“Men's traditional relaxed fit tee shirts”

Ruth H.
4/24/23

I love these shirts! They are my go-to summer wear. I wish they still sold the Dark Olive color though and made new colors too. I got shoe polish on my old olive shirt, and it washed out!. They get better with washings. And the weight is perfect. They are worth the price. Just miss my olive color. I'm from Maine originally, so I feel like I have a piece of "home" wrapped around me.I met Mr. Bean when a child. He was at the door greeting people. Good memories.

“LL Bean Boots Suck”

Paul C.
11/7/23

Their boot they so highly praise blew stitching 2 years in. Customer service was the worst from any company I have ever dealt with totally brutal. They wanted me to ship it to the US and pay for th restitch after two years of normal use and then fought back and forth between Maine and store as to whose fault / responsibility it was. Please if you value quality and customer service you are better off somewhere else...anywhere...

I am an older woman who has lived in and loved your clothes for many decades. They are very well-made, comfortable to wear, and hold up well over the years. Your moccasins and slippers are some of my favorites due to their exceptional comfort and construction and I am never disappointed. However, I find that the leather ties on the front of the shoes and slippers are not well secured and frequently become untied. This has caused me to trip and fall on several occasions and sustaining minor injuries only. I respectfully am suggesting that you find a way to secure these ties to avoid serious injury to your elder customers. Recently while shopping in your Voorhees NJ store for new slippers and shoes, I met another older couple who expressed exactly the same concern. This woman stated that she had fallen over the loose undone ties in her slippers. I will not be purchasing any further slippers or moccasins until this problem is acknowledged and properly addressed. These are a real safety hazard to your customers. Please find a way to encourage me to stay with LL Bean. Until then, I am buying my shoes and slippers from My Pillowo websites.
Thank you.

LL Bean does seem to cater to small women. If they do offer larger sizes, they are usually out and they dont' often come in the same color choices. Also, if you return something you paid for with Paypal they only offer store credit or a check that takes 7-10 days to get to you, which is dark ages stuff. I have only ever run into the with them. Stuck in the dark ages it seems all the way around.

They once prided themselves on their superior customer service and trust me it showed. Having been a customer for many years I can attest first hand that what impressed me about this company was the fact that from the time they answered the phone they knew all your information, actively listened to your concerns, and resolved your issues to great satisfaction.

I recently returned an item and received confirmation via UPS tracking that they have had it for over a week. In this case I filled out their return slip and requested an exchange (XL too large). Their website not only doesn't show the return or replacement item pending but when I called a lady I spoke with cut me off in mid-sentence and stated it might take another week or so to show up and to wait for my refund. When I explained I wanted an exchange she quickly stated to check back in another week and it might show up then. I get the fact that it may be a busy time of year with the holidays coming around but being cut off quickly like that and given the vague check back in a week or so is not exactly the best way to handle a customer inquiry imho. That said, I do enjoy the quality of their clothing so I will be a loyal customer. However, the customer service could use an upgrade. It's not what it used to be.

Verified purchase

I wrote a 5-star product review for their website and submitted it thusly:

"I was lucky to find two pairs of these on a different website that sells used items. It's love. I wanted to comment on the complaints that the pants don't go up high enough in the waist. Very true. For me, they come up the perfect height in front but are an inch or two too low in the back, so when I sit, I feel like I'm showing some... ahem... Well, let's just say they don't come up far enough in the back when I'm seated. (I don't notice an issue while standing.) It's not likely to bother me because I always wear a top that goes down several inches below the top line of my pants. So these pants may or may not work for you, but it can't hurt to try them out! I don't feel that my fat tummy is hanging over the elastic in front. I was worried about that, but the pants do come up high enough to prevent that (for me, anyway). The quality is nice and I like the snapped pockets. (I'm a huge snaps fanatic.) And oh, by the way, I wear petite because even though I'm 5'8" tall, I have a long torso and short legs. The petite Large fits me perfectly. I'm excited to wear these come autumn! I wish they had a bit more flare in the ankles/calves, but it's not a huge issue."

And I got an email from them saying:

"Please give your review another try. Unfortunately, your feedback does not meet our guidelines.

We really want to hear what you have to say, so please check out the tips below. Thank you!

DO:
- Use the item before reviewing it
- Share specific details and features of the item (fit, performance, color, etc.)

DON'T
- Include your name or personal contact information.
- Focus on customer service of shipping. Our customer service team is happy to answer those questions.
- Use obscenities, discriminatory language or make negative comments about other reviewers.
- Post advertisements, "spam", references to other products, companies, offers, or websites.
- Include specific price information, promotional discounts or other information that is subject to change."

And I'm like, what the freak did I do wrong?! I didn't break any of those rules. Did I? I'm offended.

