“Top radio show that networks with Reverbnation”

h j.
2/23/24

My name is Halshack! I'm NOT here to defend the company. It appears you folks have all had a terrible experience with the company. For that I'm terribly sorry. I don't WORK for the company nor am I under any kind of monetary arrangement. I was approached by Lou Plaia the original owner and co founder of the company back in Nov 2020 asking me if wanted to be a part of their opportunities network offering radio play for their membership. I have IN FACT done that but I'm very strict about who's allowed on the show. I come from a major label background as well as my partners so we look for only the most top quality talent. II take in about 1 to 3% sometimes more of who submits. Yes there is a canned letter that goes out to all that are denied that comes through the system. I get 1000 to 2000 submissions per campaign. Ive completed 8 successful campaigns through the company and have even scored a song from a band who did a collab with Eminem and one of his close friends Swifty Mcvay with Disaster Theory all worked on a track called Overcome. That was submitted to me under Reverbnation. Ive been working with the band to promote the track on my show and radio station on ZENO FM. I also scored a collab with Gabe Lopez and Belinda Carlisle with permission to promote their track California Blues. I can assure you folks the opportunities the company offers are real. Its whether that source they networked with to provide the service goes the full length to do a good job. I get hit with 1000 to 2000 submissions per campaign. I listen to EVERY SINGLE submission every campaign but your material has to be on par with top tier label bands from all years of history. I don't take in bands or artists who don't have a commercial viable potential regardless of the genre. If you're good at what you do you make my show. So when the time runs out on the campaigns the company generates the denial letter for each campaign for each network partner. When I go to accept, I click on each artist and send them an acceptance letter typed by me along with the canned company acceptance letter. The last campaign was about 1000 artists and I took in 37. About half of those were repeats. Ive worked with the company for 3 years now. My 9th campaign with the company starts on Feb 8th. You can find all information about me and our campaigns at Halshack.com. The last 3 years since the campaigns with the company Ive brought in 330 artists, bands, rappers and more to be promoted on my podcast, radio station, music blogs, contests social networks and much more. I cant speak for the company regarding their business practices but I can attest to the fact if you submit to my show under Bandlab or Reverbnation you may have a chance of being brought into the Halshack universe but I digress its a low probability you have that commercial potential success about you but its not out of question for anyone. We have helped 40 to 70 artists per campaign over the last 3 years. You can find me anywhere on social media or my website. I'm not here to hide or duck out. Halshack is real and a growing force in the industry. I email with the company on a regular basis but only with the people who handle the campaigns. The company was bought from Lou Plaia and the other owners about 2 years ago by Bandlab in Singapore. My contacts are very real people who are good hard working individuals. Again I cant speak to what happens on the financial side. I don't work for them. I just have a very strong very credible working relationship with their Opportunities program coordinator. They feed me lots of quality radio ready talent. And Ive built a successful show and radio station because of it. Now were building a local festival company here in NC for future starting at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro with the High Rock Promotions Nitro Notes Music Fest. We are bringing in many big names to help bolster all this indie talent that has been discovered through our efforts with Reverbnation. I hope this helps some people who have questions or concerns. Pay $9.95 a month for a couple of years now, never really received any from them, just notices to submit to major record label. I link my website, facebook, twitter, and CD Baby, what reverbnation gives you a place you can put a couple of your songs from your CD on it, a place for people to hear the whole song, and if they want to buy it they can, recomend you put your CD on tunecore, or CD baby, then connect it to reverbnation, put a couple of songs on it, and a couple of videos from youtube, also connect your website to it, the bad thing is there's so many people on it, all the offer they give you, can be taken up, fast, and your left out in the cold, i stopped expecting anything from them, just use them for what i can, what i do is when i get an offer from a major record lable, i use it for my benefit, and link it to my facebook, and twitter

Tip for consumers:
use it for your benefit

I have recently put in numerous requests to have songs removed and they mistakely removed 1 song i made a mistake to be removed, figured out the songs i needed to be removed and requested them multiple times and also apologized twice for my mistake as it was a genuine mistake due being frustrated to the fact my personal online identity is tied to this person still as this person has caused many hardships in my life and i got away from them. Now asking for help to get these 2 songs removed only to keep getting my tickets closed with no valid reason. Im pretty frustrated with your company. If you need screen shots for proof please I will provide my inventory...

