“I have only had Great Experiences”

I have made over 10 purchases in the past 6 years and I love it. I do not interact with anyone that has less than 10 sales and I always meet at a place like Walgreens or a gas station. I always meet during the day. The items are really great and some people are really just trying to make a few dollars or get rid of something I may need. I furnished my retail space with things from Offer Up and always paid 80 to 90 percent less than retail.

On or about September 2,2023, I purchased a modem from the website Offerup. When the modem came, it was discovered by Comcast that it was stolen. When I reached out to Offerup, I was told that I did not dispute the claim on time and due to their policy there was nothing that could be done. I even contacted the seller and they read the message with no response. I disputed the information with the bank. Several weeks later, the charge was reversed.

The actual process of posting a listing is fairly easy, however, there are some oddities. Weird thing #1: your allowed shipping price is based solely and only on the item price.
#2: The maximum allowed listing value is only $500. This part was weird to me.
#3: you can view, use, and buy on the website or phone, but if you want to list, you can only use your phone... this was both infuriating and a bit stupid. I give this site a rating of 3/5 and its only redeeming itself because of the buying experience, otherwise it would get a solid 1.5/5.

There are so many people who troll OfferUp that the vast majority of the initial offers or responses are fake or not real. Just looking to see what they can get away with

The app is easy and fun to use. Have yet to sell anything, though. As for buyer responses, you get very low ball offers, or people just messing with you. Had better luck with Craigslist. Also, I wish they would have a different chime for sales vs notifications. I guess it's to make sure you look at your phone reminding you of the app, because you're not sure if the chime your heard is indicating a sale or a notification.

I've sold many things on Offerup with no issues, locally, I just did an out of town sale for the first time. Buyer paid within 30 seconds and I have to wait 12 days for my money to load on PayPal? I don't see how people steal money and not send the product. My product and money have been held hostage...

The only thing is some sellers they tend to forget they are selling used item once an item is not in it's original box it's used. They want to hold on to the item I understand they might have paid good money for some stuff but once you used it it's no longer new and it's not worth close to the price you bought it from the store. So I see some people complaining about not selling well y'all need to let go of the stuff. For those who are moving and selling their stuff either you'd have to trash it or give it away. You have the opportunity to sell it don't think you're gonna get close to the money you bought the item as new.

Yes, my account got hacked. A fake post appeared about a 2008 Nissan. In another state. When I edited the post and wrote, "scam, I didnt post this" and changed the price to zero, all my items got marked as sold... i deactivated my account.

I tried to work things out with buyer but I felt so unsafe I had to block him and report him.we where both banned in the end, so it appears to be.it looks like OfferUp banned his account which was unexpected, I thought they where just going to take one side I don't want to make this to long but I gave him the wrong cards he wanted American cards and I accidentally gave him Japanese cards. I told him I'll figure something out because I spent his money already then he blown up. After getting threats in a place like Chicago I just couldn't take it anymore. Offerup told me not to contact him again and file a police report. Chicago is a dangerous place!

There is far too many scams. There are cars for sale that you need to use a hot mail account to contact. If you check the same car will be listed in several states and cities. They always claim to be listing it for a relative. Then there are several ad's that have unbelievable prices. You will never get what you paid for. OfferUp will not help and apparently they don't have a department to report scams to. I never got my bongos and congas and got zero help from OfferUp the scam is back up@ OfferUp

Tip for consumers:
Don't buy anything that says Ad on the listing.

The problem are some of the seller, do not answer or do not remove old products that they have sold. So this is based on selling either used, not used or thing you forget you have in storage, you could easily get all the thing you do not want around and make a little cash, the problem are that the sellers, do not write enough information about their products, no dimensions, no color, no year, if the item has all the installation hardware needed, not how many years it has been in used for example washer/dryer set that I was looking for, I had to ask every single time how old were they or if they still had them and a bunch of? That make sellers furious! SO SELLERS describe your items! Also if they list the item at 9pm, they can easily sell them 1 hr later and you had your hopes on it, or worse they leave items for 11 months so you always have to ask IF they ARE available, which seems to upset them... REALLY? How else are we to know! WELL an update on each item you have should be one of the things this platform demands the seller to keep up with, but not every 6 mos, on a week to week basis, so we do NOT waste our time or have to put up with silence, or an irate seller that later complains about us buyers on their community board. But sometimes is a true gem when someone responds, immediately, when the item is still for sale, and you can buy it. Let's face it I don't do offers I just plainly by the item with out offering less when I know I am getting a bargain. But what I have purchased, I loved, took me a little driving and a lot of texts, which it should be a little easier, I have sold many items as well, but it's because I put everything dimensions, approx weight, color, what it is made off, time I had it, condition, and I take pics of the faults as well. Also had been very lucky getting pros to install things for me at my house, like contractors, movers, and AC specialists, had not used the shipping service, and I won't this is to ebay/amazon where you are protected and can send the item back at no cost. SO if you have patience, don't get your hopes too high that you will be able to buy the item because it might not be there, or deal with buyers that place things there and they later change their minds as not to sell it, and be careful as well because I heard and I am pretty sure I almost fell for a scam on an unbelievable price on a new bedroom set the pic was a stock pic and the woman kept on changing the location, and wanted me to send her half of the cash in some app they have which I do not trust anyone, or any app that wants my bank account #s, it's ok, it's a little learning curve, but what I have bought it was a great prices, what I couldn't well God didn't want me to have it or it or worse! Use n be ready for any of the things mentioned above.

My first few local purchases were great - no complaints or problems! The last purchase I made wasnt worth anything. Upon arriving at the sellers house, my picks were already boxed up & I got the bums rush. I was literally rushed out, a guy put the box in my car - without my being able to look at anything! Was given impression he was watching football & wanted to get back to his game. Once Home, I discovered the books were from 35 to 50 years old - the picture & frame had no glass! My own fault for not saying wait a minute so I can check things. Valuable lesson learned - check things out before you hand someone your money!

Why does my saved listings go back to the beginning when I unsave an item? I need it to stay in the same area where I was. Taking too long to clean. My problem is the update with the app sending me to the beginning time after time.

I got 6 offeres on my mic. I accepted all their offers, then they all never responded. Why do people make a $#*!in offer, then not respond back? Its happened on other items too. Its not offerup's fault, It's the buyers' fault.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful of flakey people. plenty of them on offerup

I have been put on to this site several months ago and I've been selling well ever since. I believe I'm a very trusted user on this site because 1. I use my own profile pic 2. My first name. And because I sell my stuff at very reasonable prices and don't scam others. After all the bad reviews I've read about this site, people should honestly learn how to establish some kind of trust with the people they plan on buying from, it's common sense. You should be able to identify if the person is a legit seller, profile pic and name and all, and THOROUGHLY read the description of the thing they are selling. If they give little to no details about themselves or the items, why would you risk it? Even though the person is selling at a really cheap or low price? It is kind of a bust when some people waste my time where they spam my stuff with offers and then never reply back. But I have been successfully selling MANY of my items ANYWAYS. What I hate the most when I'm selling my stuff on here, is that people offer at such low, low unreasonable prices. Here's my philosophy: "I don't care how much you want it for, I care about how much I PAID for it."
