordered a NorthFace Thermoball Triclimate ski jacket after checking reviews of the jacket.
The ordering process was easy and the product arrived May 1,2020 although it was misplaced(wrong box) by the USPS so I did not get it until May 4,2020. The product was in excellent shape and exactly as It was pictured. I have not used it yet skiing so my review is for using Steep & Cheap. The price was much cheaper than any other ski jacket online outlet. I would absolutely use this company again. Whe ski season starts this coming winter I will review the jacket itself.
I was skeptical but went to a store, tries on several Costa sunglasses and lens colors, discovered a style and copper mirror that was sensational, found the glasses on Steep and Cheap, orders them and got them in two days as represented. They were $268 in store I looked at and I paid a little over $75 dollars including tax and shipping. I got them today and they are perfect. I can't believe i saved almost $200 Unbelievable!
If you want to spend the next month checking your credit card company for fake refunds, and chasing their customer service again again again then buy from this Steep&Cheap store
Steep and cheap sent me a defective item
I sent them a picture of the defective item
I asked them to send a free shipping label
They agreed
They refund me the wrong amount
I told them it is wrong
The y lie
They harass you
They give you fake information
They harass you again
Like how?
One after another they repeat the same game
They pretend they don't know
Then force you to explain again
They make lies
Saying you pay the original "free" shipping
Just absolute nonsense
Harassment and lies, and yes i have names
Your charges are for the free shipping to your house
Your charges are free, but UPS charges you we didn't
They send you fake refund codes
Paypal says the codes are fake
They lie to you saying they will take care of it, they don't
2 or 3 days later, you will try all over again
I send the emails of the pre-authorization
They lie to you and say who is that who said that I dont know him
I sent them 10 to 20 emails repeating the same thing, only one each day
If you want to spend the next month doing that, then buy from this store
Fake emails fake excuses fake refunds fake codes
You will have to chase your credit card
You have to re-contact them to say the refund is fake
These are all the cooperators These are the customer representatives who harassed me

They may have some great deals, but they misrepresented a product and charged me to return it. Their product description of a particular sleeping bag was wrong. I contacted them, and they sent a canned email reply. No real human response. I paid $8 shipping to receive the item and they charged me another $7 to send it back using their return label. I won't buy from them again due to their terrible customer service.
Steep and Cheap buys defective products from manufacturers at deeply discounted prices, then they sell them to you. When you buy them and subsequently return them they charge you for shipping which increases their volume with UPS thereby getting them a discount on shipping for all of their sites (. E.g. backcountry.com). The private equity guys that bought backcountry do not care about the long term or the steep&cheap customer. They do care about the backcountry customers. They are trying to lower thier overall shipping costs to sell the company to some other fool. You and I are part of the greater fool theory. No More.
What you are doing may be legal, but morally i cant support this tactic. Too bad; Ive been a long time customer. Happy to pay a few more bucks at another "backcountry" store. Shame on you.
I purchased a kayak from steep and cheap (backcountry.com) and had it shipped to my workplace because it had to be shipped via freight. The kayak was only wrapped in plastic. Someone in my warehouse signed for it. Once I finally got around to inspecting it, the kayak was really neat up. But the worst part is there was a puncture hole in the bottom of it. I called backcountry and they informed me I would have to pay for return freight, and freight back to me for the new kayak. I would have to pay to ship
It 3x at the cost of over $300 for a $400 kayak. My advice, pay the extra money before purchasing anything form this joke of a company.
Answer: I did, and bad absolutely no problems. Item was as expected.