That's the basis of giving them three stars, but it's one star for their rejecting my review, averaged out by a five-star rating on their wonderful clothing. Hmmph.

I've been shopping with L. L. Bean for decades. I had their LLBean credit card, and loved the perks when it was with Visa. Now they have Mastercard and their credit card is just awful... it really let me down and ruined my holiday shopping by suddenly closing my account for no reason. In fact, they owed me money. But, anyway, L. L. Bean's clothing quality has declined over the years. It used to be that their clothing were wonderfully long-lasting and sweaters nearly indestructible. Now, their sweaters mostly self-destruct within a few years, at best. A cash ere sweater I've had 3 years is becoming "thin" & is labeled "Made in China". Ugh! The women's tops have been shortened by several inches, so when you wash them, they shrink a bit and your mid section will show. Their returns are fine, especially if you have their now-crappy credit card, returns are free. I would only purchase L. L. B.'s high end items now, as those are the only items of quality that will really last, i. E., their $250 sweaters or $200 boots. Of course, wait for sales and use the LLB perks of "Bean Bucks". Sadly, their clothing quality has declined, but their household goods are great, if very over-priced. Be sure to carefully read all reviews before buying their furniture, as I've seen some poor reviews. I have bed linens from LLBean that are absolutely superb, which I had to wait to buy on sale, as they were very expensive. Then, the design is duscontinhued, so I cannot buy matching anything. Bummer! I used to LOVE LLBean, now it's a scavenger hunt for quality, pouring through their quantity of stuff. Good luck.

I have been an on-line customer of LL Bean for at least a dozen years, mainly for their clothing and shoes. In fact, I have been ordering the same shoe design, their Men's Comfort Mocs, for this entire time. Recently one such order had an interesting "side effect" in that after a year or so the right shoe developed a noticeable color deviation on just one half of its upper suede panels. Since I have a half dozen of these style shoes in my wardrobe and only occasionally wore this particular pair I ignored this anomaly for a while. However after being teased with such comments as "So, did you dress in the dark today, Frank? I see your shoes don't exactly match!" and "Are you trying to bring back the two color Saddle Shoe look, Frank?", I decided to contact LL Bean. I explained that if both shoes had this "two tone" effect that I would be happy since it looked pretty cool but since one stayed the original color and the other didn't, I would like to exchange them for a pair that had the same color on both shoes. They told me to send them back the shoes at my expense, which I did. A call back from their customer service department acknowledged that they were indeed as I described but that because I had owned them for several years that Bean would not make good on their warranty and replace them, even if I paid for part of this exchange price. I had them send the shoes back to me as there is still plenty of wear left in them and now that the "kids" have started wearing dissimilar colored socks and shoes, I guess that I am going to be right in style... although the look isn't quite the same on an 80 year old man as it is on a 14 year old girl.

Tip for consumers:
If you have to return the item, do so VERY promptly.

Like REI, generally good quality at high prices. However, also like their prime competitor they have an increasing tendency to include merchandise of borderline design and offshore manufacture that leaves you entirely dependent on their liberal return policy.

Just received a men's "slightly fitted" tee shirt in large. Quality made, well-constructed. Can't go wrong on a tee, right? Let me think... wrong. I have a broader than average chest and have always worn a large, but this item was gargantuan. I'm talking circus tent size. Could've fit two of me in there. As for "fitted," maybe for an elephant. The hem was as wide as the shoulders. But I like the fabric. Maybe, after a few washings, I can shrink this sucker down.

Update: LL Bean has refunded my shipping costs after I complained. I'm upping my review to 3 stars as a result.

I got only half of my order and they left me waiting for the other half. I had to ask before they told me that the company they hired couldn't find my address for the second half of my order (the same address that they already delivered to). This Christmas gift will probably be late now.

Then instead of trying to make things right, they refunded my purchase and told me to reorder it again if I still wanted it. This means that I lose my free shipping because my $110 order is now only $55. I am not happy with this level of customer service. I would not recommend shopping here.

The problem seems to be more about the shipping companies they use then the company themselves. STOP USING SPRINTSTAR to deliver your packages. They are obviously not competent and will continue to tarnish your company's name.

I ordered a jacket for Falk and it was repeatedly delayed — time after time. Now the Xmas catalog looks nice but all 5 items I have tried to order over the past few weeks are not in stock and delivery can't be guaranteed for Xmas. They have lost a customer: me.

