I was selling on the app and I refunded my customer due to their app having issues. The customer had a pending refund that then disappeared. I contacted Square customer service 7 different times and was told 7 different things. Disconnected twice and told verbatim in chat "we will no longer be discussing this with you" The customer had a printout from the bank showing that there is nothing pending, only a posted amount. The customer did a three way call with me and there bank where they confirmed that square sent a refund and then withdrew it and no deposits were coming in and that the original deposit had been sent back. When I told square this, they refused to help. So the money has been stolen by Square. I have documentation of everything and screen recorded all conversations. I am hoping to find someone to help me expose this company for the frauds they are. 7 different people and none of them helped.
What a rip off big scam they press you to take your first payment once you sign up with them so I took my first payment that was $1000 and they kept my money on hold for three months because they said it looked like a freight charge. I provided all the proper documents, and they still have not released my money.
I have been exchanging E-mails with Square about a non-functioning card reader (or associated software) for days, and have yet to receive one that actually addressed the problem I'm reporting.
The responses prove that nobody reads the messages. Do they just push a "choose random, irrelevant response" button?
If you catch them on their Web site during chat hours, you must force the chat system out of automated mode by typing "contact." After that, you'll wait an unknown amount of time... only to be bounced back into the automated mode and have to answer more irrelevant bot questions. Then force it back into "representative" mode.
After all that, you'll likely find that your problem is due to something stupid on Square's end. Like the fact that they have a desktop app (only for Mac currently, WTF) that doesn't work with Square's own card readers. In fact, NOTHING on a computer works with the Square readers. But you can take payments through the Web portal on a computer if you have some kind of mag-stripe reader. Yes... a mag-stripe reader. In 2023.
The only motivation I can see for this is that Square wants to jack you for an extra 1% on every transaction, because they consider any transaction entered on a computer "manual." Well gee, there's no other option, because your reader doesn't work with your own software, Square.
People need to recognize that when someone deliberately wastes your time, they are STEALING. And that is what Square is doing.
We're a 35-year-old company that decided to phase out PayPal and their computer generated re-actions despite our 15-year-old account, in excellent status.
We signed up with Square and crossed our fingers for a good experience.
With an hour of signing, we took in our first merchant payment of under €600 and the account was immediately suspended, then reinstated two hours later (at which time we dispersed a portion of the funds), then deactivated three hours later and informed that it would be 90 days before we would have access to our measly $400!
Seven days later and several calls from our finance department, each day they were told it was a simple glitch, happens occasionally and they would have it fixed post haste.
Apparently, when asked for a nickname, it signed us up for a 2nd account with no way to unwind it. The 2nd account was fine but it would have to be corrected. We were told every day that it would be back online, money redeposited, etc.
Finally we received a notice that said the money was in the account and yet the balance showed no activity.
After our VP challenged the accuracy of such, we found out the account had been deactivated the entire week, so we asked them..."Are you telling us there's nothing we can do that we should see a competitor" and they answered "That's what I'm telling you"!
People were courteous at all times but they have a very irritating voice prompt that hangs up on you and claims they'll send you a text for an expedited chat, which never happened in the multiple calls attempted.
Bottom line - these people are a colossal waste of time; not a single staff member (until the last one we spoke to) seemed to have any clue or competence, and while he wasn't rude, his message was alarmingly deficient in caring about the customer experience.
WORST MERCHANT COMPANY EVER! DO NOT USE! I ran my first ever transaction with them via the app almost $2500 for a 2 night vacation rental. It went through just fine. Then they contact me via email asking me 20 questions about my business. So I give it all to them, everything they asked for. Then I receive another email stating they are deactivating my account and holding the funds for a period of 90 days then they will release the money. I called the company, got a live rep on the phone which told me everything will be sent via email only and then hung up on me. No explanation whatsoever to why this happened. I sent them my EIN for my S Corp/LLC, photo ID etc. If something seemed off why wouldn't they reach out. To add, why are they requiring this info for simple CC transactions anyways. I feel like they stole from me. I will never use this company again and I will go out of my way to spread the word on this experience to all business owners and people I know. Do not ever use them.
They don't deserve 1 star! They blocked my funds and asked for documents and information then when i gave them all they asked they started asking for additional things, i never got trough till i refunded all sales and choose a other company.
I am looking to change pos systems since Quickbooks is discontinuing theirs and cant get a person from square to help with questions. All you get is a text and a link. Awful
Called today at 9:36 2nd time to talk to someone in loan department. Said can not answer your call call back at regular business hours from 8am to 5 pm Mon to Fri. It's 9:30 am. And it's recordered.
