Sorry, Scribd, cancelled as soon as I learned about the limiting of regular e-books to 3. My understanding of contract law was that when two parties agree and money (consideration) is exchanged, one party can't go back on it. Apparently your company gets to change the rules with impunity! Terrible business ethics!
I was a customer almost from the beginning and enjoyed finding titles my Overdrive Library didn't carry. Guess I'll move on to Amazon (their business model works!).
Deceptive trade practices provide for annual renewal at then-current rate. No way to cancel once the plan automatically renews for 365 days at whatever rate Scribd extorts —nearly 30 percent for me. AI responds to disputes in an endless loop that never gets a human response. Phone customer service unavailable.
First off, I seem to be in the same boat as many other people here. I have never even heard of this site before yet on my past two credit card statements was charged $8.99 twice each month. I have absolutely no account with them and when I tried to contact them there is only an email. I would just like to talk on the phone with a person to be refunded. I also read other reviews on here and it seems they don't respond on emails so that is why I'm reviewing here. It seems that they are more worried about bad reviews rather than actual customer support so I'm hoping posting here will get my issue resolved.
Hi Morgan! Our Support Rep Katy replied to your ticket on Thursday requesting more information in order to locate the charges in our system. Once you send that requested information we can get started on resolving the issue. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Obvious scam. The kept charging for 6 months after canceling. I contacted credit card company to report fraud. They will likely reply to this post with a fake apology to make it appear as if they are correcting. EDIT: they are now claiming I have a "duplicate" account that is being charged, but the only other account I made with an email account I own was never completed (I clicked out of the browser without adding credit card details), so there is no credit card on file, and under Payment History it reads "You do not have an active Scribd membership. Join today to get access to books, audiobooks, documents and more!" This account therefore cannot be billed, and the company is playing dumb.
Hey John - please be aware, we are not able to charge the monthly subscription fee after you cancel. If you have ongoing charges, there has to be a duplicate account causing the charges. If you would like assistance from our customer care team, we can be reached via this link: https://scr.bi/assist otherwise, thank you for your time and have a great rest of your day -EC
I signed up for the free trial and wanted to cancel. They have no customer service number, communication is all by email, taking days between each correspondence. After providing 6 different verification items over 2+ months (where they continued to bill my card), I still had not received a refund. I called my credit card company and they reversed the charge in less than 5 minutes.
Thank you for writing out to us here, Jake. I am truly so sorry for the delay with support! Though we are currently experiencing a backlog in our tickets, we are doing our best to get back to our customers as quickly as possible. Additionally, though it sounds like your payments are now returned, we can still absolutely help you to find your account how we can. If you still require assistance, feel free to either update here with your ticket number or email us again using this link: https://scr.bi/assist so your ticket will be escalated to the front of my queue and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, thank you again for your comment here, and I am glad your bank was able to assist you. Have a great day!
Ended 30 day trial and now my account shows that i have no subscription. Yet im charged everything month. No email to reach out to staff. No customer service.
From the looks of it, many others are having this issue. Sure sounds like a scam. Then they'll blame it on a duplicate or fake account. How many such accounts can you have? Clearly your services are not secure then!
Thank you for letting us know and I am sorry you're having trouble contacting support! We will make sure your case is escalated. Please use this link to contact us: https://scr.bi/assist and your ticket will be forwarded to the top of our queue where one of our agents can help you ASAP - EC
I am not impressed with the change to their business model/subscription service. This service is no longer an attractive choice nor is it a bargain for my $9.00 per month. I'll go back to Overdrive and Amazon Prime.
Stay AWAY. They steal your money even if you cancelled your free membership. When I realized that my bank account was charged I Immediately went to cancel the membership. But guess what. I cant! Becuase "Google sign in failed" message in my screen. LOL, you guys are good scammers. Well done! Now wait for my $#*!ing lawsuit cause Im not kidding here. Oh and also, OBVIOUSLY, they dont send you invoice of your consented payments lol
Thank you for bringing this to our attention - we cannot charge someone after they cancel their subscription, so there is likely a duplicate account causing your charges. That said, no worries! We're here to assist you. To get in touch, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will help you out. Thanks! -EC
This "business" must be a scam. I have tried tirelessly to get in touch with someone to cancel my account (I only signed up for the free trial, and cancelled after that) but continuously receive emails back that state that there are no real humans monitoring emails. Upon asking for support or a link to support through social media, I have been sent a link to the website. Once on the website, I need to log in before I can submit my request for cancellation/refund. When I try to log in, they tell me there is no account associated with my email address. If I don't have an account, why am I being charged $8.99 a month for the past year?! I am at my wit's end with this.
Hey Carly, we're sorry for the frustrating experience. While we don't monitor Facebook messages, we do have a support team available for assistance which can be found on the Scribd website and the app. Please visit this link here https://scr.bi/assist -- This link will escalate you to a department that can help you as soon as possible. -AR
What the $#*! am I even supposed to do? Wait until next month to see if the cancellation worked only to be $#*!ing charged again? Changing my goddamn credit card information completely because of this $#*! alone.
Hi there! A member of our support team can definitely look into this for you. Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
Taking my money 8.99$ a month form my credit card; even though I cancelled membership trial before 30 days. I have continued unsubscribe for at least 3 times, went to bank 5 times still can not solve the issue. Tomorrow, I will contact business bureau office for help.
Hi Michael - I'm so sorry to hear about your unexpected charges; most likely you have an alternate account with us that wasn't canceled. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll be happy to locate the account and issue a refund. Thank you!
Hey, two months before i take a free trial of 30 days, i gave my credit card number. Now after every month a transaction for Rs. 583 had been done without giving any notification from your side, what the hell is this, i want it to rectify as soon as possible, and refund my money since i am not using your any of your applications. Thank you.
