The staff aren't great, and there are so many rules, and the staff are always telling you what to do. I wish I could make it better. Like if I could apply to be a staff member or something. On the other hand, it is a very fun site that I am on every day.
This site is probably one of the worst things i have ever seen in my life. I joined around a year ago, and i thought the site was amazing, and it was everything i wanted. But after a year, i started to see the innerworkings of the site. The staff discriminate against anyone they do not like, and send report after report just to get that person expelled. They hire people who never try to stop that discrimination, and go around flaunting that they are homophobic and such. THEY DO NOT CARE. They do not care that the people in the site are going around and shutting down what it once was. The admin are all fake. They act all nice and kind, and then shut you down when you do something they do not like. DO NOT JOIN
The people in charge let thier friends fo pratically whatever they want. Moderators seem to abuse there powers. They pick and choose who they want to help and It defeats the purpose, and it's not good for some of the younger users to be around it. I don't recommend it for younger users. The site terms says it's for all ages but when I browsed around on my 11 year old daughters account I immediately decided to remove her account, with some of the stuff the others on this site talk about. If you are a parent of children who use this site, I strongly recommend have a look at the a lot of the stuff going on this site. There is so much innapropiate behavior and talk every where on there.
So my little sisters account just got sent to Azkaban and so did her friend's! The moderator said something about how she can't have two and more accounts. Then they asked her which she wants to keep so she said her account yet they expelled her friends account and put her account in Azkaban! Like, what dumbness is that? And they put my sister in Askaban for 3 DAYS! I mean really. Anyway overall, the rest is okay I guess.
I guess it just isn't my cup of tea. There's nothing remotely interesting happening on site, yes, there are events that give you prizes or what not but it feels more like an assignment than anything.
Overall, the site is very simplistic in design, the forums are rather dull, activity wise; there aren't many active members as of current as there are no site wide events being held. Known for its roleplaying aspect --> roleplays seem very dead to me --> same stories being repeated, users are bored of the same plot.
Very hard to earn galleons (site currency = equivalent to money) as a new user. What I mean by it being hard to earn money is that sure you are able to "earn enough per say" to purchase the starter items required for the game, but takes a while to build up fortune to purchase the higher tier items as everything is so inflated --> game gets boring after a while.
Overall some of the people seem nice, willing to help a new user, but staff and moderators classify a new user asking for some help/items/galleons as BEGGING --> they send out warning letters to new users about this --> gives a very negative impression and so users are not likely to come back to play.
There are clubs, joined a few clubs. Most members are not active, most clubs are dead, there are no initiatives. The site basically restricts the versatility of how clubs are able to accomodate user interests.
Anyways, I would say my experience was okay, it wasn't "magical" per say. Just really boring, I lost interest very quickly.
I have been a member on HEXRPG for 4 years and I have always followed rules and suff. I was even a HEX mentor and enjoyed years of prizes and events.
And honestly, HEX can be so stressful, they think you have no life outside of the website and that you can just respond to owls and posts as soon as it is sent. Apparently, the admins and moderators really do think I have no life outside HEX and started sending me owls for 'neglecting' my position. I have always brought up how busy my life has been yet they ignore that and act like professionals.
From my experience as a HEX mentor, most of the Welcome Owls that I send they don't respond or read. Plus most new users don't even log back on to their account after they visit the site.
And yeah if they're met with a black background with nothing appealing on it, then of course they are going to loose bloody interest. TBH when I first got on HEX, I was like what? How, what, where?
Yeah. So I am honestly so sick of this, moderators are normal people that get onto the site. They do their own thing and don't check up on much. They call you out for small things like posting a one word post, but hey, there a way more important issues out there. Like the racism out there and ignorant comments.
Honestly, get your head out of the fracking toilet and address those concerns, don't be freaking petty and think you're 'doing your job'.
Also, lay it off. So what, if I answer my owl two hours later, I am on the other side of the world. If you want everyone to be safe and healthy, then maybe let them sleep for a few hours.
