I'm very dissapointed 'cause these guys charged me for a whole year all of a sudden. I asked for a refund (which is strange for something I never bought) and they asked me to give away my card number, a copy of the transaction from my bank and a copy of the email from when I signed up. This information should be in their system already. I want my money back asap, please!
I have emailed twice and have not even gotten a response! They have been charging me without my knowledge and I don't even have an account with them! No one from the company has gotten back to me is there a way I can get ahold of customer service? Someone please help, this is crazy and does not seem legal!

Hey, i'm just a little skeptical and frustrated because you guys charged me for an unauthorized payment and didn't give me a notice about it, i only just found out about it today when i sifted through my scribd emails to check when my free trial was ending only to find out you guys had taken my money without atleast notifying me a few days before of my membership ending. I want to receive help asap because i need my money to pay for ACTUAL necessities. Ticket #*******. I'd like it escalated.

I had signed up for a free trial and then $3.99 per month offer. After the free trial ended my account was charged $87.00. I emailed and have received no response. I'm going to have to go through my credit union and dispute the charge and then cancel my debit card. This is ridiculous. I need my money
Hi Jayla! I'm so glad we were able to resolve this issue and get that charge refunded for you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via support@scribd.com. Thanks again! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Service
If you are a creator of any content, scribd allows anybody to post it, and profits from it without any right to do so. Then the author and copyright holder, has to chase down each link and try to get it removed from the website. Years of work shamelessly stolen from thousands of creators. That's what scribd is...
Hi Robert - We apologize for any confusion here, and we'd be happy to provide some clarification.

I have never ever signed up with this company and never bought books from it and some how they charged $ 188.22 from my account in New Zealand...
This is a scam company... if I could, I would give 0 stars...

Required document was incomplete and outdated. Despite 30 day free subscription the $8.99 charge was made immediately to credit card. Steps to cancel subscription requires repeated input to stop subscription with no real assurance the subscription has been indeed cancelled. It was a mistake to connect with this service.
Hi there, That sounds like the verification transaction that is explained in the confirmation email you received upon sign up. It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! Our support team can confirm this for you, as well as your cancelation, if you could send us an email to help@scribd.com with your account email address. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I canceled my subscription the same day, during the "free" trial. Yet, I was charged for two months later on until I saw the charges and disputed them with Paypal. Their website showed no active membership nor did it show me that my membership ever existed (the history of membership, cancellation date or any transactions was conveniently empty). Thus, I had not active membership, no history of charges and yet I was regularly charged. That's fraudulent and unethical. Their support manager never admitted to the mistake and insisted that I never cancelled my subscription, despite the fact that my account showed no active subscription and no past subscriptions. Crooks.
Hi Ana,
We are sorry to hear there was some confusion regarding the cancellation process. We can assure you that once an account is canceled, we are unable to bill your account going forward. If you were still being billed, it is due to the subscription cancellation not being completed properly.
After further review, it looks like you have already spoken to our billing specialist team. We are always happy to help with any refund request as long as it falls within our refund policy however as our team stated, due to the dispute that was filed with your bank, we are unable to process any refunds for it.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause however, should you have any further questions regarding the dispute filed, please contact PayPal directly. Thank you. - MR
Avoid at all costs. Cancelled my membership at end of trial. Payments were taken nonetheless, only stopping when my credit card happened to have expired! Somehow payments were taken even after this (when I activated my new credit card), and this despite me having sent an angry email to them when I discovered the initial payments, to which I received no response.
Hi Tom. We are still waiting for your response for additional information to locate your account. Please check your email and response with requested information. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I loved the Netflix type format. Pay a subscription, get unlimited books.
Until now.
Now I get 2 books (credits), and I have to pay for anything after that.
So now it's like Audible. I'm giving 2 instead of 1 stars because the books are still cheaper than Audible's.
I have never heard of this company and keep getting chargesome on my credit card for $8.99. Not once, but multiple charges in this amount. My credit card company would flag them as suspicious, reissue me a new card with a new card number but somehow they get my new number and recharge my card. I suspect they have some kind of mining software that collects credit card numbers and charges them hoping the owner doesn't check their statement. This company is a complete SCAM.
Hi Cynthia! We've just replied to your support ticket requesting more information in order to locate the charges in our system. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I've been trying to contact Scribd for about a month now about charges that have dated back to 2014. It's my fault for just noticing, but I assumed once I canceled my account that the charges would stop. I was wrong and I'm paying for it now (literally). When I first complained, they refunded my account $8.99. Three days later, they charged me again. When I tried to get in contact with them again about the charges, they ignored me. Still waiting to hear back.
Hi Emma, Our support manager has replied to your ticket with your refund information. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I subscribed to a $47.99 membership August 31, I cancelled in the same day and haven't received any refunds or emails back. My help desk requests say "solved", but what does that mean? I sent multiple emails and no replies back. I want my $47.99 back.bi wouldn't recommend scribd to no one. This is ridiculous.
Hi Jaylynn, I'm so glad to see that this has been resolved by my colleague April. If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to us at help@scribd.com. Thanks again! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I was online researching on certain information and bumped into the Scribd website. It touted 30-day free subscription so I thought I would give it a try to see what I could find. However, immediately after signing up the account, my credit card got charged the monthly fee of $8.99. When I used the customer service to send an email to complain, I received a response stating that a customer service person would get back to me in 6 business hours. It has been more than 3 business days and nothing has happened. Yesterday, I went to my account to cancel the account. Not only that it took me quite some efforts to find the way the effectuate cancellation of the account, but also, after the cancellation being acknowledged on the record, I was not able to unsubscribe the advertisement email. It would keep stating that I had to cancel the account before I could unsubscribe. What a shame business operation!
Hi Yee-Horn! We've replied to your ticket #1188616 with information about that verification transaction. Thanks so much! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I used Scribd last August and canceled within the trial period - or so I thought. I was going to sign up again today, and got a message that my payment can't be processed bc my card expired last month. I looked in my account and I have been getting charged for the past 7 months.

