I have a kinda weird experience with online dating because whatever service I face, I am not able to find a good partner for myself. Due to pof, I just understood that I don't need to seek for a partner rather than just for a friend who you can talk to during the whole day. I mean, it's way cooler to have a friend who you can reach out and discuss variety of things and maybe in future I will have relationships with this person. But I ain't wanna make guesses, let it be.
I met Bruno 3 years ago. He has schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and narcissistic tendencies. He mentally and physically abused me and was charged with 5 counts of assault. He also verbally and sexually abused me and treated me with complete disrespect. This man is very sick and dangerous. He appears to be charming and friendly but he is not. Please ladies do not engage or get involved with this man He will hurt you and destroy you. I added his profile picture from POF.
Was a nice site when founded in 2003. What most people do not realize is that the site has since be sold to a dating giant -along with its good reputation- who changed the whole setting - and the reputation as well. Looks like present owner knows how to earn money and probably went into data sharing (selling?) business; anyway, there seem to be now a lot of people who have quite other ideas in their heads but dating...
Pof has changed for the worse now...it sucks...When scanning through profiles it now goes to a white blank page after approximately 8 swipes...Dumb strategy...You will lose more people...This is greed and aggravating aggression to get money in a scammers way...Worst app now...unless you feel like being upset don't even bother...This is the definition of pointless
I met a woman named Sandy, talked nice and smooth. Then the price came. She claims she worked for AT&T and asked me to order seven cell phones and put them on her credit card never met her. I don't know what someone would need seven cell phones for? Be mindful of who you give your information to
I wasn't expecting POF to be at the same level as Match or eHarmony -- you get what you pay for. But I do not like the fact that a lot of the recommended matches are people who haven't logged in to POF for months or in one case almost a year. Had I known this, I wouldn't have paid for it. This is deceptive and fraudulent.
Too many fake profiles and bots that are on the Plenty of fish dating site. Also it seems half the women are friends with benefits or bring their drama to a new relationship. I will just stay single for awhile.
Unable to change the distance and it will only let me see ppl that are hundreds of miles away. Makes absolutely no sense. Do not pay for this site.
After you're on the site awhile and have had several First Contacts, a 24 hour clock kicks in and you can't have another First Contact until then. Your stuck chatting with the multitude of Scammers and Prostitutes who wasted all your initial efforts at finding someone compatible. You have to pay the Subscription Price to life the ban. Not fair!
I felt slightly scammed like they are baiting you by hiding your matches, then charge quite a bit if you purchase a plan - and will not offer refunds if the site doesn't meet your needs. They rejected my request for a refund. Get the Chargeback app and they provide a form letter for POF - I got a refund confirmation within 24 hours.
This app is a joke. First of all, the men listed in NEARBY are mostly NOT nearby. Apparently, POF thinks Florida is only 10 miles from NJ (example), and aren't they supposed to show you only men that fit your criteria? They don't! AND MY LIKES shows men I have NOT liked, and would not have even looked twice at. Don't pay for this!
Not free after a few weeks, no messages can be sent or received without payment, before that... I got numerous responses all from fake accounts... some fishing for money... the account in site come up in same city, after conversation... then exchange phone number, has foreign area code... their statement saying oh I'm in another state trying to get to your city... soliciting money... more than once... for me the website is a total b. S...
All of the dating sites I've looked at are cynical businesses profiting from often sad and lonely people. That's the baseline.
Plenty of Fish at least allows unsubscribed members to make limited contact with potential matches and, uniquely, allows these to reply.
Others oblige you to pay to send a personalised message - and pay again to receive a reply!
The site/app (or mobile site) has a sharp new updated look with an attractive pinkish or salmon-colored framework (ditching the old blue and purple and rather fishy look) and a newer user interface, as of the tail-end of 2022. Making it feel less dated and a bit more similar to, say, Tinder. At least as far as how it is when you're first filling things out on there (example: those little circles or ovals that you select, that say things like: Tennis, Music, Movies, and so on, under "Interests"...).
But the new changes also entail the fact that you can only message one person-- one for free, that is-- per every 24 hours. Otherwise, you've got to ante up: a 40 dollar minimum, and that's for the 3 month package. Also, if you are not a paid subscribed member you can't see who has viewed your profile or who you've matched with from the "Meet Me" section. So, yes it's kind of free; but you can't truly effectively use the site (especially as a male) without at minimum subscribing. I'll get into the "Boosting" thing now.
They're using the typical Tinder-style "buy Boost(s)" system (or, if you prefer: carny-style racket) in order to get yourself seen more. That is to say: they don't show your profile as much, they keep it down somehow, particularly in the 'Meet Me' cards at least, unless or until you are using purchased 'Boosts'. Tinder does the same thing, but calls it something else besides 'Boosts'. Your profile only really appears alive and hot when you are using Boost(s). Otherwise, things quickly die down ~ until you purchase more. This is on top of your above-mentioned subscription package. The cost of the regular Boosts are not included in the subscription. But you do clearly get more views, if nothing else, while using the paid-for Boosts.
If you send messages on PoF, you can't ever delete them from your sent box; so if you're one of those guys or gals who likes to send messages, but is also kind of sensitive about being "left on read", bear in mind you'll have to be thicker-skinned here. You will see that the other person read it (and/or you will of course see when they view your profile after you've messaged them). That's part of the game, granted, but some people do prefer to delete their sent messages and forget about them after sending.
