“Great service from Symantec”

Robert B.
9/15/15

Norton Safe Web is a new reputation service from Symantec. Their servers analyze Web sites to see how they will affect you and your computer. Also, using the Norton Toolbar installed on your PC, they let you know how safe a particular Web site might be before you view it. If you need to find out more about how a Web site might behave, they provide more detailed information on Norton Safe Web. I have used this service for many years, and it works.

“Abysmal experience of getting whitelisted”

R T.
3/8/20

Four days ago, my website was blacklisted although rated safe by google and all other web safety services. Blog is hosted on website and verified safe. Cannot add code. Have contacted customer service 3 times and written to CEO and President. No response, no action. They are "working on it." Meanwhile, I've started getting questions from people trying to access site. Makes no difference that I have been 25 year customer. Appalling.

Disabled this after a couple of weeks. Drove me mad that when you searched you got a load of adverts first, even for things which are not tradeable! And were results from the USA even though I had set my territory as UK. I only downloaded as my broadband providers BT now use them as your "free" internet security. Avoid!

Tip for consumers:
Ads will drive you mad when you search for anything. Use Google.

If you're having problems with Norton flagging your website as suspicious, it is because it uses HTTP not HTTPS security. You need to buy a security certificate from any seller and then have someone switch over your website.

It cost me $20 for the certificate and $85 for someone to do the work on Upwork. No more problems and no way to get around it. All browsers are looking for this added layer of protection now.

My website was suddenly flagged as suspicious. I spent two hours on chat trying to find out what the "annoyance", not threat, was that caused the flag. I was told their engineers would need 2-3 weeks to review it, given a case number with no place to check it, and cannot use my site properly.

Absolutely horrible service and unacceptable practices. These flags mean nothing!

I have multiple websites this useless feature rated as dangerous. All those websites 100% clean and secure. Every other expert tools verifies correctly. Most funniest one is one of the we page which has blank index. Html also rated as "known dangerous website"

I have disputed all these wrong rating more than 10 times in last 1 year. Nothing has changed. So this is definitely useless wrong tool to use.

Randomly decides that sites rated otherwise safe (eg by Google), I contacted Norton as I could not find an option to add sites to an exclusion list to be advised by Norton customer service that there is no exclusion list and the ONLY solution is to remove safeweb from the browser.

Also the "continue to site" link would not work, Norton customer service only response to that was 'you shouldn't be visiting these sites'.

This is a rip-off company. Had an agent address me as dear $#*! when I asked why pink was disconnected. The service sucked as I cancelled 30 days later. Several better company's that have much better customer service and quality of product. Norton has been left behind by their rude agents.

Norton denied my review and my doctor's office is unsafe. I am so glad I cancelled my subscription effective this November. Avoid Norton.

To start, the search is far too slow. Loading pages is far too slow as well. The platform does not have nearly as many features as other search engines, e.g. maps. It displays warnings and blocks me trying to access webpages that I frequent often and know that are safe. There are literally dozens of ads before you see any search engine results. It stores search results and page visits and then bombards you with ads from these pages or to but the same product that you have already purchased. It has put me off being a Norton 360 Customer.

This software is atrocious. First, it fills your computer with junk to try and force you to buy additional products, which are very expensive. My computer actually got a malware that Norton could not remove, but Windows Defender offline scan did.

This product is ultimately useless and it ruined this laptop. By the time my "Subscription" ends...(ugh...be sure and cancel that or don't buy at all)...I will need another computer and I will never download and pay for this useless garbage that probably PUTS viruses on your computer, again.

AND>>>>>> I DONT CARE IF MY INFORMATION IS ON SOME DARK WEB OR INTERNET SOMETHING...ISN'T EVERYONE'S NOW...? YES, IT IS...

I've gotten a number of warnings that the pages I was trying to visit were a "known dangerous webpage". All the pages that I got this warning on are either companies I trust and have done business with, or links supplied by those companies (e.g. To surveys). I have a hard time believing this many legitimate businesses somehow have malware or are doing business with companies that have malware, plus none of my other malware detection software ever identifies a threat with them. So I decided to see how many complaints there are of Norton false positives - as it turns out, A LOT. Not just a lot of false positives, but a lot of people complaining about how hard it is for them, once their company has been tagged by Norton, to get any kind of response to get untagged. Seems like not only are these pages not actually "known" (only "suspected", and wrongly suspected, at that) to be "dangerous", but Norton is screwing with legitimate businesses by scaring away their customers (albeit probably out of incompetence rather than malice.)

