I've been a member of HEX for nearly a year and I have loved every minute of it. Almost all of the other users are super supportive and friendly, the staff is very helpful and hardworking, and there is a plethora of entertaining events and contests.
I've never been overly high on the totem pole of hexians, but I've been in positions where I was able to see a little bit of what goes into this site. The amount of time and effort that the staff members and mods put into making HEX a fun place is astounding. Everything they do is for the benefit of the users. They're actually obligated to follow the rules too, so nobody should complain about unfair regulations.
I would definitely recommend HEX to any Harry Potter fan! It's a wonderful site to discuss HP with other people, challenge yourself, and really just have a good time.
So Hex is mods and staffs are run by volunteer people and those people don't even answer your owls! They basically fling you out the window and won't give you helpful words.
Like you're bloody staffs but you won't answer people's owls properly.
Basically, I sent an owl saying I needed help with Graphic making and whatever, and the lady was online at the time. She replied by saying check the Arts and Graphics forum.
That did not explain anything, so I asked her again which forum?
She was like: (and I quote this) Just go to the Arts and Graphics place and go through all the forums"
I was pissed, honestly!
I'm not wasting my time going through all those bloody threads!
I've been on this site for well over a decade, so my experience is pretty much covered in seeing everything and anything on the site. There is so much do, you can get lost there for hours.
I've read a lot of the other reviews on here and they all appear to be from disgruntled users who broke the rules are were not happy about being told off.
From all of my experiences the site in itself is NOT anti LGBTQ+. To say so is just baffling. There may be specific users on the site who have opinions that are harmful to the community and site staff appear to be making efforts to remove these types of opinions from the site. But you can't blame site staff for everything and for what individual users post up. There's a true vendetta out against the staff as a whole. Users wishing to complain use the title 'staff' to make negative comments towards a group of users without having to specifically call anyone out.
I've met so many amazing people on this site. This site is a great place to geek out with fellow Harry Potter lovers. There are classes to take, items to collect, and tons of events and things to do. I absolutely adore spending my time here. If I have any questions there are always plenty of staff and moderators around to answer my questions. I really enjoy spending my time here.
The site is amazing, really good graphics and all and it's fun and interactive. Though I have a problem, the staff members and moderators are really stuck up and full of themselves.(most of them). My sister, she has an account and I have an account as well. One of the mods sent an owl saying she has more than one account and then my mom had to step in and tell them off. Like just because you share an internet connection doesnt mean you have multiple accounts. And plus both siblings should be able to play on Hex as well. The rules are pathetic, but some of the rules are good as well.
Other then that, the site is well made! And its addictive.
I recognize that there are problems, however it is still a fun website! I really love it. I'm glad that there's a places for Potter heads to experience Hogwarts. Love it, and would definitely recommend!
So I was apart of Hex for nearly 3 years, in that time I became a mod of two areas, collected the items I wanted. I loved it! I was obsessed! Until one day I wake up to a note saying my account had been sent to Azkaban and that my account had been reset. Logging back in I found that all my items/galleons that I worked hard for had been deleted. I did not get a moment to explain to them that I did not have another account. Turns out it was an account I made that I forgot about and NEVER used 7 years ago. I actually spent real money on this website. I am so pissed that this happened I may not ever go back. I also agree with most of what everyone has said in the reviews. A lot of staff are nice, but there are some who are horrible. They won't listen to your side of things, or even care. You all have lost a paying costumer. Good bye Hex. Note: I followed all the rules, I never logged into another account unless it was a mod area account.
I love Hex, I have a ton of friends there. Though, I have no idea why people think it's such a bad place. It isn't the site that has done wrong, it's the staff. People act like the mods are cruel people, but they're not. Keep in mind, the staff have hundreds, maybe even thousands of users to manage.
On Hex, you can do anything you really set your mind to. Heck, you don't even have to do Harry Potter roleplays. You could search for hidden forums, make a club, and so many other things. I know people keep saying you shouldn't use Hex, but maybe you should give it a try. It's better to have your own opinion rather than go by someone else's.
Sure staff aren't perfect but you know what else isn't? Meeting up on discord and facebook and planning on spamming negative reviews to create a false image of hex in a place where staff can't find you! Don't believe any of the 1-star reviews that end up spamming the same thing but paraphrased. Either they genuinely don't know what a 1 star review means or are just trying to ruin the rating to get revenge for being banned about breaking rules in the first place.