I am honestly so disgusted with the way these moderators handle their power, is it because the person wrote a paragraph of bull? Is that how you choose someone?
Well, if it is, then this site is messed up.
~ From a very concerned human.
I am now in my 2nd year and I could not have imagined how great this would be. I created a Dorm called Dark Souls since I am Slytherin Pureblood and fancy the Dark Arts that is potion making. I have 30 wonderful, gifted, elite roomies that are active and make my home away from home awesome. I am a member of the club Shatters Death Eaters and that is the icing on the cake as I have learned so much RP from them. There are contests, events, rare items to covet or if your lucky own and new friends from all over the world. My RP and essay writing have improved and now I dabble in the stock market and plums for galleons. I love the library section and have written a couple of books that are in the restricted section lol. Overall I plan on being here for a very long time.
HEXRPG is a scamming website that wants you to donate your hard earned money to the them so that they can use it to run thier cult of a website for useless fictional items that NO ONE EVEN USES IN REAL LIFE! They are a bunch of con men and women who just use their all damming power to disable your account at anytime as well as send you owls with one sentence instead a full written status report on WHY they are banning or disabling the account.
The moderators and owner of the website are the greatest bunch of scumbags if I've ever seen one. Sitting behind the computer screen, secretly stalking users and running a big brother like agenda on the website. And on top of that they even share among themselves and their friends the loot of the a million galleons!
This site is the worst example of censorship on the internet. If you really want to censor the internet get off it first because the net is not a place to be a prissy little entitled $#*!.
Okay, so let me begin...
I really do love Hexrpg, it's an amazing interactive site and I love all the Res and events. Basically everything.
You're probably wondering why I am giving it only 2 out of 5 stars. You are also guessing/know that my problem with the site is the moderators and Staff. The Staff are terrible. SO... Let me get on with my story, TIS SA MOD owled me saying that I was spamming the thread and he/she said (sorry no naming names :D) that I was going to be kicked out if i kept doing it.
Something fishy was going on. I
(1) Was not spamming a thread
(2) I figured out who the person was
I owled back and tried to explain to TIS SA MOD and he/she didn't want to hear a word of it, instead I was sent to Azkaban for a day.
And I AM LIKE; COME ON!
How?
What?
WHAT CRAP!
Okay, that's my story. I gave up on Hex that day.
The graphics are very elementary school-like. The moderators are absolute jerks who have no business moderating to begin with. Stay far away from Hex.
The sites is quite fun, but be careful of not breaking any rules, whether you didnt mean it or its just a TINY very TINY mistakes, they could send you to azkaban without waiting us to defend ourselves. The staffs there are totally stucked up, arrogant people. To think that they are older than me is truly unbelievable. SOme of them even as old as my mom, but their behaviour is so damn rude and childish. Just dont contact them or trying to be friendly with them, its just wasting your time. I made few friends there, most of hexians are nice, excecpt ofc like i said before their staff is such a turn off.
The site has a great concept but the staff are ruining it. One in particular has had it out for me since I broke my first rule the very first time. They do not enforce their rules equally, people who donate a LOT of money to the site get away with bullying, doxing, and harassing.
If you're being bullied on the site you're told to ignore the person as there is no block feature for the forums, and you get a warning for not alerting staff sooner.
The owner of the site refuses to hold his mods, staff, global mods, etc. accountable for their wrong doings and they are allowed to get by with being unhelpful, rude, and choosy with who they punish for rule breaking.
The main mod to stay away from? Mother of Three... She's the oldest yet most disgusting, childish, rude, and the one that gives those legendary unhelpful 'two word sorry' replies. If you get in trouble she goes through your messages and bans you for things you barely knew were rules. If you're not on her good side, in the Staff Mod Clique, or completely bow to her... she'll ruin you.