Scribd is a TERRIBLE company. I downloaded just one document back in january and I thought I would only be charged $10, but they charged me each month totalling to $60 and they will not refund the extra charges even though it was clear that "recurring monthly member" was very fine print that I did not see and considering that I didn't make any more downloads after that. It's clear that nobody would intentionally pay each month for a service they don't use. Scribd should respect their customers and do what's right and fair, not being a thief like they are now.
They said they would send an email before the trial ended and did not. When I tried to get on to the site to cancel, I could not get on the site and had to call my bank to stop future payment. I will be watching closely for future unauthorized charges.
We apologize if you did not receive a notification email and our support team is available to help with cancelations and refunds. To email us directly, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will assist you within 24 hours -EC
I signed up for a free trial. I canceled my free trial the SAME DAY because everything worth reading was listed as "Available On Placeholder Date". Additionally, the book preview was UNREADABLE as the text all runs together. What good is a book service that doesn't have content and is illegible? So I canceled my account and never returned after never reading anything.
I got charged anyway! I put in a support ticket. They never replied to my support ticket. Guess what? They deleted my account instead! Never notified me they were deleting my account. Just took my money and ran. Luckily I used an American Express who already gave me my $9 back and will be blocking future charges.
Attached Photos:
1) Illegible Text
2) Trying to sign up, told my account exists. Entering my password via password manager, told no account found. Using login I was told "no account exists" either.

It tells you you can download as many titles as you like but then it decides that no, it only wants you to have access to some of them in full and you have to wait a month to access what they then deem you can. Ridiculous. Also, you can't keep the books you've downloaded. Rubbish. I'm told someone also received spam. And be careful when cancelling as they make you jump through many many hoops. Stay away.
Hi Vivien, we'd like to get more detail on the difficulties you've experienced with your titles and the cancelation process with us so we can try to help clarify a few things, as well as confirm that your account has been canceled. I unfortunately have not been paying enough attention to my credit card statements. Now that I have I see that for at least the last 6 months this company has been charging me $8.99 a month. I had never heard of this company until I found the changes. And I have absolutely no recollection of ever signing up for any type of service. Now it is impossible to contact them to make certain this reoccurring charge stops. There is no phone number for customer service. Everything is email. I emailed and have yet to hear back. I want a phone number to speak to a human being and I want a refund of all monies taken without my consent. I agree 100% with the other reviews - this website site is a fraud. I'd tell you to avoid it at all costs but apparently that doesn't even work as I had never visited it and they have taken money from me for six months. Something needs done to stop this

Scribd has a rating of 1.1 stars from 881 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Scribd most frequently mention free trial, credit card and customer service. Scribd ranks 188th among Ebook sites.
Hi Hanna, we apologize for any confusion here. To confirm, we will NEVER ask for your full card information when attempting to locate charges. The only information requested if the subscription is not found outright through the email address you've contacted us on is the last 4 digits of your payment method (suffix) and the expiration date of the card. This allows us to narrow down the results within our payment processor as we have over one million subscribers and have to search manually in order to locate charges.
With that being said, we are more than happy to take a closer look at your case and get it escalated so we can make sure you're taken care of. Please update your review with your ticket number so we can locate you first. Thanks! -VG
