Let's say you buy a $15 iTunes gift card. Your actual payment amount is $1.25. Wow great deal right? Well, maybe. Considering the bidding started at $. 01 and each bid raised the purchase price by $. 01 and each bid cost the bidders $. 60, the value of the item turned into $75 (. 6 x 125). Now you could have gotten lucky and placed the final bid for $. 60 and got it for $1.85 + $2 shipping = $3.85. Or if you got into a bidding war you could have lost money on it... or even worse you lost the bidding war and you are out many dollars with nothing to show for it. I was fortunate enough to win two $25 gift certificates. Getting them cost me a little over $50. I consider it a wash and learning experience and I'm done. Advice if you try it... don't spot bid. Decide you want something and go for it.

I think its a rigged, I too believe that there are bots or employees that bid on the items. I have been outbid by one bid on 4 different auctions. I have a few left from the beginners auction that I will blow on one last item and then I will erase the whole situation from my head. I have an office job and I sit here all day watching this site and after 2 weeks of watching it for appox. 6 hours a day I know this is obviously rigged.

I had to try it to see what it was exactly. It was a definate experience in total frustration. I was a sucker. Glad it was a $34 lesson. I will definately check out reviews on too good to be true ideas before jumping in.

Funny the only 'auctions' I won... were for more bids that ended up costing $2-3 for the transaction fees and bids. Hmmm...

This is nothing short of ridiculous. I keep reading all these reviews, and I can't help but think that they all just sound like they were written by children. The definition of an auction according to Webster's dictionary is: "1: a sale of property to the highest bidder." I have won multiple things on this website (including an Ipod Touch), so I know for a fact that people can win. Furthermore, just because they charge you for bidding DOES NOT mean that it is not an auction (refer to definition)... And it definitely does not make it a scam. They are a business, so yes, they are probably trying to make a boat load of money... but then again so is every other business in America. If you have qualms about capitalism, I would suggest moving to a new country.
Those are my thoughts, I'm going to go listen to my Ipod now.

Sometimes the bots do "win." I just saw one where the handle "payfullPRICE" placed between 1/3 to 1/2 of the 2 cent bids on a Kindle that went for $41.82. Every once in awhile "AtYourOwnRisk" would come in and bid instead of "payfullPRICE" for awhile. All of these were Bid-O-Matic bids. But since Quibids doesn't buy the merchandise in advance, they made money off of all the legitimate paid bids, and they are out nothing.

But, I don't think all items have bots. My wife accidently bid on a video game when I was showing her the site. We were the second bid and won.

This site is a scam
March 12, 2010

This site is a scam. Went through several auctions over an 8-hour period. The only thing I won was the free 25 bids for beginners. Interestingly enough, there were about 15 auctions that I was the only person who bid until the counter hit 1 and then each time 9-15 people (same names, but different auctions) joined in and only bid against my bids. If I didn't bid, the auction ended. Even for ridiculously stupid items, which I found quite interesting... Additionally, there are several names that bid non stop on numerous items. When you consider how many times these names bid at. 60 cents a bit you would have been spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. This site should be shut down.

I have no doubt that quibids has bots, of course the site says they dont. I watched one particular name bid hundreds of times on every electronic item, the bids alone cost more then some of the items, once each item was sufficiently run up the name would just go away, I watch it bid on 3 items at exactly the same time over and over. This one name bid thousands of times today and hasnt won a single item. That is most definately a bot.

I don't fault QuiBid for making money but many of their practices are suspect. After spending several hours observing various sites I found several irregularities. Some of them are:
- On going auction sites randomly briefly freeze at crucial times
- The autobid is a mystery. By design it can't be out bid until authorized bids are exhausted so bidding against them is throwing away money. And then there are generally several autos bidding against each other.
-The count down clock is erratic; it may skip, or linger on, a second, and then second for second is not equal to an actual second. Also three times I tried to place a bid at 3 seconds and the auction suddenly ended. Theoretically the clock should have reset to the beginning
-Many of the same people place multiple bids on multiple items. And I question if the auction results are manipulated.

All the previous reviews are correct and should be considered before registering. QuiBid, while it policies are questionable is in the business to make money and for our part we would do well to remember "a fool and his money are soon parted".

I bid on three of the same items. Paid $45.00 to buy some additional bids. I bid on 3 Kindle DX's. I bid 1 bid total on two of the kindles and was the sole bidder on both of them. The third kindle I activly bidded on for 2 hrs spending over 160 bids when suddenly the system says I cannot bid anymore because you can only win one Kindle every 30 days. It says this after I have been bidding for over 2 hours and wasted 160 bids. In the end I didn't win anything and they turned around and double billed me.

Some of you people are amazing. Sure, Quibids is making a boatload of cash through this business model, but that doesn't equal a scam. Just because they take in over $8,000 for a $1,500 laptop doesn't mean that they didn't do EXACTLY what they said they would (so it's not a scam, by definition).

Is it a waste of money and time? Sure, most of the time. If you win, great for you - I haven't been that lucky. However, their profit margins don't make it a scam. Morons here don't understand basic capitalism.

This site is a glorified retail selling site with a twist. I totally believe that most of the auctions are complete fabrications and they have people placing bids from their company to bump peoples bidding up. I went here to by an XBox 360 cause I was going to purchase one at retail anyway. Well after I used all my bids I ended up buying it at retail anyway, but from them.
Also It went to 00:00:00 on my screen then froze and glitched to 13 seconds with anouther person as the winner once and after that all of a sudden there were anouther 5 or so people bidding on the item I never seen before bidding and bidding hard.
Yep I would say a SCAM alright

It is quite clear that the positive reviews on this page came from quibids employees.
- First of, this is no eBay. When the single seller of all products is also the auctioneer who owns the web site and technology, this is a bad sign to say the least. The transactions are partial and prone to compromise to begin with.
- Secondly, you should NEVER pay for the right to put a bid on any auction.
- Third, being subject to "automatic auction extensions" that keeps happening until the product has no desirable value means that it is designed to have users fail or quit the bidding - but not before they paid fees for wasted bid attempts to the "auction house".
- Lastly, there is zero oversight when there is no real community of buyers and sellers and everyone is anonymous (partial names or usernames). Mix that with a seller that has the capability to anonymously outbid you because he owns the site and you get one incredible scam.
If you are the type of person who go for banner ads that said "congratulations! You won!" than this is for you.

