Gumtree is not safe. Many scammers make the deal, asking about your address for pick up and mobile number. Then you discover they are just scammers. Or they send you an email to click the button for payment. Just be aware. Also, Gumtree doesn't have any safety measures to protect customers.
Had my account deleted, it was long standing with good customer ratings, i advertised a guitar amp and suddenly i am banned, i cant even create a new account, obviously run by idiots or children. Ill use Ebay and facebook to sell from now on, the site should be closed.
Tried to sell my car, having used the site for 12 years now, they refunded my ad fee and banned my account. I've raised multiple support tickets and they refuse to tell me why. Horrid customer service.
My 'crime' was changing my email address, thus creating 2 accounts. Then "Michelle" decided my ads for a fridge and a pump were "not suitable for the site." What a load of ROT. (see fridge and pump photos) Best to advertise in your local paper. Avoid the scams and the idiots that run Gumtree.
Gumtree app cannot be now used on different devices without being continuously signed out. Now when you post you need to insert photos twice as the first insert simply vanishes. Are the Gumtree employees qualify to manage this app?
Gumtree is charging now ridicules fees for posting: pets & cars.
Even for 1 only private car, they want money now.
It's less and less popular mainly due to greedy fees introduced.
Annoying amount of Scammers.
If you make a mistake in category, while posting, you can't correct it!
You have to delete and start again! How bad!
Every so called "update" is making this app worst, unusable.
If you keep trying you can still manage to post "coffee table", or "pair of shoes"
They support animal cruelty. Biggest puppy factory in Queensland that was just convicted of animal cruelty to 85 German shepherds and advertised on gumtree. She has been reported countless times but gumtree do nothing discussing company with disgusting morals and atitude. Avoid gumtree at all cists
I tried to post two ads... They were both cancelled without any anyone there copying and pasting at least a vague response as to why - just disappeared. You're left with looking through a load of possibilities as to why.
Pro tip gumtree IT: You can use auto correct to replace a few memorized letters to give a common response to the email attached to the account so as to explain why the ad was cancelled... Ya, I get it... Customer service ain't your thing eh? Gets in the way of txting friends when actually doing your job gets in the way. Can't have that now can we...
Staff at gumtree are incompetent and unaware of their own policies.
I've had to reach out to them on multiple occasions to get them to reinstate my add after incorrectly removing it
Theyre never available to chat online and email responses take forever, no contact number either so makes it very difficult to deal with and even more frustrating if its a paid add and they're in the wrong
Looking for a specific item. Ad 1 the vendor did not reply (is it too much to ask for a short reply?). Ad 2 the vendor was not present when an appointment had been made (they claimed to be "out the back" even though we rang the bell, knocked loudly several times, as well as calling out. Ad 3 When we arrived at the appointed time and place there were two big vicious dogs in the garden which immediately attacked and were only prevented by gate and dilapidated fence (next time?). The owner had no control. When he claimed to have locked the dogs in the house and called us through, we entered the front gate, the dogs attacked again ( not locked away at all) when we ran to our car and escaped he rang on my mobile and was surprised we wouldn't return. Each journey took over 40 minutes each way. Easier to go to a shop and buy the item new. It is a pity you can't give negative stars as a rating on this site
G'Day We are trying to start a business that sells LED lights and high tech battery packs. We have for a few months now had an Ad. On gumtree ( GT) offering to give away one of our LED Lamps RRP $19.95. Our Ad. Is impossible to find in amongst the scammer Ads. And when you contact 'support' they have a canned response "Pay for an Ad.". So they want us to pay them to give away a LED Lamp that is free to operate, yes uses no electricity ( actually approx. 2c / 24 hrs), are they kidding! From what I can see GT is about channeling Ads. To eBay.
I recently looked fora removalist from Gumtree. He said he was a family business and been in the business for 15 years but he was the worst removalist I have ever experienced. Mike from Penrith/castle hill.
I wrote a review and tried to advertise his disgusting removal service on gumtree by putting an add about his service and they quickly removed it. Where is the justice I wrote back to them as this man was a rip off. Apparently there is no justice Gumtree just let bums rip off innocent people without any consequences.
