Fanstory provides a place for a writer to share their writing anonymously for critique. You share your writing and have it reviewed. Other writers, many of great ability, read your writing and offer advice. The site has a large number of poets and novelist. That includes a surprising number of published authors.
FanStory can teach and also be a tool to get motivated. I have met some fantastic writers and look forward to their feedback. I have received over 100 reviews on poetry I shared at Fanstory. I have over 30 fans. This has opened doors for me - doors that would be closed without Fanstory.
I think Fanstory is a terrific website. I highly recommend it. You can enter writing contests and you can post your writing for feedback. The feedback has helped me. Reviewers read my work and provide suggestions on how it can improve. I also write poetry and enjoy sharing my poetry with others. What's great is everything you post gets feedback. I don't know how they do it but it's a great website for writers.
The FanStory website is attractive and easy to navigate. The help info is user friendly. And it is fast. The writing you post is there - immediately. And more amazingly the feedback is almost as fast. I love that I get feedback for everything I post. Congrats to the writers that developed FanStory.com.
The quality of the feedback is outstanding. Members take the time to read the work and write thoughtful comments both plus and minus. Comments from other writers are worth their weight in gold. One hears from folks that are grappling with the same 'problems'. As a learning tool - unsurpassed.
The website has depth and discovering all the possibilities available is quite an adventure. It has a game like quality about it. :) It's fun.
I recommend Fanstory. I'm so glad I made the decision to join, for if I hadn't, I would have never experienced such friendship, encouragement and helpful criticism. There are some great authors on FanStory, and it has been pleasure to read their work. I have learned a lot from the feedback I received from them too!
I have been with this site since 2008 and to date, I have enjoyed it greatly. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys writing. The other writers are friendly and offer helpful feedback when I post my writing. The contests are fun and offer cash prizes to the winner. You get your own web page that you can use to give status updates to fans that follow you. Your writing is protected by copyright. Their staff are polite and helpful their service is very professional. I would gladly recommend FanStory to any of my friends. Please keep up the good work guys and gals.
Paid for a month to check out the site's features, and it was a sad experience. From what I gathered, the more you spend there, the more coverage your own writing pieces receive, thus the more reviews and rank, awards, etc come your way in return.
Plus strange activities go on that did not seem ethical or honest to me. For example, within minutes of a contest voting booth going live, you can see top"writers" pieces be chosen in seconds - note the reviewers supposedly read ALL the entries in that amount of time, which is literally not possible. Newbies who did not pay to promote their entries, of course, were not at the top in this type voting scheme.(For more on the points/ $$ and member $$, read other feedback//reviews all over the web on FanStory).
Often feedback is weird, too. Example: you need to write a minimum of 150 characters on poems of maybe 2 lines in order for it to"count" towards rank and earn you points, member $, etc. Not much to say, so you have to get creative and write more than the writer did, at times. See more in other reviews.
Not a serious site for writers at all, in my humble opinion. It's not fair that the more $$ you have to spend there, the "better" writer you are? Not.
I recommend this: if you seek $ and credits, write to publish, sending your work to publishers, both online and off.
A magazine, blog or other credit would be much more valuable, and wouldn't cost anything except your time writing, which you'd do anyway at FanStory.
You can join writers' groups for real critique, too, and not get the "fluff" here.
I recommend FanStory. I tried other sites prior to finding FanStory and they were not what I was looking for. FanStory appealed to me because it caters to the more serious writer. The feedback I have received at FanStory has primarily been detailed and thoughtful. I get feedback for chapters in my book as I write them. The people writing reviews are other writers that seem to be very interested in helping me. The reviews are helpful and because of these reviews I find that my book is improving and I'm improving as a writer as well. FanStory was the site I was looking for. I recommend it to any writer looking to improve.
Fanstory is a terrific writing site that has aided me greatly in my writing skills. The reviews from published writers has helped me improve as a writer. It is very nice to finish a chapter and immediately get feedback on it. Participating on Fanstory has lead to the publication of my first book. The friendly and competitive community of writers has become my online family and has fostered deep friendships.
If you enjoy writing you'll love Fanstory. The writing contests challenge you to try new things. The people that are part of Fanstory are really wonderful. My biggest hesitation was sharing my writing with strangers because I was so new to writing. Heck, I had never even heard of any of the poem types in the contest listing. But everyone was so helpful. The reviews were really supportive. I really look forward to sharing my writing each day and seeing what my friends are writing. Don't worry! You'll love it!
I just want to say how happy I am to have found this site. I've always wanted to write, but have always struggled with confidence and actually finishing what I started writing. I've been on here most days since I joined. I have finished my poems and stories and and received helpful feedback. This has boosted my confidence no end, and now that I have started writing, I am finding it really hard to stop! It's a great idea and it WORKS.
