Then they decided that even though I had never posted on any forums, and had only 3 friends, I wasn't allowed to use their website anymore.
They promised that I would always have access to the patterns I had bought. I am not.
They won't let me download my patterns, or even try to get my photos and stash logs off the site.
The reason I am not allowed? I belong to a political party. Keep in mind that I have never posted to a forum. Ever.
Easy to navigate and endless projects, many free. I've been a member for years and support the owners in stamping down the haters.
Ravelry is a site for people to share their love of fiber arts. Pretty hard to do if some people are doxxing and harassing some of their members, and others are blowing up public boards with horrible slurs and gleefully posting "designs" promoting racism and intolerance.
I've been a member since the wild and crazy beta testing days, and I'll be with Ravelry until the day they pry my knitting needles from my cold, dead hands.
I'm not much of a political activist, but I support their policy decision and more to the point, the site is a lot nicer without those people there. Discussions of everything from pattern design to fiber content are so much lighter and peppier, now that we don't have people afraid to join the conversation.
Ravelry is and always will be the best platform for managing your patterns, yarns and needles. Yes, they're are forums, but some people seem to be unaware that one can use Ravelry without using the forums at all! Though, if you need help or advice there are many places where you can ask for and receive assistance. There are many forums where you can just talk about knitting and politics isn't allowed. Sure, there are areas where you can, if you do choose, discuss politics or any number of things in an reasonable adult manner.
ALL THEY SAID IS NO HATE SPEECH. They did not ban Trump supporters. They disallowed hate speech. So why are all these people so mad? Is it because they are planning to do some hate speech? Because if all y'all really want is to knit/crochet then why is all this upsetting you all so much? Just close your mouths, avoid the forums, and knit ffs.
For people who find Ravelry after all this mess fades away, do give it a chance. I think you'll like it. It's so much more than all of this current drama, I promise.
I have learned so much about fiber arts on Ravelry. It's a wonderful source of patterns, too. And I have learned to listen to and accept people no matter their color, gender, religion or political views. Thank you to Ravelery for taking a stand against racism and against threats to people that may disagree with your views.
I've been a member of Ravelry for 10 years. It has one of the best databases I've ever seen, and I work in academic libraries. It's comprehensive and easy to use. I also love the community. I am able to network with other fiber artists who are passionate about their work. Additionally, Ravelry's recent stand against white supremacy makes me proud to be part of the community.
I've spent my life knitting and crocheting as way to be productive while my disability kept me down. I also find it to be a source of peace and joy when I need to relax. Ravelry went out of their way to make it political, to apply hateful labels to over half of our country, and try to turn a beautiful hobby often used for charity, into a place of judgement, hate, and personal agendas.
The perfect example of a company using their customers as pawns to fund their personal agendas.
This site is the lifeblood of the knitting community. It has so many amazing contributors, the interface is seamless and well designed and the community of members is welcoming. They have made some political statements lately but they do so in the defence of those whose voice is not being heard. I stand with them and support them.
Ravelry is an awesome site to connect with other fibre artists, search for and purchase patterns from amazing designers, and see how the design you like looks on other people. You can ask for help and get tips and techniques, find out about new trends in knitting/crocheting and follow up and coming designers, and generally just hang out in the best place on the web. Also a great way to organize your stash and store patterns. Highly recommend.
I've been a member for a long long time, and Ravelry is a great resource run by people who stand behind what they believe.
Ravelry is an absolutely brilliant site that allows users to search, purchase, download, and store knitting and crochet patterns. The message boards/forums are filled with wonderful people who can help with just about everything. The site owners are generous, kind, and strive to create a warm and inviting community. A+++
It's a very easy to navigate website. There are so many resources available from yarn reviews and patterns to technique help.
I am disappointed in Ravelry. After ten years of membership I have deleted my account due to the hateful attitude embraced by the owners and a great many of the members.
I am also curious that earlier today there were more negative reviews of Ravelry on THIS site than there are now. I wonder how the National Science Foundation who has partially funded sitejabber would feel?
Ignore the recent influx of negative reviews by hate filled individuals. This site provides knitters and crocheters with a bounty of information. 5 stars isn't enough!
One of the best databases and websites I have had the pleasure to use! Forums are very helpful and I have learned a lot because members a graciously willing to share their time and knowledge.
Great place for all fiber arts! Patterns, great people, great site runners. Groups for many different interests, businesses and locations. Very inclusive.
If you love yarn, you will love Ravelry! Patterns, yarn database, forums and lots of information for beginners to advanced skill levels.
Ravelry combines the best of social media with an unparalleled database of knitting and crochet patterns.
Site owners are prompt to respond to issues, and frequently implement changes to improve functionality. The site is easy to navigate. If you want only patterns, the search function will allow you to find what you need without having to participate in the forums, and if you have questions about materials and techniques there is an enormous community of crafters who are happy to help.
Ravelry is by far the most comprehensive and user friendly database in existence. There are groups for every interest and the site owners are extraordinarily responsive to site issues/improvement suggestions. So many people are angry about the site not being what they want instead of appreciating it for what it is.
It's unbelievable. You support the president in any way? Then you are clearly a Nazi and hater and a white supremacist unworthy of Ravelry. It's a shame it's come to this, but it has. Fortunately, there are many other places to find good patterns.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