Hi Nilesh. We have sent you an email last week for further information to locate your account. Please make sure to reply to our email with requested information. Thank you. -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I cancelled the subscription of my free trial 3 days before the end. And guess what, scribd is still charging me! Their free trial seems to look like a scam definitely. An unfair, dishonest app. Customers, beware!
Refund my money! Request #*******
Hi Vandana- Niall has responded to your ticket today and has issued a refund. Thank you!
Like others, I'm at wits end. I've never heard of scribd, and they've now been billing me $8.99 every month for over a year. I tried to sign on to scribd to do account management and I have an active account (email & password), but the site tells me that I have NO active subscriptions. It does note that billing could come from iTunes. Upon checking iTunes, I have no subscriptions there either. I emailed them, they promise response with 24 hours, but no word in 17 days, despite 2 follow ups by me. They don't answer their phones, but have a message directing you to their site for "support". What a scam! Can anyone start a class action?
Hi Chris, I'm glad we were able to get this resolved for you via your support ticket. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I published online for many years a pdf on woodworking. My website has now closed, so I don't mind when (free) copies turn up on other sites - that's why it was written, and I'm happy to regard it as now in the public domain. I DO object to rogues like Scribd (with a history of actions against them for copyright abuse) charging people to view it.
Hi John - I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations with this. Your documents were most likely uploaded by a third-party user, so they are accessible for free to all users. If you'd like them removed, please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll be happy to help!
Very misleading. Too many titles become unavailable once you start listening or reading them. You can only access them the day after your subscription renews. Awful. Why am I even paying for a subscription if it doesn't grant me access to anything?
We apologize for any confusion with your Scribd membership. You'll notice the catalog rotate as you read. While some titles may not be immediately available, you will never be limited on the number of books you can read! Please feel free to email us at help@scribd.com with any questions or concerns, our support team is more than happy to assist you. Thanks!
I have tried multiple times to cancel my account. They keep charging my card regardless of the fact that I clearly do not use their service. I used it once in my free trial late last year. It is now may and they keep charging me. Despite trying to cancel multiple times. The most recent communication was three days ago when they promised to cancel and refund me but when i look at my account it says they plan to charge me again in June. Terrible business model and very shady in my opinion that it is so hard to cancel. Highly not recommended
Hi Lou, we're so sorry for any inconvenience or frustration this might have caused you! Since we cannot bill a canceled subscription, it does seem the charges are coming from unsuccessful cancellation, but we can definitely assist with this. Please reach out to us through this link http://bit.ly/social-support-help and update your review with the ticket # that you receive so we can follow up with you right away. Thank you! -MW
Hard to know where to start. Crashes repeatedly, can't actually synch between devices most of the time, sometimes can't access books in my library. Today takes the cake: the point of downloading to my device is to be able to read where there is no internet. I am without internet, Scribd suddenly decides my downloaded books have never been downloaded and are not available. It was a long 2 hours staring at a wall with nothing to read. The moment I'm home, everything is Ok again. I really hate these people. Checking into other services.
Hi Susan! I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you've had with the app. Our Support team is always here to help with troubleshooting any issues you may be experiencing. Just send us an email to help@scribd.com. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
This company has been charging my credit card even though I have cancelled with them for over a year now. I cannot speak to anyone there because their customer service is mostly automatic/robots and they do not provide a customer service number. I have sent four emails in the last two days in another effort to fix this situation and even though I get an automated email confirmation saying they have received my question/concern/etc. They mark the question/concern/etc. As "solved" without fixing anything. Definitely steer clear of this company's free trial or signing up with them. If they respond to my email and refund my account, I am happy to update on here.
Hi Christy, we're sorry for the frustrating experience here and any confusion it's caused. Our system automatically merges duplicate tickets in order to lessen confusion among agents and customers alike -- this would be why you're seeing some marked as "resolved" or "closed" without a response.
To clarify, we are unable to bill a canceled or deactivated account, so it looks like these charges were due to there being an active account. When canceling your subscription with us, you will immediately receive a confirmation email of the cancellation to your primary email address on file. If you did not receive this confirmation email from us -- then the subscription cancellation was not completed successfully. We go over this in detail in our cancellation guide, found here: https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134046-How-to-cancel-your-premium-membership
With all of this being said, it looks like a specialist was able to assist you in resolving this in your primary support ticket, under the number #2688990. They've provided a refund in accordance with our Refund Policy, as well as an additional refund as a courtesy. We are unable to provide any further refunds due to the age of the transactions and restrictions from our payment processor. Please allow 3-5 business days for these funds to be credited back to you. Thanks for your patience and understanding here!
Even after I "paused" my subscription they keep on charging. That's another £10.99 that's gone from my account today. I'm concerned that even now I've fully cancelled, they will keep on helping themselves. As far as I can see there is no usable customer support - certainly not an email address to which you can send a complaint. I'll have to go to my bank and try and cut them off that way. Really annoying and time I could spend doing something useful.
Thank you for reaching out about this -- We're sorry for the confusion here regarding the "Pause" feature! Our pause feature is not intended for long-term use, so you can pause for a maximum of roughly 3 months, and should generally be used sparingly. We will not charge you while your subscription is paused. We built this feature for folks who (for whatever reason) may not need their Scribd subscription for short durations, but also do not want to fully cancel during that time either. If you "End" your membership, we ensure it remains active until the end of the current month that you've paid for, but will not bill you again after your subscription expires and your membership ends completely. Once your subscription fully expires, you will no longer have access to our premium membership content libraries. If you're having a hard time finding where to reach us for help, you can click this link here and someone will be able to respond within 24 hours: https://scr.bi/assist -AR
