I advise you not sell on Mercari, they ripped me off and just all of a suddened closed my shop. Wouldn't allow me to reopen it. Had just ordered some things and they came damaged. They won't let you back in to get it settled either. I did real good until all of a sudden they just closed me down. No explanation, nothing. Tried to open another shop and got nowhere. I would not even give them a rating of one if they had a zero here. BEWARE! You were warned.
Mercari decided to hold my funds for 90 days, because I sold a counterfeit item (I didn't know it was). After the 90 day period, they are not releasing my money, saying that I created a new Mercari account, which is not true! Now they are keeping my money for 90 more days!

They suspended my account for selling and there is no way I can get my funds out of the account. They require me to give them my social security number but there is no way in heck I am going to give someone I don't know my social. I am losing 1,000$ in stuff I sold and can't even receive my money. I emailed them if I could do an alternative and give them the last four of my social instead but they weren't understanding about that at all either! I hate Mercari, do not sell on there!
I ordered a drawer for a closet (Allen and Roth). The rder picture, color and demensions all matched product on line. What I received via Mercari was a different company, wrong demensions, and wrong color. Mercari customer service is ridiculous, buyer protection is a joke. I would never use this site and never recommend it to anyone!
I purchased an item from "this and That" shop. The reviews on Mercari were good. My credit card was charged even though they stated that it wouldn't be until I received the item. A shipping label was created and no tracking information was available days later. There was also no reported scanning of the label or any movement of the package from the origin/location of the seller. I am not sure if the item was ever sent in the mail or if the label was just created for me to believe it was in transit. I just don't trust this site. Don't use. I contested the charge through my credit card account by disputing the charge and it was resolved.
Do NOT Sell or buy on mercari as they will flag you for fraud for just about any reason. My wife used mercari and now has had her card banned for 5 YEARS bc she used it on my account once bc there was no money on my card. Do not be fooled by them like we were. Use EBAY
I've only been selling on Mercari for two months. I sell primarily items averaging $90 plus shipping. I sold something and received notification that it arrived. Next thing I get is a notification stating my shipping insurance will not be covering my item because it wasn't package correctly. What? Someone stole the item out of the box and shipper bag and sent the box on its way to the buyer. Mercari opened the case, closed it and told me I wasn't getting anything all in one minute. They will not answer any questions. They told me to ask the buyer. The buyer was the one that told me the bag was cut open and item stolen. I cancelled the order to pay back the buyer because I wasn't told what to do next and didn't want to pay for shipping of an empty box. Mercari does not have our backs. Now I'm out approx $90. I located the tracking number and filed with the postoffice.
I placed an offer and bought a Nintendo 2DS on Mercari. When the NDS arrived, it had blatant and obvious damage to the top and bottom screens on the left side. The written description by the seller was only one sentence long and said that it was in VERY GOOD condition. The seller never described anything about the condition of the screens. There was no way to see the condition of the screens because the photos were low light and screens often reflect room lights. I was led to believe that the screens were in "very good" condition and when I received the item, it was obvious that it was not. I felt misled by the seller.
I only made an offer on this item under the confidence of Mercari's Buyer Protection and that if the listed item did have screen damage I could return it. Mercari's support is refusing my return request. Mercari isn't even letting me rate the seller. That puts other buyers at risk of falling victim to this type of misleading listing.
I bought a motherboard from Mercari--first purchase. Motherboard arrived 5pm Thursday and first thing Friday morning I took it to the computer builder's shop to have it installed into my new build. I received a call on Monday from my builder to tell me the board is dead. There is no outward appearance of damage, but the board is dead. In the world of micro-computing, this is the case with defective items 99.99% of the time.
I started the return process immediately and had to provide 8 photos of the item. So I called the builder and asked him to please take the photos. He reluctantly agreed.
I get a message from "Cha" from Mercari asking for more photos to prove its defective. Now I have a choice, drive 45 minutes to my builder's shop, take 10 more photos of nothing, drive 45 minutes home to send them to Maercari and hope for the best? Non-sensical ridiculousness. I'd rather lose $150. Last time I ever buy anything from this site
I ordered and outfit that was priced cheaper then poshmark I figured I'd take a chance it guarenteed 1-2 days to ship and like the others that have left bad reviews I got no response from customer service. I got very anxious because I specifically ordered outfit for a special occasion and then I get a response a day later from seller stating she lost her phone and access to apps and she couldn't afford the shipping to overnight the package. She cancelled the order and stated she was sorry! I was upset because this was a major inconvenience. The money was already debited from my account and they didn't refund me right away. I understand things happen but this was not a good first impression. I'm not blaming seller I'm empathetic when it comes to things beyond our control. Ultimately it was customer service who is accountable for this mistake. They should have responded sooner.
I sold a bundle for $100. I pack everything well and wrote fragile/glass over the box. The buyer reached out to me stating the box appeared damaged in transit and everything arrived broken. They reached out to get assistance but however I was unable to see what they said or what the images appeared as which you were able to see before. I waited to see what would happen and I received a message that the bundle got canceled without even my consent or side of the story and I would not get shipping protection due to insufficient packing even though I put a towel on the bottom along with individually putting packaging on each item in the box. I filed a claim and I am currently waiting to get assistance. I am so frustrated because I wasted my time and money
I posted my $3000 treadclimber machine for sell on this site. It sold finally for $548. I was the recieve $477 once Mercari took their cut. They tell you that they would provide the shipping label (well you are paying for it out of your profits). Then they are partnered with UPS to pick up your item for shipping. Not only was it hell getting UPS to get the item, but Mercari provided the wrong label. When I reached out to get a update label, I was told the pay the difference for a new label. But I would not be eligible for shipping protection. I took a chance used their label and UPS broke my machine. The buyer got their money back and all I got was an email stating that I was not eligible for shipping protection because the label had the wrong weight. I get nothing, but a broken machine that can no longer sell.
They don't back up their buyers. I'll only use PayPal because i dont trust Mercari. When sellers try to scam buyers, but cant because of the Paypal buyer protection policy, Mercari will message the buyer threatening suspension for exercising paypals buyer protection. Their customer is nowhere to be found when people are getting scammed. But open a claim and they'll show up real quick.
Mecari use to be good but now it has more resellers than buyers. If you price something at $6 they make offer for $5 If you price something at $100 they make offer $25 covid 19 created more sellers which means less sales, So I'm going to try and find a new selling app.
I made a purchase from this online business, who claims to support people selling individual items. Upon receiving the item that was for a Christmas present for my young son, the item looked fine. It was a GameCube game and the CD had no physical signs of wear, so I assumed that the item was incorrect working condition. Being that it was a Christmas gift for my young son I did not play the item nor was I able to until Christmas morning. Then there was an error message on the screen that said item not compatible. I reached out to Mercari For assistance with making you return, but because of their 24 hr return policy I was unable to do so. I responded with pictures and my item number of purchase in attempt to contact the seller of the item, to which they replied just resell it on Mercari". Basically I was given the runaround and then within 24 hours of my last email to them they closed the case number for my inquiry. I wouldnt buy from this company or any of the sellers again.

