The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and shipping practices, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction over exorbitant shipping fees, poor item descriptions, and inadequate packing leading to damaged goods. Many reviews highlight a perceived shift from a community-focused mission to a profit-driven approach, resulting in a loss of customer trust. While some long-time customers appreciate the variety of items available, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration with the lack of transparency, responsiveness, and support. This feedback suggests a pressing need for the company to reassess its customer service policies and shipping practices to enhance overall satisfaction.

I won a beautiful antique bracelet and was about to pay the almost $6000 when they all of a sudden deactivated my account and wouldn't let me make the purchase. They are so greedy that they didn't think my $6000 was enough money for the bracelet and used some excuse to deactivate my account and not let me complete my purchase. Terms and conditions says in the fine print that they can prevent a bid, prevent a purchase and deactivate accounts "for any reason whatsoever " I won the item fair and square and they took it right out from under me when I wasn't looking.
Very unhappy about a Joe Rocket motorcycle jacket simply listed as pre-owned look at pictures. No damage to the outside looked brand new, when package arrived, I tried on the jacket and my hands and arms were covered in a black greasy chemical, which ruined my shirt and required paint thinner to remove off skin. Pulled open the jacket liner and the inside sleeves were covered in a black tar like chemical. They had to have seen this when they put the jacket on the mannequin or when they packed it. I guess since they say they are non-profit it means they can lie and sell unsafe products. I'm having the chemical tested and contacting the state attorney general regarding this. Very unsafe!
I have used shopgoodwill.com for years, seems lately they are getting much worse, especially shipping from West coast locations, California, Washington and Oregon. Damaged items that were not individually wrapped and $26 shipping for a 2lb small item, because according to them its the boxes they have to use. North, midwest, and east coast seem to take better care wrapping and shipping much cheaper. See picture of Seattle shipment of video cards, shipped in a bag with no bubble wrap, microprocessor chips were all torn off, useless and once were worth some money but had to trash them.
This is from personal experience. You are charged a handling fee PER ITEM you win in auction regardless of shipping or pickup. For me that was $3/item. I won 3 auctions and tried to combine shipping but was not able to without opening a support ticket. They had sneakers listed as 12lbs and a handheld 8mm camera listed as 17lbs. When you look at the item details they add 10lbs to the "actual" weight of the item, again the actual is their assessment of the weight which is not accurate. Be very aware of these conditions when bidding on items you thing you are getting a deal on. My 2 winning bids for the combined shipping was $15.98 - my total due for shipping/handling/tax was $32.15. If picked up I would only save $8.69 so my total would be 23.46. As a comparison I won a $4 auction at an auction house and I paid $4.69 when I picked it up and that includes seller premium and tax. I know $4 and $16 are bigger amounts but 4x the lower amount and you get $18.76 not $23.46. Open support tickets if you feel the shipping weight is wrong especially if it's preventing you from combining multiple items in one shipping box.
There are many complaints of prices being pushed up by ghost bidders online to improve profit. By this you are killing the hen of the golden eggs...
At the beginning of the week I was looking at a small 2 lb hand saw on their site. It was from MN. They stated the weight was 2 lbs and the size listed was small, ( I can't remember the exact dimensions but it was approx. 12" x 6".). The shipping quote was OVER $40! I posted a screen shot of the quote and a comment / question on their facebook page, asking why were they ripping us off on shipping and provided shipping charges from the east coast as proof. Yep, they deleted it. Nice to know that the shopgoodwill site is admin'd by the same people as the Facebook site. Don't answer legit questions just delete them. A word of caution, Watch the shipping charges closely. Some of the locations jack the shipping after the auction when the price doesn't go high enough. The changed the shipping charge on a BOOK, from $9.75 to $30 AFTER the auction ended. When I asked why and provided before and after proof, the told me to pay or have my account removed.
Seller wasn't happy with the amount an item sold for, I guess and outbid me with 3 seconds remaining. I was bidding $20+ more than the item price and somehow I was outbidded by exactly $1 seconds before the bid ended with no competition for more than half an hour...
They lie about the jewelry lots, they have legit garbage mixed in as well as broken glass, and sharp objects. In one of the lots, I received a pendant necklace with actual cocaine powder inside. I contacted the store the item came from, they had no response on the matter. The handling fees are a joke. Why are we being charged a handling fee for the item not being handled. I receive my packages with the jewelry thrown in a bag then in a box and arrives completely broken. The site is straight up evil. Very deceiving and legit hazardous/illegal items mixed in. Attached photos are the latest received from a Florida goodwill through the site. They offered only a $5 refund for, and I quote "we can offer a $5 dollar refund for a couple broken items" Most of the items are broken. This was just what was at the bottom of the plastic bag, the larger broken items were taken out.
I would agree that the shipping and handling is overpriced but I still have been able to find amazing bargains. I support Goodwill as it is a worthy cause and offers amazing prices if you have patience and a bit of spare cash.
I bought 8 pounds of jewelry. The jewelry was shipped in a large zip lock bag inside an oversize box with no padding. When I got the box, the zip lock bag had opened and jewelry was all tangled. Tangled so bad I had to throw some of it away. NO QUALITY CONTROLL.