I read recently that Fanstory can be a teacher, a mentor and a motivator. I agree! It is a teacher because you get reviews for everything you write. These reviews often point out areas where you can improve your writing. There are published authors looking for writers to mentor. And it's very nice to get immediate feedback for something you write. The motivation part comes in play by being part of a community writers.
Fanstory provides an outlet for the self-doubting writer, an outlet that keeps you anonymous (if you want) so you can have the courage to post your writing. And don't worry about sharing your writing online. Your can copyright your writing at the time you post it.
This is a great place to write and to express yourself through writing. It is also a good place for support and to learn how to become a better writer. The reviewers are terrific! Without these reviews, we cannot learn from our mistakes and improve. Fan story has a lot to offer. The feedback is just the start. The contests are fun. The daily challenges keep you active.
Fanstory is fantastic. I highly recommend it. I found Fanstory.com on Facebook. I saw an advertisement and I clicked on it. I thought I'd try it and see how it worked. It was the best thing I ever did for my writing. After being on this website for just a few short months I have learned so much. I enjoy sharing my writing and learning from the feedback that more experienced writers offer. The reviews are kind and supportive (I was worried I would get crushed). Everyone is so supportive. It's an amazing community of writers.
It works! I recently had my book published. I owe this to the reviewers at Fanstory. I began posting my chapters a little over a year ago. The feedback I received from reviewers was invaluable in helping me improve my book. I learned by the thoughtful comments that the site members gave me. The experience of being part of this site was so helpful in helping me improve as a writer and grow. I'm so thankful.
Like so many of the writers and reviewers here, I have found this writing community to be a great source of encouragement. The reviewers have exhibited honest and caring interest in helping me to improve my writing skills.
This is a good place to share your writing, improve your skills, and grow. When I joined I found a dedicated group of writers in various stages offering friendship and encouragement to me - the newbie. During my time here, I have seen many inexperienced writers grow and improve with the help of the more experienced writers. The contests offer a challenge and encourage me to try different forms of writing. I never thought I would write a sonnet! The rankings encourage me to keep writing and strive to only post polished writing that will be well received by reviewers. If you are new to writing or an experienced vet I think you'll find a home here.
I have been on Fan Story for only six weeks and love it. It is a great way to express yourself and improves skills. As for the negative reviews, member can either be reviews either by purchasing member dollars or earn them by doing reviews. Like life it is full of choices. It is not a "magic pill" to a Pulitzer. It is what it claims to be. As for all member's being older, untrue. One thing I admire about it is that it is an artistic forum where people of all ages can participate. If you try it and do not like it - go away and do your own thing.
Fan Story is everything it says it is - nothing more - nothing less.
When I first joined Fanstory, I was a writer of poetry, but I had little confidence in the poems I was writing. The feedback I received from fanstory reviewers was invaluable in helping me improve and also providing confidence in my writing. Other authors took up their valuable time to comment on my work and offer suggestions. The feedback has helped me in ways I can not explain. My friends and family have commented on how my writing has improved. I have to give credit to the reviewers at Fanstory for offering me the crucial feedback. I have also learned new forms of writing through the writing contests that are constantly challenging me to try new types of poetry.
I am now a published author. I finished my first book of poetry and my second one is nearly complete. I will give the Fanstory reviewers full credit in the dedication page of each novel.
Fanstory is a website where you can get feedback for your stories and poetry. Other writers read your writing and give you feedback on what you can do to improve it. There are also (many) writing contests with cash prizes. It is a popular writing site and is also a writing community. I have been a member for about one year now. I enjoy it greatly.
This site gave me the help that I needed to become a better writer. The opinions of authors through their reviews are a great help. I enjoy the writing contests. There are so many contests with different challenges! The members become aides to help me improve my writing skills. Highly recommended.
Answer: That varies. Everyone has a different background. We have published authors writing reviews. And there are also those that are just getting started writing.
Answer: As far as I can gather as I was there ten (10) minutes ago where I was offered the chance to enter a free poetry contest if I updated my mebership - for a fee of course. Anybody who believes this is a place where a writer can improve himself is living in a dream world and deserves to be fleeced by these gangsters. As they say: There is one born every minute.
Answer: Yes, $10 a month with long-term money-savings options.

Answer: Each contest has its own criteria. Usually a minimum and/or maximum word count limit. With some contests you must pay "member cents". (Member cents are earned from writing reviews, or are bought outright). There averages probably about one new contest a day. With so many, winning one is not that big of a deal. The exception is the "site contests." (All the other contests are put forth by the members). Site contests cost nothing to enter, and often provide a cash prize of up to $100. So winning site contests is much more prestigious than the other ones. Plus, many of the member contests have very few entrants.
Answer: We think so! With upgraded membership you can enter all contests with cash prizes. That's $5,000 in prizes this year! Membership is only $9.95 per month (with discounts available for our one year or two year membership). You will also get feedback for everything you write.