Just downloaded it and then printed various documents. Printed on each page of the document was "Thank you for using Norton Safe Web! Share usage etc etc" The 3 line message was too high to show on the web page so didn't see it. After I noticed it I could not scroll higher to show the full message and delete. 60 pages wasted. My next step was to delete the extension.

Norton is the only security service blocking my website and even though i went over the long and exhausting process of cleaning everything they listed for cleaning, installing Norton file in the root of my webpage, installing the security certificate and waiting for a few weeks for the verification, without any feedback from Norton, it is still reporting that the website is not safe and scaring 1 of my visitors that is using Norton security.
It looks like a sadistic joke, creating an issue with absolutely no reason. My website is a architecture portfolio website built with WordPress template and it carries no threat what so ever for nobody.

NO WAY does this clinic have an unsafe site, so I turned OFF Norton "safe search!" I had MANY health problems to research and I NEVER got many answers with NORTON "safe search!" Just about EVERY LEGIT SITE determined to be "unsafe" by NORTON, I did not enter! I missed ALL the INFORMATION from bona fide sites that were CONDEMNED by using "NORTON's safe search," which indicated that LEGITIMATE sites I tried to search were DEEMED "unsafe" according to "NORTON." I HATE NORTON and am cancelling them completely! MY LIFE DEPENDED on INFORMATION that I NEEDED to make CRITICAL DECISIONS about MY HEALTH CARE (BEYOND "hungry-for-money surgeons"!) DO NOT TRUST NORTON! You will NEVER GET complete, accurate answers to YOUR RESEARCH when using Norton's safe search! I THINK this is CLOSE to a CRIME by Norton! But, I could be wrong...

Tip for consumers:
Norton's proclaimed "SAFE SEARCH" sucks! It cuts you off from MANY LEGITMATE sites by "indicating" the sites are "unsafe" and those sites ARE NOT deemed to be "unsafe" once you remove Norton's "safe search!"

An overall good idea but Norton needs to keep up with all the websites that are bad and block them better because I use the DNS service.

Norton has blacklisted my site, but after numerous chats and calls will not tell me what caused it to be flagged. Some vague identity threat was all they will say, but I have no visitor input or comment areas--strictly an informational, one-way site. To add insult to injury they want me to put a piece of their code on my site. A security company that wants you contaminate your site, really?

Scans sites, flags them as 'unsafe' even though Google etc. does the same and says they are safe! Register the site with Norton and click on their report and it says there are no issues but it still shows as Unsafe... talk about Fake News! NOT IMPRESSED!

I don't know if this is not compatible with Macs or what but literally every time I boot up my system I get an annoying popup that says i need to install the system. When I try, it asks to reboot my computer. After re-booting, the same thing happens again. I'm going to try to uninstall it. What an annoying POS PITA!

I fix broken websites for a living. So when I remove and clean a site of malware or phishing etc, Google Safe Browsing, Phish tank, SiteAdvisor, Sucuri Malware Labs, SpamHaus DBL, Bitdefender and Yandex (via Sophos) all have great tools to de-list a site in a timely manner.

Norton Safe Web on the other hand is a night mare to deal with. Often weeks and months go by to no avail and their de-listing seems to go to a black hole.

I wish I could give it 0 stars, but 1 star is the minimum.

Norton Safe Web Plus is an annoyance which pops up and asks to be installed every time my Mac boots. When I installed it, it blocked all internet access. I had to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall ALL Symantec files to get my computer to work again. Do not let this program install on your Mac. Terrible.

They concocted this 'Safe Web' gimmick with the blessing of Google to force people to join them or else they will not put their green symbol on your website. This is just an angle to make more money by forced memberships. It is the most discriminatory stuff I have seen on the internet and Google allows it! I bet Google isn't letting Norton do this for free. If you are discriminated against by this 'safe web' scam, which is costing you 'clicks' on your website, you can do this. Write to your senators and congressman about getting a law to the effect that, 'No person or company shall place a marker on another person or company website, and any marker on there now shall be removed'.
