“GMX email”

I have used this email account for years and have never had any problems I like the ‘save' option while writing an email Prevents losing what you wrote before hitting send Puts it safely into the draft folder If you somehow accidentally delete it

GMX has a log-out policy for a very short time. User need to log in every 15 minutes, even when they are connected to the service. This feature makes this email very annoying after a while. Nobody wants to log in to an email numerous times a day. AVOID GMX, that's my advice.

Account blocked. I will keep bombarding their "contact us" feature, although I doubt any living person is actually reading them. When account is blocked by THEM, they should provide explanation as well as a method that we users can retrieve our email contacts, prior messages, and folder contents. Then we can go to another email provider.

I am truly thinking of changing this email provider. So many restrictions, so-called security that stops you to do your work, a lot of advertisement in your email page, asks your password and email address all the time, and even if you give it, it doesn't work. Additionally, I grouped my conversations for the same sender, and now I can't break the thread! The only two features I like are: the feature of sending a read confirmation request and the priority feature where you can mention the urgency of the email.

This email service is not at all secure and has major issues with customer service, security and account deletion without cause. Although most seem to be people using it for spamming. Their webmail is not very well designed and is slow. They do give you 10 alias accounts for free.

The lack of PGP or and encryption tools makes it a horrible choice for most. For a simple basic user then it might be alright, but their spam filters are terrible. I loved it being 3 letter domain name but protonmail uses pm.me addresses so it's even shorter. They sell your information and use trackers constantly is also an issue for me.

Overall they could make just a few enhancements and have a decent service but as is I can't really use it except for backup accounts.

Tip for consumers:
Don't use it for spamming

I liked GMX because it was a short name being just three letters.
While the service is mostly reliable I must list the following downfalls:
1) When you log in you have to press an additional button to go to your inbox, which is unnecessary.
2) If you email anyone who has no emailed you first, there is about a 90% chance your email will go to the spam folder.
3) GMX may block you from accessing your own account. I received the following message when I signed in: "Dear GMX member, our system has detected irregular activity related to your account. As a precautionary measure, we have blocked your account." After contacting customer service and 24 hours having passed I received no remedy, and based on the reviews of others who experienced the same I probably never will, but will edit this if I ever do.
I cannot recommend this service if for the above issue alone. I cannot even access important emails that are now stuck in my blocked account.

Sent two e-mails one by one - account blocked, "irregular" or "abnormal" activity, need password change.
After one month(just daily checking inbox via mail client and daily synchronisation contacts/calendar) - account blocked, "irregular" or "abnormal" activity, need contact with support for unblock.
Sorry, but i think germans are idiots...

I've used GMX for a few months, and I've gone back to an old g-mail address. I had a yahoo account for years but I had to give it up because they no longer had any spam filters. Yahoo says you have to train their spam filter like a dog, I'm sorry but my dog must have died! Then there is gmail they look into your account, and they will let anyone else look in. GMX, Yahoo, Gmail, Apple, Android and Windows seem to fight with each other all the time. My GMX wouldn't import the contact list on my IPhone, and it would lock up all the time. Also my GMX would drift off while I'm making an email draft and when I hit send the draft was just gone (Very Strange). Anyway I'm done - as my Asian friend would say - HAD NUFF THIS! PM

I am tired of frequenly having my account frequently being blocked by their totally insufficiently designed and operated security.
Their response:
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this block has caused you. My response: Your staff needs to address my question. Les than 20 or hundreds. Years ago the Russians stole my husbands account and used it for mass mailings, shutting down the account. So yes advise please. GMX has that responsiblity. I will be reporting this failure to the internet etc.

Please note that your account was blocked by our security department due to unusual activity and triggered by some reports of spam being send from your account. As we mentioned in our last email, we are not able to provide you with more details due to security reasons.

In addition, please follow the recommendations below to avoid that your emails get recognized as spam:
- Send the email directly and do not forward it Are you referring to Gmails forwarded by me from my g mail account to my gmx account. Or e mails sent by my gmx account to the same g mail account? Or something else.
- In your email, please include a longer hand-written paragraph as message
- Include a subject for the message
- In case you have set up a signature for all outgoing emails, please remove it from the footer of the message
- Also do not include links of pages that could be identified as suspicious to my response have no idea what could be suspicious
- Change the format to "text-only" by using the "More Actions" menu above the compose window

Thank you for your understanding! Me: I don't understand most of this poor programing.

With kind regards,
Robert / GMX International Support

For no apparent reason, I can no longer scroll down my emails and can only intermittently scroll down my folders. As with a prior issue, all I received in response to my request for assistance was an automatically generated reply with tips on correcting the problem. In neither case did the 'tips' match my problem. I sent a follow-up email, but have yet to receive a direct response. My perception is that there is nobody home.

GMX offers great features including unlimited storage and best of all, the ability to create white list and have some control over your spam filter. I set up my account and things seemed to be going well. I'm just an average person, sending personal emails. A few of my recipients occasionally bounced my messages back as suspected spam but generally things seemed great until suddenly, one morning my account was blocked for suspicious activity. Contacted GMX online support and they responded that my account is shut down due to abuse! $(*%(*&! I wasn't doing mass email or even forwarding stupid jokes to people, and they weren't sending any crap to me. Because I used IMAP, all of my saved messages, contact lists, etc are in lockdown and I have no way to acces any of it. GMX has no phone # and they are now unresponsive to my requests for help. If you won't give me any warning or let me know what the "abuse" is they are accusing of, then at least et me get my stuff back. Jerks.

I've been using GMX for a few years now for personal email, and haven't really had a problem with it. I recommended it to my elderly mom, and she asked me to set up an account for her (she likes the option to have aliases). I set up the account, set up a few aliases, and installed the GMX app on her phone. Two days later, she couldn't log in. I went over to her place and tried to log in, and it gave me the error message "No such account exists". I filled out the customer service form and submitted it, and was redirected to an error page. I then set up another account for her (under a different username, since although her old account 'no longer existed', the username was still in use), and two days later - boom, gone again. I tried a third time, and... same thing. I spent a week dealing with this, and it was a complete waste of time. I'm now migrating my own account away from GMX. I refuse to deal with a service where they can just randomly close my account for no reason. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Tip for consumers:
If you do decide to use GMX, make sure you keep backup copies of any important emails; one day, you might wake up and find you have no access to an account that 'no longer exists'.

They are using "PTR resource record (PTR-RR) test" for receiving e-mails. If your sender has e-mail account on server with badly configured PTR-RR you will never receive this e-mail on gmx account. If you send first e-mail with question to unknown person you will never receive answer and you will be thinking that this person is ignoring you. And the best thing: With any other e-mail provider there's no problem with badly configured PTR-RR, you will receive e-mail.
Effect: You can't rely on gmx account. And technical support can't see problem. They are proud that they have good security policy. I wish them keep it up :)

Ok so far but it does not refresh on it's own and you have to log back in often with your whole email address. Hard to get your messages to expand to read your whole correspondence history and has quite a few errors when you try to save your settings. One nice thing though, audible alerts when you get new mail, but why is that so rare anymore?. 12/13/15 no more audible alerts for quite a while now, just about to stop using it.

Too many steps to log on, e.g., who wants to be NAGGED about failing to log out every time when you log back on. I stopped using it after the first few weeks. The ONLY advantage, and the reason it was initially appealing, was the fact it did not require a cell phone for registration.