Hogwarts Extreme is a fantastic site which allows you to explore many amazing aspects of the Harry Potter universe! It also incorporates a vast array of fan-fic, hobbies, and other franchises. There are professionals that give their time freely to help you learn and succeed. Professional authors, graphic artists, coders, musicians, and more. It's truly amazing the things I've learned since Joining hex!
I've been an active member of this site for nearly five years now. I can't say enough good things about it! It is such a great community! I've seem some negative things that have been said and I have to say I disagree. I guess it's about what you want out of your online experience. Do you want a supportive, safe community that allows you to meet wonderful people from all over the world, explore your interests, develop skills you can use in the real world, and is a ton of fun? Then this is the site for you! Do you want to troll sites, incite conflict, and worry more about inflating your online presence than becoming part of something bigger? Then you might want to choose some place which fosters those things.
Here's the thing: When you have an issue and finally get it addressed, they'll send you lots of galleons. Between that? No responses and completely ignored. Other than that, the site is amazing!
I have been a member of Hex since 2007. I love the site for all the wonderful people that I have met over the years. Furthermore, Hex has a great interactive economy filled with items to collect which keeps users entertained and with a daily goal for the user to work towards earning galleons so as to be able to afford to buy the items that you want. There is a stock market and dirigible plums that can be done daily.
Every month there are events and contests to get involved with so there is always something new to look forward to. The site is run by volunteers and they are a dedicated group who try their best, even though many people forget they are also human and no place or person is wholly perfect. I have read many reviews here from people who have had bad experiences with staff, but unfortunately there is no smoke without fire in most cases.
If you are looking for a Harry Potter experience where you can be totally immersed in the world of Harry Potter and take part in classes and earning house points towards the house cup then Hexrpg is the only place you need to be.
I'd like to start by addressing the fact that when I made my HEXRPG account, I didn't realize I had already made an account years ago that I never did anything with and promptly forgot. A lot of people here are rating badly because they got banned without a chance to explain... but I was messaged by a moderator and simply asked which account I would like to keep. No threat of banning at all. That's is as of 2017 so maybe they used to have a bad policy, but I personally haven't experienced the harsh treatment described by others with duplicate accounts.
Overall, the mods / admins seem quite dedicated to the site. They try to be as helpful as possible, and answered several of my dumb questions. I haven't been on the site for long, but I haven't seen any abuse of power yet... I just consider that these people write detailed lessons in many classes, grade all your homework (yeah a real person actually reads what you hand in), answer your questions, and moderate forums where they have to enforce whatever rules.
There are no real items. You can pay real money for items or upgrades but it's not necessary. Of course nothing is real... it's not real in the books or the movies either. It's a role play site, so of course your imagination and willingness to role play are limiting factors.
I take HEXRPG for what it is. I don't believe it's a scam like it's been accused of being. They don't force you to pay anything, and it's basically a huge interactive forum with lots of role play activities and discussions. You get what you put in to it.
I've been on the site since I was in high school. I left for a while to finish school, and start a family. After returning, I still find HEX a wonderful place to explore the world of Harry Potter. There are classes, and spells, and a TON of "items" you can purchase or win in the many site run contests. I've read the reviews of the site, both good and bad. I must say that the bad reviews are generally written by rule breakers and disgruntled users that want HEX to be run their way, and not with the vision of the site owner.
The site staff are there to enforce the rules that everyone agrees to follow when they sign up for an account.
Real world drama should be left at the door, and not brought onto the site. The real world is what we are there to "escape" from and enjoy the magic. It should only be all about the magic and all the fun belonging to a Harry Potter community.
So, come and join. Make friends from the diverse cultures around the world. Immerse yourself to the fullest extent of the site. They even have mentors to help you learn to navigate the site and answer any questions you may have.
