I love freetax usa! I am self employeed and claim several write offs. Ive used this service the last 3 years in a row and its veen easy every single time. It walks me thru and asks every question you can think of and helps me get the biggest refund that i can get. If you do something that doesn't look correct they will alert you. I really love this service and the irs has accepted my return within hours each year. Its simple and free. I recommend it to all of my friends and my family.

I'm a young adult, filed my own taxes for the first time last year. I used FreeTaxUSA. I didn't have much of an idea what I was doing, but this service held my hand the whole way. It'll ask you ALL the questions you need to maximize your return and feel confident you're not missing anything. Anything you don't understand, it'll have a little "?" question mark to click on that gives you all the details. I will say, you will need to be proficient in reading comprehension and have the patience to take your time with it. Other people in these reviews seem to be victims of their own human error. I've once again used this site this year, and it went off without a hitch. I specifically took the time to write this review because I love it so much, it makes tax season practically stress free.

I tried turbotax last year and they wind up taking almost all my refund by charging more than my refund. It took 3 months to get my refund from irs through turbotax which I give 0 + stars, Bad Place. I tried Freetaxusa this year and it didn't cost me a dime and they helped me get a awesome refund back without any lies or hassles unlike turbotax who says that my stimulus check will be on my card ( Never showed up on the card). So yeah Freetaxusa is the only way to go. THANK YOU FREETAXUSA.

Can't beat the price (free for federal, only $15.00 per state). I fully expected the website to function poorly because of the low cost, but I shocked to find out it works fantastically and is easier to get through than all the competitors who are charging hundreds of dollars for the same service. Great website that makes filing fast and easy.

After spending about 6 hours entering data and trying to fix mistakes on TurboTax Premier (loyal TurboTax customer for over 10 years), with absolutely NO HELPFUL assistance from the telephone support I had to wake up at 7 a.m. to speak to, and paying $165 for a Federal and State return with errors that could not be fixed, I gave up. The good news is I went on FreeTaxUSA and did the whole thing easy peasy in about 2 hours. Free for Federal, $15 for State, free for Property Tax Refund (completes but does not file) and even a $7 dollar Deluxe add-on that provides in person support and Audit support if needed. So surprised to see this so poorly rated on this site.

I've been using this software for the past 2 years without an issue. Federal filing is free and state filing is $14.99 that's a great deal and pretty cheap. I paid with my debit card and I usually receive my refund through direct deposit within 2- 2 1/2 weeks. I'm reading these reviews from everyone else and I'm unsure why everyone is complaining about a fee that's so darn cheap! I've used other services like HR Block and Jackson Hewitt and they always take at least $200+ out of my refund as payment. Free Tax USA is a walk in the park. You guys need to relax. It's a $14.99 fee not a million dollars

I have been using FreeTaxUSA for the past 4 years and I have never had any issues. Overall, the process is easy to follow and straightforward even with more complicated needs. I always "double check" my return by using another online tax service to see if the numbers come out the same. For some reason this year, I lost my mind and ended up doing my taxes on TurboTax, H&R Block, TaxAct and Tax Slayer. I got the same amounts on all but H&R block which was $1,500 off from all the rest. I don't know why anyone would pay $70 for federal and state when you could submit the same thing for like $10.

And have recommended to friends and have used it to help others. NEVER a problem. SO eazzzzy! Even complicated returns are done perfectly - it is so easy that paying for the state is a bargain...

Sad some of you say this is a bad software. Free Tax USA, besides being a good software and easy to follow, is the cheapest. I was able to include deductions and 1099 forms in my return without being charged extra for it. Please, FreeTaxUSA, do not change.

I just used it for the second time and I find it so easy to use. In part because anytime youi've got a question you can just click and get an explanation. Taxes has been a super pain for me in the past and it took me less than a day this time. Super happy w/ this and that's why I'm taking time to encourage others to try it. Best. :)

I teach tax law in law school so i know the basic rules although I am not a return preparer. I have been using Turbo Tax for years and not enjoying how much time it takes me to finish a return. They ask too many questions for me and I'm not sure how to skip them although override is sometimes successful.

FreeTaxUSA took me half the time and was much clearer to me -- not to mention cheaper. I balked at using Turbo Tax this year because the edition I had been using year after year suddenly eliminated the full Schedule C. I'm an employee but I have enough consulting income to warrant a Schedule C -- but I don't need a full bells and whistles self employment option for almost twice the price.

And is was great that they could import all my information from my prior filings via Turbo Tax.