Tip for consumers:
Horrible Customer Service, was helped once with the mistake I made and never helped again. only closed continous tickets which is absolutely unprofessional.

I am writing this review because I like Reverbnation and would like to see it improve. The platform did undergo some improvements over the years but has now become stagnant in a format that is probably the least beneficial to bands. #1 main problem is, as a social media site, it does not offer anything to non-musicians. The people that use Reverbnation are mostly bands, and scams. My band has been around a few years and has a nice size fan base but none of them have a Reverbnation account. The platform doesn't offer our fans any reason to join. #2 biggest problem is Reverbnation needs to send it's solicitations to someplace other than the mailbox. It needs to have its own separate notification box because the site sends too many solicitations. Bands eventually have no choice but to stop reading any and all mail. It takes up too much time to sort through the Reverbnation "special offers." In the past we would get messages from bands, venues, and twice from different TV shows that wanted us to perform. Now if they are messaging us it is being lost in the junk pile of messages from Reverbnation wanting us to pay them for something that will never benefit us. #3 biggest problem is the chart system on Reverbnation is easy to manipulate. In my area in my genre the top three bands are always the same and not one of them plays live. Not one of them has any real fans. My band's position goes from 30 up to 4 then back and forth all the time based on what we are doing in the real world. Somehow these three unheard of bands (that only exist on a laptop in a kids bedroom) stay in the top three spots on the charts for a few years now. Clearly not playing live offers this person more time to figure out how to game the system. Lastly, when Reverbnation started it seemed like a sincere project that wanted to help bands and make a profit in the process. At first we got gigs via Reverbnation and met bands with similar interests. Along the way they became focused on making as much money as possible. Now they straight up lie in their advertising saying things like "Artists launch careers here." I have got paying gigs off Reverbnation but not a single person has ever "launched a career," earning enough money to completely support their family via Reverbnation. This is just an empty promise used to get money out of kids.

Tip for consumers:
Fun social media but don't spend money on it.

Horrible service taking advantage of and money from musicians. Our 'free trial' wasn't free at all as we began to realize they were charging us monthly. They've taken hundreds of dollars from us for a 'free' service we barely even used. When we wrote in about it they disabled and blocked our account so that we cannot see our billing history or any interactions. Since then they've answered no emails or phone calls from us. AVOID!

They will keep charging your credit card 2-3 times a month, won't send you notices so you'll forget all about it.

I signed up for their SONG PROMOTION service and after 40 weeks got very little results.

4,709

2,910 Ad clicks
1,796 Song plays
3 Other actions

In my opinion, Reverbnation's SONG PROMOTION SERVICE did not deliver good results. Their rebilling practices are in my view, sneaky. They should send you a monthly email giving results and rebill notices.

I really can't imagine that superstars like Imagine Dragons for example should also be present at ReverbNation (ok, I hope the guys quickly realized what frauds the Reverbnation holding are).
That was just a fake claim by ReverbNation, a very miserable marketing trick to lure unsuspecting musicians.
Otherwise, as many previous posters told again and again, I must unfortunately confirm, one is ripped off at ReverbNation as a musician only, false statistics are added. Promotion for musicians at ReverbNation? A lie, they do nothing for us. Except take our money. I'm done with ReverbNation, I don't want to deal with scammers like them any longer and I don't want to be annoyed anymore.

"Congratulations! Your music has been selected for (insert latest scam). For only $19.99, you will be CONSIDERED for blah blah blah". Please folks, don't do it. While I still have an account, I have not ONCE submitted to one of these scams, but I know some folks who have. I am constantly bombarded with this garbage. While it may be an ok site for exposure (and I mean just maybe, ok), they are only looking to bleed any penny away from every unsuspecting artist that they can. Steer clear, and gain exposure the old fashioned way. These guys are vultures with THEIR best interest in mind.