Hate Gumtree
Kathy
Beware of scammers. It's the perfect website for them whether you're a buyer or a seller and gumtree says it doesn't tell people how to pay!. My advice only get or pay cash or use PayPal. Gumtree is a real boon for scammers
Aussie site all states. Choose your area by name or kms.
Buy new, secondhand, preloved & even get free items!
Almost anything avail. Watch options available.
Pickup or post depend upon seller.
Also great place to sell. Great for local stuff too.
Owned by eBay but shopping is generally much cheaper
& no selling fees & no auctions.
Highly recommend. I love it! First place to look for something.
DO NOT! Waste your time and money on gumtree. They are so welcoming to take your money for advertising but without warning will delete 2000 of my adds without warning wasting hundreds of hours listing them. ####Businesses #### be warned! Your best to take all your adds to marketplace as it is so much cheaper and we are getting way more sales and much better support. Gumtree
I have always used eBay to find great deals on things I need, but I have only just discovered Gumtree! I'm not sure how long it has been around for, but I downloaded the iPhone app a couple of weeks ago - and now I check it every day! The prices for furniture and house things are so cheap - cheaper than I would find on eBay. And the good thing about it is that it is only from your area! I highly recommend checking it out!
Posted a very urgent ad for my boat in Australia, got message saying that the ad was confirmed and would be active in a few hours. Received no further communication from Gumtree, found out for myself when it was way too late that the ad was never posted because I posted it from overseas, never mind that the item and the contact were in Australia. Apparently it is too difficult for them to even set up an automated message to inform me that there was a problem and allow me to make other arrangements.
I became a member and started selling straight away. With no selling restrictions or fees like eBay but your privacy is protected it is PayPal linked if you want that. I found this site much better for selling locally. I'm also finding small operator businesses like local at-home hairdressers and removalists really helpful.
I been buying and selling on gumtree for many years, now I have paid twice a product to be highlighted or be on top of search, they take my money and delete my add with out any explanation, no courtesy to contact me after a couple of attempts to get someone to contact me to explain why my account is restricted. So Ungry now, will definitely change site to sell and buy. BE CAREFUL PEOPLE DONT PAID FOR YOUR ADDS, the could end up taking your money and delete your add..
We own a small motor vehicle dealership and agreed to advertise our Used Car stock on Gumtree under the Premium 60 program. Gumtree incorrectly charged, and we paid, $2,778.60 in overages over a 5 month period due to Gumtree incorrectly including NEW cars in the number of vehicles they calculated were being advertised by Gumtree as USED. We have been chasing correct data from Gumtree since July 2018. Gumtree did, reluctantly, issue internal credits for all but 1 month (which they continue to refuse to provide any evidence of the charges) but have not provided any refunds to us. So it's off to QCAT now to recover our overpayments, penalty interest, and administrative charges. It will be interesting to see if QCAT finds Gumtree has engaged in gouging, misleading and deceptive conduct, and breach of contract. JUST A WARNING TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DEALING WITH THIS BUSINESS!
My second ad ever on Gumtree, and first one in a long time.
Gumtree.com.au deleted it for no valid reason.
The ad content was similar to other sellers, don't see any valid reason for it being deleted. The support team I chat to also agree - they don't see any reason for it.
2 days ago I was advised to provide proof of purchase of the item that was posted on the ad and also a new picture to prove I have the item with me. This was the 3rd follow I had with Gumtree support team. So I provided and I was advised the feedback from the review team should be expected in 24 hours, 48 hours the latest.
Yet again have not received any feedbacks today, so I tried to contact support team again, was told the feedback is still not available, can only escalate the issue again.
The ad was for a discontinued set of Lego, very simple and straight forward ad. But the amount of time on the follow ups is beyond acceptable.
Totally disappointed and frustrated of how Gumtree handled my case. Everyone's time is also precious and no one deserve this treatment. Will not trust Gumtree again.
Answer: It's legit. But they don't care if people scam other people on the site. They have no recall or review system to weed out scammers
