Reading Plus is the digital equivalent of a torturous homework assignment that never ends. If you're seeking an educational tool that turns reading into an unbearable chore, congratulations, you've found it.
From the moment I logged in, I was met with a barrage of soulless, monotonous passages that sucked the joy out of reading faster than a vacuum cleaner on high power. The stories are dry, bland, and lack any real substance. Imagine reading a 2nd-grade textbook for hours, but without the fun of actually learning anything. The material is so uninspired that even the most avid readers would likely abandon their books for something else — even laundry.
As if the content wasn't bad enough, the interface is a nightmare. It's clunky, unintuitive, and feels like it was designed by a committee of robots who've never heard of user experience. Navigating through the app is frustrating, and the endless barrage of questions after every passage feels like a twisted version of school standardized testing. There's no time to reflect or actually absorb anything — just answer, click, move on, rinse and repeat.
The "progress tracker" is a cruel joke. Rather than celebrating small victories, you're bombarded with charts and graphs that make you feel like you're being judged on your every move. If you're behind schedule (which you will be), the app has this way of making you feel guilty, like you're failing some invisible teacher.
But the worst part? The reading comprehension tests that are inexplicably timed. You're given a limited amount of time to answer questions that are often vague, misleading, or downright confusing. If you make the mistake of thinking critically about the material, forget it — the clock is ticking, and if you don't spit out an answer within seconds, you're penalized.
In short, Reading Plus is the educational equivalent of having your will to learn slowly drained away by a system that is neither engaging nor remotely enjoyable. If you're a student, this will likely make you hate reading more than you ever have. If you're a parent or educator, you'll be disappointed in how little it actually teaches.
Avoid at all costs. If you want to foster a love of reading, this app is not the way to go. Instead, try literally anything else — even staring at a blank wall for hours would be a more productive use of time.
This website sucks to be honest because when a fiction story has a question that says "this story can be describe as", it should a fiction right, WRONG. In fact fiction story had one question like this and the answer was an informational text... LIKE BRUH, WHY ISN'T IT "a folktale" THIS WEBSITE SUCKS
I have to do it for school, and I actually makes me want to unalive myself. It's so annoying, and doesn't help me with anything at all except keeping my grade up in ELA.
It's not the worst site, but apparently, it calculated my G-Rate wrong, as it always tells me I'm going too fast. (I read it two times.) It also doesn't have a lot of books that sound interesting, either. They are pretty versatile for each student, though. The books are so boring though. I'm also reading books for level "H," but i'm currently level Z, so that makes no sense. Their website is also extremely ugly, but that's not really that big a problem for me.
TL; DR: Reading Plus isn't terrible, but not something to rave about.
1. Students should be able to choose something else to read even when starting a new story
2. Remove read last segment instead just make it reread story from the beginning and read where you were last because sometimes I read the last segment and then I'm really far behind
Please take these suggestions into consideration it would make the platform way better than it is now thank you.
Most of these reviews are left by littler kids who don't enjoy using the sight. I am a student and have used Read Plus for a few years, I don't enjoy it, but it does improve reading speed. It could use some changes and a better book selection but it does genuinely increase reading speed. But in making your speed increase it makes reading quite boring and makes me not want to do it anymore. If you want students to be interested in reading, I don't recommend it, but if you want them to read better or do better on tests then it's pretty good.
Tbh really fun! Not a bad program at all! Just one thing the scan progressively gets faster as you do it. So eventually you can't do it anymore cuz its moving about 200 words faster than for g/i rate. But if you ignore that and the ignorance on synonyms in the vocab part still pretty good
For those who want to learn something new, this is a must-do. Thanks a lot for your work. I enjoy it every time there is a possibility to do something.
Im not a big fan. I feel like the teachers are calling me stupid! I KNOW HOW TO SPELL AND READ! But i like it because it has some things i have interest in like soccer and stuff but i hate when i have 1 more reading plus to do but get put on hold because im skipping ahead its bc im on support mode i know ALL the answers! And then it tells me to speak with the teacher! AND THEN SHE DOES NOT REPLY UNTIL TMR AND THATS WHEN ITS DUE AND IM PUT ON HOLD RIGHT NOW AND IM SUPER SAD AND ITS A WASTE OF TIME DOING IT IF YOUR GONNA FAIL ALL THE LESSONS OR GET PUT ON HOLD DOING THE LAST ONE! This is why im always mad on sunday BC I GET PUT ON HOLD PLEASE FIX IT READING PLUS CMON! Pleasee anyways its a good app but i dont really like it. Its bewtween good and bad so its okay! Please fix this tho!
I can't assimilate the reasons for all of this hatred towards Reading Plus! Yes, it does augment the amount of homework (one) has to do.(I'm a 7th grader) However, the program itself promotes mental retention and efficient processing. Students might initially be incentivised to finish the lessons through temptations to play on Nintendo Switch, but, through a growth mindset, students must remember that the goal the program has for students is to SIMULTANEOUSLY read faster and comprehend more material. (That's where the retention comes in). Psychologically, the program wants to help people accommodate to faster reading rates, allowing the brain to quickly analyze and implement "mental reading tools."
UPDATE: I have noticed that the vocabulary lessons are a bit flawed. There can be multiple definitions to a word, but only 1 definition would be considered to be veracious. It is infuriating, since this website appears to help you memorize sesquipedalian terminology within a few minutes! I always want to enhance my terminology! Yes, I still think the website is great, but the flaws in the vocab. Lessons are a hindrance to my typically-growing exuberance when I learn new words!
I 200 pumped some kid and i got victory omg this game is so good also i cant believe halo stole master chief from fortnite! Pls fix that epic gams!
Listen i love it but in visual skills i comleted the lesson it told me to continue i did not need to continue it said complete so NO
Reading plus is apparently supposed to make you read faster. The G-rate made me only read slower overtime, and the questions for the story is more stupid than all the things going on in the world right now, the only good thing is the vocabulary. The vocabulary is boring but it's faster to do and there's tricks to bypass if you get a question wrong. YES, THERE ARE SOME FLAWS TO THE VOCAB, THERE ARE LITERALLY MULTIPLE DEFINITIONS FOR A WORD. READING PLUS IS BYFAR THE WORST THING SCHOOLS USE. IF I HAD TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST READING PLUS IS MORE BORING THAN DOING THE WHOLE HOUSE CHORES

Hi Lauren!
Thank you for sharing your concerns. I'm happy to know you feel the program is versatile, but would love to know what topics interest you those can be considered. We have lots of reading selections to choose as you level up in the program, and have added more this past year - hearing ideas from students is great!