I signed in yesterday, completed my return today -- and have word that both federal and state have been accepted,

Everyone has different needs but for my needs this option was terrific. Not perfect -- they did insist that I go back and make entries for things i had left blank because I had nothing to report this year -- and it wasn't clear where the deduction for self employed long term health care went -- but in the end it all worked out.

I admittedly had a rather easy tax return, but they are as good as the more expensive services and don't hit you with a fee after you've entered all of your tax information.

Tired using a different "free" tax filing service earlier today. Got all the way through the "free" returns only to be charged at the very end. Did not process the returns. If there was going to be a charge that should have been explained upfront.
Then used FreeTaxUSA and it was actually free. The website was very easy to use, the instructions were clear and understandable. There were messages to help the process along. Very easy to use and will use this serice again in the future.

FreeTaxUsa for 2022 was almost seamless. After putting up with all the BS from turbo tax year after year this company was a big relief. Try it... I swear you'll agree.

First time user. I used FreeTaxUSA for my 2020 federal and state returns. As a former TaxAct user I can say from my experience this product is much better. Simple and thorough. They had all the bases covered. The process is a breeze and their prices are very good. They have a new customer for life in me.

I'm having trouble on making the payment free tax USA charges for my state returns it keeps saying decline card I have funds I called my bank and they said it has not even tried to be charged at all?

OMG. I've been reading through some of the one-star reviews and they all seem to be written by people who should not be doing their own taxes.

I have a pretty complicated return with a rental property, investments, my wife's unemployment during COVID, credits for energy-saving upgrades, Health Insurance purchased through the Exchange with Premium Assistance, etc. I have always used TurboTax Premium in the past and taxes took me many hours to do.

This year I stumbled across an ad for FreeTaxUSA and it said I could do my taxes and efile for free even if I had rental property and other complex issues. I decided to give it a try. First, it allowed me to import my TurboTax file from last year, which sped up the process. It took me less than a third of the time to do my taxes compared to TurboTax. Yes, you have to pay $12.95 to complete and efile your state return, but TurboTax charges more than double that just to efile your state return. I've always chosen to print out and mail the state return instead. So $12.99 is a bargain. And the version of TurboTax that I was forced to buy because we own a rental property was $70. FreeTaxUSA is free.

I will be using this service from now on.

Easy to file and affordable. I feel like the site is easy to file and navigate this year. I filed my 2021 tax with them this year. Fee is affordable.

I've been doing my taxes for 4 years now with Free Tax USA. I wanted to try out another software last year which was Turbo Tax. I completed both my returns on Free Tax USA and Turbo Tax and compared them, I found out that Turbo Tax gave me less of a return than Free Tax USA. If your unsure do what I did. It doesn't cost you anything till you file.

My taxes were straight forward, but my residency status wasn't. I spent many frustrating hours on TurboTax and H&R block trying to make everything work out but had no luck. My H&R block experience was actually terrible and TurboTax was too expensive. Neither could do what I needed. Enter FreeTaxUSA. Everything inputted and sorted out in just over an hour and the calculations were the same as the other two platforms. A friend recommended FreeTaxUSA to me, now I'm recommending it to everyone I know.

This is a great product if you have common sense and know how to read; if you feel like you need more of a walkthrough and hand holding, then go ahead and pay for all the rest, but you will be wasting your money. I've done TurboTax and HR block, and both returns take the same time for more money than this website.

The main complaints are about customer support and taxreturn. I honestly have not seen any difference of when I get my return from the government, and the wait has not been unreasonable. I don't really count on my return as a necessity so it's just a nice bonus to get at the beginning of the year.

Customer support is overrated; if you take a little time to read through the website, you will be able to answer your own questions just as anyone from TurboTax would do over the phone and you will feel happier you know how this stuff works.

It really is a great time saver, convenient, and accurate. The interface could do a little work (all done through jQuery), but it is what you get. Really makes you wonder about all those suckers who pay $40 for a return they can finish in 30 minutes themselves.

If your return is very very complicated, by all means get an accountant, otherwise, just go to FreeTaxUSA. They rock!

I've used FreeTaxUSA for many years and never had a problem. I now work for one of the major tax prep companies filing other people's taxes for money, but I still used FreeTaxUSA to complete my personal tax return. It works great for the vast majority of people. But if you have a complex return or an unusual situation, you might want to hire a real person to file your taxes for you.

One year I worked a temporary job in the summer and the company erroneously withheld taxes for the wrong state. Using FreeTaxUSA I wasn't able to figure out how to file a nonresident return to West Virginia to get back the money erroneously paid to them. That was an unusual situation, and the software couldn't handle it. But other than that, it's always worked just fine. I don't mind paying $12.95 for the state return because it's still a lot cheaper than any of the commercial tax prep stores.