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I bought an item and was in the hospital for a few days. It had barely been the third day mark. As soon as I came back, I realized that the seller had sold me a 1) counterfeit and 2) defective product. I immediately proceeded to leave voicemails and messages to mercari, none of which was answered in a timely manner. Then, mercari responded that they will make a one time exception and allow a return, the rep then ghosted me. Many later, another rep messaged me and said no return period. The reps openly lie and don't take responsibility. Mind you, the first rep had promised me a return for a DEFECTIVE and COUNTERFEIT item and now they are not taking responsibility.
Look I know that Mercari is requiring this because it's trying to keep out fraudulent sellers and scam artists, but if you're going to have this secret hidden requirement to allow sellers to even accept payment from potential buyers, then put it somewhere on your website where it can be clearly found and understood. I received a text message from a potential buyer telling me his payment was declined and his account would be blocked, as well as my account would be deactivated if I didn't purchase a One Vanilla Visa gift card to accept payments. I can't even use my account despite having it verified through my gov't issued ID unless I have a tiny, meaningless little gift card? For such an overhyped sellers app I can't say I'm very impressed with all the hoops I have to jump through to even sell one item. I will definitely not be using this app in the future.
Bought a DVD series off Mecari. I did not leave a review yet so I could watch some of DVD before review. Within 3 days Mecari reviews it then tells me I cannot get my money after review. Dvd was supposed to be new. Closed my account. Tried to add pictures but it wouldn't go through for some reason.
My account was suspended due to ID verification. Although is did verify my self. My Passport is a Mexican passport and that's why they said they couldn't verify it. Now they closed my account and I have money on it, $130 I lost. This makes me really mad because I'm a stay at home mother and I've been messaging them emailing them and they are dodging me. I submitted an order for a telfar ugg shopping bag from kaz shop. After 72 hours and several reminders to the seller, my item wasn't delivered. An additional attempt to reach out to the seller was made along with a request to mail the item and nothing. I received a bogus excuse stating they have many positive reviews and this was an oversight. I've cancelled my order and will not utilize this site in the future

Please understand that when buying a product on the app, you'll immediately be charged at the time of purchase, but these funds will not be available to your seller until they send the item their buyer receives, inspects, and rates the transaction.