The staff are rude and very unhelpful, specifically Motherof3 and Nefarious Black. Within a week of joining I had issues that those two could have helped solve, and they didn't. The site's PG-13 rating also ruined the experience for me, adding to the illusion of cyber-censorship. Needless to say the site owner, known as John, would have agreed with SOPA. All in all, if you hate rude staff members and restrictions, avoid this site. But if you like being ignorant to things and being talked down to by specifically Nefarious Black, by all means enjoy this place.
I could not be more disappointed and yes all of the negative reviews about this site are correct. The site is awesome but the staff and moderators are completely horrible! I get that it's a RP site but they do not operate like Hogwarts staff. They believe themselves to be the end all be all of everything site related. The majority of the time it is their way or the highway and they ban you or bully you. The site owner John is perhaps the only exception as he was always friendly in his work and responses. Very helpful. However; the checks and balances are not in place. Such a shame to see this site become worthless after 20 years. The blame is placed squarely with the moderators and admins. Terrible and about 90% need to be removed. Not worth your time anymore.
Like many have already said, I too have been a victim of some of the mods on this site. They don't let you explain, threaten to expell you from the site at the mere suspicion of you having broken one of their millions of rules.
Don't even attempt to stick up for yourself, because the mods wont believe you and you'll break another one of their precious rules: don't talk back to mods. Apparently hex isn't a democracy.
I would stay away, they constantly ban you when you do one thing wrong. My sister joined the site as well & they sent us both to Azkaban & reset all my galleons. I had spent ages getting and aquired over 100 million. When I inquired about why I was banned for my sister joining I was told that it was my responsibility to keep any friends or family from joining a site? I told them I was 400 miles away at the time she had created the account & I still did not receive anything other then a "you can earn it back, many have before." Okay but why would I waste more time on a site where I already had collections & everything. I feel the staff are disrespectful & if you have more money then they want you to have they will find a way to ban your account.
Here you can experience how to be at hogwarts, like doing homework, and learn some spells etc, for one year plus i'm here, i really enjoy it. But i agree with some people here, the mods are quite nasty here, they are intolerable, i wish they would at least listen to others before send other users to Azkaban,. BUT then not ALL of them like that, since i'm in Slytherin, i've always encountered with Slytherin staff/mods, and they all are very nice. So i guess not all of them are bad, some really gv bad names to other staff though.
This website has a so-called LGBT friendly forum but in the past few months (and especially the past week since Pride Month started) it has been rife with people - some of them moderators (e.g. House Prefects) - making homophobic statements, calling themselves anti-equality, and saying that the fight for equal rights for LGBT people and POC isn't important. Not only has staff been staying silent on this entire issue, but when people try to report the homophobes and racists they actually defend their cruel statements as being harmless and well-intended. It's 2019, not the 1800s. That should tell you all you need to know about this place. Would not recommend; extremely unsafe and upsetting.
Honestly, I don't know how to rate this business or forum together, this review is difficult to type while many reviews express differently, is it forum or business. One star is to express how much many have difficulty, to understand; all focused to find and strike balance. Donators and business never should lump together but if one make mistake should be punished, details about this are not stated in black and white creating another reputation, how much ethics may rank third or fourth as seemingly, it can be not true. Hexrpg itself is forum-based than business-like. It is not difficult to relate to whom character in novel based, for relating, whom one see as villain as thought of wealthiness- as said reviews are difficult to write hence one star show much struggle to stay constructive not just me only.
Priorities can state clearer for one to relax shopping in Hexrpg.
I've been off and on this site for well over 13 years.
The RP aspect of the game is truly a fan operated and supported aspect in the game.
The community is mostly great, but you will always have the ***holes.
The site has strong political beliefs, the admins believe they are able to share theirs, but you are not allowed to disagree In the slightest.
Most of the admins I've had direct dealings with have been decent, but it's far more common to come across the power driven admins. I've seen multiple accounts get sent to Azkaban for petty, nonsense things.
The site has its aspects of "fun" but it's mostly community driven and admin micro managed.
Don't get to comfortable, you'll get banned for helping even in the slightest.