My overall opinion of RN remains about the same - they host my website - the Site Builder templates are simple but not elegant. But there is not much detail furnished from them (or anywhere) about their marketing model - which I actually didn't understand as I implied in my first review. So. From personal experience I've noted a few observations - both general and related to marketing. I've used most of their distribution offerings - including:
1) Fan Reach - the best utility offered. If (the key word) you have acquired lists - from RN subscriptions, and/or the various social media outlets (RN/SoundCloud/FaceBook/Twitter. Ect) - these my info/song distribution points. There are many others but if these don't deliver some result - then alternatives have to very competitive. Fan Reach is basically a distribution client that allows an artist to contact any subscriber on the lists mentioned. If you have 5 RN email subscribers - you can compose an email "Hi - I''m Me!", "Dig My New Song!", "I'm Back - and Cookin'" - that sort of message and RN has a template that composes the message in an acceptable format then mails your 5 emails out. There are options to also send the same to FaceBook and any other media with a list of your subscribers. OK. This is an essential service that works fine.
2) Promotion Campaigns - where a song is promoted to music sties for a weekly fee. It is not well-defined what a 'music site' is - but I would expect music blog, personal music list sharing and such. I would not expect any pay services or radio streaming sites - but it is not clear. The fee varies depending on the number of distro sites used by RN - which suggests the size of the targeted streaming audience you want to reach. Once a campaign is started - statistics are provided - as an example of a 1-week campaign: total number of Ad Views - 9745, number of websites with Ads - 2115, number of Fan Interactions - 344. For only $21.00. But, the total number of Interactions can mean someone liked your cover photo, your artist or song name. But not that the song has been sampled or played. As a result the campaign may not contribute much to your RN fanbase or song plays at all. This is the chance you take - I usually gain a few of each - but I always choose to spend about 20.00/week for a week of two max when I finish writing a new song that I would like to measure the response to. Campaign stat
3) Single Song Promotions - RN has offers to promote a single song based on some internal criteria - and for 15.00-20.00/offer you will be promoted on either a 'local' list - like Phoenix, AZ or more general list (unknown distro extent) - for 35.00/wk - which I have just tried and will review the results when time permits.
4) Crowd Reviews - do not affect your statistics at all. They are a list of individuals answers to a review after listening to your submitted song. There may a reward consisting of a one-time spot on the RN Homepage. The criteria is having an average review of 7.5 out of 10. It is an interesting exercise to personal opinions - though it would be very helpful to know how the reviewer panel is selected - randomly, of course - but from RN members - a volunteer/paid reviewer list? The song I submitted fell far short of the 7.5 milestone required for the 'reward' - which consists of a snapshot link in a list of 6 on page 4 on RN Homepage. The statistics provided are interesting and well-formatted. But without achieving/exceeding the required review value, of little use for promotional strategy use.

As most RN members know - your receive a lot of 'Opportunities' that you can 'Reach 3 million fans' or win an 'Exclusive Interview'. I have had no luck when entering these 'contests'. Most are judged by RN then the contest promoter - presumably by RN first. But I would be curious if there is any bias introduced from RN first judging a song that perhaps they have already rejected once - a question that I will ask the folks at RN soon. If I were them, I would sell the contest win for a fair fee - it's just business.

Another aspect of the RN fanbase. Since it is a forum used by artists - it is also almost exclusively composed of artists. I often notice that when reviewing someones songs to compose a comment (always 4-5 songs - or a whole list if it is not too long - and some prolific artists may have over 100 songs to choose from), there are other commentors with whom I've recently communicated - that tends to imply that RN is a small, genre-connected world. It should be noted that artists do not often purchase each others songs. However to have your talent recognized and commented on by other artists, who themselves are often talented, is personally very gratifying. And those who actually take the time to listen to your material - the essential reason most of us create music - is the main reason that number of song plays is more important than size of fanbase to me.