They have set bid increments just like how eBay does but if you bid $50, youre paying $50. I checked the bid history before trying to cancel my orders and it showed one item going from $30 (other bid) to $50 (my bid) and i was charged $16 for shipping, for an item that weighs 5.4 ounces. When I complained they said that someone bid $1 below I did in the last 10 seconds. I put the bid in 30 minutes before end of auction and the bid that was $1 below mine was one hour after mine. So they put their bid in 30 minutes after it ended? How does this make sense? Then I checked all of the ones I had won and they were all the same. Out of 5 items how did someone bid exactly $1 below me when it wasn't in the bid history before? Most of the video games on there end up selling for higher than eBay retail prices. I don't understand why anyone uses them for those kinds of things.
Beware of the Goodwill Rocky Mountain-Boise location, their packing is horrible, you don't want to buy anything on line from this location that is breakable and has to be shipped, you will get it in pieces, they just throw items in a box with very little to no protective packing at all and throw it on the truck and when you receive your merchandise all broken in pieces and try to contact them concerning the issue they could care less. Most Goodwill locations pack pretty good but not the Northern Rocky Mountain-Boise location, so buyers beware!
Reason for the title, I purchased a jeep willis die cast, seller posted as a 1/8 scale won the the auction, when I got the item, I received a 1/32 scale very small, I was scam and over paid, I try to return and ask for a full refund, let just said got no replied. A few month ago I purchased a electric guitar for 152.00 when I open the package the guitar smell and was very dusty 2 days later I was at the emergency room for sinus infection I am old man lol, and never suffered from any type allergies, buyer be aware, this place have a bad habit of faults advertisement and will give you a hard time refunding you. PS To all goodwill clean the items before you mail them out to your customer. I will never shop and support goodwill again.
These people clearly dont know how to pack a package to keep the item safe. They also cant count. I realize that they dont have all the time in the world but just by looking at the lego set you can clearly see pieces missing. Poor customer service.
Emails are not returned. Customer service is terrible. For a non profit organization bringing in millions upon millions And paying CEO's millions, the job they are doing is not Satisfying this customer. Just try to contact anyone, anyone.! It's impossible.
I won a VCR on auction and when I plugged it in there was a terrible clicking noise and it ate my tape. Do they even plug items in to make sure they work before putting on the website? If so it would have been obvious that it was broken. Plus you only have 7 days to return an item. Who can do that in the mail system today! Never buy anything from this site. If they sell broken items then your chance of getting a broken item, especially electronics, is great. As a customer you have a reasonable expectation that an item you purchase works. What a total rip off. This is criminal.
As a customer of shopgoodwill.com since 2011, I've spent thousands of dollars with this company and have noticed increasingly unusual behavior. It didn't used to be so apparent yrs ago but I'm convinced they are practicing shill bidding. I've seen too many high value items either get bid on early then the bidder driving up the price drops out, high value items that are won by someone, then reappear for auction before the 7 day window is up for a winning bidder to pay, and I'm seeing more and more the same user names driving up bids on multiple items that are the same or similar. This all leads to fake (shill or house) bids being placed from within that goodwill. Also the shipping prices have increased a thousand fold when compared to prices from a few yrs ago. Incredibly deceptive. I hope a class action lawsuit is started so I can get a fraction of the thousands I've lost due to their dishonest practices.
I've seen them, time and time again, fake new dolls to look like antiques. There is a lot of money to be scammed. It can't all be an accident. Reproduction barbie dolls are placed in their reproduction boxes and put in a lot with real vintage but cheap dolls. This makes a $25 dollar doll look like it's a 5-10 thousand dollar doll. Madame Alexander Cissettes will be redressed in vintage doll clothing, their 1980s ensemble hidden in a heap of junk and her knees so conveniently hidden so her true age won't be seen... a $20 doll lot sells for 300 bucks. I don't know how they continue to get away with it, but they do!
The Goodwill is getting crazy with their prices. They pay nothing for it and want new or above new price for it. A 2/3 bottle of Power Stick frome the Dollar tree for $3.99. At Winchester Kentucky Goodwill. $5 for a used bucket in My. Sterling KY and I could go on and on. The Goodwill store is suppose to be about help people not about getting rich from other people's Goodwill. I would throw my stuff away before I would donate it to the Goodwill. They have to be a better charity out there to donate to.
Large picture was packed so badly the glass shattered during shipping. I cut myself while opening the picture and the picture was damaged from the glass shards. Called several times and was referred to different stores and offices and nothing. They did nothing. A jewelry box was I ordered at the same time as the picture was damaged while it was waiting to be shipped! They refunded the money, but this is ridiculous. Never again.
Answer: It did not get lost they did not get the price they wanted for the said item so it's lost they will wait for a while and realist it under a different item number and raise the shipping price and bid price with the auto bods so they can get a higher price for the item
Answer: Well look at the salary of their CEO vs. The salary of the Salvation Army's CEO. That will tell you what kind of "non-profit" it is.
Answer: If buyer got to leave their personal experiences with this company, they wouldn't exist in a year. They aren't going to risk that. Only honest sellers want their information posted for everyone to see. So don't expect it from Goodwill.
Answer: If you aren't using paypal or a credit card, there isn't much recourse. With paypal, the seller has to prove you received the item. If they can't, you will get your money back.