The 'quality' of the people on there (women in my case) is subjective. No doubt some/many, perhaps most, are "real people" at least (they seem to have weeded out many of the blatant fakes and bots, etc). Having said that, as always, the women are getting way more messages and views and so forth than the men; so, as a guy on there, you really have to (after paying to play, as noted, and probably paying to 'Boost' daily as well) send several messages a day, perhaps 7 to 10 or so a day, in order to maybe get 1 or 2 or more replies back. It all depends on your area, what the 'selection' is like by you, and so on.
Also, they do age-bracket and age-discriminate you in a sense. You're only allowed by the site to talk to people who are within a certain predetermined age bracket from your own age. Furthermore, some of the users "disable messaging". This means essentially that this user has decided that they only want people within a certain age range, or people with -- or without -- some other certain factor, that you don't fit the bill on, messaging them. So you can't message them at all. But you can "like" their profile, if you want. By clicking on the little "heart" icon. Although women on there are usually the first to remind you, "I can't see Likes".
If you've got 40 (at least) bucks to blow for a 3-month suscrip (put that on a CC that you won't mind having to ditch and cut up quickly in the case of a compromise of any sort occurring...), plus basically more $$ every time you use the site -- to buy the Boosts and keep your 'popularity' up-- *and* you've got a lot of patience and endurance, you might just catch a fish or two here.
Having recently changed their format I can no longer refine my search by age and distance. This means that I get shown women who live miles away who are about the same age as my children! Wake u[ POF and get it sorted unless of course there are so few members that Half the searches would show that nobody is a match.
I was going to join But after reading the pathetic accounts from folk I cannot afford to waste money!
Its all the same bogus men and women. People who have seemingly been around for ages. So they are not getting my monies after all.
Yes i am lonely and an older lady wanting to find a soul mate!
Why are there not decent sites offering decent rates plus real people?
Its all hinges on your feelings and if you believe. I dot think it happens its a sham..
It is really surprising how many fake ads there are on this site. Lots and lots! They have only 1 or 2 pictures, use improper English and say nothing of substance in their self description. And the 56 year old woman always looks 35. They use words like "pionate". WTF? And in the education section they write "some college ". Why do this over and over? It makes for an awful experience. Save your money and stay away from this scam.
Tip for consumers:
I already answered this question.
What was once a decent site is now 60% scammer profiles and just getting worse. Avoid, Avoid its not in any way worth paying for.
Tip for consumers:
Just avoid the site. Also POF is somehow tied to other dating sites. I discovered this a while back and addressed to the site Admin...
There is little that I like. Their GPS is pathetic. Despite stating within 50 mile radius, most profiles are at least 100 miles away. There are so many scammers, it is really scarey. They should make validation mandatory. I wish I didn't buy but you have to in order to use it. This will be last time.
Tip for consumers:
I realize scamming is a very big problem. I was scammed but there must be a better method of screening for these criminals. Also, is it really that hard to use an authentic GPS system?
As a guy who's used this website on numerous different occasions for men I would say it isn't worth it. You have to come up with something astronomical to say when trying to Mack on a female online that you haven't met. Or she'll just leave you on read. Doesn't matter if you look good or ugly. Women have more success when getting messages and everything, as a man I would definitely say. You're wasting your time if you messaged 3 or 4 women and they haven't replied. Just being honest.
Too many "likes" not enough messages, its so damn difficult! And when you actually chat to anyone its shortlived, why I use this site I really don't know, the app is useless, always something wrong with it! Sometimes I can log in and there's zero messages, why is anyone using it? I'm baffled by this
Tip for consumers:
Try not to, but, everyone has their own opinions
There is not much of a screening/verification process to prevent this. Also, I have specified I only want people in my area yet often get ones outside. I really am tired of having to get a message, click on profile only to find that they live too fsr away. Last, pictures are quite outdated in some cases.
Rejoined the site hope to find a loving partner, Not many had a couple so far do not know about single mom's yet I do know is you will get someone to respond then well sorry mate you are just not my type. Lol I have a month on the site and do not like my chances of finding her on POF either, Probably better off staying single or play with myself [lol] Nah the site is not worth your time effort or even your dollars. Proof of my purchase is in my BILLS.
The site is a scam pls do not fail victim to waste ur find,I just joined on Saturday 01/08/2023 the very first night I had pple turning up nd I was able to talk to 2 when we exchange number, the first guy is racist, the second one cannot prove his identity that prove his scamming using someone picture as his profile,so pls beware it's full of $#*! for the past 3 days my account is not Visible nd am unable to receive any messages of likes nd I've been sending likes to pple which pple can't respond or like me this is the worst dating app I've never come across
Separated a few years back. Decided to try POF. Spent money and tried messaging different ladies only to be told that they had their messaging turned off. But in their profiles it actually says to message them. Some of these women I knew previously. When I ran into these ladies later I asked them why they had their messages turned off. They said they never had it turned off. POF scam. Also, POF said they would notify me to renew my subscription but they just put through my bank card # without consent.
None of POF business who I chat to. I have photos meeting guidelines and POF deleted them. Also I am limited to how many gals I say hello to. Many reasons. All of them are too scared to go out do to the scammers they create to get you to pay the premium fees. I know how to talk to the scammers,, POF makes you come up with a email that they only know to communicate. LOL. This is bogus. Dating sites were easier
Tip for consumers:
Don't expect much from paying ,, try the free version first.. don't live in the fear they create. Its easier to say hello in person.
Today is 9 October 2022. My last POF review was in June 2022. The site has drastically changed in those 4 months. I noticed that appx. 85% of women have "disabled their chat feature" i. E. you can not send them a message of any type. Also, once you attempt to contact a woman who has not disabled her chat feature, a screen pops up and in order to send a message, you must now pay. Big Change! Guess I'm finished with POF. Please see attached photo's delineating my above comments.