I purchased a pair of women's slippers. I had to replace my previous pair as they were falling apart after 5 years! Yes, 5 years old. The new slippers wore out fast and before 8 months had passed, there was a hole in the toe top and the shearing inside had all but diminished. Very disappointed with them. I

Your company has been in business forever for one reason, consistency. When you want something that fits the same way, looks the same way and comes in a high quality cotton, wool, down, rubber, felt, flannel etc you go to LL Bean. I have been less than thrilled with the styling and feel of many items I have ordered the last 6 or 7 years. I ordered about 13 flannel shirts in various styles. Was not wild about the prints they came in, but thought maybe they will be better in person, all but 1 went back. They were all these strange
Wide weaves, and not in traditional plaids prints and traditional plaid colors. I want a 50's -70s' looking flannel shirt and old New England Yankee styling. They could have used the styles in their mid 80's cataloque and I would have been pleased as punch. I don't want innovation from them. The new stuff looks like it was made by Coldwater Creek, the Sundance Company, or Chicos, not LL Bean

The children's uniform pants, shirts, socks and skirts I bough a few years ago just did not have the quality stitching and fabric I expect from them the socks felt like plastic socks, not like buttery cotton. Dear Lord, were the flannel and 100 percale sheets a disappointment and the towels as well. Only the sheep skin slippers were up to their old selves.

So my suggestion to there buyers and designers would be to not rethink it, stick to boxy v neck or boy friend tee, old school flannel coats and down jackets, a rain slicker that looks like it came off a Nantucket pier in 1975, and more Nantucket Vines classic preppy style. Things like the moccasins your Mom wore during the summers in the 60's -80's, or flannel shirt you wore to a concert in the 80's or 90's.

I might tweak the home collection, and bring it more towards shaker rather than Stickley or William Morris Aesthetic Movement stuff, people are more into School House Electric, or Serena & Lilly now. A bit of classic American colonial or modern cleaner lines would be good.

So bring the clothing back to classic prep and the home furnishing more modern or more classically American traditional. Bold colors, nice student lamps enamel, nice Ralph Lauren looking bedding.

I have never liked their customer service department much and always swayed towards shopping more with Land End and the Bass Pro shop as they are great over there. Their whole policy and how anal they are in negotiate things and lack of apology, always makes me feel like I am dealing with a stuck up, over educated judgmental nerd who thinks he is brighter than you, and that you should be thanking him for allowing you to shop at his store. The store employees are very sweet.

There are 2 main reasons why I will not use LL Bean anymore unless they have something I cannot find anywhere else. First: I am now forced to use the Canadian site and this means a big change in communication during the prep and shipping. Last couple of times there were 3 days between ordering and getting confirmation that my order was being prepared. No way to check online where it was at. Online status indicated that one of my items was now out of stock. Had to contact LL Bean to know what was going on. Then - no estimated arrival time until a couple of days before delivery. Poor process for online retail. Second: some favorites from previous years (T Shirts) now done very cheaply. Organic cotton T Shirt this year nothing like what I got in the past. Other cotton favorite now mixed up with modal and spandex. Not a good experience overall on my 2019 purchases.

I ordered slippers that did not fit even though I ordered my size. I returned them for a refund. I did get my refund minus 6.50 for shipping. They waive that IF you have their credit card. That policy has made it so I will not ever purchase online with them $6.50 loss for me when something does not fit. I was penalized because of sizing?

In the past, I have appreciated the quality of LL Bean products. Over the past years, I have been displeased with the lessening of the quality and value of products being offered. Products currently being sold at LL Bean carry a premium price but are often made in China. I should just go to Walmart to buy China made products at a better price!

I placed an order three days ago online and it hasn't even shipped yet very unusual therefore my items will not be here before I go to on vacation!
I've just tried to call customer service and told that I could be on wait for at least 10 minutes I've never had a voicemail pick up my call from L. L. Bean!
I never thought I would say I'm getting better customer service and shipping from Amazon than L. L. Bean, very disappointed loyal, long time customer!

Takes a week and a half now to receive merchandise. Countless mis-marked clothing sizes, order filling mistakes, etc. An American legend gone bad. Time for new management and new clothing designs/colors. Same old stuff year and year. They do still have a few great products though and that keeps me going back every now and then, but they're in trouble for the long run.

Update: They have fixed their shipping issues. I received an apology and gift certificate to help. Updating my review to 3 stars.

I wrote a review on their fitness skorts. It wouldn't accept my nickname, When I changed it 10 times to crazy things I was still not accepted. I guess that is how they filter out bad review... Not fair practice. The skorts I have purchased year after year ( I have bought over 15 in the past) have now changed. They are made of cheaper fabric and the shorts under will be stretching out of shape. The actual skirt part is also so loose they tend to fall off. I have worn the same size for years as well so they should fit perfectly. Shame on you! If you buy they same product that they sell online. Buyer beware!

I like the quality of LL Bean products, and especially like that they sell a nice selection of women's clothing in petite sizes. I may be spoiled by Amazon Prime, but 2 weeks to ship is crazy.