This totally looks like a scam that puts out some vauge rulls on how bids cost into the finaly price of an item. They are quick to show how someone won a item for 6 dollars and then show you the savings of the street value of this item but they never show how many bids it took to get there and the underline profit they are making. They also claim that they do not have insider buying/bidding yet when questioned on a third party audit on there companies rules and practices they say that they have been working on getting a third party auditor but have had no luck in getting one yet. My own company gets auditited ever year internally and externally. We have a major audit from an outside company ever 3 years that go over daily rules/practices along with going over the yearly audits done to make sure they were done right. It only takes a week for the big audits and there are companies out their waiting for your call to request an audit so its not like your asking for the impossible. Scam Scam Scam and even if you want to consider it legal or gambling it still is not fair business practice and should be reviewed by the BBB and congress when they get done with the baseball steroid issue.

SCAM!
February 25, 2010

SCAM! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR BIDS ON AUCTION ITEMS. IN A REAL AUCTION, WHERE YOU ARE NOT THE WINNING BIDDER THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE. QUIBIDS.COM AND ANY SITE LIKE IT YOU WILL HAVE TO FORK OVER $0.60 AND UP FOR EVERY BID YOU MAKE, WIN OR LOSE. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT. IN THE LONG RUN YOU'LL END UP SPENDING MORE ON LOSING BIDS RATHER THAN BEING ON A LEGIT AUCTION SITE.

The major complaint I see with this company is that they make alot of money from each item... So? They're a business. That's what businesses do. I also see people citing the numbers, like the company selling a $1400 laptop for $8000. Again, it's not as though one person is spending $8000 to get the item, but the cost is spread out over many users.

As others have said, I see QuiBids as a gambling site... as entertainment. Whenever I bid on anything, I know that I could lose, and I'm OK with that. If you're not willing to risk any money, then don't bid... It's not that hard.

So far, I've gotten a $50 Target gift card for $5 (including one bid) and a copy of Assassins Creed II for $4 (including 2 bids). I also bid on a Subway gift card and ended up using the 'Buy It' now option, because I would have spent that much there anyway (there's a subway on the navy base here), so I have ended up with more value than I put into it...

Overall, I think it's an OK site to have fun at trying to win some stuff. I only bid on things I would pay retail price for anyway, so the worst thing for me, is that I pay retail price for something. Oh noes...

If people worked together and let everyone purchase something for insanely cheap, the company would not make as much money. The same items are always available, but people always fight instead of working together. For example, there is a macbook that is at penny bids (even though bids cost 60 cents for users) and it is now at 45.00. People think this is a great deal, but the company has already made 2700 dollars on the laptop. If people realized that there are generally 10 laptops in a day on the site and just let everyone have a chance to get one really cheap (like 5 dollars) then the company would not be making 4000 dollars a laptop. Just a thought... rather disappointing that people can not work together to make the best of a bidding opportunity.

I'm still "up in the air" about this site. I just submitted an email to quibids support on an issue that I just witnessed in an auction. The auction was for "25 bid vouchers". I submitted one bid in this auction when I started noticing a certain user (CLKMAN) bidding alot. I started getting suspicious and stopped bidding and just sat there counting. Before the auction was over, he had placed more than 66 bids in order to try to win 25 bids! There was another user as well that placed more than 25 bids. That user was "Shawn299". I submitted my idea that quibids should not allow a user to "overbid" on an item. Overbidding makes their site look suspicious. I'll update here if/when I get a response from Quibids.

Here was Quibids response. Keep in mind that this auction was for one of the cheapest things that Quibids sells (25 bid voucher):

I am sorry to hear that this has been your impression of Quibids. We have never allowed bots or company employees to bid on our auctions. It is a clear violation of our Terms and Conditions for either employees or for their family members to bid on this website site.
One thing you should keep in mind is that we have hundreds of active users at any given moment during the day, and if all of them choose to participate in an auction, the auction can go on for quite a long time.
In reality, QuiBids actually loses money on over 50% of our auctions on a daily basis.
If you are really eager to win, we really encourage you to bid on cheaper items. The more expensive items definitely get the most attention and the most users bidding on them.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns, I hope this helps provide some clarity. Have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Scott

Not really sure what to think - have bid on a few items but haven't won anything yet. Have seen the same bidders putting in a large number of bids which is questionable. The "Buy it Now" option makes the process a lot fairer since you can buy the item at retail price. I've googled the prices they offer and they seem fair - not the cheapest but certainly not out of the ball park for these items.

I would also advise on bidding some of the cheaper items which you wouldn't mind buying - they sell a lot of Target and Starbucks cards and I'm going to spend money there anyway. It's definitely gambling so use it as entertainment and be responsible.

Good auction site which is fair. You can't lose IF you bid only on items you are WILLING to pay full price for if you don't win at a discount! I've won a Kindle, a Patio propane heater, a PSP 3000, and several other items in the last month. I've also had to choose Buy It Now on even more in order to come out okay on my bidding adventure! BUT I've had a good time and learned a lot... which I have written in a quick "Guide" about auctions like this! It is entertainment shopping... not a way to win cheap and sell for profit!