I joined HEX and maybe my account is going on two months now. I made a few friends but for the most part the sites been around long enough that most people have there groups now and it's hard to get accepted in to them. I made a few casual friends and one I ended up adding outside of HEX because we had other similar games in common. She's had a really bad experience with HEX admins and decided she wanted to quit and remove her account and move on so she gave me items, now this wasn't the first time her or others have given me free items and g's on the website. But they flagged it this time it seems and said that her and I were clearly the same person, and put my account on a temp two day ban, but not hers. And then tonight they've expelled and disabled my account and I've have no way to communicate to them at all about this since, I've been having my friend send what I say to them on my behalf and sent an email to one of there accounts with no reply. Now, I donated $90 to this weeksite to get virtual items. Everyone does it so whatever and now unless they refund me or I dispute it to my credit card company I'm out $90. Talk about staff abusing there roles and not even letting users defend themselves over an account on a website. This really is stupid. BEWARE! I can say the site is fun but I felt really lonely a lot still so was glad to have met a few nice people at least.
Played on the site for many years. It's rated strictly at pg-13 so all ages can play on it. Kids as young as 6 have been known to play on hex and enjoy it. There is a lot to do on the game. You can attend classes, shop in Diagon Ally and Hogsmead. Hex staff has also been known to add real life information to their classes so people don't get too bored. There is even Quidditch games you can join in or be a spectator. On top of that there are events the staff puts on various times of the year for the holidays to make thing's interesting. The only down side I can see is that they are pretty strict with certain rules. No second accounts, no cheating. They have a very childish thought that if you are using the same internet connection...You MUST be the same person! They do kick people off simply for being on the same server (vpn anyone?)...They do have ways to find out if someone cheated or if it was a website error. If you are caught you are giving a few warnings, then you are suspended for a while. They also don't delete accounts so once you make one, even if you leave for a few months you can still come back to it. Hex has been around for 20 years and still played by hundred of people.
I made an account three years ago, which I completely forgot about. When I made another and tried to explain, they completely banned me. When they ban you, you are banned for life. Personally, I think it's a stupid thing. If you want to start again? You can't. If you get deleted for something you could explain? The staff don't give you the chance. The staff don't give you the chance to explain, and aren't understanding at all. From what I've read, they seem pretty ban-happy. It could be very interesting, but it needs to change its rules before anyone should bother.
Answer: From what I've seen in the negative reviews, most of these have broken the rules and were upset when they were punished accordingly. HEX does not allow multiple accounts, which is clearly stated in the rules. The idea that they automatically ban you with no warning or chance to explain yourself is completely false, as is the idea that other people aren't allow to have accounts in your household. I've been on the site for years and even recently became a moderator. All of these negative reviews talking about how terrible the staff is? Not allowed. Seriously, if any of us tried any of that stuff, we'd get in trouble faster than you could click report. Most of the negative reviews are simply from users who broke the rules and didn't like getting punished for it, along with the one or two reviewers who seemed to miss that HEX is PG-13. As someone whose been on the site for four years, let me assure you that they have given a completely off-base account of the site.
Answer: I have Aspergers and when I explained this to staff members who have attacked me over things I've said which they misinterpreted, and tried to explain what I really meant, I was basically told "tough luck" because what they say goes and their personal interpretation of what you say is the only meaning they will accept. It's happened to a few other Autistic Hexians as well from what I've heard. So, in all honesty? Avoid the bigger global mods and staff members/admins where you can because otherwise you might regret it if one of them reads you wrong and doesn't care to ask you for clarification. It's not worth the trouble. 95% of the regular users are very nice and understanding about the Autism spectrum though so don't shy away from talking about it if you need to.
Answer: If the negative reviews are all around the same time, and all have similar spelling/grammatical issues, they're from the same butt-hurt people who got banned for rule-breaking and are now salty.
Answer: I believe it is. I am a current member of the site and have found many wonderful friends and it has become a place for me to log into after a long day at school or work and not have to worry about the drama of everyday life. Granted, nothing is 100% perfect, as just like humans, the site still has some kinks that occur and you will find there to be some negative people who feed off of drama and misery. It is a matter of just being yourself and deciding which environment and experience you wish to have. The rules may seem silly or ridiculous, but some are in place due to COPPA or just keeping the users safe along with general online etiquette. So yes, it is worth it.
Answer: Yes, the site is free. There are options to pay in to get perks (items mostly), but they are in no way required.
Answer: Best way is the stock market because over time you receive dividends.