I joined HEX 6 years ago. Loved the first year, but got busy and had to go MIA. I came back recently and dang this place is horrible. The staff are rude as ever. News flash don't volunteer to do the job just because it gives you power. IN the end you end up hating everyone and everything, being rude to folks. And who in their right mind lets a CHILD have a position of power. John is an idiot for allowing such a great place to be ruined by his staff. Favoritism all around and staff that will not for the life of them let users explain anything. Now I am not writing this because I did something wrong and have gotten in trouble, because in fact I never have had an issue personally. But I See it all the time. And to top it off how on earth can you have a Pride event if you allow homophobic stuff to be put on the forums? Staff don't actually care, john doesn't either. The money he gets in donations (A LOT) I guarantee he just pockets it and goes on his way. Also, the staff like to look through your OWLs if they have a problem with you so they can have a reason to ban you. At the end of the day, you could literally be good, do nothing wrong but SEE all the crap that happens and then not want to be around. Also these positive reviews are from staff, as they have mentioned they tried to boost the rating. I hope one day they get taken down because of copyright infringement. Literally SELLING the world of harry potter to underage folks. STRAIGHT TRASH.
Wow, HEX is pretty awesome. In the time I've been here, I have become a way better writer, made at least 40 friends, and done some pretty cool stuff on HEX. Now, don't get me wrong, I've had my ups and downs, I got frustrated at a mod and a game, a thread annoyed me to pieces, but my experience has been overall, great.
HEX might be unfair sometimes, but I have soooouch fun in my dorm and clubs. I mean, I barely have any money and buying HEXmas and Bday gifts is a pain, but I like it when I get rare things
The concept is nice but the staff ruin it. I was accused of having multiple accounts and they just kicked me out. I had no idea what was happening. I really enjoyed hexrpg but now I dislike it a lot.
Answer: From what I've seen in the negative reviews, most of these have broken the rules and were upset when they were punished accordingly. HEX does not allow multiple accounts, which is clearly stated in the rules. The idea that they automatically ban you with no warning or chance to explain yourself is completely false, as is the idea that other people aren't allow to have accounts in your household. I've been on the site for years and even recently became a moderator. All of these negative reviews talking about how terrible the staff is? Not allowed. Seriously, if any of us tried any of that stuff, we'd get in trouble faster than you could click report. Most of the negative reviews are simply from users who broke the rules and didn't like getting punished for it, along with the one or two reviewers who seemed to miss that HEX is PG-13. As someone whose been on the site for four years, let me assure you that they have given a completely off-base account of the site.
Answer: I have Aspergers and when I explained this to staff members who have attacked me over things I've said which they misinterpreted, and tried to explain what I really meant, I was basically told "tough luck" because what they say goes and their personal interpretation of what you say is the only meaning they will accept. It's happened to a few other Autistic Hexians as well from what I've heard. So, in all honesty? Avoid the bigger global mods and staff members/admins where you can because otherwise you might regret it if one of them reads you wrong and doesn't care to ask you for clarification. It's not worth the trouble. 95% of the regular users are very nice and understanding about the Autism spectrum though so don't shy away from talking about it if you need to.
Answer: If the negative reviews are all around the same time, and all have similar spelling/grammatical issues, they're from the same butt-hurt people who got banned for rule-breaking and are now salty.
Answer: I believe it is. I am a current member of the site and have found many wonderful friends and it has become a place for me to log into after a long day at school or work and not have to worry about the drama of everyday life. Granted, nothing is 100% perfect, as just like humans, the site still has some kinks that occur and you will find there to be some negative people who feed off of drama and misery. It is a matter of just being yourself and deciding which environment and experience you wish to have. The rules may seem silly or ridiculous, but some are in place due to COPPA or just keeping the users safe along with general online etiquette. So yes, it is worth it.
Answer: Yes, the site is free. There are options to pay in to get perks (items mostly), but they are in no way required.
Answer: Best way is the stock market because over time you receive dividends.
HEXRPG has a rating of 2.2 stars from 132 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with HEXRPG most frequently mention multiple accounts, staff members and internet connection. HEXRPG ranks 156th among Mmorpg sites.