Square made an extreme increase in pricing and subscription rates and charged our non profit organization annually without giving us the option to pay month to month. They did not send a receipt nor give details regarding the services now offered in the "upgrade". This was a hard hit at the first of the month when rent and bills are due.
This year is the second time my account has been locked takes payment says its transferring to your bank account a d never does. I had to call customer support that sucks three times. Finally was able to transfer my $7600 and now wait two more days. They could waive the fee and transfer instantly. Im looking for a better alternative. Last year my account was getting hacked their fix was to change my email so I cant even have my business email tied to my square account. Great security
Literally been robbed by square. This is not right! Forcing us to do a refund on 100k transaction
We had 111k in credit card transactionsfor a sale of a vehicle we did. We provided every document we needed to squares team to prove the transaction was legitimate. To complete this they needed bank statements, purchase orders, signed credit card authorization forms. WE DID EVERYTHING! To then be told we are denied the ability to transfer the money to our LLC bank account. So then they email us and say we need to issue a refund to the customer and seek another form of payment. WE DO and then learn that square charges a refund fee for the 3.50% debited from our business account. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THIS IS ACTUAL STEALING FROM A SMALL BUSINESS. HOW IS THERE NOT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OVER THIS.
I signed up for a really great deal called " Personal Services" website where I used my own domain. They claimed it would only be $6 a month since I'm using my own personal domain. I paid for the site usage a year ago for the full year. I got an email saying that it was time for my website to be renewed. I put my credit card in there and it just kept saying that there was something wrong with my card. Called customer service and I'm told that " AS OF MAY 1, they NO LONGER OFFER THE PLAN I WAS ON TO ANYONE AND THAT I MUST UPGRADE. " So instead of renewing at the $72 that I was prepared for they are now asking for $144 dollars from me. This company is a complete scam I had NO IDEA!
I've used square in the past and they were ok for smaller transaction deals but if its bigger than a thousand it is a nightmare. Every transaction goes under review and you are interrogated like a criminal requiring you so many proof and what kind of business you ran why you get so much money. It's annoying especially if it goes on review every single time and they hold the money until they are satisfied with the answer or ask you for more details. Also they don't have 24/7 support so if you charge in the weekend because you do business in the weekend expect delays. If you're making a sale and needs the funds right away avoid square as they are unreliable that's why they don't have a good review.
Square has constantly been closed during business hours. They have delayed payments, and been extremely rude if you need anything from them. They say I don't know instead of finding out what's wrong and will completely end the chat while you're still asking questions.
They are the rudest company we have ever worked with. If you haven't signed up with them, I would suggest finding another route. Someone who has actually been trained on how to help others and help businesses. I'm beginning to wonder if Square is a shell company.
Ps I have used square for years and this year is the absolute worst. They have never been so outright rude and disrespectful. One of our businesses is photography the other is cleaning.
With out any notice they will withhold 20% of you money for 90. When you contact their customer service they will send an automated response stating they will review your case in 180 day. They are withholding thousands of dollars of my profits after my expenses that I need to live on.
We are a small ecommerce store. Square does not provide a secure payment method for online payment. As soon as I connected square payment method to our ecommerce store, we started getting lot more transactions than before. Square verified all the transactions are valid. After 1 month, all of them reported payment dispute as those are done by scam people through Square online payment. We fulfilled, delivered all orders to customers and provided proof of delivery with tracking number. Still,Square did not provide any help on solving payment dispute. Their customer service did not respond at all and ignore our cases. Totally unprofessional people work on the customer service team. We ended up losing a lot of money from those disputes. We immediately disconnected their payment method. We will never use it again nor will recommend it to anyone. Square is a very illegitimate and unprofessional business.
SQUARE IS HORRIBLE! They blocked my phone from calling customer support! Unheard of. Any issues or questions I can't solve. They often deem Fraudulent transaction & freeze your money. You try to resolve - their customer service is Non existent: incompetent, barely speak English & only run arounds. None of my issues had ever be solved. Horrible scammer Co to entrust your $.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my account verified for almost two weeks to no avail. Each time I am transferred to Account Services and I am convinced this department doesnt even exist. There is no way to get ahold of them except to wait for them to email you. This is laughable when I am dealing with thousands of dollars and need to pay my employees. They mishandle my very sensitive identity information and really can't get it together, which is a *******@mn shame.

Answer: No, I can't, because they're a garbage company that can't verify my identity, even with my SSN and repeated support requests, and refuses to even look at my ID. I would love to share a success story, too bad they won't let me have one.