Maybe in the past they had bad staff. But I can only talk from my experience. My name is MainChorusMaine. If you're a musician who works everyday on making your last song better than your last song, than Reverbnation does share your passion and will work with you in getting your passion shared around the world. If you pay the money. Below are my song Reviews. As you see my Bad comments look real but my good comments are obviously Fake. I appreciate them pushing me in front of their app, platform, and even when I look up my name on Google, I find my content and so forth. But if they going to lie to me and say they giving me false promises, well, I rather not use them.

RN is a great site for musicians and provides you with a lot of useful tools. I´ve never experienced any inconveniences, it´s a great service and it works well even if don´t pay a single dime. Also, great customers service, fast, helpful and reliable.

A lot of people who are reviewing this site should think about themselves. RN never promise a stream boost or guaranteed response/placement/success when you pay for some pitichng (and if they do promise that, they will fullfill the promise). Music is a ruthless business and it takes a lot of time and effort to achieve something. ReverbNation can help you with that, but there´s no guarantee in it.

I´ve read a lot of negative reviews on RN because people got bad score in Crowd Review... I mean, how nonsense is that? RN is not writing those reviews by itself - people write it. And so if you got a bad score, you can´t blame the service provider! You can´t even blame the people, you only can blame yourself for making a song that people doesn´t really like and either try to impove it or move on.

People should realise that RN does everything that is promised, they don´t scam aynone! I would recommend this site to anyone, even if you don´t wanna spend any money, you have a nice opportunity to create your artists profile for free and to build up your fan base. With very cheap Crowd Review service and tens and houndreds of opportunities, cheap premium plan and more, this is one of the best sites for musicians.

Reverbnation's only usefulness is as a site where you can host songs in order to share them. I noticed very early that if you submitted songs to their "opportunities" that you got the identical rejection letter regardless of whom you submitted it to. If you send them money, your name will go up their area charts and when you don't it will go down. I entered mine in an area with zero other singer songwriters and remain #1! Ha ha!

I'm DJ transaction. Currently ranked #1 on reverbnation Brooklyn electronic music charts. I had a free account with them for like 8 years. I never had to pay my way to the top. I made top ten multiple times and got song plays without trying. I don't think this site is as bad as the reviews below say because I really didn't have to pay my way to the top and I got some opportunities here as well. I'm not paid to say any of this stuff. I perfer SoundCloud anyway but it's a nice site.

Just a thought, but one's experience with Reverbnation is SOLELY based on the intentions and ambitions of the artist. I love playing and writing music so I post songs to get feedback, give feedback, and discover new music. Yes, I understand a lot of the "fans" who clicked didn't like the first 10 seconds and moved on or those moving from artist to artist hoping to get more clicks on their page. I simply post my music for anybody who will genuinely listen to it and appreciate it (which from my experience is a small percentage). However, it makes it that much more gratifying when someone listens to my songs and gives helpful feedback or criticism. If you are utilizing the platform in hopes of a record deal or international super-stardom, then you are likely naive. If you think you have a chance of going to the top, you shouldn't need promoters and advertisements. It should be grassroots and blowing people away with your recordings and gigs... you can't be hostile toward the site for advertising a product that has worked for a portion of the artists on the page (regardless of the percentage) because that's literally what advertising is... It does NOT work for everybody. I've been enjoying the site for a few years now and have never been charged a penny and have made some cool, interesting connections I wouldn't have made otherwise.
-Cheers!

ReverbNation was charging us for a service for several years and we did not receive a single invoice or email. We discovered this and they are not refunding us the hundreds of dollars we put out and they have blocked us from our own account; denying us access to the billing history. This is a serious violation. They won't respond to emails. Be very wary of this "service". If you look at web reviews you'll see this has happened to many people.

Want to manipulate your ranking? Spend some of your money there, or, like others, have a bot army play your tunes non-stop. What a scam. "Free promotion" is hogwash shell game. Worse yet are their "professionals" who "review" your music and gush about it. You can send them a turd and they'll give it a glowing "review" because you $pent to get it. Just fake crap designed to pry money from people with high hopes.
